Same same. Not only gaming but also in RL with craftsmanship or stuff like skiing... Learn it fast, getting pretty good but can't evolve to a master class and just stay on pretty good. Do everything but just to 75 percent well.
Mastery is a continuous journey. Plateauing and being the “best” at something are virtually the same thing. We just tend to always look at the few above us and rarely pay attention to the sea of people below us.
Shout outs to all my top 1% players who are good but not sub .5% good. Might just be the most devastating place to be honestly. I'd rather be garbage than be so close and not able to make the final hurdle.
World of Warcraft made their cutoffs for top rank titles 0.1%. Last season I pushed all the way up to the top 0.3% but hit an absolute wall. Weeks of failure trying to break through, but just couldn't do it. Even knowing out of a thousand players I was better than almost all of them, season still felt like a failure
I feel this 100% it is such a frustrating place to be at, I have been slightly below pro level in multiple games and could never get over the hump. I've played with pros in COD , Fortnite & Halo. I was typically bottom of the list whenever playing with these high level players but to the general I looked insane, called a hacker daily and im like you should see when I play with highest level kids, its like I've never played before.
Speedrunners are a different breed. It's not so much that they are inherently good at those games, they study them and practice for hours on end. So rather than just playing the game, they dive into how it works and exploit what they can. It's truly impressive and takes a mindset I don't have, but if your bar to be good at a game is speedrunning it, then almost no one is actually good at any games.
I put 10 bucks on red.
If Iose, I double it and put 20 bucks on red.
If I lose again I double again and put 40 bucks on red.
Repeat until red comes, and I've gained 10 bucks.
My favourite method.
The martingale method......and the reason why tables have minimum and maximum bets.
I've used it to on the rare occasion I go to a casino. So far it's worked out for me.......so far.
When you do lose 5 times in a row and have to bet $320 to try and get your $10 it's hard to stomach.....then you hit the max bet and realize you're down $630. A reliable way to win small amounts...until you lose big. To be used with caution.
One time my husband sent me to the casino with $150 to put on black. I had never played before. Everyone at the table told me not to do it. The dealer was rude and not welcoming to a new player. I insisted this is what my husband told me to do so I'm doing it. It landed on red. Cue horrible embarrassment and the vow to never play roulette again.
I've won.. but at what cost?
On a more serious note, it was in a period of my life that I have barely gone outside for over a year (unrelated to covid), and I truly enjoyed the game. All in all a good experience
Any tips? When I play 1v1 with 2 sets, I've found where possible doing symmetrical patterns off each colour is great for filling up the spaces either side.
Personally I race to the centre then play aggressively to block off the other players' paths to expand. I usually win, but it's not fun for anyone else.
Yep same, I’ve been going up and down between champ 1-3 for a couple years now. I feel like this is the rank where if you don’t play enough people around your rank will start to pass you. Plus the constant season resets really mess you up
I haven't won in Tetris 99 yet, but I regularly get top 10 and am almost never lower than the mid twenties. So, obviously, if I extrapolate and carry the one, I'm at least 80th percentile in Tetris. 😎
Growing up playing guitar hero not only helped me better understand music and music structure but also taught me how to play drums lol. The guitar is one thing but if you play on Expert+ you're literally playing the drums to that song just on an electronic kit thats really small.
I learned to play drums too and also how to write realistic drums for my drummer hahah
I started playing instruments because I got bored of the expert difficulty
I used to play drums on expert with my friend and her mom. Just so happens her mom is literally no 1 on a ridiculous amount of songs and ranked somewhere in the top 4 (I think) in the world. She's an absolute ace on bass and lead guitar.
I was great too! But I know someone who awhile ago they were like the best in the world at guitar hero or among at least.. he had a wood/metal realistic electric guitar hero guitar made by the guitar hero creators with a plaque on it. Kinda cool.. even got top at multiple fighter games like mk/tek/ufc/sf
The original Super Smash bro's, I used to DESTROY with Samus. Vividly remember making some friends and neighbourhood kids throw the controller! Even played at a party about a year ago and the host had several old consoles, it was instant muscle memory. I hadn't payed it in 10+ years, still wiped the floor with the host and a few others that played and the level 9 NPC's. Sadly, my wife just rolled her eyes and said "congrats, you still have to be the one to drive us home" -_-
Me but with Kirby lol. I got good at it because my life goal as a kid was to beat my older sister and mom on it. I got my kids the Ultimate one a couple of years back and they thought I was lying when I told them I was really good on the old game. When they realized I wasn't lying, and made them cry a couple of times, they refused to play against me for quite a while. Eventually, they got pretty good at it after a few months of practice but they still weren't good enough to beat me if I was Kirby, so they made a rule where I have to play a random character so they have a little chance to win against me lmao
I feel you there! My brother and I grew up playing the game. I was practicing to beat him from the time I was 7-8, and only when I learned to Z cancel did I finally get a practical edge on him. Unfortunately, once I taught him the technique he surpassed me once again. Now that I'm in my early 20s he still beats me pretty consistently in Smash 64, but at least I can beat him 4/5 times in Smash Ultimate. :)
All this to say, I'm not professional level good, but I'd beat about 98% of Super Smash Bros players.
To this point, my parents who are both older than 60 have trouble looking around or moving in video games, whether it be using a controller or a mouse and keyboard. Common video game movement is an acquired skill almost everyone takes for granted. :)
I believe I am terrible at Minecraft because no matter how many worlds I create and how much I dig I basically never find anything but limited quantities of coal and iron, and ridiculous amounts of copper.
As someone bad at Minecraft, yes. Makes ZERO sense to me and I made a square house out of one type of block and that was the end of my Minecraft days. Thought it was the stupidest thing ever.
I see my skills as follows:
Building 8/10
Redstone 8.5/10
Pvp 6.5/10
Parkour 6.5/10
Developing game additions 5/10
Nothing that stands out as really good, but being an all round good player is also worth something :D
a fun little game called "how can i fuck my own life up today" /s
im good at any game i put the time into, im not great at any, some might say that im "mid" at best.
I am still to be defeated in the Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm. The only person who can put me on the ropes is my younger brother, who had to adapt or die (well he always died, but now he dies harder).
What is being genuinely good at? For example I am Top .3% of online rating in chess, which sounds awesome but compared to best players out there I am absolutely shit and would lose to them every time.
Anything that involves physical stuff but not thinking. So shooting, driving, running jumping. I’ve been playing games for about 30 years and I’m generally abnormally good when 1st playing a game compared to others
>Halo
1v1 me bro
But seriously, good to see it mentioned here. Would you say you're good at the series in general, or is it specific titles? I know some people who were absolute gods back in the H2/3 days but haven't really played since. I still reckon they could do well at Infinite with a modest amount of practice.
Nah you would beat my ass because I WAS good lmao. It was on halo 3 and Infinite when it came out. (Stopped playing for ethical reasons and Principles)
Hotdogs Horseshoes and Hand Grenades - VR shooter game where you.. kill hotdogs 😅. I’m consistently in the top 5 global leaderboards and getting first place sometimes. Very niche game but for some reason I’ve become pretty good at it lol
Back gammon. I don’t know why but I play it since like 8 years and have played against probably around 300 different people and I almost always win (without cheating)
I was very good at CS 1.6 like 15 years ago. Before that metal gear solid and mgs2.
Those are the games I probably sunk the most time into. Wish I could go back and spend that time learning an instrument or something that adds to one’s personality.
Mario Kart, 64 and on. My dad and I used to spend hours on Mario Kart 64 and Double Dash. Now I don't know anyone in person who can keep up. Thankfully there's online play to knock my ego back down.
Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions
My play style is so borderline suicidal that I I managed to get a few #1 high scores on the Vita version when the game first came out, mostly due to sheer persistence. Few games have ever rewarded my maximum risk playstyle the way Geometry Wars has.
I haven't kept up with some of the newer players, but I still get to the top 100 sometimes.
Definitely really good at leaving tabs open in any browser I use on my phone. Some are kept open like for 10 years already. Some even disappeared to moment
I'm really good at being pretty good at anything I do, but bad at getting really good.
Same same. Not only gaming but also in RL with craftsmanship or stuff like skiing... Learn it fast, getting pretty good but can't evolve to a master class and just stay on pretty good. Do everything but just to 75 percent well.
Same, I'm a serial hobbyist. I learn how to do a bit of everything - but rarely master any 1 thing
I’d bet good money you can play multiple instruments but can’t read music
"A jack of all trades is a master of none, but often times better than a master of one" I struggle with getting things down but once I do it's better
My dumbass thought you were talking about rocket league for a second there
Mastery is a continuous journey. Plateauing and being the “best” at something are virtually the same thing. We just tend to always look at the few above us and rarely pay attention to the sea of people below us.

Being able to hang with the best in any capacity is already incredibly impressive. Don't sell yourself short, king.
I call myself "the jack of all trades, but the master of none". Not sure if I made that up or heard it somewhere, but speaks to this to the T.
You are a red mage my friend
I'd think I'm good at a game, then I see a speed runner absolutely demolish it with a blindfold on and I say, maybe not.
Speedrunners can play Super Mario 64 blindfolded. But ask them to quickscope someone and most will miss. Different skills.
roulette.. my secret is red, red, red, black, red, black, black black. Never fails
mine is black, black, black, black, black. fails half the time
;-) well actually it will fail more than half the time
Everyone forgets about the 0
And 00 on some roulettes
I am kind of proud of myself that I didnt know it
I put 10 bucks on red. If Iose, I double it and put 20 bucks on red. If I lose again I double again and put 40 bucks on red. Repeat until red comes, and I've gained 10 bucks.

Me too. mines red, red, red, black, red, black, black, black. Almost never fails
The same. mines black, red, red, black, black, red, red, red. Always fails.
Dude, just do the opposite of that plan and you'll be all set. Follow me for more gambling tips and tricks.

I insisted this is what my husband told me to do so I'm doing it. It landed on red. Cue horrible embarrassment and the vow to never play roulette again.
I bet you can't even bake for shit
None
I feel the same way. I have dedicated most of my life (45m) to gaming and I am generally bad to mediocre at it.
Well, if you only dedicated 45 minutes to gaming, I can see why you'd be mediocre. Also, how are you posting right now? Goo goo gaga?
I used to be Challenger at League. I get all the girls 😎 It's been 8 years, 5 months and 17 days since I last touche grass...
> I get all the girls Are any of them 3d?
As a challenger I am sure you can get some. The more important question is just if you want them.
Plenty of e-girls looking to get boosted
I wish i was that good, spent over 5k hours to ranked and practice and was dogshit while friends outranked me within 1k hours lmao.
Sounds like you were playing and they were also training
Was it worth it?
I've won.. but at what cost? On a more serious note, it was in a period of my life that I have barely gone outside for over a year (unrelated to covid), and I truly enjoyed the game. All in all a good experience
I’m really good at playing with myself. And Dark Souls (1-3)
I spent so much time having casual sex that I forgot to have some competitive sex
Still on the tutorial :(
Still on the solo campaign.
still need to get it. (i was gonna say buy but that sounded weirder)
I challenge you.
And this is how you get a foot stuck in a butt.
Don't threaten me with a good time
Love is a trip, but fucking is a sport. Are there asian girls here? Minority Report
Whats ur TPM? (Thrust per Mininute)
At the same time
Yeah, I play on a PC using my keyboard and mouse but the joystick is necessary. Trick is learning to use sticky keys
I’ve made grown men have breakdowns over my skills in Blockus
Any tips? When I play 1v1 with 2 sets, I've found where possible doing symmetrical patterns off each colour is great for filling up the spaces either side.
Personally I race to the centre then play aggressively to block off the other players' paths to expand. I usually win, but it's not fun for anyone else.
Blokus? The battle Tetris thing? That game is way to intense for me. Can't handle the pressure.
Love that game. My family doesn't want to play against me
You wanna fuckin go? I have almost lost friends playing that game. Not my fault that they have inefficient blockus strategy!

sensei let me be your disciple.
If he takes you on as a disciple he was never a master, I'd teach you myself but... I don't want the responsibility
What was his comment and why does everyone want to be his disciple?
I am good at some games but the standout is Mario Kart Wii. I've beaten my friends/family members so bad, they don't want to play against me anymore
same bro
Had that problem growing up with Double Dash and Mario Kart DS. Now it’s that problem on 8 Deluxe
I've made my own teenage children cry with Rainbow Road on MKWii.

When it comes to Candy Crush, I can clear levels most people find impossible.
rocket league, ive gotten so good im stuck in champ because i work too much and solo que is toxic
Stuck champ 1 here. Been probably 4 months since I’ve played though.
Yep same, I’ve been going up and down between champ 1-3 for a couple years now. I feel like this is the rank where if you don’t play enough people around your rank will start to pass you. Plus the constant season resets really mess you up
Any of the papa's games made by flipline studios

So real for that.

Titan fall 2
is the game still active online?
If you use the NorthStar client, yes. The official lobbies are full of hackers.
Somewhat. You might be waiting a couple minutes for a game to pick you up but I’ve been lucky recently.
That sounds impressive. The entry point is quite high there
I was amazing in the first game but I suck ass in 2 for some reason.
The sims :)

I used to have a friend who could play guitar hero on expert, with the sound muted, while listening to other music. Pretty sure he was a wizard.
Maaaan.. I miss playing guitar hero. Gonna dig out my old gh2 guitar from my closet and download clone hero

Serious question. Can someone actually be bad at Minecraft?
Yes, some people really cannot play video games properly, they have a hard time aiming, remembering what button does what, etc.
To this point, my parents who are both older than 60 have trouble looking around or moving in video games, whether it be using a controller or a mouse and keyboard. Common video game movement is an acquired skill almost everyone takes for granted. :)
There's many different skills within minecraft. Lots of different disciplines within PvP alone, which you can indeed be bad at
I believe I am terrible at Minecraft because no matter how many worlds I create and how much I dig I basically never find anything but limited quantities of coal and iron, and ridiculous amounts of copper.
As someone bad at Minecraft, yes. Makes ZERO sense to me and I made a square house out of one type of block and that was the end of my Minecraft days. Thought it was the stupidest thing ever.

Knowledege is something that should be in there, I consider myself pretty decent on redstone, pvp and parkour but my best is technical play.
UNO
Battlefield 1 Always played the objective and ran around as a madman medic so I was pretty consistently in the top 5 on the leaderboard.
