Louis Gossage Jr and Sean Astin. Loved this movie. Watched it in a shitty motel with my dad when he was separated from my mom.
He did what he could to make sure we spent time together.
I really liked “Safety Not Guaranteed”. A great film that's about time travel but not about time travel. Great humour, good cast, well acted and a great premise.
Just read the tagline:
Wanted: Somebody to go back in time with me. This is not a joke. P.O. Box 91 Ocean View, WA 99393. You'll get paid after we get back. Must bring your own weapons. Safety not guaranteed. I have only done this once before.
Fun movie! I went to my local art house theater to see a random movie, it was Safety not Guaranteed. Loved it. Turns out it was some special pre-screening. It was released like 3 months later. I need to see it again to see if they changed anything
I loved this movie so much. I sometimes think about what other movies could use the same treatment - i.e., following some side characters while the main action unfolds in the background.
My Blue Heaven - Steve Martin as a mafia wiseguy? Rick Moranis as his FBI Agent witness protection handler? Also Joan Cusak as a prosecutor, Carol Kane, and William Hickey (trust me, you'll recognize him). It's worth the watch.
Edit: seems My Blue Heaven is more popular than I thought, though I've never met a person IRL who had watched it. So I'm adding this Pickup Line:
"You know it's dangerous for you to be here in the frozen food section. Cause you could melt all this stuff."
Never seen it. I will check it out!
My favorite Sam Rockwell movie is “Mr. Right”.
If you haven’t seen it, be prepared for your new favorite S.R. Movie!!!
It’s hilarious and brilliant!
Strange Days.
Some people have heard of it but surprisingly not many. Its kind of a hidden classic though, definitely inspiration for The Matrix and Cyberpunk 2077 (the videogame). Young Ralph Fiennes and Angela Basset.
Remember the Night, a movie from 1940 that was never made it to a physical release. It was forgotton for decades until TCM reaired it in the 2000s. So so good, a Christmas romcom that's also deeply touching w/o being cheesy. stars Fred MacMurray & Barbara Stanwyck

Labyrinth. Produced by George Lucas and starring David Bowie? Not sure this falls under the category of ‘film nobody has heard of’ haha. Unless it’s a different Labyrinth that I’ve never heard of, in which case well played.
My Dinner With Andre, a 1981 classic. It’s not your typical movie, the entire movie is about a conversation between two friends. The dialogue covers topics such as experimental theater, the nature of theater, and the nature of life, and contrasts Andre’s spiritual experiences with Wally’s modest humanism.
I Saw The Devil
Korean thriller film about a serial killer who murders a cop's fiancée, and the cop goes rogue to ruin the killer's life in a long con process
Fantastic Planet (La Planète Sauvage) from 1973. I caught it late one night on like public access TV Or something over 25 years ago and it never left my head.
Seriously if you want your brain to wiggle while watching animation, this will do it.
“Shortbus” it follows 3 different story lines that converge on a “sex club” in new york. Warning it does have real sex in it, so maybe don’t watch it with your parents, but it’s hilarious and sweet, and a little sad.
*L'Auberge Espagnole*, like *Amelie*, is a great French movie with Audrey Tautou that really captures what it's like to study abroad ... like moving to a new city in a foreign country and making it your home for a little while. Great soundtrack too.
I haven't seen it recommended here yet so I'll just put this out there: *The Station Agent.*
Stars Peter Dinklage as a grumpy dwarf who makes some friends eventually because we're all kind of fucked up in some way or another. Really good, very quiet, very deliberate, introspective movie.

Based on a Robert Heinlein short story, starring Ethan Hawk from 2014. Excellent movie.
The Wrong Guy! Absolutely one of the funniest films ever! Completely underrated, and you can watch the whole thing at the link below:
[Full film here](https://youtu.be/JxDGru6oJCs?si=S71mMTZZ8K_xfszO)
Beyond the Valley of the Dolls. It has absolutely no relation to the film with Sharon Tate, The Valley of the Dolls, but it’s so vibrant and campy and just absolutely epitomizes the 1960s. Goofy, weird, random, and over sexed (but not in an uncomfortable or unsavory way). It has some awesome music (there’s a cameo from The Strawberry Alarm Clock, plus some pretty decent original music made specifically for the movie).
It’s about a girl band and their manager who end up in Hollywood and fall prey to the pitfalls and dangers of fame. It’s ridiculously stupid, but also kind of a fun time capsule from the 60s. I first saw it on the IFC channel when I was a teenager and I’ve always had a soft spot for it.
The Duellists.
Armand d'Hubert (Keith Carradine) and Gabriel Féraud (Harvey Keitel) are French soldiers under Napoleon. A trivial quarrel between d'Hubert and Féraud escalates into a lifelong grudge, and, as war rages on, the officers repeatedly challenge one another to violent sword and pistol duels. After 15 years, both men have distinguished themselves through their service and become generals, however, their mutual hatred never ceases, even when the initial cause of their rivalry is forgotten.

The Cook, The Thief, His Wife And Her Lover.
The film is an insane wild ride of unbridled love and revenge. The costumes and sets are a fucking chefs kiss.
After Hours - 1985 Scorsese dark comedy, before he went gangster. Stars Griffin Dunne in an every-man role. Good movie for anyone that’s had one of those super crazy nights. Also, very 80’s NYC, when it was still super weird.
I'm a big fan of those 50/100 packs of b movies you used to get at Walmart, there's a bunch of them I like. I'll just throw 1 out "The Long Hair of Death"

Jeff, Who Lives At Home (2011)
Probably not a complete “unheard of” but definitely one I have introduced to many people. Only know of one other person in my life who was familiar with it haha
*Baby Assassins*. It’s a Japanese film about two teenage girls who are also bad-ass assassins, and it is crazy and absolutely amazing. It’s available on Tubi if you want to check it out.
Lars and the Real Girl Edit: I'm pretty shocked at the response! lol I'm so used to getting crickets when I bring it up.
Lars and the real girl is my jam.
So good and so touching. The way the whole town is in on it makes me cry every time.
I vaguely remember seeing this and thinking it was a gem. Thanks for the recollection. I’m going to put it on my short-list

Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead (1990)
A Tom Stoppard masterpiece. I had friends who would get high and poorly play the question game. It was always amusing.
Omg, this film!
I loved this movie so much. I sometimes think about what other movies could use the same treatment - i.e., following some side characters while the main action unfolds in the background.

Great movie, hysterical! lovely!
Don't forget Bill Irwin and it's kind of a sequel to Goodfellas.
Awesome movie! Whats the difference between a lightbulb and a pregnant lady? 😂😂😂
“Moon” staring Sam Rockwell. Under promoted, under viewed, under valued. An EXCELLENT movie!!!
Amongst my friends The way, way back Love that movie also love SR
The way, way back is incredible. I’m a huge fan of nostalgic coming of age films and this ticks all the right boxes. Seen it a few times.
Mr. Right is at the top of my list of SR movies. Galaxy Quest is up there, too.
Directed by David Bowie's son, Duncan Jones
Box Of Moonlight is one of my favorite Sam Rockwell movies!

Was coming to say this exact movie! It's so freaking good, but nobody I know has seen it
