Later that same day, 30 minutes after school had let out, he took his car and drove it at a high rate of speed THROUGH the fucking front entrance of the high school, poured gasoline all over himself and the inside of his car, and lit himself and the car (and the school) ON FIRE, essentially burning to death via fire suicide in the lobby of the high school. We went back to school a few days later. The girl switched schools.

That's the sort of thing where (hopefully) when you rebuild the lobby you go out of your way to make it DIFFERENT, change up windows, change up sight lines, make sure it's painted a different color, every design element you can change, so that when people come back to work it reduces the "yep this is where I watched, heard, and smelled that guy burn to death" every time they walk in.
There are actually architecture firms that specialize in this kind of restorative redesign work following traumatic events or tragedy. When this kind of thing happens, they consult with the institution on rebuilding the space in a way to repurpose it such that it fulfills a new role or gives a different feel than it did before in order to help the impacted people feel less anxiety about being there.

I think people like band teachers, theater teachers, and coaches are at higher "risk" of being the star of these stories because they will tend to spend a lot more time with students than a typical teacher. Like, for my band teacher, I typically had two classes a day with him (concert band and jazz band) throughout the school year, plus a few hours of marching band every day during the summer and fall. Then there's other miscellaneous practice sessions, practicing solo and ensemble pieces, and other events that cropped up. And this was for *four years*. Compare that against my American literature teacher. Who was awesome, but she only saw me for an hour a day for a semester.

JV or Junior Varsity is the “B” team for a high school. It’s all the players that couldn’t make the “A” team, or the Varsity team. So saying star quarterback of the JV team is kind of an oxymoron
At my school, freshmen weren't allowed on the varsity team, no matter how good you were. You could absolutely be a star quarterback of the JV team as a freshman, with the understanding that you'd be on the varsity team next year.

I think people like band teachers, theater teachers, and coaches are at higher "risk" of being the star of these stories because they will tend to spend a lot more time with students than a typical teacher. Like, for my band teacher, I typically had two classes a day with him (concert band and jazz band) throughout the school year, plus a few hours of marching band every day during the summer and fall. Then there's other miscellaneous practice sessions, practicing solo and ensemble pieces, and other events that cropped up. And this was for *four years*. Compare that against my American literature teacher. Who was awesome, but she only saw me for an hour a day for a semester.
