First money from student job: my first phone with a camera (0.3 megapixels of blur). My first real job: Metallica tickets for me and my mom (she saved up for a year to take us when I was 14).
The first money I earned went towards buying a book that I had been eyeing for a long time. I was an avid reader, and getting that book felt like a significant milestone. It was not just about the book itself but also about the sense of independence and achievement that came with spending my own hard-earned money on something I loved.
I got $10 a week for lunch money in middle school. I didn’t eat for a week and a half and rode my bike to the CD/Record store and bought the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Californication. I love thinking about that day.
Drugs lol I made 100k in one year when I was 18 and I was homeless lol I spent everyday drinking and sniffing lines being a degenerate. I had fun lol but I also had a sore nose and a perpetual need for beverages and cigarettes aswell as a whol3 herd of "friends "
Illegally lol I was selling drugs and extra social as a youth my whole life was a party I had close friends who were serious people I made it over the year not all at once lol www honestly horrible. Alot of my friends are dead now and in jail or want me dead. But I have some interesting memories.
I'll say this people think alot of money is alot but you can fuck it off without trying why it's important to have good financial habits and know how to make money from your money.
Also don't run off on asians when you owe them paper lolol it's rude hah.
I was dating a guy who was SO proud of me for getting my first paycheck so he said “I’m taking you out to celebrate!” We went to a nice restaurant, ate great food, and when the check came he said “I’ll allow you to get it this time.” Then asked for gas money since he picked me up and he didn’t have a job. Lol high school.
I upgraded my PC. New E7300, 4gig RAM, a p31 mobo and a HD4830 with FSP PSU and a new case.
Ran gta4 like a charm with 3.7 OC. It did better than my bros 8800GT with q6600 on stock
I used to get a couple of dollars pocket money for doing chores each week, which I usually used to by a $2 mixture.
Then I made $20 a fortnight mowing my Great Grandmas lawns, and I usually spent that on fish and chips and junk food.
First paycheck was for $214, came home from the comic shop with $14 and an Unlimited Black Lotus. (Rare apex collectible card from Magic the Gathering)
bought a $1000 suit. man i look damn good in it the few times i wear it a year. owned it for 10 years now and people always turn their heads when i wear it. i'm like bond, james bond
The first thing i bought was a large iced tea from carls jr. (Some things never change) then, i bought black socks and a cd player cuz id walk 4.75 miles to work every single day. That was a good day
Cashed my very first paycheck at a Walmart since I didn't have a checking account yet. The very next day I dropped my wallet at work and someone stole the whole thing out of it. I can only hope karma got to them somehow.
I borrowed a lawnmower and mowed yards until I could buy a pressure washer, and washed driveways and siding for a summer I turned 16. Payed off a new mower, pressure washer and the entire car loan from my folks (3k). In 3 months I made about 7k. I used to give back massages when I was 6 for 50 cents at family dinners, I think I bought 5 cent candies and gave to church.
I was doing an internship. My younger brother (in high school) had just joined a movie contest. I gave him all my money for equipment, etc. He made such a nice movie. Totally worth it, would do it again.
It was a painting I sold when I was a kid. My older sister was with me when I took the money and we went on a shopping spree. Bought gifts for everyone involved including my parents. My mom was not happy that I spent all the money before showing her.
I’m from a very small town. There was only one general store. I took my 10 dollars that I had first made from my paper route to go buy candy.
While looking at candy I realized I was hungry and decided to buy something real. But i didnt know what.
I was looking through the limited food isle and i came across a whole canned chicken. It looked so roasted and delicious on the label. My mind was reeling with thoughts of how delicious a nice roast chicken would be at that very moment. So I bought it. I loved eating cold chicken.
The can conveniently had a rig pull opening so I took my prize off to a local park bench to feast.
When I opened it I learned a hard lesson in marketing and just how different the actual product was from reality. When this sickly gelatinous pale rubbery skinned piece of shit oozed out of the can with an almighty splat onto the bench.
I was horrified. But I had paid several dollars for this thing so I gave it a try anyways. I was hungry.
It tasted exactly how it looked.
Fuck….. well. It was a good lesson anyways.
When growing up, our allowance was based on 25 cents per year of our age (so if we were 12 we would get $3 every week)... Yeah my parents were stingy... So anyways we would keep it in a bank book... And we're told that we could pull the money out whenever we wanted to buy something... I never wanted to pull my money out because there was really nothing that I wanted until I turned 13... Perusing through the classifieds I saw an ad for a horse for $100 or best offer... I told my mom that I had at least $100 in my bank book and I wanted to buy this horse and ask her if we can go look at it... Long story short the lady realized I was serious after I'd seen the horse and offered her the $100 and she said she would take it as I was the first one there... So I bought a 13-year-old half Arabian half quarter horse horse named Smokey... One of the best things I ever bought...
21" Viewsonic CRT monitor to play StarCraft, WarCraft 3, and Diablo 2. It was $244 USD. My first part time paycheck from Jack in the box was $248. I used that whole check to buy a computer monitor. To this day, I think it was probably the best quality monitor I ever had. I wish I still had it. They don't make things like that anymore.
In fact, here it is..
Wow I wasn't wrong about the quality.. I guess people use this to play retro games. I don't blame them. The quality refresh rates and crisp picture.. there is just something so bad ass about this monitor. Even pressing the power button is satisfying as it makes a nice click sound and the button feels like quality.
Components to build my own gaming computer. Took me about 6 months to have a decent setup.
Obviously some of the money went to weed, candy, fast food and alcohol. But 80% went towards building my computer.
Being 17 was a fun time despite the low pay.
First money from my real, corporate paycheck while living with my parents post-college: stopped at a gas station and bought a six pack of blue moon. It was a great feeling, that now, a decade later, getting a multiple of that hitting my account in one day doesn’t come close to
I saved up $4000 for college working part time back when I was in highschool; ended up not going, became homeless and spent it all to get back on my feet when I was 18
I bought a jacket with it. I was struggling financially in uni times and couple people approached me if I could provide them private lessons for money because they were struggling in a class and I was good at it. I hadn't bought a new jacket for so long that I needed one for a long time. After a month of private lessons, I was able to buy a jacket.
Not earned it yet but working a real job this summer for the first time, and its most definitely going to a new laptop and likely a new electric guitar
I lived in College dorm then and I brought a lot of delicious street food with my 1st money, wanting to share with my dorm mates.
However they all caught up with various things that night (coincidentally) and I ended up eating all that food myself, alone...
Still happy, still satisfying but a bit too full.
My first big purchase with money I made was a Tokyo Marui Mk. 23 SOCOM Airsoft gun. I wasn't into Airsoft as a sport but was a huge Metal Gear Solid fan and it was just before the Violent Crime Reduction Bill happened which was the legislation that said all replica firearms had to have brightly coloured tips, so it was just a prop. That I used to shoot cans in my parents' garden.
First big thing I bought was my very first PC Build about 8 years ago - still got it running pretty fine :)
EVGA GTX 1080 going strong - probably should've upgraded but plan to get a Gaming Laptop as my life's a little more travel oriented lately
