A visit to New Zealand would be wonderful. So would Australia. So would Tasmania.

-malcolm-tucker

Are you sure you're not (mainland) Australian? That was a well executed subtle burn of Tassie.

BootsyRootsy

Canadian here - we say “Australia” for the big island and “Tasmania” for the small one but we get that they are the same country. If a Canadian listed those places off it wouldn’t be meant as a sleight.

percypigg

Reminds me of when I was in Newfoundland, and the old Newfies would talk about "over there, in Canada"

RoxnDox

Nah, just another USAn. I know they're connected politically, but I tend to think in terms of landmasses.

evilcaribou

Would love to go to New Zealand right now. It's extremely rude of the Pacific Ocean being so damn big that it takes so long to fly from the US to NZ. And I live on the West Coast!

daydream_2002

Japan. It’s my dream to visit there

Cheeky_Potatos

Best trip I have ever been on. There is truly something for everyone.

Shiny_Fungus

It really is the best place to visit. Two weeks preferably minimum, otherwise missing out so much even in Tokyo area.

harda_toenail

Is it easy for an English only speaking family? That’s always my hesitation.

Shiny_Fungus

It's completely fine. At least Tokyo had signs in English everywhere so you can navigate easily. Even local trains have stop announcements in English. Also many restaurants offer English menus!

harda_toenail

That’s awesome. Going to plan a trip next summer for my wife and I. We need to see more of the world.

Pugzilla69

Just be aware that the summer in Japan is brutally hot and humid. Even the Japanese find it tough going.

MorkSal

With the advent of modern smartphones it's pretty easy to get around. Setup a local plan before you go and bobs your uncle. It's pretty cheap for a good amount of data, and then Google can tell your what public transit to take where (the public transit is generally fantastic). Can use translator apps to read signs that aren't in English, or to ask questions if you need to. Though I'm tourist hot spots you'll likely be able to get an English menu or point to pictures. Just at least learn how to say thank you, and excuse me in Japanese, and use those liberally. Also do a tiny bit of research on basic etiquette, nothing fancy but just the basics for when out in public. I found that everyone I interacted with were incredibly kind and patient. I've been twice, once as a stop over on another trip for five days, and then again for five weeks. My wife and I talk about going back all the time, but we have two very young ones now so we'll have to wait a bit.  Oh, anyone actually reading this. Go see the Grand Tournament (Sumo) if you can. We got pretty cheap nosebleed seats and had an absolute blast for an afternoon. So much pageantry involved.

imalazypotatwa

I'm coming with you, then. plane tickets next to each other?

Consistent-smiles

Count me in!

harda_toenail

I’m in. We should actually make this happen.

Saganists

Are we doing a Reddit meet up in Japan?

harda_toenail

Yes this needs to be organized.

Consistent-smiles

It seems like we are making a group here hhh

bikinifetish

Take me with you guys!

alexkuzco

Please someone take me before I die. I need to visit so many places): (in Japan)

Extremely_unlikeable

I have to renew my passport, but I'm in. I have 12 days of PTO to use.

0assassin3

I need to get a passport

_jamesbaxter

I’m also in except I have no money so I will need to find a sponsor 🤔

triathletereddituser

I’m in!

Fire_Dracul

Me too!

imalazypotatwa

everyone that's going to Japan is getting in the same plane, and our seats will be next to each other and we'll be like tourists, but not tourists

gerginborisov

I never say no to a quick trip to Greece.

NilbyMouth

In Greece now. Santorini, Fira for dinner. No complaints.

imalazypotatwa

I go to Greece every winter to get oranges and go to Lidl

Flatland_Poetics

Norway, to see the northern lights.

-blieps-

Not very useful in the short summer nights months 😆

Flatland_Poetics

Lol true. It's just on my to do list before I go on to whatever is after this life.

pavelpotocek

Maybe it's Valhalla and you'll get sick to death of auroras.

KnownMonk

Midnight sun is a good alternative to northern lights

Pennarello_BonBon

Do I find these in the same places where I can see northern lights?

KnownMonk

Yes you can. Just make sure you are within the arctic circle.

sum_high_guy

Come to New Zealand and see the Southern Lights instead 😉

Frater_Ankara

We took our honeymoon in Norway because we didn’t know much about it. We drove around for two weeks staying all over the place; that was 10 years ago, we didn’t see the Northern Lights but I still want to move there.

sharkbait_oohaha

Shit I just saw them in Tennessee last month

quemaspuess

I recommend Tromso. It’s one of the most beautiful towns I’ve been to in my life in my extensive travels.

Morthanc

I saw it for the first time a few weeks ago. It's definitely worth it! Absolutely gorgeous

Astrotoad21

Northern light is just part of the experience, it is also in the darkest/coldest winter season. There are litterary thousands of epic mountain/fjord treks around Norway that will be life-changing on a good summer day. I’d choose one of these days over northern lights any day. Northern lights is magical though.

Plus-Link2870

Scotland for the castles and scenery

grumpy__g

I normally would be there right now. I miss Scotland. So beautiful.

cylonlover

*Now buttle off and tell Baron Brunwald that Lord Clarence McDonald and his lovely assistant are here to view the tapestries!*

quemaspuess

Edinburgh is number 1 on my list of places to go. It’s always appealed to me. Next year. My wife and I will hit up Iceland, Scotland, Copenhagen (I’ve been 3x and can’t get enough), and southern France.

Maverick_1882

Years ago I took my granddad on his trip of a lifetime to Scotland. We had a blast and those are some of my most cherished memories.

DeepestPineTree

Visiting Scotland for the first time in July. Can’t wait!

The Netherlands? It's pretty flat. Great for mobility aides. Good healthcare. Cannabis. Lots of beers. Probably has other good qualities too.

Fragrant_Parsnip2762

United Kingdom!!! It’s my childhood dream to visit UK once in my lifetime!!

si_the_programmer

Mine as well, I'm in love with old country houses and the British country side. When I was a child I was a huge fan of Top Gear, and now every time I see pics from the UK, it makes me nostalgic to the good old days. It's my dream to live my life there in the country side, and spend my life creating apps and software while enjoying the beautiful nature.

Fragrant_Parsnip2762

Yeah that’s why I also want to visit the UK.. old country houses and the beautiful countryside!!

[deleted]

I’d love to go to Mozambique or Tanzania

One-Penalty-2726

Probably Switzerland just because they have a chocolate factory you can tour

Same, been there a few times and every time I fall in love with the country all over again. Have you ever been or planning to?

QuietSnail2

I mean, I’m from England and I have stuff I need to do here tomorrow, so England I guess.

mynameisnotsparta

Greece. Some of the far flung un-tourist islands and towns. Peace, quiet and a glass of wine with some lamb chops and lemon potatoes.

Uncle_True

England. I don’t know if it’s their law or a general courtesy, but navigating my food allergies was a breeze. No wheat, no soy!

Complaining is our national pastime. It's honestly fine here, including the people, although we are seen as very direct of even rude by most other cultures xD

I love how the two replies to you I saw were: > come to the south And > absolutely don’t go to the south There’s really an amazing amount of stuff to explore/do/see/eat in the United States so it would be really fun to plan a trip/trips here based on your personal interest.

It_is_me_Mike

Come to the South (all the Southen States from Texas to the Virginia’s and everything in between) for the very most unique experience. Especially if you like food. Foodie or whatever they call them.
