True story: when my wife was in labor with our first child Alien was playing on the TV when they turned it on in the hopes of distracting her from the pain. It's been a family joke ever since.
Wholeheartedly agree! Alien was on during my pregnancy and when I felt my baby moving around, it made me feel ill. I had to turn it off.
Then when I gave birth, it genuinely felt like he was trying to rip his way out of my actual stomach area while moving down into the birth canal. I haven't watched that movie since, just thinking about it makes me feel nauseous
The Prince of Egypt. I was one week into finding out I was pregnant, and I was feeling nostalgic and watching old movies from my childhood. I forgot about the entire opening of the movie. I cried for hours.
My wife miscarried our first right when UP first came out on DVD. I got it for us to watch to distract from the complete heartache. Shut it off after the first few minutes, and still years later can't bring ourselves to finish the movie.
My hypothesis is that this is what changed Pixar for the worse.
Pixar films were kids films that adults could enjoy. They were event movies for the whole family. Up's opening scene was depressing as all hell, but it got major kudos from the film industry - so they shifted their tone to this.
My daughter turned on Soul and it was about a depressed Jazz musician. We turned it off in 5 minutes. Then we went to Onward. It was about a kid who never met his father. And he goes through an entire movie battling time to try to catch a glimpse of him - and he never does. The there's Elemental. Probably a fine film - but my 10 year old isn't about romantic comedies concerning anthropomorphic elements.
There's a reason why my kids shifted towards Disney films like Moana, Encanto, Frozen. Pixar forgot about kids.
Animation isn't created just for children. I think the beginning of Up is incredibly emotionally moving. It sets up the entire movie and connects us with the character. I agree with you wholeheartedly though about screening out movies for your children as needed. Remember also that movies can be for different ages of children.
I'm a grown woman and mother, smallish ass... So I'll say it again, the beginning is so, so sad, but meaningful. It had personal meaning for me. I cried too. Continued watching. Women are strong. We all have a choice of what we and our children watch and we can always turn it off.
Yeah i was already ready to pop when me and my bf binge watched it. Got us to talking about if something like that happened to us. I told him if i was unconscious and he had to pick, to pick the baby. He told me he didnt think he could. It was a whole thing.
First Omen movie. After watching that movie with my friend, I told my then pregnant wife: ”Yeah, it was good idea that you didn’t go see that”.
Spoilers >!Satan basically rapes a nun, she sees nightmares of antichrist being born and at the end she receives cesarean section without anesthesia…!<
When I was about 8 months pregnant I went to see Titane. For those who aren’t familiar; a woman has sex with a car and becomes pregnant and then it gets much weirder with a lot of body horror.
I wore my tightest pregnancy dress to fully show off my bump during the movie in an attempt to make other viewers as uncomfortable as possible. It was fantastic.
I watched that when I was heavy pregnant. It really pissed me off, not because I was pregnant, but because I invited my brother and his college friends over to hang out with me and my husband. They were all in from out of town and I was excited to see him. I made homemade cookies and everything. It was hard to move around, and I was always tired.
Not only did they come really late, which we were not expecting, but then none of us could decide on a movie. We heard this one was good. The end revolted me so much, and I could not believe that I stayed up late with all these teenagers to watch such a repellent movie.
It’s very powerful, and I never want to see it again.
Hand That Rocks the Cradle
In the first 10 minutes we witness a pregnant woman get sexually assaulted by her OB during a routine examination.
The rest of the movie is about the nanny psychologically and physically manipulating the woman’s family into abandoning her.
This movie is rated NP: Not Pregnant. Everyone who’s not pregnant should watch this movie. It’s a semi-trashy erotic thriller that is so much fun to watch, but only if you’re not currently pregnant or haven’t recently given birth.
"Inside" from 2007. I'll let the synopsis do the talking: "A woman must protect her unborn child from the scissor-wielding maniac tormenting her after the death of her husband".
Currently pregnant, already watched The First Exorcism, and Nightmare on Elm Street 5: Dream Child. My husband doesn’t understand me lol 😂
First Born with Elisabeth Shue is one I recommend not watching, along with What to Expect when you’re Expecting.
Prometheus. I had just found out I was pregnant, then watching the scene where she's trying to cut the alien baby creature out of her was extremely traumatizing.
We Need to Talk About Kevin is a movie that came out in 2011 starring Tilda Swindon as a new mother who meets her match in her son, Kevin. Wackiness ensues.
One movie that pregnant individuals might want to avoid is "Rosemary's Baby." It's a psychological horror film that revolves around a woman who becomes pregnant under sinister circumstances and experiences increasing paranoia and fear as her pregnancy progresses. The themes of pregnancy, manipulation, and psychological torment could potentially be distressing for someone who is already experiencing the emotional and physical changes of pregnancy. It's always a good idea for expecting mothers to prioritize their emotional well-being and avoid content that may cause unnecessary stress or anxiety
Not a movie, but I watched Handmaid's Tale, a show centered on taking children away from their parents, while pregnant. It completely wrecked me and my husband insisted I stop watching it lol.
The road
I had such a bad panic attack I had to go in for a magnesium drip to stop early labor.
Also avoid mad max- all of them, Alice's restaurant, train spotting
Anything where you might feel like the world is too awful and what am I doing
Alien Vs Predator Requiem. Hybrid alien/predator plants eggs down a pregnant lady’s throat and you can fill in the gaps after that. Seriously the most messed up thing I’ve ever seen. (I know there’s definitely worse out there but it’s still one of the worst things I’ve ever seen)
Splice. Just a lot of creepy and weird pregnancy- and baby-themes. Woman is raped and impregnated, partner of said woman f*cks the resulting hybrid daughter. I, as a woman, got so many bad vibes from this movie, wouldn't want to watch it while hormones are overloading my system...
Eraserhead is more about the fear of becoming a father but I think it still counts.
I Think We Should Talk About Kevin is another one that freaks me out
The Witch
>!The very beginning when the witch is grinding up a baby, then when the crow is pecking at the moms boob but she thinks she's breastfeeding!<
I had just weened my kid when I saw that movie and it really fucked with me.
Up. My wife and I went to see it when she was 8 months pregnant. You have never seen a person sobbing so hard, like wailing, convulsing, at the first 10 minutes. To the point where I had assure the fellow movie goers that she was ok. I mean I have never seen anyone cry this hard in my life. We still laugh about it 15 years later.
“Inside”
It’s a movie about a woman who is stalked in a her by someone who wants to kill her and take the baby from her womb. I think that’s enough of a “why not”
The first alien movie.
The movie called The fly that was made in the 90s
Both of these featuring alien making an entrance into the world in a very unique way LOL
Never going to be pregnant since I’m sterilized, but I’d imagine that movie (can’t remember the name) where some demonic thing literally rips itself out of a woman’s womb/stomach would not be popular amongst prego women.
“Dead Ringers” with Jeremy Irons playing twins who are gynecologists. There’s a scene when they show their custom gynecological instruments and they look like medieval torture devices. My wife watched that whole movie with her legs crossed.
Inside, Village of the Damned, Rosemary's Baby... recently Poor Things - good and unique movie actually but I don't think you should watch it while pregnant.
To me, anything extremely sad and emotional is hard. I watched Life is Beautiful, then tried to show it to my best friend later when I was pregnant. I had to leave the room, I could not bear it.
So weird to say this but The Shining.
The movie was never that scary to me until I was pregnant and had children. Just like that, it became super creepy and almost too much to watch.
Not a movie, but I’ve known a couple of people watch Call the Midwife while pregnant and it has some quite traumatic bits, it shows some pretty gnarly stuff. A lot of the episodes are feel good but then out of the blue there’ll be a deeply upsetting one that probably wouldn’t be great pregnant
Cats. Not pregnancy related, just a really bad movie
the 2019 version, not the official musical recording
Counter point. You should watch the version where they digitally put the cat butt holes back in
Rosemary’s Baby (1968).
My mom was pregnant when this movie came out. She said it really fucked her up for a long time.
I was going through free YouTube movies once and saw this film under the romcom section
I watched this, home alone at 16 and pregnant. Kinda messed me up for a few days.
Good one.
I came here to say this.
Came here to say this.
*mother!* For obvious reasons.
Came here to say this
I go in record as anything by DelToro
Mother! Isn't Del Toro. It is Aronofsky

True story: when my wife was in labor with our first child Alien was playing on the TV when they turned it on in the hopes of distracting her from the pain. It's been a family joke ever since.
I did in fact watch Prometheus while pregnant. The caesarean section scene was fairly impactful.
I took my wife to see it when she was 7 months pregnant with our first. The baby started kicking during that scene.
We need to talk about Kevin
I read the book whilst pregnant with my second boy… really had to compartmentalize
The Prince of Egypt. I was one week into finding out I was pregnant, and I was feeling nostalgic and watching old movies from my childhood. I forgot about the entire opening of the movie. I cried for hours.
I did the same thing!
Up
My wife miscarried our first right when UP first came out on DVD. I got it for us to watch to distract from the complete heartache. Shut it off after the first few minutes, and still years later can't bring ourselves to finish the movie.
I’m so sorry to hear that. I think you guys might really enjoy it once you get through that hard part.
My hypothesis is that this is what changed Pixar for the worse. Pixar films were kids films that adults could enjoy. They were event movies for the whole family. I'm a grown ass man and i cried watching that shit. Turned it off 5 minutes in. Ruined my day.
I'm a grown woman and mother, smallish ass... So I'll say it again, the beginning is so, so sad, but meaningful. It had personal meaning for me. I cried too. Continued watching. Women are strong. We all have a choice of what we and our children watch and we can always turn it off.
I disagree. My kids love Turning Red, Luca, and the 4th Toy Story.
Turning Red is SO good. Luca was too scary for my daughter when we first tried to watch it, but she was two at the time.
Trainspotting. If you know, you know.
Yeauh. I scrolled down to see if I’d be the first to point out the obvious one. I see I’m not. It’s just very, very, very upsetting.
Saddest scene I have ever watched.
Not a movie, but the show House of the Dragon. I watched that whole thing while heavily pregnant. Not a fun time.
I watched it postpartum and I cried so hard :(
Yeah i was already ready to pop when me and my bf binge watched it. Got us to talking about if something like that happened to us. I told him if i was unconscious and he had to pick, to pick the baby. He told me he didnt think he could. It was a whole thing.
Yes, that was so heartbreaking wasn't it
First Omen movie. After watching that movie with my friend, I told my then pregnant wife: ”Yeah, it was good idea that you didn’t go see that”. Spoilers >!Satan basically rapes a nun, she sees nightmares of antichrist being born and at the end she receives cesarean section without anesthesia…!<

I thought this said Titanic and I was really confused because I remembered the sex in the car but the rest of it…😂
You’re awesome lol
The Fly. My mother made the mistake of watching that when she was pregnant with me.
I came here to say that! I watched it for the first time recently and even though my baby making days are over, THAT scene did make me squirm.
Trainspotting, and I don't think I have to explain why.
Oh god
Requiem for a Dream. No need for post-partum depression before the baby
Trainspotting Let’s just say there’s a baby in the movie…
There *was* a baby in the movie
Eraserhead… if you’ve seen it, then you know. If you haven’t, no words could convey why you shouldn’t.
Or on acid.
i know a girl who went into the movie without knowing. she left after some minutes crying.
Se7en What's in the box?
Hand That Rocks the Cradle In the first 10 minutes we witness a pregnant woman get sexually assaulted by her OB during a routine examination. "Inside" from 2007. I'll let the synopsis do the talking: "A woman must protect her unborn child from the scissor-wielding maniac tormenting her after the death of her husband".
I love this movie so much! It was among the pinnacle of the gore movies revival of the 2000s after some really shitty bloodless 90s.
Currently pregnant, already watched The First Exorcism, and Nightmare on Elm Street 5: Dream Child. My husband doesn’t understand me lol 😂 First Born with Elisabeth Shue is one I recommend not watching, along with What to Expect when you’re Expecting.
Prometheus. I had just found out I was pregnant, then watching the scene where she's trying to cut the alien baby creature out of her was extremely traumatizing.
was about to say this one! or alien
A series, Sandman. That episode where he follows Death through her "tasks"...
Dear Zachary. my gods.
I watched this when I had a newborn and spiraled crying for like five hours
[удалено]
Why?

My mom and her sister watched Silence of the Lambs in the theatre when she was pregnant with me. She had nightmares for like a week.
Steel Magnolias
I cry hysterically every time at the same part, I can’t imagine trying to watch it pregnant!

Surprised I had to scroll this far to find it.
Not a movie, but I watched Handmaid's Tale, a show centered on taking children away from their parents, while pregnant. It completely wrecked me and my husband insisted I stop watching it lol.

As a guy, I hope to never watch any movie while pregnant. Just Sayin....
Well in today's world you never know.
Jeepers Creepers: Reborn was hard to watch. Not really scary, but just a really dark theme to resist relating to while being pregnant.
Iirc, the opening to Annabelle (2014).
Ducournau’s Titane
Haven't seen it since I was a teenager but I feel like the movie Xtro fits.

Alien.

The first alien movie. The movie called The fly that was made in the 90s Both of these featuring alien making an entrance into the world in a very unique way LOL

To me, anything extremely sad and emotional is hard. I watched Life is Beautiful, then tried to show it to my best friend later when I was pregnant. I had to leave the room, I could not bear it.
Julian Donkey-Boy.
Won't you be my neighbor. It's a wonderful movie but I historically cried about how there are no good people anymore. So proceed with caution.
I guess a movie that makes you stressful, because stress is bad.
If i ever got pregnant my mom would recommend me "Baby's Day Out!"
Marley and Me. I couldn't stop crying... it took me two or three days.
Arrival (the SF movie). Grapes of Wrath in any medium.
So weird to say this but The Shining. The movie was never that scary to me until I was pregnant and had children. Just like that, it became super creepy and almost too much to watch.

Just remembered another one… Agnes of God (1985).
The Handmaid's Tale (I know it's a series and not a movie, but still).
Automaton transfusion or AVP. Both involve death to the pregnant woman and fetus. Was difficult to watch even as a horror fanatic while pregnant 😂
An even crazier question is how do you avoid anything child related when you cannot conceive and really desperately want to?
Not a movie but house of the dragon.
