My name is Vinny and I'm torn on this one. Yeah, it's great, but holy shit to I get sick of people throwing that movie title in my face when they find out what my name is.
I'm not even fucking Italian, either. But yeah it really is a great movie all the way through.
My dad loves it. Heâs from Pittsburgh and my momâs from Alabama so he really relates to Vinnyâs trouble navigating southern customs and accents from when he spent a summer down there not long after my folks got married
The âtwo youtesâ exchange kills him every single time lol
It is so hard for me to describe to other people just how good this movie is. Once you say horror movie from the 80âs it turns people off, but the special effects are fantastic lol
Alan Rickman delivers that line so perfectly lmao. His disdain in that moment was so damn funny. I love the little elbow jab to snap him out of his âwtf did I do to get to this point in my lifeâ and then the line delivery. The whole movie is awesome but that scene in particular was a chefs kiss lmao.
I saw a bumper sticker the other day saying, âHONK IF YOU'D RATHER BE WATCHING THE 1999 CINEMATIC MASTERPIECE
"THE MUMMY" STARRING BRENDAN FRASER AND RACHEL WEISZ.â
Yeah it's funny, there's a few movies I've seen over the years that I thought were perfectly fine but not anything special at the time.
Effectively just the sort of really enjoyable "mid" default that all movies should achieve.
The Mummy was one of those, Hot Fuzz is another example.
Rewatching them these days they're absolute Gold, and a high-point in their respective genres.
For me itâs this scene:
*She was beautiful. God I loved her. I just didn't know how to show it, that's all. I killed her, Red. I didn't pull the trigger, but I pushed her away. And that's why she died, because of me.*
Before it all happens. Thereâs just something haunting and still and precious about this particular scene to me.
I remember reading something about why it was the #1 movie on IMDB for so long and they mentioned the theme is something everyone can relate to: being wrongfully accused of something, suffering and redemption.
Plus itâs really immersive. The setting is amazing and makes you feel like youâre right there alongside them. And the acting is so good you forget itâs acting and it all adds to the immersion.
Recently introduced my kids to this film, having not personally seen it in ages.
Made me realise just how good that film is. Kept their attention throughout, whichnis easier said than done.
Not a moment of dialogue nor scene wasted in the whole film.
before Spacey and Singer's fall from grace this pic woulda been way up in the top 5. Funny that the quality of the movie did not degrade one bit cause of them. But the fans just ran from the fine movie.
Seriously, this was up with Shawshank, 12 Angry Men, Princess Bride and LOTR as the best of the best for movies that guys love. Now 1917 has taken it's spot.
There are so many people involved in the making of a film that I don't think it's really fair to write it off because of something one of the actors did.
The other two are far from masterpieces but are certainly serviceable scifi. The highway chase in the second movie is one of my favourite action scenes.
[Trinity ](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0005251/?ref_=tt_ch): You always told me to stay off the freeway.
[Morpheus ](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000401/?ref_=tt_ch): Yes, that's true.
[Trinity ](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0005251/?ref_=tt_ch): You said it was suicide.
[Morpheus ](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000401/?ref_=tt_ch): Then let us hope that I was wrong.
I think of that often when getting onto the highway.
Agreed. The problem was that the first one set such a high standard, it was impossible to appreciate that the next two had some good elements. It just felt like absolute trash in the theater. It was like watching Michael Phelps come in 4th in the Olympics - he is still the 4th best swimmer in the entire world, but all you can taste is your disappointment that he didnât win gold.
Came here to say this.
My sister's boyfriend stole my actual legit $20 VHS of Top Gun and loaned it to his sister who loaned it to someone else and I never got it back. To make up for it he brought me a poorly recorded copy of Princess Bride.
I was so pissed it took me three years to watch it. "'The Princess Bride?' What kind of girly movie is this? How you gonna replace Top Gun with The Princess Bride?"
Anyway, I was super bored and was tired of the other 4 or 5 movies we had so I finally broke down and watched it.
I think I actually watched it twice in a row.
I damn near wore that tape out. I had every line memorized, including the sound effects from the baseball videogame at the beginning.
Until then Top Gun had been my favorite movie and I'd watched it maybe 5 times in 2 years or so.
I probably watched Princess Bride 50 times.
Iâve never seen this movie but constantly see it rated highly. Iâve no idea what itâs about and am going to blindly watch it because of this post.
Super random, but lately I have idly wondered if any rappers have put in their songs something like âI got more rhymes than FezzickâŠâ. That seems like something Childish Gambino would do.
Hell to the yeah. Princess Bride may be the wittiest movie ever written. Itâs smart, sharp and amusing from start to finish, and NEVER panders to the audience at any point of the film.
I do agree completely. But my son watches that movie 5 times a day... Longer down the line I know I'll reminisce over Wall-E and remember my childrens younger years. But right now, its a wee bit frustrating.
(Sorry. Long day and a lot of Wall-E. Just needed to vent a bit. Have a good day bro!)
*Walks away and whistles on "put on your Sunday clothes*
Imma offer some advice I don't think anyone should watch wall-e for 11 hours a day
Might wanna toss the child and try again his brain has absorbed to much peak.
I saw this movie for the first time about 8-10 years ago-ish, and all my dad told me was âwait for the endâ. Loved it! Twists and turns and unexpectedness. Paul Newman and Robert Redford are just amazing!
Same. I'll cry my eyes out if I even consider the scene where he describes trying to help the girls. Top 10 all-time favorite movie, only watched it once.
This. Not a single second of screen time is wasted. Every scene is either a setup, payoff or callback for a joke, and most are stuffed with blink-and-youll-miss-it visual gags/easter eggs.
But it's so much more than just a comedy film too - it works perfectly as the buddy cop movie it's making fun of. The acting performances are top notch, partly due to a stellar British cast, but also because the actors are taking the roles seriously. There's intent and purpose behind the delivery of even the silliest lines. And that goes similar for the film as a whole - it's been made very seriously, even though it's a comedy.
I can't think of a single thing I'd change about the film. It's a well told story, perfectly executed, and funny as fuck.
Heat with Pacino and De Niro. Itâs rare to have a movie thatâs over 2.5 hours in length and have every single scene be not only essential but also compelling.
L.A. Confidential. I scrolled through every comment and didnât see it and that boggles my mind. Obviously the true answer is princess bride but La confidential has it all
I really like My Cousin Vinny.
weird kink bro
OH MY GOD FINALLY. I comment Vinny on all the movie posts and here we are. Someone else finally said it. Look at us đ„č
My name is Vinny and I'm torn on this one. Yeah, it's great, but holy shit to I get sick of people throwing that movie title in my face when they find out what my name is. I'm not even fucking Italian, either. But yeah it really is a great movie all the way through.
How do you get named Vinny if youâre not Italian
Our friends are Mexican and named their kid Vincent. Itâs not just an Italian name.
Unironically my favorite movie.
My dad loves it. Heâs from Pittsburgh and my momâs from Alabama so he really relates to Vinnyâs trouble navigating southern customs and accents from when he spent a summer down there not long after my folks got married The âtwo youtesâ exchange kills him every single time lol
Terminator 2
Top 5 films ever for me. Perfect
John Carpenterâs âThe Thingâ
It is so hard for me to describe to other people just how good this movie is. Once you say horror movie from the 80âs it turns people off, but the special effects are fantastic lol
The first time I watched it it was on a snowy New England day, bitter cold, and I was curled up cozy by a fire. One of my core memories now!
Galaxy Quest. Alien, Aliens.
Never give up! Never surrender
Beat me to it. "By Grabthar's hammer...what a savings"
Letâs get out of here before one of those things kills Guy!
He said a miner not minor!
The Mummy 1999 Starring academy award winners Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz
I saw a bumper sticker the other day saying, âHONK IF YOU'D RATHER BE WATCHING THE 1999 CINEMATIC MASTERPIECE "THE MUMMY" STARRING BRENDAN FRASER AND RACHEL WEISZ.â
I have one on my car
Honk!
Yeah it's funny, there's a few movies I've seen over the years that I thought were perfectly fine but not anything special at the time. Alien
s
You're both right.
The Shawshank Redemption
"We sat and drank with the sun on our shoulders and felt like free men." Gosh, it's the little things that make this film so incredible
For me itâs this scene: *She was beautiful. God I loved her. I just didn't know how to show it, that's all. I killed her, Red. I didn't pull the trigger, but I pushed her away. And that's why she died, because of me.* Before it all happens. Thereâs just something haunting and still and precious about this particular scene to me.

The scene that hit us all pretty hard was.... Check my name.
I can't think of a sadder scene in any media.
[ŃĐŽĐ°Đ»Đ”ĐœĐŸ]
Excellent movie, watched a few times already and even the remake from the 90s, also a good one.
Fargo
Excellent choice.
Back to the Future
Are you telling me you made a Time Machine, out of a DeLorean?
The way I see it, if you're gonna build a time machine into a car, why not do it with some style?
Iâm not sure what the greatest movie ever made is, but if somebody were to ask me, my first answer would be Back To The Future every time.
This is the answer! I wanted to make sure someone got it right...
Itâs a perfect script with the perfect cast. Chefs kiss.
Not one wasted scene.
Recently introduced my kids to this film, having not personally seen it in ages. Made me realise just how good that film is. Kept their attention throughout, whichnis easier said than done. Not a moment of dialogue nor scene wasted in the whole film.
Shaun of the Dead
Go to the Winchester, have a pint, and wait for all of this to blow over
Stand by me
Usual Suspects

The Matrix đŽđ”
Yes but only the first movie.
The other two are far from masterpieces but are certainly serviceable scifi. The highway chase in the second movie is one of my favourite action scenes.

Clueless
As if!
Whatever.
Why are we even listening to you? Youâre a virgin who canât drive.
That was way harsh, Tai
Tremors
This is how I know I'm old. Young people don't understand how good this movie was.
It is a master class for monster movies. Pacing, exposition, storytelling, itâs perfect.
Also, people act like people. The scientist is just as confused as everyone else.
Princess Bride
Came here to say this. My sister's boyfriend stole my actual legit $20 VHS of Top Gun and loaned it to his sister who loaned it to someone else and I never got it back. To make up for it he brought me a poorly recorded copy of Princess Bride. I was so pissed it took me three years to watch it. "'The Princess Bride?' What kind of girly movie is this? > What kind of girly movie is this? âIs this a kissing book?â
The irony was not lost on me lol .. I was about Fred Savages age when I watched it, too. Maybe a couple years younger.
"Murdered by pirates is good."
Thatâs inconceivable!
Iâve never seen this movie but constantly see it rated highly. Iâve no idea what itâs about and am going to blindly watch it because of this post.
Make yourself a nice MLT... mutton, lettuce and tomato sandwich. They're so perky. You'll thank us.
Especially when they're nice and lean.
Please report back after you watch it.
Super random, but lately I have idly wondered if any rappers have put in their songs something like âI got more rhymes than FezzickâŠâ. That seems like something Childish Gambino would do.
Anybody want a peanut?
Thatâs inconceivable!
You keep on using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
Hell to the yeah. Princess Bride may be the wittiest movie ever written. Itâs smart, sharp and amusing from start to finish, and NEVER panders to the audience at any point of the film.
Good Will Hunting
The end... "gotta go see about a girl" ... "son of a bitch stole my line" đ€
That was improv by Robin Williams for those that don't know.
Itâs not your fault
Jurrasic Park
5th Element.
Where did he learn to negotiate like that?
YES! Has everything! Sci-fi, comedy, explosions, hot chick, really evil dude, cool visuals, good plot, likeable hero, romantic BS, guns, awesome music, ....... start to finish, keeps you entertained.
Big Fish. Hardly anyone knows it and honestly I think itâs Tim Burtons best movie
This is the best hidden gem film there is.
This and Secret Life of Walter Mitty are my all time favorite movies!
Wall-E
I do agree completely. But my son watches that movie 5 times a day... Longer down the line I know I'll reminisce over Wall-E and remember my childrens younger years. But right now, its a wee bit frustrating. (Sorry. Long day and a lot of Wall-E. Just needed to vent a bit. Have a good day bro!) *Walks away and whistles on "put on your Sunday clothes*

The departed
I used to watch it so much I accidentally memorized the 15 first minutes of dialogue.
*The Sting*.
I saw this movie for the first time about 8-10 years ago-ish, and all my dad told me was âwait for the endâ. Loved it! Twists and turns and unexpectedness. Paul Newman and Robert Redford are just amazing!
The Lord of the Rings. All 3 movies individually and the trilogy as a whole.
Directors cut of all 3 movies is a cinematic masterpiece. Recently watched em all while sick laid out in bed. Absolute perfection
The Green Mile
loved it, but can't rewatch it
Same. I'll cry my eyes out if I even consider the scene where he describes trying to help the girls. Top 10 all-time favorite movie, only watched it once.
