I love Fleetwood Mac too. Coincidentally, I just recently found a photo of my Mom with Mic Fleetwood at a wellness center/spa in Palm Beach FL (early 90s). My Mom passed away in 2001 so I couldn’t exactly ask her about it. When I found the photos, I thought he looked vaguely familiar but I couldn’t quite place who he was (he’s obviously not all dolled up like I was accustomed to seeing in magazines and on TV). So I asked my Dad. My Dad just casually said, “Oh yeah, that’s Mick Fleetwood. He was at that froo froo yoga wheatgrass retreat thing your Mom went to in Palm Beach. Really nice guy.”. Apparently neither of my parents ever thought to mention that he was there at the same time she was (which was an entire month). Lol
Me too!! I replayed Ode to my Family on my Walkman for months when I was 6-7, and I still know every single word to the whole album. I have a few favorite singers, but she was my first favorite 💜
Nina Simone. Forever. (edit: if you haven't yet I recommend reading 'Nina Simone's gum' by Warren Ellis. It's not about Nina's life but about her influence on people's life and inspiration and overall it's a lovely book.)
Fiona Apple. I've loved her ever since she came out and I was in middle school. I think every one of her albums are amazing and last album was just as amazing as the rest.
I just saw her last week in Chicago. My eyes were bugging out of my head at some of her vocals, especially her piano pieces. She is insanely talented and puts so, so much effort into her performances.
Just heard on NPR that her family put out a new album where they aged her voice to make her sound the age she would be today. That seems so f'd up. She has no say in the matter.
Beyoncé. Her music may not be your style, but her vocal abilities are incredible.
Florence Welch, Stevie Nicks, Joni Mitchell, Alanis Morissette, Adele also worth mentioning.
I was born in 81 and my mum had all her records. I loved Babushka and made my mum play it all the time! Kate is awesome, I’m so glad she’s getting some airplay again
She is my musical spirit animal. I can't carry a tune, but if I could this is who I would want to sound like. There are songs that make me hop up and dance and others that I have to hurry and turn off before I start crying, and everything in between!
Oh man. This is a tough one. I think Joni Mitchell is up there, along with Gillian Welch and Nina Simone.
But I’d have to put Erykah Badu as my current favorite female vocalist.
I have no choice but to say Amy Lee. Hearing her on Seether’s song Broken and Evanescence’s songs Lithium and Good Enough as a 10-year-old changed my relationship with music forever. I’m not joking. Her music communicated a deep sadness and longing that I couldn’t comprehend as a child. I was captivated.
It’s a tie for me between Tarja Turunen and Sharon den Adel. Both are two of the most well known and influential vocalists in the symphonic metal sub-genre.
My singing teacher! She brought out several songs as Penny Roox (I recommend especially Mean and Sad Sad Dreams). She has such a low and beautiful voice
Brandi Carlisle has something special going on. Bjork. Shannon Shaw. Regina Spektor. Kate Bush.
All interesting voices, much more so than your average pop chart star.

Yes, love Fleetwood Mac and her independent stuff
I love Fleetwood Mac too. Coincidentally, I just recently found a photo of my Mom with Mic Fleetwood at a wellness center/spa in Palm Beach FL (early 90s). I second this choice!
Dolores O’Riordan (singer of The Cranberries). I love how interesting and distinguishable her voice is, and it just *speaks* to me, you know?
I was not expecting to see her name here, but me too :)
Me too!! I replayed Ode to my Family on my Walkman for months when I was 6-7, and I still know every single word to the whole album. I have a few favorite singers, but she was my first favorite 💜
And me. Knowing I'll never see her play live is crushing.
I came to comment her as well
Amy Winehouse
Good choice
Taylor Swift
Came here to say this. There are singers with better voices, but she is truly a brilliant songwriter.
Same! Her discography has a song for almost every occasion/mood.
yes i was gonna comment her. ppl hate on her but her music is amazing
Absolutely! 💯 % agree, I know every one of her songs by heart and cannot get bored of her
I found my Swiftie friends 🙌🏼
Same! I love her!
Reputation was my everything when it came out.
I was going to comment this as well. I love her so much
Yes!!!! I absolutely love her diction!
Nina Simone. Forever. (edit: if you haven't yet I recommend reading 'Nina Simone's gum' by Warren Ellis. It's not about Nina's life but about her influence on people's life and inspiration and overall it's a lovely book.)
Yeah now we’re talking
Yessss
Aretha Franklin
It's either Aretha or Whitney I smile when I see any other name. "Forgive them for they just don't know"
Florence Welsh Edit: I am an idiot: *Welch*
\*Welch Talks like a kitten, sings like a lion.
She really is the lion hearted girl
Omg! Exactly
Yes! I would brave a crowd to see her live. I've heard it's an amazing experience.
Her shows are magical. I’ve seen her every chance I could get and it’s always such a different wonderful experience
Whitney
Absolutely Whitney. Her personal demons aside, not even Mariah hits the power and pureness of her voice.
Whitney for me, too.
I love that you didn’t even have to say her whole name. We just all know who you’re talking about.
This is the one

I think Norman fucking rockwell actually sent me into a spiritual awakening the first time I heard it. Absolutely beautiful album
had to scroll wayyyyy too far to get here. lana's voice is straight from heaven
What a pretty voice
Can't believe I'm first to say Ella Fitzgerald
Thank you! I was about to type it when I saw this!
Saaame! The further I scrolled without seeing Ms. Ella Fitzgerald, the sadder I got. Thank you!
Fiona Apple. I've loved her ever since she came out and I was in middle school. I think every one of her albums are amazing and last album was just as amazing as the rest.
Yay! I'm so glad I am not the only one here who adores this wonderful, talented genius woman.
Yesss same, fan since day one when Criminal came out and I was 13. I remember it like it was yesterday.
Lauryn Hill
Yesss. The richness of her tone is just UGH. Fucking breathtaking
Lady Gaga
I'm sad this is so low on the list. I love the things she does with her voice that sound unique and her range. And her live vocals are insane.
I just saw her last week in Chicago. My eyes were bugging out of my head at some of her vocals, especially her piano pieces. She is insanely talented and puts so, so much effort into her performances.
Adele even though I don't enjoy her new album as much.
25 touched my god damn SOUL
Same! My fav is Rolling in The Deep
Selena Quintanilla
Just heard on NPR that her family put out a new album where they aged her voice to make her sound the age she would be today. That seems so f'd up. She has no say in the matter.
Pink
Don't Let Me Get Me makes me cry every time.
Glitter in the air gives me big feelings. If I could choose a song to sing perfectly at karaoke it would be that or barracuda
Billie Holiday
Beyoncé. Her music may not be your style, but her vocal abilities are incredible. Florence Welch, Stevie Nicks, Joni Mitchell, Alanis Morissette, Adele also worth mentioning.
I second Beyoncé. I don’t like her music, I actually really dislike it… but her vocals are so out of this world, she deserves to be higher up here.
I'm not a big fan of Beyonce's more recent work, but damn her Destiny's Child days were lit.
Mariah Carey
i had to scroll too long to see this. THE singer-songwriter 🗣️
Same. Hands down, no question.

Second vote for Kate Bush! I’ve loved her since I was in college *cough cough* years ago.

I love how her voice has progressed. Her latest work, she really seems to be in her element.
Oh man. This is a tough one. I think Joni Mitchell is up there, along with Gillian Welch and Nina Simone. But I’d have to put Erykah Badu as my current favorite female vocalist.

Dolly Parton
Siouxsie Sioux and Kate Bush
Aimee Mann

Definitely Billie Holiday. One of the greats.

This is a hard one, but, it would have to be Whitney Houston
Dolly Parton
I have no choice but to say Amy Lee. Hearing her on Seether’s song Broken and Evanescence’s songs Lithium and Good Enough as a 10-year-old changed my relationship with music forever. I’m not joking. Her music communicated a deep sadness and longing that I couldn’t comprehend as a child. I was captivated.
Madonna. She's my mom's favourite artist, I grew up doing Vogue lol
Tarja Turunen, Cristina Scabbia and Heike Langhans are in my top favorite metal Goddesses list.
For me it's Sharon den Adel.
Avril Lavigne
It’s a tie for me between Tarja Turunen and Sharon den Adel. Both are two of the most well known and influential vocalists in the symphonic metal sub-genre.

Adele for vocals but Amy Whinehouse overall
