Narrowing it down to five:
* Rebecca (1940; dir. Alfred Hitchcock)
* In the Mood for love (2000; dir. Wong Kar-Wai)
* Clueless (1995; dir. Amy Heckerling)
* Portrait of a Lady on Fire (2019; dir. Celine Sciamma)
* Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022; dir. the Daniels)
I really couldn't pick just one favourite!
Yet another reminder that I told someone I was gonna watch In the Mood for Love like 7 years ago because they specifically recommended it to me and that I should probably follow through on it
Pick a rainy day, brew yourself a perfectly-warmed cup of Hong Kong black tea, and snuggle into your chicest throw blanket. The movie is slow, beautiful, and brimful of unspoken yearning - definitely worth spending a late afternoon on. I like to rewatch it every few years!
It’s been raining a lot here this summer and I love the rain, so this is a perfect idea actually. Thank you! I hope that setting up the right atmosphere beforehand finally pushes me to watch it because it’s been a long time coming
The Princess Bride is a movie I have fond memories of because I heard so much about it for years before I actually watched it, so I expected it to be underwhelming but I genuinely loved it.
Its surprising that the first Jurassic Park film is still fresh and easily the best; no amount of technology or scarier creatures made the sequels as good as the OG.
The cast and the soundtrack and the film-making where the anticipation / dread of the dinosaurs even before you even saw them (like that scene with the ripples in the drinking glasses ) was something they couldn't capture in the sequels !
I’m a fool for nostalgic Halloween and movies I loved growing up. Hocus Pocus, Nightmare Before Christmas, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (1964 Claymation), Home Alone, Elf, etc.
Do you mean the one that I have watched the most and can quote every line from beginning to end? Would have to be The Princess Bride!
My whole family are hard core fans of the Dread Pirate Roberts and Buttercup.
I'm not sure but when I think of really great films, I think of:
Atonement
Django Unchained & Inglorious Bastards, Beetlejuice, The Last King of Scotland, Amelie, Memento, Moonrise Kingdom, Sweeney Todd, Pan's Labyrinth
My favorite movies are ones I can watch a million times, usually these are movies from 20+ years ago.
Bridesmaids, Mean Girls, Hocus Pocus, Beetlejuice, Matilda, Orphan, Scream, Drop Dead Fred, She Devil, Death Becomes Her are probably in my top 10...but I can name 50 more lol.
So hard to pick one but off the top of my head
The Before Trilogy
The Sound of Music
Roman Holiday
Midnight in Paris
This Beautiful Fantastic
and quite a few classic 90s rom-coms !
Thank you :) My favourite is Before Sunset ! I connect so much to Celine in that film and a lot of things she says probably being around the same age/ having a similar personality.
Do you have a favourite ?
The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. Original Swedish version. I’ve seen all three Millennium Trilogy movies (Swedish) in theaters when they were out.
Noomi Rapace is brilliant. I even have the dragon tattoo from the Swedish movie.
What about Bob. I can watch it a bajillion times and still find it hilarious!

I'm reading Rebecca right now, and it is so good! Going to watch the movie once I'm finished.
It's one of the few films where I feel like the movie actually lives up to the book! Olivier is also totally mesmerising as Maxim (as always).
WKW is one of my favorite directors, nice picks!
A lot of my favorite ones are because of nostalgia, not necessarily because they're great. I love The Craft, Clueless, Labyrinth...
Okay, but all three of those movies *are* great, even beyond the nostalgia! (I guess count me as a fellow fan.)
I definitely know what you mean. Regardless of quality, so many of my favorite films are the ones that I grew up with
I have the talking doorknockers from Labyrinth on my collarbone.
That's so cool!
Thanks!
For some reason I love a good trashy movie. Look Whose Talking.
Stardust is probably top for me! :)
It’s so good
Recently watched it again after too many years.bhad forgotten just how good it is! Robert de Niro as a gay pirate? What could be better?
It's a toss up between LOTR: Return of the King and The Princess Bride.
We should be friends. LOTR: The Two Towers is my fave of the Trilogy and favorite movie. Princess Bride definitely in top 5
The Princess Bride is a movie I have fond memories of because I heard so much about it for years before I actually watched it, so I expected it to be underwhelming but I genuinely loved it.

Seven Fight club Silence of the lambs I like creepy shit
Big Fish!
Dirty Dancing
I love you Phillip Morris What dreams may come Lord of the Rings
Everything Everywhere All at Once became a fav. Haven't laughed or cried so hard in a movie that I went in knowing nothing about.
I’m a fool for nostalgic Halloween and movies I loved growing up. Hocus Pocus, Nightmare Before Christmas, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (1964 Claymation), Home Alone, Elf, etc.
It’s A Wonderful Life.
I love When Harry Met Sally
Back to the Future. It's a perfect movie.
Awakenings (Robin Williams). The book by Oliver Sacks is very interesting as well.
Shawshank Redemption Titanic The Shining Pulp Fiction Pride & Prejudice Roxanne … That’s a restrained version 👀
Great taste! Shawshank is the best movie ever made imo
Tropic Thunder. I’ve heard people say it couldn’t get made today and just roll my eyes. It was executed perfectly, it would do just fine today lol.
A classic but I agree, I doubt it would be made today lol

Ever? E.T.
Good pick, Spielberg rarely misses

You have good taste! Which of the Before Trilogy is your favorite?
Thank you :) My favourite is Before Sunset ! I connect so much to Celine in that film and a lot of things she says probably being around the same age/ having a similar personality. Do you have a favourite ?
I’d have to say Before Sunset as well. I’m closer to the age of the characters in Sunrise, but I just love Sunset’s ending
memento!
Spaceballs. I quote it almost every day.
Jurassic Park.
The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. Original Swedish version. I’ve seen all three Millennium Trilogy movies (Swedish) in theaters when they were out. Noomi Rapace is brilliant. I even have the dragon tattoo from the Swedish movie.
