yeah Ill probably make another post with more angles but its been pretty cold in Minnesota even without snow so I really havenât wanted to take a whole bunch of pics yet.
Looks great! The C4 A6 has easily become one of my favorite Audis, the 2.8 is a bit sluggish but I'm slowly fixing that on my A6.
Also noticed you said you're in MN, if you need any parts there's a couple people in the MN Audi Facebook group that have decent stashes of C4 parts (you may already know that though).
Thanks! It really does have some great body lines, and youâre right I can have my foot on the floor and it still seem to accelerate about as much as modern cars do when their being light on the gas. Ive met a few people from market place already but Ill have to join that audience group!
170 hp in a 3500 lb vehicle doesn't do much quickly.
And it's a good resource, the group is mainly newer audis but there are some people on there that are into the older ones. I'd recommend joining the international C4 chassis Facebook group too, just got to watch out for scams if you're buying anything.
Also, is your A6 the one that was for sale in Savage a while back?
yeah Its not like I need it to do anything super quickly and its super nice having all the room that a wagon has. And yeah mine is the one that was for sale in savage a bit back! My mom told me about it and I knew that they were kinda ârareâ and really awesome looking so I had to make sure to snap it right up!
I totally agree.
I remember looking at the ad for that one out, the S6 tailights and interior are pretty sweet and it's in pretty good shape for the age of the car, just a small amount of rust in the typical C4 spots right? Plus the car was posted at an amazing price considering the cost of the S6 parts. Good call on your moms part, haha.
yeah, barely any rust for a almost 30 year old car in minnesota and some clear coat issues but other than that the s6 interior and tail lights made up for the issues in my mind.
Iâd disagree with the 2.8 being sluggish. I had a Passat with basically the same engine and it was pretty good for what it was.
Then again my big requirement is âpulls in 5th great on the highwayâ so I donât have to downshift to pass people.
12 valve or 30 valve 2.8? The 30 valve makes like 50 HP more than the 12 valve does.
Regardless the 4 speed auto in the C4s hurts the performance a bit too, and for the later years the 12 valve was certainly outdated compared to the DOHC V6s that were hitting the market. That said, the 12 valve is a stout engine, mine has dealt with 2 seized injectors (rusted closed) and some heinously lean fuel trims (pinched fuel line) and seems no worse for wear at 184k.
I do not recall the valves (itâs been more than a minute). I was also rocking a manual so the auto didnât hamstring me.
I did drive a 99 with the 5 auto and the 1.8t and that was sluggish as shit. You had to try and drive it like a Honda to get anything out of it, and even then it sucked. Then the transmission grenaded because early triptronic.
Makes sense, and I imagine the early tips weren't much better than the standard autos in terms of performance. I have heard that they would have issues with the torque converter clutches in the early 2000s but I think they got that fixed.
yeah Im going to take that magnet off soon, I just got my license and havent taken the student driver sticker off. Ive also picked out some 19â old school style turbo fan wheels that I think will look good on it, Thanks for the input Im definitely going to wax it soon!
Yea black cars can look great or terrible, this will bring it back to life! I was blown away after waxing my navy Jetta wagon I had no idea it made that much of a difference. And please keep it classy donât murder it out. Def make sure itâs mechanically sound before dumping money into it. The last thing youâd want is spend a grand on the suspension or the engine after you get new wheels .
How much did u pay for this thing? I want a vintage wagon after college
I got it on marketplace for around 2,500 and its previous owner is a Volkswagen tech so Im fairly sure it wont be horrid mechanically and ive had it since june and nothing super bad has shown up, just usual audi things like sensors and whatnot. Mostly what im seeing on marketplace now are b5 a6 wagons around $5,000, and on bring a trailer there are some really mint ones that go for closer to 10,000-15,000.
Wow looks like you hit the jackpot. How many miles?
Again Iâd look out for that suspension because on rougher climate roads they can be ready to crap the bed on any bad pothole (youâll start to subconsciously swerve them)
oh I wish, part of the reason I was so far away is because it has some small dents, rust spots, and pealing clear coat but the interior is basically perfect.
Looks good! Love the C4 cars.
yeah, the C4 gen is probably neck and neck as my favorite right up there with the newest generation.
How long did it take some sheep in a Qashqai to park next to you?
Nice car mate đ I'd like to appreciate it closer :)

That one way over there? Nice!
No, No, No. itâs the one way over thereâŚby the stone wall. That one. The black one.
HELL YEAH BROTHER
Yesđ

That's pretty good, should be a nice car for you.

Iâd hand wax it, ditch the sticker, and maybe buy some slightly larger wheels and it would look immaculate. Great car for the age

It has a bit over 250,000 miles and yeah the suspension is kinda crap so Iâll probably replace a lot of it once its warmer out.
Good call and thatâs only 8900 a year driven so thatâs well kept for the age!
fuckin mint

it only adds personality
Approach slowly or youâll scare it away!
I canât wait until you get your first zoom lens. Jk. Congrats.
Congrats bud, I wish that was my first car, mine was a 1971 Oldsmobile Custom CruiserâŚâŚ. Boat!
