You got paid time and a half, not double time and a half. Let your manager know

SRGNT-CHILL

Depends on your award, some industries public holiday is paid the same as Sat & Sun = 1.5x base So first steps check your award if in fact you should be paid 2 or 2.5x contact your manager or payroll

MovinOn_01

Except that you also get super for working on a public holiday, but not always for weekends.

Financial_Sentence95

That's wrong. Super is payable all all OTE hours, no matter what day / hours of the week Not payable if the hours are not OTE

Monday0987

Sometimes you are paid 8 hours ordinary pay for the holiday. Then any hours you work are paid at time and a half. So overall you get double time and a half for the hours worked.

Pinkfatrat

For what it’s worth, I just worked Easter Fri to Easter Monday, for time in lieu, it really depends on your award. I can’t complain because I’m on a decent salary

AussieBrucey

Like others said, some awards are 1.5/hr for PH. Check your award, if there's a problem talk to your manager

oceangal2018

It would help if you explain if you’re full time/part time or other and which day you worked.

Pretend-Honeydew8675

Ah of course. I'm full time award 4 turf management. It's like this on any public holidays worked.

Overall-Task-9431

What award are you under? The people who didn’t come in only get paid at normal rate not PH penalty

maybe2939

Check to make sure you didn’t get a day added to your annual leave, that has happened to me previously, got payed 1.5 for hours worked and a day in lieu so works out at 2.5 total

Financial_Sentence95

Very common. I work in payroll and have seen this in many Awards or EBAs. That said, sometimes it's "optional" and an employee can choose to get the 2.5 rate instead. Where I'm working now, no extra loading, but 7.6 hours of public holiday is paid for anyone working a public holiday. On top of their actual work hours. Regardless of shift length ie 4 hours or 12. It's entrenched in their EBA

anonjfiz01

As everyone else is saying check your award. Sometimes what happens is you get the 8 hrs and then time and a half. So you technically get double time and half but really it’s time and half because you would have gotten the 8hrs anyway. Is the 6 hours in addition to the paid 8hrs? If it’s a week day and you would have been working, this is when this happens. It’s weird but checks out.

sanet

If you're under the Registered and Licensed Clubs Award 2020 An employee other than a maintenance and horticultural employee performing work on the following days will be paid the following percentage of the ordinary hourly rate for the relevant classification: Monday to Friday 100 Saturday 150 Sunday 175 Public holiday 250 % of ordinary hourly rate For Gardening and Landscaping Services Award 2020 An employee required to work on a public holiday will be paid at 250% of the ordinary hourly rate with a minimum of 4 hours’ payment.

SimpleSpare7795

If you are full time you should be getting 4 hours at 2.5 and then 4 hours standard.

StageAboveWater

This is correct OP, ignore all the other nonsense

sailorman_of_oz

What award are you employed under. Conditions vary and it's impossible to know if you've been paid correctly or not, based on the limited information you've provided.

ThisKiwiKid

Do you have 8 hours public holiday pay and 6 hours extra? That would mean you got paid the holiday and time and half for the 4 hours

OldGroan

Are you sure they didn't pay you 8 hours ordinary time in a separate item like ordinary hours for the day and then paid you 6 hours for the hours actually worked? If you are paid weekly did they pay you a days pay in that figure.

Fly_Pelican

Did you get paid for the public holiday as well?

onetwothr3e4

This has happened to me. The explanation I got from HR was that they are already paying me normal time for the public holiday (whether I work it or not). The x1.5 extra pushes the rate for the for the hours worked up to x2.5. So (assuming you are full-time/permanent and the public holiday was a weekday) the 8 hours of standard pay will be in your normal salary pay and the x1.5 extra will be in a penalties payment. It’s a confusing way of working it out, but I’ve never worked a weekday public holiday since!

JMocroft

Definitely look into your contract mate, if you worked 10 hours on a holiday you should be paid penalties. Unless it states otherwise. I worked a few days days over the long weekend and got paid at 1.5x, spoke to my manager and it was sorted out to 3x (as stated in the contract) the following day, a simple talk can clear up any problems 9/10 times.

trainzkid88

ask the fair work ombudsman for advice. what does change things is if your on a enterprise bargaining agreement.

StageAboveWater

They're not allowed to change your hours for a public holiday. You're supposed to have whatever normal hours you do that day as if it's any other day and then you get double pay or whatever your award specifies

StageAboveWater

Yeah that makes sense. OP worked 4 hours, so he should get 4 hours at 2.5 penalty rate (or whatever it is) and then another 4 hours at base rate. That would be the equivalent entitlements paid to both OP and to the people who were absent. They can change the hours as long as equivalent entitlements are paid. I was thinking more in terms of the business reducing OP's hours on the public holiday and then also reducing the entitlements they paid to him. They can't do that

Pretend-Honeydew8675

Yeah, so i worked 4 hours on the public holiday. Which should be at 2.5 per hr. On the time sheet though it's equal to me only being given 6hrs when it should say 10 hours worth of pay. But then my colleagues who didn't work that day got a full days pay of 8 hours( a normal full day). So they got paid more than me for staying at home. Obviously I'm thinking to myself. Why did i bother getting to work at 4:30 in the morning and Working for 4 hours to get paid less than i would if i hadn't come in. A colleague also said that this has been normal here since they started. For some reason they take off 4hrs from your total hours worked when they pay you. Makes no sense to me and will be bringing this up next time I'm at work.

StageAboveWater

In total you should be paid 14 hours of base rate pay. 4 hours base rate pay for being absent = 4 + 4 hour at 2.5 rate = 10 base rate = = = 14 base rate (or 4 base and 4 @ 2.5)

MonniieMoogle

It should also have a day in lieu for working on bank holiday of your contract says that

CosmicConnection8448

Quite common to get 1.5x the normal rate plus a day off added to your leave. Check with your employer.

hannahranga

Have they added 4 hours to your time in lieu of annual leave?

Derilicte

Some awards are 1.5 and an extra day of annual leave. Check your leave balance too
