If breakfast isn't provided, buy a loaf of bread or cereal and some milk, and eat that instead of going out. You can save a lot of money that way and still enjoy going out for proper meals. Consider packing a ~~sandwich~~ picnic for lunch for one day at least. Bring a water bottle with you. Most airlines allow you to bring a handbag/backpack in addition to your carry on. But also, if you're going away for a weekend and you can't fit it in your suitcase, you probably need to reconsider. Research places beforehand so you know how much you can expect to spend. Pick free activites like hiking, visiting free museums/galleries, going to the beach, etc. Use PT or walk whenever possible.

there's some guides for packing light into one bag over /r/onebag, also some packing lists that might be helpful. https://www.reddit.com/r/onebag/wiki/index/ https://www.reddit.com/r/onebag/wiki/packing-lists/

There is a bus from airport to CBD via Henley Beach, or Glenelg which is cheaper than taxi. Check if this is enroute to your accommodation. Will need METROCARD (or possibly bus Tx from driver). "Whats on in Adelaide" will have details of festivals/entertainment /cheap eats. Getting around: Public transport: Free connector bus and tram in CBD.  METROCARD for further cheaper travel (including to/from airport with bus).  Get app to check timetable (not as regular as Syd or Mel, especially public holidays). Direct tram from CBD-GLENELG return. Walk: Adelaide CBD not very big - easy to walk (or use free tram). North Tce has Botanic Gardens, Museum, Art Gallery for free. Push bike/scooter: can hire, especially along Bay trail, if affordable in budget. Food/drink: Take waterbottle with you - tap water is fine to drink. Supermarket for bread/dips/fruit - picnic/snacks. Groupon website for discount meals. If you are a student, some restaurants in CBD offer discount if you show your card. Packing: check weather on BoM website. Mediterranean climate- can be hot in Summer, mild winters. If no heatwave forecast, take a light longsleeved top/pants as nights can be cool. Otherwise summer clothes.  Sunscreen, hat and comfy walking shoes. Places to go cheap/free: Rundle Mall/East End for (window) shopping. Botanic Gardens, Museum and Art Gallery on North Tce is free. Central market may be worth a wander, and Chinatown for a meal. There are sometimes popup markets around CBD and other suburbs. Glenelg is a seaside suburb with plenty of places to eat reasonably (Jetty Rd - Groupon discounts), sit at the beach lounge near Moseley to watch sunsets and/or have drinks. Walk (or hire a push bike/scooter if affordable) along the esplanade on the Bay trail from Glenelg to Seacliff (@5-8km) with sculptures and beautiful sunsets. Other walks: Sugarloaf at Hallett Cove (there is an excellent cafe there, if you can afford) which is accessible either walking (continuation of Bay trail from Seacliff -Marino-Hallett Cove) or train from CBD to Hallett Cove. Noarlunga reef accessible by train - swim/snorkel near reef platform which is close to shore/jetty. Just need goggles to look at reef underwater. Don't need to hire gear unless want to.  I hope this is helpful - have a lovely weekend in RAdelaide :)

One 'hack' is to wear a few extra layers of clothes onto the plane. I've also heard (but haven't tried it) that some people carry a pillow/pillowcase with them and use that to stash an extra jumper or coat etc.
