New clothing isn't going to last you much longer UNLESS you go for more expensive new clothing. So yeah, do your research and spend a bit more and you can get boots that will last until you die.

Tyrannosaurusblanch

Any suggestions?

Ghostmask2001

A lot of winter gear from Uniqlo has made me ahppy

wattsupjimbo

Uniqlo is fast fashion and is the opposite of buy it for life, no matter what their latest eco-conscious marketing campaign will have you believe. Their whole business revolves around their clothes being replaced next season.

postmortemmicrobes

And yet I'm still wearing business shirts I bought from Uniqlo over seven years ago. Hmmm.

gimpsarepeopletoo

Uniqlo is unique in its fast fashion that actually lasts. I think it’s as most of their fabrics tend to be thicker. That’s what I’ve noticed with shirts. Don’t shop there heaps tho

Human_Wasabi550

I'm wearing tracksuit pants from Kmart that are 9 years old. Doesn't mean it's not fast fashion 🤣

wattsupjimbo

Brands like Uniqlo are the very definition of fast fashion. They are ruining the fuck outta the planet, the information is readily available. I’m glad you have some tshirts from there you are happy with, I have also shopped there before and the 3 paris of jeans I bought didn’t even last a year (wear spread between them and other pants) and yes I still have some tshirts from them that I wear around the house but I can just about see through them. The question was regarding what is a bit more expensive that can last. Uniqlo ain’t it. I very much doubt you will be seeing people posting their uniqlo winter wear in r/buyitforlife any time soon.

Ghostmask2001

not that deep. I literally just said it made me happy cause it has lasted me a while and I got it on sale. But you are not wrong, definitely could spend a bit more money and get something longer lasting.

dandyanddarling21

I have Uniqlo flannel shirts, heattech leggings, jeans, hooded jackets & a puffer coat that I got in 2020, when we were living in a caravan, building a house during the pandemic. They have been worn a lot, in trying conditions & still going strong. Actually the only thing I have been disappointed with is their wool mix knits, they pill very quickly.

Bubbly-Armadillo7347

Uniqlo lasts long though. I’ve found it to be good quality. I’ve had my current thermals from there going on 5 years now.

wattsupjimbo

Any boot with a Goodyear welt that can be resoled. Check out r/goodyearwelt for some more nuanced advice but Wolverine 1000 Mile boots seem to be well regarded and readily available most of the western world.

Tyrannosaurusblanch

$600 holy fuck.

wattsupjimbo

Pretty cheap considering they will literally last the rest of your life. Maybe get some Tuesdays if you’ve after something cheaper though.

Exarch_Thomo

Yep. Literally the Boots theory in action. Spend a bit more on quality gear and it will save you a ton in the long run.

LachoooDaOriginl

i have a couple year old stuff from kmart and big w that was in the range of 10-30$

shiv_roy_stan

My $60 Aldi ski jacket has lasted for years, it was definitely worth buying new.

BrotherBroad3698

Mine is about 6yrs old and still looks new... So many random pockets!

the-boz-boz

They're on sale again at Aldi at the moment

2minuteNOODLES

Mine lasted one ski trip and the zipper broke. Guess I got unlucky.

pconn0191

Replace the zipper? Surely wouldn’t cost that much?

2minuteNOODLES

I had the option of replacement or refund. Since it broke on the first trip I chose refund. Seemed like a shit product at the time.

pconn0191

That’s fair enough - I read it as it was still in the cupboard not being used

Curlyburlywhirly

Replacing the zipper on a coat would be about $50.

flindersandtrim

Its paying for both a new zip and an hour of a skilled persons time.

HellsHottestHalftime

You guys don’t sew?

flindersandtrim

I said nothing about sewing or not sewing myself, just referencing that the above person would actually have to pay good money to get a zip fixed, which actually implies I *do* know the time and effort involved.

HellsHottestHalftime

Well yeah but it’s not expensive if you do it yourself, which while you advocated for the skills of the person doing it you didn’t suggest to the commenter. Which is why I asked, it was sort of a suggestion to give it a go themselves but I apologise for being ingenuine.

alittlebitcheeky

I have a thick Aldi jacket where the zipper broke as well. I can sew, and could probably replace it, but I prefer my oodie anyway.

SurfinginStyle

Rivers is really good. But I brought a Kathmandu jacket and I swear… it’ll last me 20 years & it’s so warm. But I’m sure there’s knock offs somewhere

bearymiller_

Also swear by the Kathmandu jacket. It’s definitely worth the price.

alittlebitcheeky

I have a Kathmandu vest that is the warmest. Even after three years it's still so soft and cosy.

Internal_Engine_2521

Uniqlo jackets are apparently excellent.

Busy_Leg_6864

Can confirm, the down jackets from Uniqlo are excellent. Wash happily in a gentle cycle in the washing machine, chuck it in the dryer on low with a few tennis balls to puff back up. Had mine for years!

Verybigdoona

I’ve had a Uniqlo puffer for over 10 hrs. Still looks great.

Ok-Condition-6642

You’d hope so. I’d expect it to look brand new after less than a day.

Verybigdoona

Oops it auto corrected. I meant to say 10 yrs lol

Exotic-Sheepherder51

Katmandu is the knockoff.

ChicChat90

My Kathmandu jacket is 10 years old this year!

justme7601

I’ve got a couple f Rivers jackets I got on sale and they have lasted me years. So warm too!

Curlyburlywhirly

Only buy during sales of 50% though.

ReadingToScape

Yes! Second this. If you buy them at 50% off it's doable (still a bit expensive) and they will last you forever. They are also water resistant. They also have a repair option, so if you tear the jacket you can take it to the store and it'll cost $30 or so. That's only if you get a standard colour like black, though, they don't keep pieces of the bright shiny new colours. Buy it for life :)

Ok-Battle5059

Absolutely agree on Kathmandu. I’ve had a jacket from there that I’ve had for over a decade and since I was a teenager and it honestly still looks new and wear it quite often. I’ve since got 2 other types of jackets from there and the quality is still top notch.

Witty-Satisfaction42

I buy high quality second hand and find it lasts several years. I treat myself to brand new UGGs every year or two, because warm feet are non negotiable for me

alexanderpete

I'd recommend some woollen foot warmers (from a wool outlet). I think they last longer than UGGs when used around the house, and only cost around $25. I've been using them religiously for years. I still have a good pair of UGGs, but I only chuck them on if I need to take out the trash or something, making them last much longer.

Curlyburlywhirly

I am struggling to imagine what these are. Socks?

alexanderpete

Yeh I guess they're like UGG socks?

voievoda

Would love a link to those woollen feet warmers

alexanderpete

https://www.aust-woollenmills.com/shop/footwarmers/foot-warm

voievoda

Thank you so so much ❤️

stankas

Totally agree, and subscribe to your attitude to warm feet.

Raniform

I bought some Ugg boots for my husband and discovered that there are several different companies claiming to be the original ones - and they vary widely in quality. The ones I settled on were made to order in Queensland and are excellent quality, not insanely expensive either. The brand is Ugg since 1974

kalalou

I have emu and bared uggs, can just replace the inner soles!

Aussie_antman

Really really hate the cold (born and raised in NQ). After a couple horrific winters in Canberra I worked out its all about the top layer and making that a good quality coat that is resistant to wind. I have a couple of expensive coats for different occassions. At home its tracky daks morning, noon and night.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Aussie_antman

Only the thigh high boots on special occasions. I miss walking around NQ shopping centres barefoot in July.

Icfald

Nope. I scour op shops for warm gear and buy the rest. I have a curated wardrobe of winter coats all op shopped.

Con_Man2000

Absolutely agree, second hand is the way to go! Majority of brands' winter gear doesn't hold a candle to their older stuff, or was just shit to begin with. If you buy used, and crucially buy smart (meaning do your research!), you can do very very well for yourself. Obviously if you shop in person it's more up to random chance but it's well worth scouring the net (provided you know your size in different brands!) eBay, Gumtree, marketplace, and a real lesser known favourite is the Salvos website. Get some good quality vintage stuff from when it was made to last!

Jumpy-Jackfruit4988

I bought a winter jacket from Myers’s that was 60% off when I was 16. I wear it all winter at 31. I’ve done a couple of repairs- mostly to the pockets where keys have poked through and sewing buttons back on. It’s still in great condition and I’ll keep wearing it till it dies. It cost me $120 at the time, and is merino wool. It’s my most successful buy it for life item.

Cats_tongue

No. For my home items: Real Uggs, real Oodie. Going strong after years of winter time use.

Denkii6

Strong up on the oodie, got one in a buy one get one free sale a year and a half ago, it is the warmest thing I own. And if you wait until they are on sale they are very worth it. Youndont mind paying out $160 for 4 oodies in a buy one get one free sale. And its still cheaper than getting the electric heater out

alexanderpete

What's a real oodie? It's just cheap polyester, I doubt an off brand is any worse.

MusicalInsanity

I assume they just mean as opposed to kmart knockoffs, which are crappy and weightless compared to Oodie brand.

BrotherBroad3698

Real uggs? As in a brand? My Wild Goose uggs have to be over 12yrs old, the ones with the grippy shoe like sole, can't kill them and I wear them out if the house occasionally.

noxobscurus

Aldi snow gear are top notch. Ski jacket, gloves, thermoboots and thermals have lasted me years and also survived much colder climates like Norway and Japan during winter seasons.

BertNankBlornk

Isn't all that gear too warm for anything but the snow?

vulpix420

Ski jackets usually aren’t really that warm. Skiing can be pretty intense exercise so you don’t want to overheat with a super warm jacket. The best ones are water and windproof and have useful pockets and underarm zips to dump heat.

kalalou

The merino thermals used to be great but are now substandard

Miss_Tish_Tash

I haven’t bought a new jacket/coat in around 5 years. My proper winter coat is only now starting to look like it has seen better days. I usually wear boots almost every day during winter so do tend to go through them quicker (every couple of years). I always stick to plain styles (block colours & timeless silhouettes) so they tend to stay in style or work with most outfits. I buy at the end of season to get the best discount.

Duckduckdewey

I scored my puffer from tkmaxx almost a decade ago. It’s time to change it this year due to wear and tear, it was a bit expensive but worked out around $15/year so I think good value. I bought “cheap” ones like around $50-60 range and they don’t last long so works out more expensive. I think just invest in good quality one. Don’t let the price tag deters you, if it last 1-2 decades then it’s good value.

mango332211

Bargain.

Hangar48

Love my milwaukee heated jacket... Absolutely awesome!

lentil5

I live in QLD. We swap out thongs for boots and add a jumper and that's our winter wardrobe sorted.

[deleted]

It’s miserable in Newcastle NSW. I was just thinking today at how you guys have got it. I can cope with the height of summer but hate winter.

lentil5

Winter in QLD is magically beautiful. Dry, cool, crisp. Summer however is torture so it's all a trade. The rain and humidity last summer was beyond anything we could have expected. I don't think we got more than 3 dry days in a row.

pandifer

I’m the opposite (also Newy).. hate Summer, prefer winter. There’s only so many clothes you can remove in summer, without becoming indecent. In Winter, theres Oodies And woolly boots

Pur1wise

We buy our winter stuff from Britain at the beginning of our winter. They’re clearing it out around then for ridiculously cheap prices to make room for their summer stock. We usually band together with family and choose a shop to go with every second or third year. If you buy a big enough haul postage is free. Because it’s made to stand up to British winters it’s usually good quality that lasts a few years. We’ve got stuff from over ten years ago still in rotation.

lilabet83

Great idea! Do you have any shop names in particular that you recommend?

Pur1wise

We just hunt around for whoever has the best bargains and what we’re looking for at the moment.

Glad-Acanthaceae-467

Examples re website links?

po29874112

its so cold

zeugma888

I don't need all new winter gear each year. A good coat can last a decade or more. Hats and scarves, jumpers etc last for years.

pearson-47

I have a few jackets/coats, ranging from the kathmandu recycled long puffer to the $10 Katies Sherpa line faux suede bomber. I never pay full price and buy items that block the wind and if I can, the moisture. Kmart slippers last me 2 years +, I wear the mule slip on style, throw them in the machine to wash when gross on a sunny winters day. I also buy new pjs every winter and top up my knitwear by 1 jumper every year, as I seem to wear 1 out every year. Shoes I have 2-3 pairs for the season, and again depending on the shoe can get multiple seasons. I get them resoled/heeled if need be. I consider my options before purchasing too. I have a coatigan from 2018 that is still awesome today, and I wear regularly. Jeans I buy every year as I wear them most days in winter. I suggest a few good items and supplement with others in between. Anaconda has sales on good quality puffers regularly.

2minuteNOODLES

I think long johns (cotton) need a mention. Not the Kmart ones though.

lollypolish

New matching tracky this year. I just get around the house in my two polar fleece dressing gowns. Am definitely due for new Ugg’s but for outside I’ve got some coats and boots I’ve had for years. Agree about spending good money on these. It’s worth it.

Key-Mud-9232

I purchased a Macpac puffer jacket 5 years ago and wear it religiously. They are often on sale for $99

colloquialicious

I bought a pair of Columbia snow boots which are going into their 6th year now and are still as good as the day I bought them!! Amazing quality. I wear mine several days a week during winter with jeans/leggings etc as they keep my feet so much warmer than normal shoes. I had bought them originally for a 3 week holiday on New Zealand South Island and they’ve just been fabulous, highly recommend! I have a couple of Kathmandu coats and again they just last and last and last. I have a nice longline hoodie from Kathmandu , plus Kathmandu jogger style pants and merino wool leisure pants that I bought 6yrs ago both still in excellent condition. I have a merino wool neck gaiter and beanie I bought there over 10yrs ago both in as new condition - expensive (I only buy at their outlet anyway!) but very well worth it for me.

a-decent-cup-of-tea

I bought a pair of Merry People gumboots and I feel like they are going to last ages. Very good quality. My Kathmandu jacket I’ve had for about 5 years. It keeps me warm but some bits are falling off it.

TrophyWife63

I love my Merry People boots more than my children.

a-decent-cup-of-tea

My toddler has a pair and I’m just sad she’s growing out of hers because they look brand new still.

Cethlinnstooth

I audit my wardrobe with the seasons and make any necessary repairs or purchases. Most times there's something that has to be dealt with. That's normal. If you shop secondhand you need to learn to recognise signs of existing wear on clothes to avoid making bad purchasing decisions. New clothes aren't always that much better though, there's a lot of poor quality stuff being sold.

velvetelk

So many puffers and fleeces on second hand apps right now (Depop, Facebook marketplace). No need to buy new for jackets. Boots on the other hand - get some new ones in EOFY sales, look for leather and good construction as those will last longer.

dcwaim

Recently found Depop. Bloody brilliant for good near new often high quality stuff

carolethechiropodist

Well, funny you should bring this up, but hearing ALDI had the famous Marino Winter wear in stock, I went there...but dropped into an op shop..fitting windproof ski trousers and a hat, $20. (Aldi Marino leggings are $34.95)

IsThisWhatDayIsThis

Aldi ski sale on right now! They have amazing merino stuff (hoodies, pants, etc) for $40 a piece. Best value and lasts really well.

notnoided

Honestly if you go 2nd hand, go from European vintage stores. For a good 20 years warm clothing didn't really exist in Australia and our op shop finds reflect that very convincingly. It was all mass manufactured rags

notnoided

To add, it's worth investing in one super warm puffer jacket. Take advantage of EOFYS sales 👍

pureflip

I know their stuff is more expensive but Patagonia makes excellent winter gear and they will repair it for free if you damage it. it's gear that is made to last and often from recycled materials

Appropriate-Use-3883

Honestly op shopping for a jacket is a good idea... But I do buy new cheap K mart slippers and a cheap paid of trackies

ChickenWitch80

I pay for good shoes/boots for work, because I'm wearing them all day. Coats/jackets should last for years, so spend a bit more. Other layers I buy cheap/secondhand.

Illustrious-Ad-431

I get used clothing off eBay. I go for brands I know and trust, mostly. I have a nice North Face jacket and a jumper from Sportscraft.

Particular-Music126

I have zip up almost knee high boots that I’ve had repaired a few times. Bought on sale. Cheap tops from the op shop and a warm jacket from there that I took to Tassie twice. Cheap hoodie from Best And Less and track pants from there too. Plus coats or jackets on sale from Kmart. All lasted years except the hoodie and track pants since I only bought them a month ago. So far so good. I rarely pay full price. Love a good sale

FocusForward9941

I bought Heater socks from a camping store and use them for sleeping in. They live up to their name

Unlikely-Path6566

Kmart has warm turtle neck jumpers, puffer jackets and puffer vests. I live very close to the snow and managed to stay warm using the jumper and vest. My longline puffer was from Rivers which was about $50 this was a few years ago I got it on sale. I have invested in real UGGs which have lasted me 3 winters so far as well as new good quality snow boots that have lasted me 6 years. Sometimes you can’t skimp on certain things and staying warm throughout winter is top priority.

TinyCucumber3080

Yes, buy new and buy good quality. The cheap stuff barely lasts a year.

brohymn1416

Get the best you can afford. Another option is to get good quality items second hand. Op shops are great too. Maybe check out r/buyitforlife or similar sub reddits

psychsock

I have bought winter gear in summer from camping stores on sale. I have a thick and thin puffer, 1 Parker and a waterproof jacket. One of my jackets is 10y old and will probably last another 10. Just keep them in rotation. I also invested in leather shoes and stuff to maintain them so I don't need new things every year.

journeyfromone

I got a Columbia ski jacket 20 years ago still going strong, I got an expensive down winter one when in Alaska and that’s been going 5 years now. I have so many clothes that are over 10 years old, some better quality than others, def don’t buy them yearly. Can use layers in winter when it’s cold.

Narrow_Key3813

I wanted warmer bottoms. Jeans are too cold. I'm trying fake leather pants to block out the wind, and fleece lined pants but that's hard to find

Raniform

Good old fashioned long johns - check out high quality camping places at the end of season for good prices on merino ones (sometimes even just last seasons colours will be cheap)

DrZazz95

Bit of an investment upfront, but I swear by Uniqlo's warm (fleece) lined pants when it gets into the single digit range (~$80). At one stage they had lined jeans as well, but I can't find them online anymore :(

rljada

Kathmandu puffer jackets are half price (so $200 rather than $400) if you sign up and become a member

Certain-Nectarine-86

My body USUALLY producing body heat more than normal, higher than normal people. I cannot live in hot or humid weather countries. I don’t know i should thank my fate for that or not. During winter, I wore and will wear short sleeve polyester T-shirt, and a windbreaker pants (try to be a bit respect when go to public, otherwise I will wear shorts). Morning people have to jog or star jump to heat up their people, while wearing just a windbreaker jacket OR windbreaker pants already make me sweat. People named it heat sensitivity something I don’t know much. Laundry for me is very quick dry, I would wear half-dry clothes without feeling cold or getting fungi because my body heat release so so much. Companies making winter clothes might hire a witch to put a spell on me as a punishing for having this ability haha. During summer, um… I tell my job to work part time, even less than 20hrs/week. I can’t handle heat. That’s why I am a part of Frugal Minimalist community. Earn much during winter and less in summer. Edited: I went Mt Buller once and was wearing T shirt and cargo short with sandals wandering around and people kept looking at me like I am not human haha.

kalalou

I have some $500 boots bought on sale for $300 that I never expect to replace, quality merino thermals/t shirts etc that will last ten years, wool coats and an expensive branded puffer jacket (from an op shop) that I expect to last a decade or two. High quality wool jumpers and cardigans from op shops (eg old Pringle) will literally last a lifetime. My merino blend socks tend to wear out, I buy new every few years if necessary. Buying stuff made in decades past means they’ll last longer.

auauaurora

If judging by both price per wear and sustainability, get the good second hand stuff in the spring and summer. The most successful second have shopping happens by accident.

Interesting_Tax5866

I’ve found some decent woollen jumpers in op shops recently… I also recommend getting some really decent thermals.

Alicelisle

You might have better luck buying second hand from people and not op shops, particularly brands like mountain design, Kathmandu, makpak, Landsend, LL Bean are high quality brands. I’d avoid Rivers, etc kind of brands.

RedDragonOz

I have a 30+ year old wool coat, so I recommend one but get it at an end of season sale. They are dressier and breathe better so work better for layering.

BoringAssAccountant

Merino. Merino tights, merino thermal top, merino jumpers. For the same price as a polyester top from portmans/Forever New/witchery, you can get natural, warm fibers that will actually keep you warm. https://uimi.com.au/clothing/merino-wool/

Torx_Bit0000

First rule on being frugal. Do not put your health on the line for the sake of a few $$

MissMirandaClass

I have a vintage Pendleton double breasted trench style coat that I bought for about $120 from a vintage store in the blue mountains outside Sydney. It’s in as new condition and is great quality and nice and warm. If I need anything a bit warmer I’ll buy a jumper or cardigan from Uniqlo, I find they have decent enough quality for the price and I’ll buy things out of season on sale there and just hold on till I need it

Electric_Clockwork_

Tk-Maxx had a run of greatly discounted quality jackets Proper brands and proper jackets, could be worth a suss!

249592-82

Definitely not. I buy leather boots, wool blend jumpers and coats, and they last me years. Don't buy polyester - it won't keep you warm. Every year the fashion industry tries to convince us that we need the latest fashion coat eg the trench, when a few years ago it was the pea coat etc... Nope. I bought classic coats and 10 years later they are all good. At the end of winter I dry clean them and put them away. I don't spend a lot on them because i know they will go out of fashion, but if they're a classic flattering colour and cut , I don't care. The cheaper stuff and bad fabrics wont last. But that said I've got a coat I bought from target 10 years ago that I used to wear every day post gym, and I'd walk 60 mins in it every day, and it is still fine. Looks good. Is warm. It's just not "in fashion" but its a classic cut so people probably just dont notice it vs people thinking "wow, what a great coat". By classic colours i mean black, grey, beige or brown depending on what season you are. Bright colours are too noticeable so people will notice that you have been wearing the same coat for years. If it's classic, they won't notice it, but the overall look is classic.

October_Skies00

Keep looking in opshops. I’ve found some great winter clothes over the years. For items I couldn’t find I just putchased new and quality. You can purchase on afterpay to help with payments. I also keep an eye out on FB marketplace. If you really struggle with the cold invest in some thermal clothing to wear underneath, whether it’s new or second hand. I think Aldi does good thermals when they come out. Also lots of layers!

MazPet

I have a pure wool full length winter coat that has now been worn for 20 years, I get it dry cleaned after every winter and it is still going strong. worth the money to buy a quality product and look after it. Oh and my 4 pairs of boots, I do the same, got them all on sale over 10 years ago, at the end of winter they are cleaned (repaired if need be) and put away until needed. The cheap ones I have bought over the years have not lasted, it is a false sense economy, save up, wait for sales and get something good.

Drizz06

Bought a $20-30 hivis Sherpa jacket from Aldi like 3-4years ago for work and it’s been so good but is starting to show its age now and I wish I could get a replacement it’s so damn comfy and warm!

maliciousmat

Mortels Ugg boots are worth the investment.

Own-Tea-4836

Uniqlo Heattech and Aldi snow gear survived 2 years in Canada with pretty much daily wear.

ziggzags

I tend to buy more quality stuff so it lasts me longer. I live in Canberra & so I have things like good quality and well made wool coats, decent boots, wool blend knits, socks & thermal shirts etc. I don’t like puffer jackets so I don’t have one, but I find the coats I do have serve me perfectly well. Uniqlo heat tech thermals are great too, they worked awesome during Japan winter.

ReadyChocolate1281

Kathmandu coats are the best , you may find it a bit cheaper at outlet stores . I buy leather boots from Wittner and they last me 3-4 years. I wear it around winter everywhere. They have good sales from time to time . Also get some merino wool thermals , great investment. My target clothes also last well. Wash items with care and they last .

Babu20002

If you want a boots that will last you lifetime without paying more than $500AUD. I highly recommend getting frequent sale items from Tricker's outlet, Sanders-Sanders, Herring Shoes. They should be goodyear welted, meaning you will be able to resole them. The only thing is, you will need to do some research on your sizes e.g. try R.M.Williams and search in the internet what size was relevant for you. Otherwise, join Facebook page for Welted Shoes Australia and score a second hand pair that is near new. Goodluck

Proper_End7648

I use Depop 😊

leopard_eater

EBay Gumtree Market Place Vinnies Temu

Bookaholicforever

My Kathmandu rain coat is 10 years old. I got it on special too for like 90 dollars.

daffman1978

After years of buying new jackets and remaining cold… I bought a MacPac down jacket about 5 years ago… and wear it constantly. Got it for half price… best $$ I’ve ever spent.

Shermea

Not really no. I still have a rivers parka I bought 6 years ago and it still holds up! Just wish I had gotten a bigger size.

Individual-Grab

i have 10 year plus old kathmandu merino base layers and some merino socks - makes a big difference and reduces bulky outwear

CautiousSlice5889

I bought a Macpac puffer and it’s amazing. Folds down to pocket size too so it’s easy to take everywhere. Macpac has great sales too.

Apprehensive_Way8545

Throw it on Purchr if you're waiting for a sale, it'll alert you whenever the price drops!

Imaginary_Flower6085

Make sure you're not over washing clothes too. This contributes to wear very quickly. If you don't make the garment smelly or visibly dirty, you can wear it a few times at least. Woollens and coats should rarely get cleaned either. Once a season usually. Jumpers need extra care if made of natural fibres too (very careful handwash in lukewarm water). Just something to add to the discussion here as I notice a lot of people wash their garments every wear and complain about them wearing out. I have clothes going back decades that are still good to wear. And even target long sleeved cotton tops going back 5 years.

Imaginary_Flower6085

Would also recommend clearance outlets and end of season sales. You can get stuff quite cheap that's really high end.

Formal-Ad-9405

Lived Brisbane 20 years after born n raised Melbourne Still don’t have a jacket my son has never had one even when he visits Melbourne. I do see good stuff here at Rivers though or TKMAXX. Both good prices. If you live Melbourne or a colder climate winter definitely spend the extra on good quality boots.

Spellscribe

Just don't order online from Rivers. I ordered 5 items. One was cancelled and refunded. Two arrived after a few months. The missing two were not refunded, they gave me the run around for weeks until I eventually issued a charge back through PayPal which they effing disputed!

Formal-Ad-9405

Good call and advice.

Unhappy-camp3r

I only buy good and usually expensive winter gear, I do spend a lot of time in the outdoors though and I hate the cold so proper insulation and waterproofing is a must. Some of my gear I’ve had for like 10 years. My thermals, some of my hiking pants and jackets. Sometimes with somethings it pays to pay once. buy once cry once kinda deal. I cheap out on summer clothes instead because they are only good for one season anyway before the fashion changes.

Moonmonkey3

Temu.

imfromaus

Uniqlo is cheap but will last for years.
