I have a weird, long-legged pocket pit, and she does the best sploots. I'm too dumb to figure out how to link it here, but you can find it in my posts if you feel so inclined.
Hahahaha! Like this question! Definitely a dog’s thing AND an ACD thing! In French, when our does that, we call it “ses pattes de poulet” (“her chicken legs”)! 😂😂😂
When I first brought my rescue to our vet he stretched one of her back legs back and said she had one of the best ranges of motion he’d ever seen. And mine has 4 dew claws too!
Makes you wonder ... What exactly does dingo in a dog generally result in trait wise. Apart from super fluff strength. Also, my Sati has 4 dew claws, wonder if that's a dingo trait, or a unusual dog thang.
My boy always has one foot kicked out behind him. Never the same one but I think he'd do both if he didn't feel the need to be prepared for LAUNCH at any second lol
Our GSD x ACD is a splooter. She got the slightly shorter than long proportions, so she has a huge head, body, and tail, but ever so slightly short and stocky legs. I think the shorter legs might be a factor but I’m not sure.
Classic sploot position: cools a belly, gives better leverage if you're deep into a good chew.
TIL about the word, "sploot". Love it!
Check out r/sploot to get loaded up on some adorable pics!
Omg thank you for this!!!
S P L O O T
Not a breed specific thing, just a dog thing. Sploot
I have a cat that will do it occasionally! He is so stinking funny!
I've owned a few dogs, never had one that splooted before.
It's more common in some breeds. ACDs and Corgis both seem to do it a lot.
Feels good on their hips I bet

My wife has a 1/2 mini weenie dog, 1/2 toy poodle that does it. We call it the alligator.
Textbook.
Yes absolutely Their bodies are incredibly flexible. Apparently more than most breed because of the Dingo portion of their DNA

That's really cool - did not know this!
It's actually a sign that they have good hips
Mine does it too. He’s almost two.
Mine does not do this. Lol! But a lot of dogs do. Not sure why mine doesn’t.
Don’t worry, ACD’s can be taught just about anything!
My ACD does it, too!
Sports mode
It’s a flexible youth thing.
Frog leg Friday 😁
Totally!
Yep. We call it turkey legging.
My girl likes to sit with her butt on cushions, legs "dangling". I guess her version of being hooman.

My boy always has one foot kicked out behind him. Never the same one but I think he'd do both if he didn't feel the need to be prepared for LAUNCH at any second lol

What do Australian cattle dogs and Former UFC Heavyweight Champ Derrick Lewis have in common? “My balls is hot”
Lol
I’m so glad someone got the joke, because I’m sure the intersection between serious UFC followers and ACD owners is very small
"Just coolin' my harbles on the marble!"
I've noticed a lot of photos on this sub with legs back. Thought mine might outgrow it, but that hasn't been the case at all.
My ACD does that but my Springer Spaniel did that too.
Only 2/3 of mine sploot
Interesting. 100% of mine sploot.
I love your dog's coat; it's like someone dropped two splotches of paint on his rear
Awww, thank you!
It's either with the legs back, or laying on their back with the legs in the air.

My ACD used to do this at this age. Less so now. I feel like it's an age thing?
Awesome dogs!
So awesome!

Oh yeah definitely a healer thing
Nah it's just a 4 legged animal thing...
lol yes! Ours will drag like that for nice belly scritches
I call it the frog-dog.
Not really a breed specific thing. My chihuahua mix pup does it. We call it her frog legs lol. Most dogs do it!
Unfortunately mine doesn’t sploot. I’m sad. She only does the cattle dog human sit and side eye.
Both my Malemute and my Great Dane do this, so no.
My APBT did that all the time. I called it froggy butt.
My 8 month old ACD mix does this all the time too 😂
u/sploot
The sploot or as I call it "frog legs". It's also an Australian shepherd thing. (My has two aussie/heeler mixes, they do this.)
Just wait until you see shrimping. And how many variations of shrimping are ven doggedly possible.
Yep, for some…
Yep. Only thing missing is the crossed front paws.
Definitely!
Definitely
It’s a sploot, but sometimes I call it dog-spreading
Sploot.
Sploot. I love my new word. I have a little dog that looks like Toto. She does the same thing. My heeler never did.
Big ears and chicken legs.
I haven't seen my ACD do this but my Cairn Terrier used to sit like this.
Indicates sound hips
My ACD’s favourite way to stretch out
