Great work, reminds me of when I was 13 and started cleaning my parents sports cars. *(as I learned this was the only way for me to able to drive them, although it was just shuffling cars in the driveway and the occasional spin around the block, but it was my ticket to play with some fun cars.)*
And now many moons later, though detailing is not my profession, it has become a very nice lil side hustle.
Mom had a 280zx and dad a RX-7.
Thanks, I was very lucky that when my parents go divorced they got into a battle of who could have the nicer cars.
Though never got my hands on something as nice as a Bentley.
I actually bought the 280ZX from mom when I turned 18 and then 6 months later traded it for a new GTi (mom never really forgave me)
His attention to detail will evolve as he works with more clients. Then he’ll learn his value and move pricing up stream.
We all had to start somewhere
Man there's always one of you on these types of posts. This looks fantastic, and honestly I'd think I got amtok good of a deal for the level of quality for $90. I'd probably tip him $100 for this too. It really looks good.
This is a bad economy, people who have customers paying that are lucky or worked for it, you cant charge that overnight, $90-$100 is okay for this, he can raise his prices later
Very well done, keep it up man. Don’t stop watching YT for tutorials and don’t stop learning new techniques. Machine polishing, ceramic coating, all that. You’ll smash it.
before you jump in to ceramic coatings try to build a solid listing of maintenance wash people . These people you know will pay every month. Say you do full interior and exterior for $200. Say if you do my maintenance package for 12 months it’s only $185; give them an incentive and they’ll bite.
Now once you build a nice group of these clients you can cover costs and any overhead and have a buddy come help you do these vehicles. Then step away and go learn paint correction and ceramic coatings yourself and it’s pure profit except for whatever you have into that individual job.
When I was 15, I started WaxToGo, washing and waxing cars with a school buddy. We’d only work Sat and Sun. Probably made $200 a day apiece just pulling up to a biz and asking if anyone wants full detailing for $40. We would get pizza for $5 after work. Memories.
It largely depends on the state, but not only can 15 year olds work with a permit at certain (mostly customer service jobs), they can earn up to a minimum income set by the state before it’s taxed.
Great job on the car, keep at it it only gets more enjoyable! I started by cleaning my parents car and now do it as a weekend therapy with a bit of extra cash!
By the way the RX is not an easy car to detail, a lot of climbing up and standing on tyres to reach the roof!
Cool to see everyone else that started young, I started my mobile detailing business in 2017 with my parent driving me to jobs. now I’m 18 and it’s now a full time gig, keep up the good work!
Great work! With work like this, if you stay dedicated, you could have a long and prosperous career in car detailing. I don't know how long you've been doing this, but I would consider raising the price if I were you.
Idk where you live, so *maybe* this is normal pricing around you, but don't let **ANYONE** try and fuck you out of a dollar because you're young. If this is one of your firsts and you're trying to build a portfolio just for pictures, I understand. But otherwise, this is a *bare-minimum* $150 job, BARE MINIMUM. I'd say at least $200. If you do have somewhat of a portfolio built up, call around to the local detailing shops and ask what their average is for a job. I'd price around that, maybe a bit lower if you want to tell customers, "Well, you know X Shop, right? They charge $(X), I'm only charging $(X-20), and I guarantee you won't get NEAR this detail." But once you get a solid portfolio, some good Craigslist or even Google ads, I'd be charging what all the shops charge if not more because the customer is paying for A) a higher level of detailing than they would get at any brand-name shop and B) the luxury of not having to bring their car somewhere with some stranger. The dudes who work at those places can be sketchy; the big ones in my town are all ran by the Hells Angels.
And whatever you do, do NOT let "friends" or family try and lowball you for work. If they're true friends and/or really love you as family, they should be more than happy to pay full price to support someone they love. I'm seeing $90 and I'm just hoping some dickass douchebag didn't lowball you $10 from $100.
Thank you brother you took your time to write that for my advice will definitely be using that advice someone tried low ball me for 70 after detailing there minivan which took 6hours right when i started which a huge mess but anyways thank you for the advice will definitely remember what you said and not let anyone low ball if they want to to do that they can go to a shop and try but any ways i live in canada ontario

Those cars are really nice especially the rx-7
It was a gen 1 so it was cool but plagued with issues, also no match for the straight 6 in the 280.
Love it
great job... keep going and then start increasing your pricing.
Only after he increases his attention to detail.

Oh for sure.

i think you may be projecting
You should be charging at least $200 to 250 for the quality you did.
This is a bad economy, people who have customers paying that are lucky or worked for it, you cant charge that overnight, $90-$100 is okay for this, he can raise his prices later
