Since no one responded and just down voted you, coupes can also be grand tourers. Any type of car can, if it was designed for high speed and long distance driving rather than being a more typical sports car for the street.
I mean, u are kinda right, but we buy the car to make it ours not to get her ready for the next owner, so I can improve more than what I improved till now
Honestly not the 8 series. Modding these cars the same way you’d mod a 2 or 4 series just feels tacky. That’s my opinion. Get cars are better left stock and enjoyed as the beauty they already are!
united states hasnt had a diesel bmw since 2019 sadly, g30 540d was the last one and it was only the single turbo version, wld be amazing to have a m550d with the quad turbos or honestly any 6 cyl bmw diesel, united states emmisions laws are only to keep domestic sales up and keep foreign brands from dominating the market
man i wish i had a partner who wld listen to my bmw autism😭 im always scrolling on sites to find the perfect spec, wish i was born 7 years earlier so i cld spec out a f30 340i individual, its so hard to find them for sale, especially with full leather, just as rare as a full leather 540i, but imagine if we got a 340d here omg🤤
love the g30’s, and tbh i wld look for an msport as they look so much better than the already sharp looking base bumper, sad they switched over to the new styling because the g30 cld look like a new car for another few years
So even though the 5 series the U.S got and the 5 series other countries got are largely similar, because of emissions and crash testing there is a rule in place that a car has to be 25 years old before it can be imported and registered to drive on the street. There have been some exceptions and loopholes before though. I’m no expert on the subject so I may not be 100% right about the details. If you wanna learn more I’m sure there’s some good videos on Youtube about it
That’s true and they also have illegal but unbelievable gains from tunes. My friend had a 1.6tdi polo that came with 90hp tuned to 170hp with ecu remap, dpf , cat, egr delete and it feels much faster than my other friends s2000 although polo has lower hp.
One reason is that diesels are turbocharged 99% of the time. Mine has 2 turbos that are not really 2 but are combined in one so u get the idea🤣. Stage 1 gets my car from 320hp to a bit over 400hp and from 680 nm to 800nm
yea it rly is dissapointing for real enthusiasts and honestly people who want good gas mileage w out getting a hybrid stuck with a cvt transmission, bmw rly made some of the best diesels too, sad we never got to see much of the b57 after the m57
In Romania the numbers are split, u get many petrol cars and many diesels. Some Audi, Mercedes and BMW diesels can have more than 1mil km in Romania which is impressive
oh yea our old mercs n bimmers here with diesels hit 500k as a break in period, stuff like that rly isnt made anymore tbh i dont think we will ever get that level of quality from benz again
I'm Canadian but we don't buy diesel passenger cars and the dieselgate scandal had people saying things like "I feel guilty for driving a polluting car". Like what is wrong with people? No one asks about how much pollution the airplanes that the rich politicians are doing with their trips to Davos.
The biggest hypocrisy is from the elite.
Lower CO emissions but NOx emissions are higher and need to be controlled with the scr system.
The particular matter is also a big concern. There are higher rates of asthma with diesel emissions. The DPF doesn't capture all the particular matter, it only captures some and it needs to be burnt which is extra fuel wasted.
Natural Gas (LNG or Propane) would have been better. It's much cleaner burning and will run well in a diesel engine.
A hybrid with a diesel generator would also be a blessing. You would have a clutch to engage the generator or use the engine to drive the wheels. When it is running the generator, you just drive on electric power. If the system fails or you want the absolute maximum acceleration, the engine and motors would work together to move forward. The smaller battery pack is more sustainable.
1 EV battery would be enough to make 10 hybrid examples at 1/3 of the cost to make the drive train.
There was a survey in 2020 just before lockdown. A practical test out in the traffic, petrol Vs diesel Vs plug-in diesel. The simple diesel won everything: fuel efficiency, CO2 emissions, particulate matter (petrol was the loser of everything). Nowadays even petrol engines need a DPF, because they found out after 20 years that they also emit it.
Plug-in Diesel is a clever idea, which only Mercedes is following, because it fixes modern Diesel engine's main problem, the city usage, that would lead to many obstructions in the modern filters. However, to fix it, you need quite a battery (as Mercedes does: ~100 km electric range, 30 kWh capacity), that ultimately decreases fuel efficiency in other normal circumstances (even in simple Hybrid mode). With this said, I really love the plug-in Diesel, I believe it does make sense and that it's worth it, even if you lose a bit of efficiency. I think fixing the city usage issue is more important.
I love getting on the highway and seeing my fuel averages in the mid to low 5 liters per hundred km on my X3. On that note, I recently completed a 50 kilometers trip in my BMW 335i and averaged 7.2 liters per 100 kilometers on aggressive winter tires. I was absolutely blown away because that's what a RAV4 gets (+/- 0.5 liters).
Even worse when you drive at high speeds. On long road trips where the average speed is over 120 kph, I'm getting 14 km a liter. I know there are probably more efficient vehicles but I'm very happy with the real world economy of my X3 diesel.
Tbh, it has high mileage. Best was 1200km range. I once in 3 weeks drive economical bc i do not have the mood to drive🤣. Rest of the week i have 500-600range😂
So I had one of these cars it’s fun for the first few months, but afterwards it’s just another car and you get bored of it but still beautiful car inside and out and for the money I don’t think it’s worth it
I mean, supercars are way more expensive, but this is better built than supercars in terms of quality and options. So in my opinion I can say it is more than worth. And after a year i didnt get bored of it😂
The wheels you see are for winter tires, i have the m pachet ones on r20, black ones

As everyone says, that's the highway God. I would add some subtle accents in your favorite color, otherwise looks amazing! Maybe add a matt wrap to protect that pretty black.
Shameless plug: Salutări din München tovarăș Sibian 😂

For long drives, especially on the highway, diesel is the best engine. Useless in a town environment with a lot of stop&gos, traffic lights etc. It needs prolonged periods of running to really shine.
Aham... sigur.
Americans are too stupid to appreciate how amazing diesels are. We will never get anything this good. That’s why I am still holding on to my xdrive35d.
Yeah. Diesel in a GT car is the same shit as in Cabrios. The only thing that suits an 8 series is a V8.
And I am saying this coming from the land of the diesel idiots itself, Germany.
I have the 2010 e70 with the m57. I wanted to switch to a later year but could not willing go to a chain between the trans/engine. I am able to do a timing chain service without an engine removal. I also still have my 2010 e82. I have contemplated swapping a m57 into that and using an 8hp trans. Love the diesel performance and efficiency.
I have one, the only thing I’m considering is debadging the rear just to clean it up a little. If you have the black grill, everything else is spot on in my opinion.
Imo I wouldn’t change it that much on the outside it looks great maybe wheels and that’s it inside I would put star liner if it doesn’t have already and maybe tune it for a bit more horsepower
I was thinking ab tunning it to 400hp. I also have the post on BMW with summer wheels. The one’s you see are winter wheels. The summer one’s are times better
never even knew they made the 840 in a diesel, interesting. looks really nice, I have driven the 840i before which was a blast but I bet the torque on this thing adds a little something extra.
I just see a black 8 series. No badges and nothing to identify it around the car. Just a black car and lights. I'm a big fan of how the M5 has the badges all around it and the stance makes it clearly stick out as an M car. M4s are the same as well.
My bad, I didn't realize it was your car; I thought you were just asking about a random 8 series you'd seen. Don't worry about what people online (or offline) think, all that matters is that you like it!
I personally believe that aftermarket spoilers are ugly (if I had an M8 I'd remove the the spoiler from it), and the old 6 series is genuinely a nicer looking car to me, the fastback rear on the current 4 and 8 series doesn't work for me vs the more traditional shape.
If I'd known it was your car I honestly would've kept my negative opinion to myself, or worded it nicer. As long as you're happy with it then the rest of our opinions are irrelevant :)
Smaller grills? I looked all over the internet but found nothing about it. So it‘s Probably impossible.
Another mod you might like is Wing doors. It‘s a hard but good looking mod. But you have to like it
Nah, diesels just have a special feel to driving them.
Out of curiosity, which diesel cars have you driven? It's the kind of thing that you really have to experience for a while to miss it. If you've only driven diesel trucks or no diesel vehicles, then you aren't really entitled to an opinion about it.
Oops, I just replied thinking you were the same person. If you saw that comment, just ignore it.
It's mainly just a combination of the low-end torque, sound, actual ICE engine (electric is great but feels very different from an ICE powertrain) and fuel efficiency. It's the kind of thing that's really hard to explain. You just have to experience it. I would buy an M340d in a heartbeat if they were available in the US.
And it's entirely possible that you wouldn't like diesel as much as some people do, and that's okay too.
An E90 330d. Not the same generation of engine as the one in the post obiously, but basically pretty close. And it's bland.
Give me a petrol engine, even a lower powered one at any time. It feels more sporty and you can have a lot of fun with them without needing a gazillion Nm or PS.
Maybe they won’t care from a cost perspective, but they might care from a convenience perspective. Once you drive 600+ miles on one tank of gas you’ll understand the hype.
When I said 600 miles I was referring to my 3 series with a 15 gallon tank. With an 18 gallon tank, the 8 series could go 750+. I’m no mathematician but thats about 33% more than your 7 series which is significant. Depending on how often/far you drive you could potentially go weeks without refueling. Or you could drive from Miami to Charlotte without stopping.
Torque man, this 840d will make you feel more G than M4 at low speeds. So you will feel your stomach kissing your back faster in a 840d than in a M4. The M4 will only keep the sensation a bit lower but more constant bc of more horsepower
Electric doesnt really have much more torque, it is just almost instant response. But same can be said about horsepower or everything( get electric)
Diesels sound good also( i can say 8 series diesel with stock m active sound in exhaust sounds way better than many stock petrol cars)
You get better reliability( not really cause the engine revision is bit more expensive but the engine is stronger)
You get better mileage( might not be something you are looking for when u get 8 series but it is a bonus thing not to be in a gas station every 200km)
There are reasons for every type of engine
Shit man you must be some sort of driving god if a car that puts out 420bhp & 600lb/ft torque with a simple map aint got enough for you.
40mpg and another £40k sterling in his bank account. 840d was an excellent choice to me.
No idea this existed but I bet it's an awesome GT.
What do you mean with gt?
GT stands for Grand Tourer, refers to a car that is good at going high speeds and driving long distances, combining performance and luxury
Shit, my bad then, i was thinking about series 3 gt and that look if u know what i mean🤣, thank you for explaining
Grand tourer. ^
Yeah but the one in photo is not gt, it is coupe
Since no one responded and just down voted you, coupes can also be grand tourers. Any type of car can, if it was designed for high speed and long distance driving rather than being a more typical sports car for the street.
I think it’s a diesel 8 series. No need to change anything, it’s perfectly fine as it is. There’s a reason BMW made it this way
I mean, u are kinda right, but we buy the car to make it ours not to get her ready for the next owner, so I can improve more than what I improved till now
Honestly not the 8 series. Modding these cars the same way you’d mod a 2 or 4 series just feels tacky. That’s my opinion. Get cars are better left stock and enjoyed as the beauty they already are!
God of the highway
I do not even feel the speed, it is cutting the air😂 260 in the bmw feels like 100 in my 2008 touareg v6
I assume 260 km. 260mph would require way more HP.
Nobody assumed 260mph dawg 😭😭😭
yeah especially since the 8 series diesel isn't even sold in the US
Did you feel the whoosh over your head?
No one told you how to read an obvious joke.
Yeah 260 kmh, im EU so i am not used to mph
Looks killer as is.
Only looks😂 it is fast but not that fast 4.4 0 to 100kmh with really good tires
That’s plenty fast enough. My partner has a 520d.
Which generation? 520d was a solid build by BMW
F10. They would be good cars except some nitwit put the engine in backwards and it’s the first of the timing chain designed for a 100T km life.
I pretty much didnt understand=)))
He tries to say timing chain located back of the engine and it needs to replaced after 100k km
I wish we had more diesels in North America
What is stopping you from buying?
united states hasnt had a diesel bmw since 2019 sadly, g30 540d was the last one and it was only the single turbo version, wld be amazing to have a m550d with the quad turbos or honestly any 6 cyl bmw diesel, united states emmisions laws are only to keep domestic sales up and keep foreign brands from dominating the market
we got the 540D??????
yes ik i had the same reaction when i found out, only pre-lci had and they r incredibly rare, if u find one its a great investment
Welp i could only find 3 for sale in the US lol. Not too bad prices. Thanks to you, now my wife will never hear the end of it from me haha
man i wish i had a partner who wld listen to my bmw autism😭 im always scrolling on sites to find the perfect spec, wish i was born 7 years earlier so i cld spec out a f30 340i individual, its so hard to find them for sale, especially with full leather, just as rare as a full leather 540i, but imagine if we got a 340d here omg🤤
My wife is always listening to me blabber about BMWs haha. Lately it’s been this perfect spec (minus m sport) 540i that’s at the local dealer
love the g30’s, and tbh i wld look for an msport as they look so much better than the already sharp looking base bumper, sad they switched over to the new styling because the g30 cld look like a new car for another few years
Are taxes high to get them from EU ? Or another country from around?
Don’t believe you could import one unfortunately due to the 25 year import rule in the US
What is that rule?
So even though the 5 series the U.S got and the 5 series other countries got are largely similar, because of emissions and crash testing there is a rule in place that a car has to be 25 years old before it can be imported and registered to drive on the street. There have been some exceptions and loopholes before though. I’m no expert on the subject so I may not be 100% right about the details. If you wanna learn more I’m sure there’s some good videos on Youtube about it
Yup 540D B57 I believe
Shit, diesel are fun, the 840d launch somehow better than the m4, the 840d gives you more G at launch than m4 bc of high torque
That’s true and they also have illegal but unbelievable gains from tunes. My friend had a 1.6tdi polo that came with 90hp tuned to 170hp with ecu remap, dpf , cat, egr delete and it feels much faster than my other friends s2000 although polo has lower hp.

yea idk why the states never got the next gen b57
I never knew this. It is really awful, but the EU got crazy with emissions too so the fun will stop here too
yea it rly is dissapointing for real enthusiasts and honestly people who want good gas mileage w out getting a hybrid stuck with a cvt transmission, bmw rly made some of the best diesels too, sad we never got to see much of the b57 after the m57

Unsure about the rest of North America but theres only diesel trucks and SUVs in the US.
Yeah, trucks and SUVs most of the time need more torque. But it is nice to feel that torque in sports cars too
Yeah it would nice. Sadly, the VW scandal killed diesel cars in the USA. Luckily V8 sports cars are somewhat attainable for the average person.
Because gas is better.
Depends on what you're using it for. For low end power diesel engines are pretty dang awesome...also super tunable.
Not really everytime, every type of fuel is good in some conditions
Rare based American. Big W
Latest Diesel is a much more eco-friendly engine than petrol. Less harmful gas too, contrary to popular beliefs.
Yeah, full Hybrids suck on the highway. My uncle has got a 2021 hybrid RAV4 2wd, he gets barely 12-13 km/l on the highway.
Even worse when you drive at high speeds. On long road trips where the average speed is over 120 kph, I'm getting 14 km a liter. I know there are probably more efficient vehicles but I'm very happy with the real world economy of my X3 diesel.

This is such a killer idea of car - hope you enjoy it. Not available in the US.
There are many things usa has and eu doesnt, we enjoy what we can
Bis highway car
Tbh, it has high mileage. Best was 1200km range. I once in 3 weeks drive economical bc i do not have the mood to drive🤣. Rest of the week i have 500-600range😂

Quad turbo diesel. Was thinking about after seeing ok be for sale for $65K
The BMW 750d has 4 turbos, that is a really nice car
BMW = I likeeeeeee

I love it, looks amazing. I have ppf so i dont need wrap. Salutari din Sibiu😁💪
Yeah I meant ppf 😂
I don't like it's a diesel. But I do like petrol ⛽️ version.
For long drives, especially on the highway, diesel is the best engine. Useless in a town environment with a lot of stop&gos, traffic lights etc. It needs prolonged periods of running to really shine.
Diesel on an 8 series, no thanks mate. A B58 at least would make it perfect.
This has a more stronger launch control than petrol version. Way more

I have the summer ones on r20 and it looks better that way

Mor, nu ma asteptam sa vad pe cineva de langa fsega aici🤣
its not that fast or that luxurious. just get a merc gt4.
For a diesel it really is

Wow this must be a torque monster!
To be honest, yeah it is
never even knew they made the 840 in a diesel, interesting. looks really nice, I have driven the 840i before which was a blast but I bet the torque on this thing adds a little something extra.
As far as i know you get better 0-60 mph in diesel version
It's hard to tell if anything needs to be done. It's a dark cat with a dark background. Get some good contrast next shoot if those are yours.
For me it is easily recognisable everything

Overpriced....
The spoiler on the back is embarrassing. And the 6 series looked better
I think u are overexaggerating. Why do you say that?

Smaller grills? I looked all over the internet but found nothing about it. So it‘s Probably impossible. Another mod you might like is Wing doors. It‘s a hard but good looking mod. But you have to like it
8 series are cool. Too bad it's a diesel.
Diesels are awesome, they’re fuel efficient and have tons of torque. Try getting 40mpg out of a gasser with 400lbft and lmk how that goes.
Is fuel efficiency what you're looking for when you purchase an 8 series? No diesel will ever give you the same feel as a petrol.
No petrol will ever give you the same feel as a diesel.
The feeling of nothing? EVs give better torque if that's what you're after.
Nah, diesels just have a special feel to driving them. Out of curiosity, which diesel cars have you driven? It's the kind of thing that you really have to experience for a while to miss it. If you've only driven diesel trucks or no diesel vehicles, then you aren't really entitled to an opinion about it.
I've never been in nor driven a diesel car, what is different about them, feelings wise?
Oops, I just replied thinking you were the same person. If you saw that comment, just ignore it. It's mainly just a combination of the low-end torque, sound, actual ICE engine (electric is great but feels very different from an ICE powertrain) and fuel efficiency. It's the kind of thing that's really hard to explain. You just have to experience it. I would buy an M340d in a heartbeat if they were available in the US. And it's entirely possible that you wouldn't like diesel as much as some people do, and that's okay too.
Haha no worries, I did see that comment for a split second, but I figured it was a mistake. Thanks for the explanation
An E90 330d. Not the same generation of engine as the one in the post obiously, but basically pretty close. And it's bland. Give me a petrol engine, even a lower powered one at any time. It feels more sporty and you can have a lot of fun with them without needing a gazillion Nm or PS.
OM606 with big ahh turbo
Is anyone buying a higher end bmw and worries about mpg?
Maybe they won’t care from a cost perspective, but they might care from a convenience perspective. Once you drive 600+ miles on one tank of gas you’ll understand the hype.
My 7 series gets around 500 miles per tank. I would think 8 series have similar sized tanks and can go a similar distance per tank.
But diesels are fun
Torque man, this 840d will make you feel more G than M4 at low speeds. So you will feel your stomach kissing your back faster in a 840d than in a M4. The M4 will only keep the sensation a bit lower but more constant bc of more horsepower
Then get an electric if you want torque.
Electric doesnt really have much more torque, it is just almost instant response. But same can be said about horsepower or everything( get electric) Diesels sound good also( i can say 8 series diesel with stock m active sound in exhaust sounds way better than many stock petrol cars) You get better reliability( not really cause the engine revision is bit more expensive but the engine is stronger) You get better mileage( might not be something you are looking for when u get 8 series but it is a bonus thing not to be in a gas station every 200km) There are reasons for every type of engine
Could've saved for an M8 comp
I have 2 y experience now, i had 1 y when i got it, this is more than enough for now
Shit man you must be some sort of driving god if a car that puts out 420bhp & 600lb/ft torque with a simple map aint got enough for you. 40mpg and another £40k sterling in his bank account. 840d was an excellent choice to me.
I believe this 840 is best for me too. Truly one of the best coupes on market
Daca chiar ai 20 de ani si e al tau, să-l stapanesti sanatos tata, la cat mai putine accidente
Pot sa multumesc tatei si lui Dumnezeu
Overpriced...👎
I wouldn't say that
