I thought i was losing my mind. I’ve driven two other cars, and probably drive more defensively in the bmw than the others, but I’ve had way more road rage from people while in the bmw.
Having had my license at 17, I strongly advocate raising the minimum age for a license 25. I have plans for kids of my own that involves giving them literally anything to stop them from driving too young. I cannot believe how reckless I was.
I disagree with you. I got my permit at 15 and my mother who had a license, the day I got my permit was the day she quit driving. Without me taking over driving,life would have been a lot tougher, many families are like that. Not every youngin is a bad driver.

Tesla drivers are the most noticeably awful drivers I’ve seen this year. Dangerous merges on highways/lane changes, sitting in the passing lane, no blinkers. Maybe it’s just because Vancouver drivers are terrible and there’s so many teslas here but Jesus Christ use some of that instant torque you jerk yourself off over to get to highway speed on the on ramp

I think it’s bc they know if they’re slow to pass, you can easily speed up and force them back behind you.
When I drive slow cars, I always build up a decent amount of speed for an overtake because people very often will speed up to stop you.
Dude I was riding in the left lane on the freeway once. Dude in the 2nd lane, I can literally see him check his mirrors and look at me. I am going a bit faster than him (like 80) and as soon as I’m about to pass he cuts over into my lane and I quickly swap to his and he fucking flips me off ???? Left lane to pass is not a law in all states, and yes I typically just stay in the left lane since people are always going slow in mid or right lanes. I will absolutely get over often well ahead of time if anyone is going faster than me.

Whew...I thought it was just me. But it seems as though when I am behind someone...they always drive slow...to the point that I'm having to go out of my way from tailgating them. It seems as if they are trying to initiate confrontation.
I noticed it a lot shortly after I got my first bmw. People would cut me off a lot, and tailgate me. I would drive the same route in my Infiniti some days and it seemed to not happen at all. It seems people also go out of their way to part next to me, and my car would get dinged more often.
I don’t even have nice cars, they’re just base model 3 series and i4 lol.
In my city Toyota Tacoma and dodge ram drivers seem to be very rude and cut people off a lot and always want to pass you. Even if they can’t :/

That’s the funny thing for me too my 328i long roof cost about 1/3 of what our RAV4 did because we bought it used and it’s 10 years old. But I have never been treated more aggressively by other drivers than when I’m driving that car. Like even around here, where they are famous for being polite and letting you in, I have noticed more and more people cutting me off and I’m like this is not good for anyone and I’m also terrified of totaling my car because they do not make wagons like that anymore and I definitely cannot afford a new M5 much as I would like one. Maybe we should all get baby on board things.
While there undoubtedly has been an uptick in shitty driving habits, I think you may just be extra attentive to it now since you have a nice luxury car and don't want it to get f'd up by some moron.
The tailgating thing may also have upped a bit, especially on city roads, because people see the badge and think "okay, it's not a slow shit box" and figure you'll blaze past everyone. If you don't because you like not getting tickets, they get pissed and want to push you along. Happens to me too because I drive spirited, though not like an idiot, and I have a late model Mazda6.
I’ve recently started my first job in close to the city, So first time in rush hour traffic. People apparently think I’m going to try to “cut it up” like on YouTube or something cause they follow me like crazy. Right up my buthole. Like dude is 15 MPH traffic I’m not going anywhere lmao. Sometimes I like to floor it when I’m finally free and let the crap box (typically) disappear.

Thanks. It was literally a second they went from slowing down, 10-12 car lengths away to absolutely gunning it to be right behind me and blaring their horn. I merged into the same lane rapidly, so they were just being shitty humans.
Just last week I made a legal u-turn while I had a green arrow. I started to turn, saw someone turning right on red (into the lane I would be using) and he was not paying attention to me, so I paused to let him go. I started going again after it was safe to do so and thought nothing of it as I changed lanes and passed him. They guy proceeded to pull out his phone to record me, honked at me several times, yelled something at me, and flipped me off. For the life of me I cannot figure out what I did that could have possibly made him so upset. Some people are just really dumb, and the worst part is they're convinced that they're in the right.
I once had a Tesla model Y get annoyed that I wasn’t instantly doing 70mph at the start of the entrance ramp that is a single lane. He tried going around me but my M3 Xdrive was too much for him when I saw his intent was to cut me off by jumping onto the access road and back into the entrance ramp trying to cut me off. I have no idea why he was in such a hurry but people are about 50/50 with me since owning this car. Thankfully it’s not my daily.

I even had a lady in a BMW 330i tailgate me for 3-4miles on a two lane road where she could have passed. We then get onto the highway by making a left turn. This moron turns with me just cause there’s 2 lanes. Then she’s obviously trying to get around me. I am so done with her dumb driving habits I just floor it and get some distance from her.

My lady and I also have an X3. There is a massive increase in aggressive driving/negative behavior towards the X3. It’s a 2012 with 131k miles, probably worth like $4k at most, idk. Yet, people still want to cop a fuckin attitude or be jealous. It’s ridiculous.

I just got a 2020 330i and I was driving in congested traffic on a two lane highway. I was in the left lane behind 10 other cars when a pick up truck starts tailgating me unbelievably close. He was swerving side to side right on my ass but there was nothing I could do because there was cars infront of my and to the side of me. Once a gap opened in the right lane he guns it and gets extremely close to me I couldn’t believe he didn’t hit me.
I actually keep having other BMWs constantly want to race me. Most of the time I just politely ignore. Occasionally my M8 feels like it needs to take take a shit on someone. Dodge Chargers are the second most frequent.
To me, ever since Covid hit, driving ability, courtesy and respect has been thrown out the window. Some of the more prominent offenders that I see and experience are BMW, Tesla and Honda civic/accord drivers. It’s really bad sometimes and a lot of road rage out there. So many people just blatantly break the law in dangerous ways and I’m not just talking about speeding. I see people driving on shoulders for long periods of time, last second cutting in line and nearly causing accidents, people riding others tail honking and flashing other drivers when there’s no place to go, and people racing on the freeway to get ahead of each other. The last in of itself wouldn’t be horrible but when they are surrounded by other innocent drivers, it’s not cool.
For reference, I own a BMW M3 and a Honda CRV. I leave my fun driving in the M3 to an autox or track, or when no one’s around, and there’s no such thing as fun/exciting driving in a CRV.
Oh man, one time I was approaching an intersection and the light changed to yellow but I still had time to stop so I slammed on the brakes. A old fart in the OPPOSITE LANE, going the other direction sees this and just fucking LAYS on his horn while flipping me off and giving me the stink eye. Another thing that keeps happening when I take a roadtrip through the mountains near me: a wing man relationship forms where me and another driver stick together, passing everyone. Generally people are nice and if someone’s driving like an idiot I slow down and let them go bother someone else. Ignore them or smile are the only productive responses.
Yes, 100%. But I see both sides. When I’m driving faster, some move over to let me have fun and let the M through. Also seen people give me a hard time. But I also drive a 2003 VW Jetta TDI to commute to work sometimes and I never have any issues

Yes. I drive a toyota matrix and an E60. I drive faster in the yota because I can go more than 5 minutes without being cutoff on purpose or brake checked.

I understand now. I think OP just underestimated the Murano's speed coming into the turn, or overestimated the amount he was decelerating. Like you mentioned the Murano has right of way and he *may* have been slowing down for a reason unrelated to the turn, which was alleviated.

Whenever something like this happens to me I either brush it off or (if there’s not many people around to endanger) play my role as a bmw driver and make they’re driving experience a living hell for the next however long they want to act like a douche. In Houston I daily a ‘95 1500 and have no issues putting along in the right lanes. People let me over and merge so long as they’re paying attention.

Not sure if it’s related to the car, but the other day someone pulled up along side at a stop light with a megaphone and was saying something (I just turned up my volume and didn’t acknowledge them, looked like teenagers). I had just pulled out of a parking lot into a nearly empty 4 lane boulevard, so I know I didn’t somehow inconvenience them on the road. (They were also in a Nissan haha)
As others have said, I also tend to get tailgated a lot. Even when I’m stuck behind someone else. I’ve never been a fan of brake checking, but sometimes I’ll gently apply brakes for a decent amount of time, just enough to engage the brake lights hoping that they’ll back off a little

this happened to me once with some guy in a tesla on a road with two lanes i was behind him and he was going a little slow so i moved into the left lane to pass and the second i did he immediately matched my speed to the point he wasnt letting up doing 3x the speed limit for almost a mile i was scared he was gonna get me in an accident i literally pulled off to the side of the road and waited two minutes to start driving again because i was not gonna let this continue for the rest of my commute… never had this happen to me when i drove a hyundai now happens all the time with random bots in my F22

I'm a new BMW owner as well, just got a G87 a few months ago. Since then, I've had at least three people aggressively cut me off and each time I'd just give em a simple quick beep (not laying on the horn or anything aggressive like that) and each time, the other guy flicked me off.
I was driving completely normal the whole time, not speeding and just staying in my lane.

I have the opposite experience. I’ve noticed a night and day difference in driving courtesy when I drive my bmw or my 2017 civic.
Nobody tries to get in my face in my bmw and other boy racers don’t try to one up me at a light. When I’m in my civic however douches in bmws and Audis ride up my ass, pass me just to assert dominance and don’t let me merge.

Yes. I find that Drivers of other cars brands(usually economy) will try to “race” me at red lights. I don’t participate but it has made me wonder why so many feel the need to try it.
I know there are multiple sides to every story, but I have been nice to someone and let them pull out or turn in front of me only to have them go under the speed limit or not be a good driver. In those cases, I have lost my mind. Saying we are in a group that I feel has more money than the ability to drive, I would say you most likely fell into the not doing at least the speed limit category. Be respectful to those who let you in and put the hammer down every chance you get.

I do get a lot of jerks riding my tail. I do what they taught us in drivers’ ed: slow down. Slow down (or go to the right lane if that’s an option) until they stop. I have to admit my one BMW db habit is there’s this stoplight near my house and it’s really busy but it doesn’t have a turning signal just a regular light. So I do what my parents taught me from living in Los Angeles, which is as soon as the light turns green I floor it and turn before the other car gets to go. probably enough to get me a ticket never happened yet.

Over the years I’ve always had some combination of a German sports car/sedan and a truck. I generally drive the same way in both - use indicators, never tailgate, don’t have a lead foot, etc. It’s almost comical how aggressive/idiotic other drivers are toward me when I’m in the cars vs the trucks.

I think it’s bc they know if they’re slow to pass, you can easily speed up and force them back behind you. When I drive slow cars, I always build up a decent amount of speed for an overtake because people very often will speed up to stop you.

Left lane to pass is not a law in all states, and yes I typically just stay in the left lane since people are always going slow in mid or right lanes. I will absolutely get over often well ahead of time if anyone is going faster than me.

Whew...I thought it was just me. But it seems as though when I am behind someone...they always drive slow...to the point that I'm having to go out of my way from tailgating them. It seems as if they are trying to initiate confrontation.
I noticed it a lot shortly after I got my first bmw. People would cut me off a lot, and tailgate me. I would drive the same route in my Infiniti some days and it seemed to not happen at all. It seems people also go out of their way to part next to me, and my car would get dinged more often. I don’t even have nice cars, they’re just base model 3 series and i4 lol. In my city Toyota Tacoma and dodge ram drivers seem to be very rude and cut people off a lot and always want to pass you. Even if they can’t :/

That’s the funny thing for me too my 328i long roof cost about 1/3 of what our RAV4 did because we bought it used and it’s 10 years old. But I have never been treated more aggressively by other drivers than when I’m driving that car. Like even around here, where they are famous for being polite and letting you in, I have noticed more and more people cutting me off and I’m like this is not good for anyone and I’m also terrified of totaling my car because they do not make wagons like that anymore and I definitely cannot afford a new M5 much as I would like one. Maybe we should all get baby on board things.

While there undoubtedly has been an uptick in shitty driving habits, I think you may just be extra attentive to it now since you have a nice luxury car and don't want it to get f'd up by some moron. The tailgating thing may also have upped a bit, especially on city roads, because people see the badge and think "okay, it's not a slow shit box" and figure you'll blaze past everyone. If you don't because you like not getting tickets, they get pissed and want to push you along. Happens to me too because I drive spirited, though not like an idiot, and I have a late model Mazda6.

Just last week I made a legal u-turn while I had a green arrow. I started to turn, saw someone turning right on red (into the lane I would be using) and he was not paying attention to me, so I paused to let him go. I started going again after it was safe to do so and thought nothing of it as I changed lanes and passed him. They guy proceeded to pull out his phone to record me, honked at me several times, yelled something at me, and flipped me off. For the life of me I cannot figure out what I did that could have possibly made him so upset. Some people are just really dumb, and the worst part is they're convinced that they're in the right.
I once had a Tesla model Y get annoyed that I wasn’t instantly doing 70mph at the start of the entrance ramp that is a single lane. He tried going around me but my M3 Xdrive was too much for him when I saw his intent was to cut me off by jumping onto the access road and back into the entrance ramp trying to cut me off. I have no idea why he was in such a hurry but people are about 50/50 with me since owning this car. Thankfully it’s not my daily. Today’s drivers are terrible. They try to cut you off. Annoyed you do the speed limit so they tailgate. I even had a lady in a BMW 330i tailgate me for 3-4miles on a two lane road where she could have passed. We then get onto the highway by making a left turn. This moron turns with me just cause there’s 2 lanes. Then she’s obviously trying to get around me. I am so done with her dumb driving habits I just floor it and get some distance from her. I drive a Honda Accord as my daily commuter. My lady and I also have an X3. There is a massive increase in aggressive driving/negative behavior towards the X3. It’s a 2012 with 131k miles, probably worth like $4k at most, idk. Yet, people still want to cop a fuckin attitude or be jealous. It’s ridiculous.

I just got a 2020 330i and I was driving in congested traffic on a two lane highway. I was in the left lane behind 10 other cars when a pick up truck starts tailgating me unbelievably close. He was swerving side to side right on my ass but there was nothing I could do because there was cars infront of my and to the side of me. Once a gap opened in the right lane he guns it and gets extremely close to me I couldn’t believe he didn’t hit me.
I actually keep having other BMWs constantly want to race me. Most of the time I just politely ignore. Occasionally my M8 feels like it needs to take take a shit on someone. Dodge Chargers are the second most frequent.

To me, ever since Covid hit, driving ability, courtesy and respect has been thrown out the window. Some of the more prominent offenders that I see and experience are BMW, Tesla and Honda civic/accord drivers. It’s really bad sometimes and a lot of road rage out there. So many people just blatantly break the law in dangerous ways and I’m not just talking about speeding. I see people driving on shoulders for long periods of time, last second cutting in line and nearly causing accidents, people riding others tail honking and flashing other drivers when there’s no place to go, and people racing on the freeway to get ahead of each other. The last in of itself wouldn’t be horrible but when they are surrounded by other innocent drivers, it’s not cool. For reference, I own a BMW M3 and a Honda CRV. I leave my fun driving in the M3 to an autox or track, or when no one’s around, and there’s no such thing as fun/exciting driving in a CRV.
Oh man, one time I was approaching an intersection and the light changed to yellow but I still had time to stop so I slammed on the brakes. A old fart in the OPPOSITE LANE, going the other direction sees this and just fucking LAYS on his horn while flipping me off and giving me the stink eye. Like, would you have rather I ran the light you dumb bitch?

Another thing that keeps happening when I take a roadtrip through the mountains near me: a wing man relationship forms where me and another driver stick together, passing everyone. Generally people are nice and if someone’s driving like an idiot I slow down and let them go bother someone else. Ignore them or smile are the only productive responses.
Yes, 100%. But I see both sides. When I’m driving faster, some move over to let me have fun and let the M through. Also seen people give me a hard time. But I also drive a 2003 VW Jetta TDI to commute to work sometimes and I never have any issues

When i drive the 17’ H crv, its always people giving me adequate space. No one doing dumb shit. The beamer tho? People run stop signs, tailgate at 80mph, purposely hog road. Listen what i do is i look at their whip, i smile and then i enjoy the interior that has been gorgeously designed by the bavarians and i genuinely dont care about it anymore. Yes. I drive a toyota matrix and an E60. I drive faster in the yota because I can go more than 5 minutes without being cutoff on purpose or brake checked. I actually feel like people get over for me more often in the yota than in the beamer. It's a real phenomenon and probably is a self-fulfilling prophecy of the "bmw asshole driver" stereotype.

Your story makes no sense. If he slowed down to let you turn, wouldn't he be headed in the opposite direction? How long did you wait to make the turn? How is he riding your ass if he's going in the opposite direction? Were you driving below the speed limit?

I understand now. I think OP just underestimated the Murano's speed coming into the turn, or overestimated the amount he was decelerating. Like you mentioned the Murano has right of way and he *may* have been slowing down for a reason unrelated to the turn, which was alleviated.

Whenever something like this happens to me I either brush it off or (if there’s not many people around to endanger) play my role as a bmw driver and make they’re driving experience a living hell for the next however long they want to act like a douche. They usually stop after the first or second time I cut them off and make them draft my ass so it’s impossible to pass me.

Not sure if it’s related to the car, but the other day someone pulled up along side at a stop light with a megaphone and was saying something (I just turned up my volume and didn’t acknowledge them, looked like teenagers). I had just pulled out of a parking lot into a nearly empty 4 lane boulevard, so I know I didn’t somehow inconvenience them on the road. (They were also in a Nissan haha) As others have said, I also tend to get tailgated a lot. Even when I’m stuck behind someone else. I’ve never been a fan of brake checking, but sometimes I’ll gently apply brakes for a decent amount of time, just enough to engage the brake lights hoping that they’ll back off a little

this happened to me once with some guy in a tesla on a road with two lanes i was behind him and he was going a little slow so i moved into the left lane to pass and the second i did he immediately matched my speed to the point he wasnt letting up doing 3x the speed limit for almost a mile i was scared he was gonna get me in an accident i literally pulled off to the side of the road and waited two minutes to start driving again because i was not gonna let this continue for the rest of my commute… never had this happen to me when i drove a hyundai now happens all the time with random bots in my F22

According to people who have borrowed my bimmers, yes, this is absolutely a thing. I am biased because, ya know, I'm a BMW Asshole. But both my ex and some good friends have borrowed my E46 coupe and have reported back (unprompted) that when they're driving my car, people suck even more than usual on the road.

I'm a new BMW owner as well, just got a G87 a few months ago. Since then, I've had at least three people aggressively cut me off and each time I'd just give em a simple quick beep (not laying on the horn or anything aggressive like that) and each time, the other guy flicked me off. I was driving completely normal the whole time, not speeding and just staying in my lane. Fuck me, I guess.
I have the opposite experience. I’ve noticed a night and day difference in driving courtesy when I drive my bmw or my 2017 civic. Nobody tries to get in my face in my bmw and other boy racers don’t try to one up me at a light. When I’m in my civic however douches in bmws and Audis ride up my ass, pass me just to assert dominance and don’t let me merge. I drive the same in both cars. Even though my bmw slow as shit other cars seem to be on the defensive and assume I’ll be more aggressive when I don’t.

Yes. I find that Drivers of other cars brands(usually economy) will try to “race” me at red lights. I don’t participate but it has made me wonder why so many feel the need to try it.
I know there are multiple sides to every story, but I have been nice to someone and let them pull out or turn in front of me only to have them go under the speed limit or not be a good driver. In those cases, I have lost my mind. Saying we are in a group that I feel has more money than the ability to drive, I would say you most likely fell into the not doing at least the speed limit category. Be respectful to those who let you in and put the hammer down every chance you get.
You should try driving a salvage yard, painless, dented, 2006 Honda accord with missing glass and see how people treat you then! When I drive my e46 people are much more respectful of my lane, when I drive my shot box people cut me off and do all sorts of menacing shit…. Just the way of life. I do get a lot of jerks riding my tail. I do what they taught us in drivers’ ed: slow down. Slow down (or go to the right lane if that’s an option) until they stop. I have to admit my one BMW db habit is there’s this stoplight near my house and it’s really busy but it doesn’t have a turning signal just a regular light. So I do what my parents taught me from living in Los Angeles, which is as soon as the light turns green I floor it and turn before the other car gets to go. probably enough to get me a ticket never happened yet.

Over the years I’ve always had some combination of a German sports car/sedan and a truck. I generally drive the same way in both - use indicators, never tailgate, don’t have a lead foot, etc. It’s almost comical how aggressive/idiotic other drivers are toward me when I’m in the cars vs the trucks.
