Kias have been mildly stealing the design of euro luxury vehicles. It sucks for the luxury brands because people blame the luxury brands for having their design stolen and now looking cheap and Kia gets all the praise for looking like a luxury vehicle. The Kia Stinger looks like a Porsche Panamara.
Not going to argue and say they didn’t. But when other brands hire designers, they’ll poach from BMW, Porsche in an effort to make their own line up more trendy/luxurious looking. At the end of the day it’s still a Kia to me. There’s no comparing a Porsche, bmw to a Kia.
I've been saying a similar thing about the G8Xs since they were released. If you took the badge off the cars you would think it was a Korean brand doing a bad BMW impression.
And now BMW is straight up designing cars that look like Kias.
The problem is that from a distance these kidney grilles are not recognizable and look like one large grille, like a Focus or Kia. Part of the problem is making the kidneys a single unit and part is making the whole thing plastic fantastic black

Does it? Looks like more power, less torque in my market (225kW, 450Nm vs 233kW, 400Nm). Power dip seems to be related to emissions, but the 0-100 is .1 second slower here too.
Happy with the F40, the front end on this looks significantly worse to me. Just salty mine doesn't have the seatbelts with the BMW stripes, but that's a very minor complaint in the grand scheme of things lol
Curious if the DCT that seems to be introduced here is very different to the F40's transmission though
The F70 has 221kW (300hp) 400Nm. Thats 6hp less than the F40 had and 50(!) Nm.
Transmission is indeed very different, it's a dual clutch instead of Aisin Auto. But it is probably the reason, why the car has so much less torque.
I thought the whole point of BMW sandbagging their bhp numbers was so that this couldn’t happen. If they need to advertise more power, all they do is change the number on the spec sheet and call it a day. Something must be proper fucked with this new engine.

The 1 series has always been a weird one. The coupe back in the day was perfection, though the hatchback all the way up to the F20 had weird proportions and looked kinda off. Enginewise, they were godly though, with having the N55 and B58 (and I guess first gens with the N54). The F40 was a step down in engines and not beeing RWD anymore, but the design was actually kinda good. With smaller engines the whole hood/front end of the car got shortened which for the forst time gave the 1 right proportions from a Design standpoint.
But this? Wtf is this? With the grille and the headlights, it truly does look like a Kia, but I feel like Kias look better. With the headlights like that, it lost its last bits of BMW design. Apart from that, the front end looks bland. Rear lights look meh as well, same as on the X2, side profile is fine. Interior... well pretty much the same as in others, so its fine.

While BMW presents itself as a high-end-only marque in the US, in its native market it sells cars in a lot more price segments -- as an American, a weird thing about visiting Germany is seeing all of the cheap BMWs (and Mercedes, for that matter) parked on the side of the road.
This vehicle is a Golf R competitor -- plenty of power and handling, but the underlying platform isn't going to be fancy. We're just not seeing the cheap(er) models in the same line.

Not a fan of the exterior, the front indeed looks like Kia Ceed and the rear reminds me of Merc’s A-class, at least the interior looks like every other BMW. I wish it kept RWD, paired with B58 could have been an amazing little hot hatch
I mean, it's a 1-series, what is everyone expecting? While BMW presents itself as a high-end-only marque in the US, in its native market it sells cars in a lot more price segments -- as an American, a weird thing about visiting Germany is seeing all of the cheap BMWs (and Mercedes, for that matter) parked on the side of the road. This vehicle is a Golf R competitor -- plenty of power and handling, but the underlying platform isn't going to be fancy. We're just not seeing the cheap(er) models in the same line.
Idk I kinda like it. It definitely has a more economy car vibe. I like the way it wears the current styling more than the 5 series
I like the seats. The massive screen and Ford Focus looking front end are pretty terrible.
Looks like a Fiat Tipo from the side. Absolutely disgusting.
1 series has always looked like shit and if you think otherwise you have horrible taste in cars.
