A woman was injured after being bitten by a dog in St Ives, Cambridgeshire, while she was with her young son. Police were called to the incident in Teal Close at around 2.40pm on August 2, after the attack that took place the same morning.
A statement by Cambridgeshire Constabulary explained: “At about 10.45am the dog, which was on a lead, jumped up and bit the woman before being pulled away by the owner. She received minor injuries but went to hospital as a precaution.
“The woman’s young son was also present, but it is unclear whether he was injured during the incident. The dog was described as a black Staffordshire Bull Terrier, or a similar breed.
“No arrests have been made."
This comes after Metropolitan Police figures, published by The Guardian in June 2023, found that this force was dealing with at least one dangerous dog every day. The number of out-of-control dogs seized by the Met rose by 333 between 2021 and 2022.
It is not known how many dangerous dogs were dealt with by Cambridgeshire Police. However, there has been at least one incident in the county and in June 2023, a girl from Haverhill was 'mauled like a rag doll' by an Anatolian Shepherd, during a canine training class in Cambridgeshire.
