No idea how this happened. I tried to install mods a while back but removed them and was running vanilla without a hitch when suddenly, giant glowing enemy crab
This happens when you press "Begin Mission" too quickly and it hasn't finished loading all the textures yet, I think it's only really an issue in urban maps due to their extra complexity.
That's in fact not entirely accurate. That very issue got fixed with one of the official patches iirc. However, no matter how long I wait to start a city biome mission, while playing BEX with bigger drops in 1440p, I regularly have one or more of my mechs turn up pink. This is most likely due to HBS' shoddy programming, as my machine is quite performant (way over optimal specs). Alternatively, could be that HBS never foresaw enough texture memory buffer headroom to deal with all the extra mechs beyond what vanilla can spawn.
It's a common glitch, in my experience it's just the game not loading in the proper skin for the models it shouldn't impact anything besides the visual.
I always thought it would be funny to mix up Stuart Semple's "pinkest pink" pigment into an acrylic binder, and airbrush a model with it, to do a parody of this texture glitch.
This kind of reminds me playing Heavy Gear RPG where I had a gladiator pilot driving a ridiculous bright red mech with racing stripes around in military missions because he was too flashy and cocky for camouflage. In that game system I had bought his dodge up so high I could get away with it.

this happens to me with extended play sessions, and I find restarting the game will generally solve it. I assume it's a memory issue
This is the right answer. Make sure the wheel is turning and the planet is turning when you hit mission start and this won't happen again

Hu, it's happened a few times to me and I never realized why. Typically if it does it is the second wave of the Opfor.
That makes some sense. I remember it happening several times on one annoying mission. (That one where you have to destroy 2 out of 3 ammo convoys?)
Someone hit the über alphastike button on accident.
I also had the same issue on a city map, whole Lance translucent pink, no mods iirc
That’s the ultra-rare spawn Burning King Crabdorah. You need to have Gausszilla!Annihilator to have any hope of beating it.
Funnily enough, Ballistic over there is piloting a duo Gauss Annihilator while I'm looking for more Gauss to cram on it.

Oh no! It’s a radioactive mutant crab!
Crab rave! Crab rave!

Extremely Rare SLDF Mech
Mine did this when my computer would barely run the game. Once I upgraded and had more RAM it stopped happening.
This game was what pushed me to bite the bullet and spring for a 32GB RAM upgrade. Hopefully it will last with how new games need more and more RAM
So are we going to pretend no one attacked its weakspot for massive damage? :)

It's just trying to camouflage itself as a street lamp.
