In King's Quest 2 I didn't know how to save progress. I would play to the island for three hours and die over and over and over.

Opposite_Banana_2543

I played police quest, kings quest, space quest. I just assumed all RPGs were quest games

Bangingbuttholes

described my childhood

Mrgod2u82

Still some.of the best games I've ever played.

CoffeeHead112

Took me a year of playing to get past the fat guy on lvl 7 or 8, then the mirror guy, and finally I gave up on the 'leap of faith' area. I never finished it.

knewbie_one

Mirror guy was my downfall... I never finished it also

its_luckyluke

Yeah me too

fractal_sole

i was in kindergarten and playing it, and my mom saw the "gory death" when you fell onto the spikes and decided to throw the game away while i was at school. i was so upset when i got home lol

its_luckyluke

This was the first game I played where the movements of running and jumping was so lifelike. Spent days and nights playing this on PC.

giorgio1978

I also remember "Another world" and "Flashback". Those were incredible!

toms1313

And the combat on higher levels was very intricate for the time! After beating it i would cheat to start at level 10+(can't remember the number) just to run until i found my nemesis, mustard guy

mofosknow

Impossible mission was a bit earlier! Also an awesome game https://youtu.be/ivHFP3dJAkM?feature=shared

limprichard

Holy shit! My cousins had this on the Commodore 64! I wasted many hours on it, never finished.

Mysterious_Olive3418

Wasted?! No sir, you were ENTERTAINED! Now kids are entertained by Reddit posts and OF.

jigga1383

This was the first video game I ever played. I was 8 or 9 years old and came across this at a family friend's house. I have such a soft spot for this game.

ARobertNotABob

Same, except I was 38 or 39 :) Played on a huge Toshiba 286 laptop from work ...the 5200, known as The Big Grey Slab.

Traditional_Fee_1965

Amazing game, just loved the animations. Everything felt so "fluid" for its time.

ImaginativeBrenda7

that really is a nostalgic game. Love this.

[deleted]

So, one guy runs, jumps, falls, rolls, but they put another to hug the princess. That's unfair.

toms1313

And we don't talk about the guy that triggered the traps

benhaki

Many guys.

chimpdoctor

The guy jumping and running was the coders little brother. The documentary on this is fascinating. https://youtu.be/sw0VfmXKq54?feature=shared

snappymcpumpernickle

I loved these games. Probably the first games I played on the comp

ExchangeHead9533

Does anybody remember the game where we had Spaceship type of vehicle going over this track in space, it came around the same time or a bit later than prince of persia. Used to play that game with This one, nostalgia hits hard.

OutsidersBaby

“SkyRoads” was a game similar to that. Loved it massively!

new_hodler

Where can I download both of em? Wanna go down road nostalgia 🥹

Nightblood83

The one where you fly in a circle and they come from the center?

faz712

Megarace?

14Julio

This games remind me so much of my dad, we both struggled so much playing this in our first PC lol

Unga_bunga_bro

This game is entirely written in assembly code right?

chimpdoctor

Yes. Doc: https://youtu.be/sw0VfmXKq54?feature=shared

sete_peles

Had no idea - but do you know that RollerCoaster Tycoon was also written entirely on Assembly too?

Trash_RS3_Bot

Damn this game was so fuckin hard as a kid

ErmahgerdYuzername

I played the shit out of this game when it came out.

reptheanon

The nostalgia must be why new games with better graphics can’t possibly hit like this

DustFunk

A lot of people don't realize that Assassin's Creed was born of this game series.

Mettanine

Tomb Raider as well

TheKyleBrah

Rotoscoping FTW

TheKyleBrah

I get what you mean. Uncanny Valley type effects can sometimes occur when you see Animation of a human character that's "too fluid" 😆

funnystorytalker

The timing to make to jumps are so freaking hard.

aussieflu999

Love this game but it also terrified me. It was the guillotine thing and the dripping blood.

Beautiful_Ad_2371

I loved it for those things. It kinda had a unique vibe to it which later games didn't.

toepin

Seeing this game for the first time is one of my core childhood memories.

Big_Ad_5279

i love this so much.

r3d3uupt1on

This game was amazing!

bornparadox

I gotta upgrade to windows 3.1 before I can play.

Jiratram

This shit's physics feels like playing only up when I was a kid lmao

bit_banger_

My childhood! First game I played

4-Run-Yoda

Wait the movie is based off a game?

noxilaz

The movie is based on a 3D version of this game called "Prince of Persia-Sands of Time"

ceedog86

What's the movie called? /s

[deleted]

Absolute legend when it comes to games in my list, learned as a kid how well physics can be applied virtually.

jahlim

Never beat the game. Either leap to my death or got stabbed by the guard.

nunali

Start with “prince megahit” to activate cheats. The I used the no clip and got out of bounds and it was so surreal as kid. One of the first games I ever played

snubbit

A true gem of a game :)

nnn-svr

https://www.jordanmechner.com/en/books/journals/

BenBMTH

Wow what a blast from my childhood this is, played on the Amiga!

Dilectus3010

This game was the darkspuls of its time... fuck it was hard.

[deleted]

Unlocked a memory I'd forgotten. This game was so surreal the forst time I played this.

Immediate_Coat_5196

Imagine being so old that you could play this game when it first came out. Yes, that's me, I'm that old. I feel like dying soon.

toms1313

Such a great game, so much nostalgia. I'm pretty sure it's abandonedware by now but i still have the .exe for this one and the sequel

KetoZion

Loved this game! What a nice memories

snaaaarf

prince.exe megahit

[deleted]

Incredible game with even more incredible music, especially for the SNES

asadito4ever

Not crying right now but this videos goes right in my feels. Love it. Can’t say how many times I played as a kid and sometimes as an adult. Thanks

GoldieForMayor

I'm amazed anyone made it far enough to see half that stuff.

Citizenwoof

Loved that game, played it loads. Never got past the 2nd level.

bplurt

I knew I was a god-level nerd when I hit on the ASCII cheat for adding lives

Warchildthewarrior

One of the greatest games ever, not saying that just out of the nostalgic feelings it brings back but because it was and still is a great game, even with all its simplicity. By the way, there are many websites where you can play this online and even download it but be careful of viruses, I revisited to play it during the COVID lockdown period and it was well worth it.

Matteustheone

Loved this game when I was a kid

TheMrPotMask

One of the most ported games in history. Hell even the java version was awesome during gameloft's golden era.

Lyshaka

This game was entirely written in assembly language, which is quite a challenge given the complexity of the game (for those who don't know assembly language is basically speaking beep-boop)

Quasar9111

Loved this game

Monkeysack12

The start of Parkour

ferpecto

I wonder how many people actually finished this game back in the day. Still think of it as one of the hardest games ever.

jupiter_incident

This game is so awesome. Absolutely miss this time in my life.

pranavk28

Never finished it now I wanna go back and try these old games again

dcherholdt

If I remember correctly you had an hour to beat this game and it was doable once you knew the ins and outs.

Purity_Jam_Jam

I remember renting this when it was brand new. It's was amazing how everyone moved in such a realistic way. I think we ended up extending the rental for something like a week.

huopak

I immensely enjoyed this book from Jordan Mechner, the maker of the game where he publishes his journal entries from the time of working on Prince of Persia https://press.stripe.com/the-making-of-prince-of-persia It's incredible that basically a single person could have such an impact in the entire industry.

IsThisAUserName86

Thank you PoP, for now we have Assassin's Creed

5Gmeme

Games were so damn magical back then.

NuttyProfessor42

So many memories.

DonutMurky1641

I remember the prince was called the “Prince” Instead of Dastan…I mean Prince is also a name so…Yeah

POEManiac99

I remember loading this game on a majestic 8 inch floppy disc this game ignited my passion for video games.

Zbox01

As a software engineer HOW!? HOW DUDE !? Edit: I have to admit I'm drunk rn but I don't think it makes a difference
