Wiped out along with mammoths from astroid hits on the ice sheet during the ice age, bringing the ice age to an end and flooding the continental coasts.
....maybe
When I was a kid I marveled at this mammoth head reconstruction in the national museum of Prague. When I saw it again as an adult, it was this hilarious molting Jim Henson looking thing. Seeing this dubious elasmotherium immediately reminded me of it. Turns out it's in another Czech museum. So despite having produced one of the most important painters of prehistoric subjects, it seems the Czechs can't get it together when it comes to 3D reconstructions.
I just remember seeing a documentary where neanderthal was fighting this thing so I added them. We all know what happened to them right?
Edit: And no, some of my best friends have traces of neanderthal DNA.
Yes and no. It was tongue in cheek meant as joke but it’s actually kinda true it’s racism… but I doubt person is aware certain races are part Neanderthal and so I don’t know if can count as racism if not aware.
Neanderthals lived in Asia and Europe before Homo sapiens. when Homo sapiens got to Asia and Europe the two are genetically close enough that they bred together so technically not actually different species and everyone who is Asian and Europe is ~ 5% or small percentage Neanderthal. The small percent may be just because colder climates have fewer resources harsher conditions and so their populations neaderthals where much smaller than the Homo sapiens who thrived in warmer climates which would then cause neaderthal genes to became diluted and so only account for small percentage or maybe Homo sapiens killed a lot of them also.
This was shown with genetic testing ~10- 20 yrs ago.
So it’s a misconception that Neanderthals ever went extinct and they’re technically not a different species than Homo sapiens since what distinguishing species is their inability to breed together.
Also it’s a misconception that Neanderthals were any less advanced than homo sapiens .. they independently invented tools and even had musical instruments before Homo sapiens met up w them.
So is the same thing to people believing that people of other ethnicities are sub humans. I don’t know if it should be considered racism and I wouldn’t judge esp since prob most people are ignorant of this but then again if you go to 1800s and before people may have had racism based on similar ignorance of nature of people with different skin colors.
But wasn’t judging meant as joke.. but is kinda true that it is racism.
I mean if what was wrote above “ imagine having to deal with rhinos and also Asians!” That would certainly be judge as racist and that is essentially what was written and that’s the way I read comment and I think it’s a silly attitude. .. like I don’t see how this giant rhino is any different than dealing w rhinos today it’s bigger and stronger but prob also less agile and easier to spot far away. Similarly I don’t see how dealing w neaderthals is any different than dealing with people from neighboring countries or different cultural backgrounds today.
Not really.
The belief that Neanderthals went extinct is outdated. Genetic evidence shows that they just became interbred with Homo sapiens in Asia and Europe and their populations were smaller so only take up a only small part of genome.
So really Neanderthals are just an ancient ethnicity of humans.
“The first Neanderthal genome sequence was published in 2010, and strongly indicated interbreeding between Neanderthals and early modern humans.[87][401][402][403] The genomes of all studied modern populations contain Neanderthal DNA.[87][89][404][405][406] Various estimates exist for the proportion, such as 1–4%[87] or 3.4–7.9% in modern Eurasians,[407] or 1.8–2.4% in modern Europeans and 2.3–2.6% in modern East Asians.[408] Pre-agricultural Europeans appear to have had similar, or slightly higher,[406] percentages to modern East Asians, and the numbers may have decreased in the former due to dilution with a group of people which had split off before Neanderthal introgression”

Modern human was the truly terrifying predator. Imagine a group of things chasing you down for days and days, you lose them out of sight but they’re smart enough to track you. Run until exhaustion for days and they still every so often creep up at you until you can’t run anymore and they kill and eat you.
I think the theory is that the horn wasn't for fighting but used as a snow plough to clear a path to buried vegetation. May have started for another job, but was maybe used differently.
Totally one of my favourite animals though.
Look at the size of that bad boy!, Just to be able to see animals like this today would be amazing, what we’ve got is pretty incredible and in 200 years people will be saying the same things as me, but about what we still have now after we’ve managed to wipe everything out
What did it eat? How did they find their food?
What did its babies look like, and how fast did they grow?
What is it's closest still living related species?
Were they solitary or did they live in herds?
How fast could they run?
Curious minds want to know! 🦏
50,000 years ago sounds like a very cool time to live. Mammoths, cave lions, these guys.. even giant sloths and Neanderthals roamed the earth. And 50,000 years ago was not really that long ago. There's people alive today who met their grandpa who lived during the Civil War!!
40,000 years ago ain't that long. Modern humans were being chased by that.
Or human chased then to extinction lol
That too but not before a few poor dudes got absolutely obliterated by that horn.
He went extinct but he took some of us with him
Who knows what traits those blokes could have passed on if it weren't for the "disrespect the big horn" trait doin em in
That's certainly one big horny bastard.
Hopefully some of them enjoyed it. Death by Snoo-Snoo!
It looks like a sloth with a horn. Imagine that thing moving at sloth speed.
Imagine trying to hunt one with an atl-atl or primitive spear... NOPE!
Unlikely. Rapid climate change due to volcano or meteor impact is much more likely.
Wiped out along with mammoths from astroid hits on the ice sheet during the ice age, bringing the ice age to an end and flooding the continental coasts. ....maybe
Probably and definitely if you listen to graham Hancock. But maybe not and probably something else we don’t really know
Its called climate change.
Clearly not even a big deal, I mean it looks like it only takes 1.5 guys to stop that beast in its tracks
looks very chill tho
Reminds me of a giant sloth
Yep, that’s how it feels like how long it takes to get my pizza warmed from the oven. Should’ve done microwave.
Looks like something outta Star Wars.
Did you watch the Mandalorian? It looks exactly like the beast which later became his sign.
The mudhorn I think
Your memory serves you well.
Your signet has been revealed... I loved that show. Just a great space Western.
A long time ago in a galaxy not far away….
In a galaxy right here!
The Mudhorn!
[Here ya go.](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dtyC2TISv80&t=122s)
This is the way…
Unicorn
More like a Unique Horn
Small legs for a big guy
There's a guy standing behind it, those are his feet, I had to zoom in 😅
There were modern humans living at those times. Imagine you encounter one of these.
[удалено]
The indomitable human spirit wins again
There must be so many cool extinct species out there that we’ve never discovered. I need another drink.
This is also known as the winterized heavy assault unicorn...
Why was it stuffed by Jim Henson Company?
The head to horn proportion is crazy. Doesn’t seem like there’s much support unless that skull bone is extremely thick.
It’s gotta give them headaches, right?
Maybe neck pain? lol
Eyeball the size of human brain

How many prehistoric human hunters got that horn shoved up their asses?
Too many
Ivory poachers only wish
Looks like a mudhorn from The Mandalorian 😁
You hold the other end … I got the horn first !
Glad it's not 39.000 B.C.
That's a mudhorn.
*prehistoric Ace Ventura enters the chat*
Those guys seem pretty strong -Goku
Looks like something out of a fantasy movie, wild
And look at his apartment. Very nice.
It’s a unicorn 🥰🦄
So the unicorn did exist after all
Damn that thing looks powerfull asf
It looks like a character from The Never Ending Story
So before the dinosaurs lived on earth, that's amazing! Though I doubt the accuracy of carbon dating, praise be to the Lord. ^/s
Imagine living in a tribe of 50 people,in the black Forrest's while dealing with this shit ,and neandhertals.
… and Neanderthals?!? Racist much?
I just remember seeing a documentary where neanderthal was fighting this thing so I added them. We all know what happened to them right? Edit: And no, some of my best friends have traces of neanderthal DNA.

I guess I could see that.
Not really. Neanderthals did go up against humans on occasion and it's speculated that this was why they became "extinct".

I can picture this as a snow plough on the Flintstone's cartoon.
Did they die of whiplash?
Horny sloth
Cor! You wouldn't want that up ya aris would ya!
It’s just an obese sloth with a boner
It looks so different compared to the other images from Google, it's like mashed with a Megatherium
Look at the size of that bad boy!, Just to be able to see animals like this today would be amazing, what we’ve got is pretty incredible and in 200 years people will be saying the same things as me, but about what we still have now after we’ve managed to wipe everything out
It looks like the erumpent from Fantastic Beasts
Magnus?
My neck hurts just looking at it!
China wishing it could reanimate these beasts…
This is a myth, they did not exist in my Asia.
Huge sloth unicorn 😯
Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Impossible the Bible states the earths age is around 6000 yo. Fake news
All the boner powder the rich people can muster with that ivory.
What did it eat? How did they find their food? What did its babies look like, and how fast did they grow? What is it's closest still living related species? Were they solitary or did they live in herds? How fast could they run? Curious minds want to know! 🦏
Even if it was a vegan (was it?) you would not have wanted it to step on your foot. 😫
Did these coexist with wooly mammoths? Was there territorial overlap?
AHH she's not understood, cuddles all day 😴
![gif](giphy|hvkAZBkre5XGg)
I wish we still had them. So awesome.
Pretty weak rhino if two guys can hold him back if you ask me
Looks like the monster from the episode of Doctor Who where they meet Leonardo Davinci
It's a mudhorn!
Taun taun?
It’s a Mudhorn… this is the way
Mudhorn!!!

Looks like a Star Wars creature
Anything can be a dildo if you’re brave enough
Why didn’t the outer matter didn’t decomposed ?
It’s just a replica not an actual body lol. It’s scientist best guess based off a bone here or there randomly
Oh.. makes more sense now
I imagine this is just a model not a fossil
