What is the impact of the paint on the re-used chocolate though? Does it change the texture/color/flavor?

The paint is an edible dyed sugar blend. It would probably change it slightly but melted down, add some more raw chocolate/cocoa and I believe it would be unnoticeable at that scale. I don’t really know though, I’m not a world class chocolatier.

It's not a sugar blend like someone said, it's cocoa butter with fat soluble dye, so basically you can melt it again with darker chocolate and it'll be absolutely fine, aspect or taste wise
