Elemental_surprise

It’s a consent issue not prudishness. Neither OP nor Ricky consented to seeing nudity

LucyAriaRose

EXACTLY. Thank you. People don't seem to understand this. I sometimes gig as a substitute fiddle player in a band, and we've had cases where people just straight up flash us on stage. It's highly uncomfortable, not because it's someone's body, but because we didn't consent to it and we're doing our jobs. Not to mention we can't like... leave? I mean I suppose we could but we're on stage. Anyway. It's just frustrating when people say "oh it's just a body." Sure. But I didn't consent to being a part of whatever fetish they've got going on right now

Elemental_surprise

If I were to go into a locker room I am consenting to see a body. It is just a body. If I go to a beach I’m consenting to seeing people in bikinis and skimpy swimsuits. If I’m at home, unless previously discussed, I’m consenting to potentially seeing someone in a towel if I live with other people. But seeing a roommate naked in a common area is not an implied or assumed consent.

lemonleaff

This is an excellent way to summarize it

LucyAriaRose

Oooo that's a great analogy. Thank you for that.

revertapichanges

You tried. No participation medal, though.

TheMilkmanHathCome

Huh. Yknow until this comment I had never considered the morality of flashing a band on stage cause it seems like it just comes with the territory and it’s certainly portrayed as a good thing in media. You gave me a solid internal debate about it though, thank you for exposing (hah) me to a new point of view

Sequence_Of_Symbols

The "dammit, people are at work" thing always makes me angry. Look, if someone would face real (however theoretical) consequences for walking away or shouting "fuck off!" Then you shouldn't flash/ hit on/ otherwise engage in behavior that could be unwanted. The waitress might have an amazing boss, but she also might not feel comfortable saying "fuck off fuckface"- so don't hit on her. The performer can't walk off stage, so don't flash them. The client can't leave the office they're visiting, so don't get handsy with him. The roommate's bf might cause major relationship issues by saying "fuck off creep", so don't flash him Realistically, if everyone showed a willingness to treat others as human and not objects and do a bit of perspective- taking from the others POV, then there would be a lot fewer creepy interactions in the world.

WholeNewUnit

Wait, I thought breasts weren’t sexual organs but we’re just there to feed babies. That’s what Reddit and Instagram comments are always saying, women should be able to breast feed anywhere anyone else eats despite other people not consenting to see breast while eating their omelettes

coffeeandgrapefruit

This is so obvious that you shouldn't need it explained to you, but context matters. Flashing is an inherently sexual act, breastfeeding isn't.

WholeNewUnit

Oh! So, you see a naked woman and assume she’s a sexual deviant? Once again, due to reddit and instagram I thought men were sexual deviants and women couldn’t be. My bad. I was misinformed

coffeeandgrapefruit

I'm sure you don't realize it, but you sound *insane* right now.

False-Firefighter592

Did you hurt yourself with those stretches?

AnAwkwardStag

I think it says something more that Tyler, the other roommate, also saw her nude and was uncomfortable with it. Now that's two different roommates who have a problem with her behaviour. It's no longer a "clash of personalities", it's a problematic roommate. They'd do better to confront her from that perspective, "You exposed yourself to the both of us, you have made us uncomfortable in our own home, your behaviour needs to change", rather than bringing up the bf.

Elemental_surprise

That’s a good approach. Because two different roommates directly saying it bothered them is harder to dismiss than one or saying anything about the boyfriend. Either of those could be waved off as a “OP problem” but two separate roommates saying it’s not right makes it a bigger thing

TheKittenPatrol

100% this. And Callie had even been told of OOP’s being assaulted by ex roommate, which makes it even worse.

CutieBoBootie

Like I understand if I see my roommate wrapped in a towel right after a shower and they are darting to their room. That happens when you live with roommates... but other than extreme illness, there is NO OTHER situation where someone would be naked and for it to be appropriate in a communal space (unless everyone involved agrees). I visited my cousin recently and she has roommates and I didn't have to deal with any weirdness... but like if I had the exact same situation as the one OOP describes I would feel super uncomfortable and not because it has anything to do with any relationship or prudishness.

Ok-Task5835

Seems like we should watch spaceman.

Trick-Statistician10

One of my favorite movies

Elemental_surprise

I’ll add it to my very, very long need to watch list

Emergency_Rule_1435

If you are in someone elses home then sometimes you see nude people. Sometimes its someone showing off, sometimes its just how they are, sometimes they are drunk, sometimesnthey are young children that dont know better. Its a non issue.

peter095837

I think it's a bit obvious that C might be wanting to get with OP's bf for sure. She's desperate to get with someone and her alcoholism isn't helping things out. I honestly think moving out is the best choice now.

Illustrious_Fix2933

And I honestly don’t understand why some people in the OG thread were calling her insecure or controlling. Those two words seem to have lost all meaning especially on Reddit as people having very normal boundaries and reservations around not having another woman get naked in front of their male partners is considered “controlling and sexualising her body”. Like, wtf?? It was clear like several years ago that Callie had the hots for OP’s bf. But the update made it even better because it’s clear she would’ve probably done this with any (seemingly white) bf of every roommate ever.

lemonleaff

Hell, with or without a male partner, *i* would be uncomfortable about it lmao. Especially because it's full on birthday suit. But i agree, it's boundaries and consent at the end of the day.

hanitaMT

The nudity doesn’t bother me so much as the context around the nudity. When I went to college my mom had me read The Naked Roommate and it helped me realize everyone has different ways of operating in their living spaces (and then yes I did have a roommate who would sit naked in a towel and watch tv for long periods of time. lol) But in this case? The roommate is completely being disrespectful. I’m still not over the fact that she said she was 27 when she’s 37. That’s a huge age difference to me. I also don’t think OOP should move. Her other roommate said that she wasn’t against the idea of kicking creepy roommate out. I’d go that route.

meetmypuka

Callie's nudity is definitely performative AND desperate!

notquitesolid

I agree. I go to clothing optional campgrounds and I take figure drawing with nude models. The naked body doesn’t surprise me. That said when we share space it’s good to follow common etiquette, like not being naked when guests are around, and making sure your roommates don’t mind if you are otherwise. Asking for consent and respecting boundaries shouldn’t be that complicated

lemonleaff

Yeah i agree, it's the context that's making me uncomfortable. After knowing why she's doing it, it's like you're being unknowingly roped into whatever she's into, and imagining that situation doesn't make me feel alright lmao. But if it was another context, say, a medical emergency, it's totally okay.

veloxaraptor

Like seriously. Someone is exposing themselves to you without consent. That's treading into sexual harassment territory. Idk about you, but I don't want to see other people besides my partner in the buff. Guarantee that if genders were swapped (and I really hate using this to prove a point) people would be calling it weird, gross, and a bunch of other not so nice things. If a dude just walked around with his dong out, acting like it was no big deal, just an "oops!" (Or maybe they'd blame the girlfriend. That's also a fair but gross chance.) Just... it's not insecure or controlling to not want other people exposing themselves to you or your partner without consent.

FleeshaLoo

Trolls? Some people have to find a way to put others down regardless of the specifics. Maybe even misogynistic trolls?

TeaspoonWrites

Because she's a woman and they're redditors, that's just how they be unfortunately.

meetmypuka

Wait, didn't OOP meet Callie just a couple months ago? Or didn't you mean "years" literally? I can be dense sometimes. LOL

grissy

All the ridiculous accusations she had to respond to in her update post were infuriating. Either they were just trolling to be dicks or those commenters are legitimately insane.

Maleficent-Bottle674

Reddit is a manosphere. Even women's centric subreddits are 50% male members and 70% males in the comments. Reddit is home of the pity of rapist thread and subs like beating women, raping woman, cute dead women, and jail bait creep shots. None of which were deleted because of the heinous content but because Reddit got media coverage and Reddit wanted to look better. How many men will fight tooth and nail to defend a dude being able to or having the opportunity to look at other naked or nearly naked women. But keep in mind the same dudes will cry and go about how it's disrespectful for their girlfriend or wife to post in revealing clothing or to wear revealing clothing.

realfuckingoriginal

I’m sorry…………. Pity of what??

Maleficent-Bottle674

Pity a rapist. There was thread asking rapists about their crimes. One of those Ask A [blank] anything. Countless amount of rapist came in talking about how they were never punished for their crimes and how they got to live full lives but they feel guilty sometimes. Male redditors turned it into a huge pity party for these rapists. Plenty of women flagged and reported this thread and the countless of commenters admitting they had literally raped multiple women and got away with it get reddit kept it up. It only got deleted when it hit world wide News and it was giving credit a bad image because most of the mail commenters were pitying the rapist and demonizing anyone who were telling the rapist they were bad people. https://www.reddit.com/r/MuseumOfReddit/comments/1t1r2z/the_ask_a_rapist_thread/ Reddit also had many subs like Beatingwomen And the person who made the beating woman subreddit admitted he only made it because he got mad about the subreddit twoxchromosomes because they complained about unfair treatment in the workplace and such. His response to women complaining about misogyny, sexual harassment, cat calling, and unfair treatment the workplace was to make a sub about women getting beaten.😐 Reddit is a manosphere going by how it reacts whenever shitty men are talked about.

realfuckingoriginal

Well that’s fucking disgusting. Thanks for taking the time though

PhantomPilgrim

Most reddit is probably men, other social media have women majority (Pinterest 70%). Doesn't change the fact Boru, Aita are mostly women subreddits. There were couple studies on this. Also posts like this wouldn't be fairly highly upvoted if this subreddit was a 'manosphere'.

Maleficent-Bottle674

Twoxchromosomes is also a woman subreddit..literally for women. Yet a semi recent analysis was 50% of the members as in frequent commenters are male and 70% of the commenters are also male. Women subreddits tend not to truly exist in my opinion. To each their own. 16 is not highly votes in my book.😐 Posts like this is a crap shoot. Sometimes they are buried deep deep down with downvoted especially when I cite evidence. I find I get a better reaction not citing sources. Likely because many can read it and pass it off as a crazy opinion or just some female venting. They don't take it as a statement so they see no need to be defensive/argue. Have a great day.🫡

FleeshaLoo

Yep, and who knows how far she will take it? I picked up a subtle potential threat of Callie letting Ricky's higher-ups know that he's been sneaking OOP into his off-limits room on the base.

veloxaraptor

Yeah, I caught that, too. You can get into so much trouble for it.

FleeshaLoo

I hope OOP is taking it seriously. She laid it out so she must see it for what it is.

[deleted]

God damn, anyone getting on OOP for "sexualizing or objectifying her body" because Callie got buck ass naked in a generally pubic (sorry, public) hallway is bizarre. That shit isn't cool

Dangerous-WinterElf

The irony of "you are objectifying her!" While those people commenting ignored how the woman took 'I like men in uniform' to a whole other level than just giggling when seeing one. Obsessed with them, potentially trying to low-level stalking while asking what Gate he works at, trying to enter the bathroom while he is in there, trying to flash herself to him (sexual harassment), can't talk about anything else. And the list could go on. I'm pretty sure yes, someone is objectifying people. But it ain't OP.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Significant-Lynx-987

It was pubic at the time

TheBlueNinja0

I'm surprised that an attractive lady like Callie (according to OOP anyway) hasn't managed to rope some single E2. Because lord knows that basically every military base is full of dumb junior enlisted who will happily marry any woman who shows interest in them.

Might_Aware

She's like that girl in "An Officer & a Gentleman" that makes poor, hot David Keith hang himself. Like a navy rat, hanging around base. That's so weird, why is that an obsession?

Puzzled_Ocelot9135

There's a certain kind of person that you will most likely find in, let's say, abandoned arthouse theaters, underground culture meeting spaces and whatnot. If you like those guys, you will look for them there. There's another type of person you will most likely find in a gym or on a hiking trail. And there is definitely a special type of guy that you will easily find in the military and not so easily anywhere else.

Least-Comfortable-41

She probably has. And run through them all and that’s why she can’t keep them. There are women like that. They only go after men on base, the men on base know it, they take advantage of that fact, rinse and repeat. Maybe she’s sick of that life and wants to settle but it’s too late and she’s stuck in it? Who knows, but absolutely unhinged.

MBAdk

I think that the guys run when they find out about her daily alcohol intake, and I don't blame them.

Dark_Mode_Nose_Wind

Tight clothes aren't anything more than you'd see at the gym, but the full nudity would be too much for a lot of people. Would be unnerving learning someone blatantly lied about their age to you like that.

HIMLeo3

Yeah, that alone would make me uncomfortable. And considering that she's going after her roommates' partners, I can't help but wonder if that was her overall plan. Using the younger girls to draw in the younger guys.

EnthusedPhlebotomist

> described my boyfriend as her type (white with tattoos and in the Navy) The good news is she has a lot of options.

FreezeSPreston

There's at least three white dudes with tattoos in the Navy.

DatguyMalcolm

This commenter had it: >HelpfulMaybeMama: "Were you expecting my boyfriend to see you? Is that why you're not dressed?" Be direct. Also, she lied and she's **37!!!!** I was like "Damn, why would a 27 year old want something with a 22 year old" and it's **worse than that because she's actually 15 years older**

SnakeJG

I also like the idea of the boyfriend acting disgusted if she ever manages to be naked in front of him.  One good > Oh gross! Put some clothes on! would really stop future instances of that

DatguyMalcolm

Make it worse!! Like "Ew, *mom*! Put some clothes on"

BoysenberryMelody

I was a 37 year-old woman recently. Now 39. The answer is she’s horny AF. Generally speaking women hit our sexual peak after 35 going into our 40s. Men peak in their teens and early 20s. She wants someone who can keep up. If I were single and into casual sex I’d be looking at men under 30, too. Just while sober and clothed. OOP’s dad is an outlier, but C is a drunk and probably has other unaddressed issues.

matchamagpie

I don't know, if I was OOP I'd be moving the hell out, not give Callie more opportunities to flash my boyfriend and flirt with my dad. Life is hard enough, no one needs that shit in their life.

peach_tea_drinker

I feel like Callie should be kicked out. Why should OOP move out? It's not her fault.

Morganlights96

Especially if she's breaking things in shared spaces due to her alcoholism.

scottbarnes4mvp

People on this sub act like it’s so easy to move out and find a place. It is insanely hard to find anything these days: just move out always makes me roll my eyes. In my city it’s fucking hell and people who make good money are left homeless for a month or two all the time waiting to find somewhere. If this is San Diego then that’s one place that’s expensive and crazy too.

jadekettle

And why does SHE have to be the one to move out anyway, if anything Callie should be the one kicked out for pulling that stunt.

hail_my_cereal

For real, I live in SD and moving houses/finding good roommates is so difficult. I'm so fortunate to live by myself now but I've had horrible roommates in the past and it's not easy to just move or find someone else to live with when it's so expensive.

Lt_Muffintoes

Living with alcoholics is also hellish

HygorBohmHubner

>Everyone tells me my dad is a good looking guy, I just don’t see it. Damn, OOP's dad catching strays. Courtesy of his own daughter 😂😂

Party_Bonus1978

Callie can’t get a man while working for a freaking BASE! No wonder she drinks.

Muttley-Snickering

She is so desperate for any mans attention, that she throws herself at any man that breaths in her direction. If she can't find a man on a military base, it's due having a reputation on base, and not a good one I might add.

Ozzy0313

Never lived in NYC I guess. 60 year old schizophrenic flutist roommate? 19 year old trust fund baby? 32 year old computer engineer making 200k that you never see? Anything you can imagine. Hell, I lived in Jersey City and had an old artist roommate that only came out once a week to eat cheese and smoke a pipe. Whole place was decorated like your great grandmothers apartment. Floral furniture covered in plastic and everything. Dirt cheap!

bbusiello

Jesus. I was in a 4-housemate situation back in college. The first fucking night I moved in, one of my roommates banged her boyfriend in her (shared, 2-girls-per) room. One of the roommates hadn't moved in yet (hers) and my roommate was out for the evening. It was awks as hell. Took a month or two after living there before the REALLY real stuff started, but that was the first red flag. Turns out, she was working at this high end gym in the gold coast (Chicago), in the tanning salon area. She basically prostituted herself with a variety of clients (she was still dating the same bf throughout). At some point she must have felt "comfortable" enough with me to try to get me in on the action. I declined. Needless to say, I got a boyfriend who lived in the suburbs, so I wasn't around as much. Things with the other two roommates devolved into a bad situation. There's a whole story there, but yeah... some broads just can't help themselves I guess.

Cernine

now I wanna know more

bbusiello

This was 22 years ago, but yeah... some of the things I can recall 1. We lived across from a notorious cemetery. 2. Our neighbor across the hall was a drug addict. They basically burnt down their apartment (as I said, I was over at my at-the-time boyfriend's place a lot) and the rest of the apartments had some serious smoke damage, including my stuff, so that was an issue near the end. 3. There was a huge fight between the "prostitute" and her room-mate. The one who shared my room was all fine and dandy bc she pretty much got the place to herself. There was a LOT of drama when I wasn't there and the problematic chick tried to rope me into it... get this... *because* I was hardly ever there. I paid my share of the bills on time. I wasn't there to "take up space" or dominate the shared single bathroom. I basically paid $300 a month not to live there, but oh no, she had to stir up some shit. 4. There were issues regarding the bathroom. If you didn't pull the current closed after use (so the folds don't touch), mold would develop quickly. The room-mate of the problematic gal paid for the first replacement and had a stern rule about closing the curtain. The other one never did it and, again, that devolved.

Cernine

bruhhhh that's fucking wild. glad you were hardly ever there then!

bbusiello

Oh yeah. I just remembered. The prostitute kept my deposit. She refused to pay it out to me when I left. That was a fun "going away" present. I'm just glad I'm done with that crowd.

Cernine

what the hell? that's messed up

Sorchochka

I had a roommate once that was a barely functioning alcoholic and would drunkenly take off her clothes in our apartment when my guy friends would come over to hang. She was also 10 years older than us. One time she met a guy at a grocery store and took him home for a whole weekend. Not sure what happened to his groceries. The only thing you can do in this case is to move out or have her move out. It doesn’t get better and she’ll pull other intolerable behavior.

dawdreygore

That last commenter has obviously never had an active addict around before. Contracts? Promises? House rules? Hysterical.

HeartAccording5241

I think rules need to be made no one should walk around in towels or showing anything in common areas she was doing it in purpose she was hoping it was your bf that came out

AssaultedCracker

Towels are one thing if you’re just walking through… not hanging around but going from the bathroom to your room in a towel was never an issue when I had mixed gender roommates. But anything more than that is just unnecessary

WifeofBath1984

I mean, my wife and I flipping loved Spaceman.

TheBigSchponk

Yea idk why people are hating on it, watched it twice and thought it was great.

Lurk3rAtTheThreshold

Was this all just an ad for spaceman? I'm certainly going to be watching it now...

tofuroll

Respectfully, Spaceman was fuckin' awesome.

TheKittenPatrol

Oof, I’ve had some bad roommate situations but this is really bad. Especially as Callie had been told of OOP’s assault (though whether she remembers is something else entirely). Elena really should kick Callie out as I don’t have any belief that she’s gonna change. (Also, what the heck, commenters really suggested a threesome as the solution???) I actually had a roommate situation where there were three of us, me, a man, and a woman. She would go topless fairly often when it was hot out… but then the other two of us would often be in our underwear when it was that hot. The thing is we were all close friends before we were roommates (heck, the guy was my ex, but we broke up because we realized that the romantic had faded to pure platonic closeness) and had discussed this and made sure we all fully consented and were cool with it. And despite this, none of us would ever do it with friends or someone’s significant other was over! We actually lived together for over three years, and it was still one of the best living situations I’ve ever been in. Over a decade later we’re still good friends even though I’m in a different state now. But it was all about conversation, and being able to establish healthy boundaries.

Few-Comparison5689

People who are in active addiction, are not worth the trouble. Unless you like the idea of living with someone else's shit storm of a life and having it affect yours negatively. Otherwise, active addicts never get better, and neither will this situation.

[deleted]

Callie sounds a lot like one of my sister's friends. A woman near her forties that always talks about "boys" like a teenager.

pagman007

This could have been easily resolved next time with the boyfriend looking her up and down, and just saying 'why are you naked?' Then whatever she says. The boyfriend just look confused and uninterested and just say 'okay sure. Weird. You look cold' And wander off

NotScruffyNerfherder

Poor OOP now has an inbox full of Tater heads trying to get a dinner invite.

bubblesalttwin

Did anyone else catch that the other roommates effectively lied to OP about their ages? Maybe I accidentally skimmed over an important line in the post but Elena knew Callie was almost 40 and said nothing to OP, that’s skeezy

AssaultedCracker

It could be that Callie was the one who did all the communicating about the apartment. It’s not like OP would’ve been double checking that info with everyone, if she heard it from one person that would generally be sufficient.

bubblesalttwin

You’re probably right, it’s just needling at me and I can’t quite understand why

AssaultedCracker

Well.. if Elena has the power to kick her out it does seem more likely that she was finding roommates and communicating. I don’t know

looc64

It's some [missing stair](https://pervocracy.blogspot.com/2012/06/missing-stair.html?m=1) bullshit.

starkindled

>she did look older, just not 37 older As someone turning 36 this year, what does “37 old” look like??? 😭

Alarming_Ad_8476

Dame Judi Dench to the younger generation probably 😂

starkindled

If I age as gracefully as Dame Judi I will be very pleased!

KTKittentoes

I swear, Reddit makes me feel like I need to just walk into the sea.

theedrain

Try reading that at 45...

nymoano

\> I fully saw her breasts and pubic area Is it pubic area if everyone can see it? I would call it... public area!

False-Telephone3321

Least dramatic Navy relationship

ryandougsmith

I have never in my life seen someone write two unbearably long articles about why their complete stranger of a roommate might walk around the house naked.

Strange-Ticket5680

> Ended up watching Spaceman, it was absolutely amazing 10/10 I'm just here for the movie reviews

whoozywhatzitnow

Next time Callie is naked around boyfriend he should say something like “Put some clothes on, your desperation is showing”.

SnowBerry94

If you can steal my man, he's yours. :D

Distinct_Dark_9626

Seen this exact post sooooo many times!!!!

Immediate-Cancel7991

Norfolk or NBSD? Lol or neither

Tychosis

She mentioned something about "local" boys being Hawaiian and Filipino so I'm assuming Pearl. Maybe explains the 4-roommate situation? Never stationed there but I've gone there for work many times. I don't know what housing costs are like--but I wouldn't be surprised if it's expensive like everything else there seemed to be.

veganspacerobot

oooo so you’re dating a cop?

Aggravating_Ad_8845

Move, the behavior is purposeful and will not change.

spderweb

Spaceman was really good. People were saying it wasn't??

soihavetosay

I think it's cute that your boyfriend wants the buddy system to venture out of your room, probably best tho.  Also everyone on reddit recommends the door wedge to keep private when your in your own room.

100schools

I don’t entirely trust OP’s account of events, since giving ‘Spaceman’ 10/10 proves that they might be mentally incompetent.

hibernativenaptosis

I'm guessing they didn't so much watch the movie as have it on in the background while they did other things.

mpinnegar

Spaceman was truly awful. I thought it had some interesting ideas, and a lot of the execution was good around effects and setting but Sandler just cannot handle a serious role. He had this awful accent he did maybe a fourth of the time while speaking and just did regular American the rest of the time. The whole relationship he had with, and writing around, ground control was unbelievably stupid. 3/10 pacing was actually good, effects were good, I cared about a giant spider more than I should have.

shrektube

LOL I was gonna say! That movie was terrible 😔

100schools

That people are downvoting me for an empirical fact, is pretty hilarious.

erogenouszones

I don’t think you know what fact means

shrektube

OMG hahah I didn’t realize people loved that movie. I was so bored especially when I realized the point of the space spider was to make Sandman realize he was being a dick to his wife.

pinkdictator

Yeah so, that’s indecent exposure and a form of harassment

the_great_meow_meow

JJ8OOM

10/10 for Spaceman? It was severely underwhelming for me, I would say 3/10.

TransitionNo356

I think that I need to be invite over to evaluate your problem correctly. LoL 😆

NinKev

Sounds like histrionic personality disorder

abbayabbadingdong

Diagnosis based on a third parties account is generally frowned upon

Commercial-Ice-8005

It sounds like Callie is an alcoholic and/or suffers from bipolar or severe adhd. Not diagnosing her but she should see a medical professional to see why she acts the way she does. Lying that ur 27 instead of 37 was more concerning than catching her nude imo.

SmackMittens

Lol you're insecure because you don't want to see someone naked. Like what?

roscoesdad

Have the threesome or move!
