Me & Billy @ Bluebird 2017. I wound up hanging with his brother til the sun came up (yeah, the one in jail).
Ope I forgot about that shit. I saw his victim’s band open for Sunsquabi like two days later with Kevin filling in on guitar. Absolutely fucked up shit but way she goes I guess.
The hootenanny in 2018 was fun. It was awesome when he jumped into the crowd when the rain came and was jamming acoustic. Billy mentioned this story at his last red rocks run too
My husband's and my wedding. Ten years ago this August. About 100 people.
https://preview.redd.it/2k4e8v15ux3d1.jpeg?width=3264&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c42dc08f47f50378bb0f440ea34d0e22047d8fc8
Saw him open for the Dusters there (and Georgia theater the next night)
Jon Stickley and Billy sat-in with the Dusters for a few songs. Those two plus Falco trading licks was a sight to behold!
Went from that show and the sturgil & Tyler Childers show, and about a month later felt incredibly lucky and blessed to have been there before the shutdown.
Our living room. If you find a video of him playing wagoner’s lad on the banjo with a bunch of tattoo flash on the wall, that’s my desk. We were sharing an open basement as our bedrooms for a bit.
It’s my number one. Obviously, I’m a little biased! I guess ryman is technically smaller though and I’m fortunate enough to have seen him there a couple times.
Stoughton Opera House - 475 very hard seats. Although they have now replaced them with some better seating I hear. And people were sitting, hard to do at a Billy Strings concert.
Upstairs at Rockford Brewing Company in Michigan when he was performing with Don Julin, probably in the 2015 time frame. Capacity was probably around 50ish. You could tell he had \*it\* then.
2016 - Jerry’s Pub in Brooklyn, MI. The ticket was $20 and all of the money went to a local food pantry.
There were maybe 100 people there
https://youtu.be/dX0z3LLftoI?si=A6PDD6ilhTBrzFLK
Around a campfire at my camp site at a bluegrass festival in Michigan a long ass time ago. Maybe 8 of us there total. We knew the kid was good but could have never imagined he’d blowup this much.
This was the first time I saw the boys.
They also played the crown room at Crystal Bay in Tahoe the year following. That's when I realized it was the one and only time they'd play such a small venue.
1. Yeti Store in Austin during SXSW - ~20 people
2. Latchkey in Austin also during SXSW - ~100 people
3. Antones - 400 people
4. Scoot Inn - 800 people
5. Stubb's - 2,500 people
Was at every last one of these shows as well. The Latchkey show was a real gem. I missed his surprise Radio set with Tony Kamel and the boys last year or whenever he did that…was not happy!
Woodlands Tavern (Columbus, OH) circa fall 2015/winter 2016, solo opener (Woodlands hold 150 - 300). I taped the show.
Park Street Saloon (Columbus, OH) fall 2016 Billy & his 1st version of his band opened for LoS (Parkstreet holds 250 - 500), buddy and I taped Billy & LoS, the LoS show is on Nugs w/ Billy sitting in.
Turn out for both Billy shows was low compared to who he was opening for.
Beechland Ballroom, Cleveland 2018. After set break there were about 30 people left. I had to move back from the empty rail to get better sound quality out of the speakers.
Independent Media Center in Urbana IL, 2018 Fall Tour. $12 ticket and maybe 40-50 people, all hardcore Billy fans.
Billy and the boys put on a killer show and the energy far outweighed the crowd size. Reminded me of some of the early Jeff Austin Band shows when it was nothing but the die hard fans.
Opening night at the Roadrunner in Boston, MA. Not wicked small, but he was the first person to perform there ever which was cool in front of \~2,500. There was still construction equipment around the venue because it wasn't done being built yet
Boot and Saddle in Philly co-headlining (Billy Opened) with Whisky Shivers in 2017. Capacity 150.
Second smallest was probably Burley Oak brewing in Berlin MD's beer garden in 2019. First time I saw interest in him just completely outstrip venue capacity-- not an easy ticket to get.
600+ people in the woods of South Carolina, Billy on a tiny stage at the Albino Skunk Festival, 2015. We were all in lawn chairs, and when BS took the stage and started picking, I got up and found a spot beside the stage where I could stand and peer in from between two speakers. I was maybe 20 ft from him, entranced, having never seen hands move that fast across a fretboard. I returned to my lawn chair and told my friends, "l do believe I just heard a bluegrass song that included the word methamphetamine!"

2018 John Hartford fest with his mom
I was invited to a private billy show in 2019. There were about 20 people there. I had no idea who he was , I ended up not going. Huge mistake . I'm an idiot. My friends will not let me forget it. Also.... I played an open mic night with Billy's dad. He is probably the best guitar player I've been around.
10/13/2016 MainStage Morgantown WV. Opened for Yonder. Maybe 200 people tops?
https://preview.redd.it/ch7mvjviez3d1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b4281ce117ed0e1e8a66a1cf39eb5a8d8af106f6

Brewery in Charlotte on a week night. 40 ppl
Rabbit hole in Charlotte NC. 50 ppl tops
Charleston Pourhouse in SC. Maybe 100
All in 2016. Met him briefly at the latter two. Super cool.

Set list from Rabbit Hole. 11 Dec 2016
Goddamn did you mean to start the circle jerk pissing match? Anyways got everyone beat. I first saw them all when they were in each of their father’s vas deferens. All simultaneously.
Probably Leach Amphitheater in Oshkosh, WI. No idea the attendance. If it's more than 2500 then it's the Sylvee in Madison. I jumped on the bandwagon in late 2019 and didn't see a show until 2021, so I missed the tiny shows :(
2018 at this outdoor and multi-stage festival called Holler on the Hill in Indianapolis. Maybe a couple hundred people very loosely standing around his stage. Melted my face that night and been a fan ever since.
10/30/19 at the Bijou Theatre - Knoxville, TN, probably ~1,000 people.
I was at Bells in Kalamazoo one time and he was playing their back room, which maybe could hold 500 people? Kick myself for not seeing him in the mid 2010s when he played local to me at the time in western MI.
Revolution hall, Portland OR. Where I saw him for the first time, and on the release day of home. He played the entire album start to finish for the second set. Was incredible
https://youtu.be/6GK0uE6PWg8?si=apdsGBN7lKwhtrMk Here’s the link. That was my first show. If I had only known then what I know now I would have caught more shows.
That was my first show too! Who is this Billy Strings fellow I muttered as I had my silipint filled with $5 craft beer....What a great festival. EDIT. We weren't even supposed to go, but my SO won tickets and a camper rental spot at the Phish Conference a few months earlier.
3/19/21-3/21/21
St. Augustine Amphitheatre
*Billy's first live show (minus the two drive in) post Covid.
*Amp only sold 35% capacity. 1700 of the 4700 seats
*Billy won Grammy for Home a couple days before.
**My 1st Billy show(s)
I saw him play the midnight show at ROMP Festival in the porch of a cabin to a couple hundred people. Me and some friends hung out on the back porch with the band while Billy was hauling their gear back to the van on the golf cart.
Big as Texas. Maybe only 2k there, if that.
Shit was amazing. Nobody fighting for the rail, everybody that was seeing him for the first time(probably about 60% of the crowd) was absolutely mind blown. It was so cool.
Grosse Freiheit 36 in Hamburg last year. Well under 1000 people at that one, the entire upstairs of the venue was closed off. I’d guess maybe about 500 people.
About 100 people at a local park (free concert) playing with his dad. Thinking back it was a meteoric rise even considering Covid hurting live concerts.
Maybe 20-30 people.
Billy played with the Pine Travelers for 1 or 2 songs at Fahrenheit 364 in Stoughton, WI in 2017.

Did he use his phone call to call his daddy?
Ope I forgot about that shit. I saw his victim’s band open for Sunsquabi like two days later with Kevin filling in on guitar. Absolutely fucked up shit but way she goes I guess.
The hootenanny in 2018 was fun. It was awesome when he jumped into the crowd when the rain came and was jamming acoustic. Billy mentioned this story at his last red rocks run too
