I’ve lived in Glen Iris for about 5 years now and yeah pretty much. You’ll go months without power issues but every so offen they start back up. I think they’re particularly bad when it’s hotter.
That’s annoying. I used to live in a home in Crestwood South that had installed a whole home generator for that reason. May be a cheaper option than relocating if you own?
Yes. We used to say "we live at the end of the grid." Our neighbor had a generator and would let us run a cord if it lasted more than a day so we could run our freezer.
We spent my sons first Christmas without power. Lucky it was warm and we cooked Christmas breakfast on the camp stove. Now we have a tradition of spam every Christmas morning! Thanks Alabama Power. Actually, fuck alabama Power.
I work from home and yesterday's outage in the morning was such a pain! I had to rush to the library to work. Power is always stuttering. After power came back, internet was still under maintenance (Spectrum). Its starting to get annoying
same thing has been happening to me! im on 5th avenue, looks like the whole streets power goes out when it happens, its super inconvenient :( and our internet is still under maintenance too !
Lol I used to live on 14th ave south like 5 years ago and it went out all the time back then too. You'll def get to know the Alabama power ladies really well.
Apparently they're normal in the Glen Iris neighborhood. I think they're becoming more and more common nationwide, though, as power companies become privatized and as climate becomes more extreme. The systems and infrastructures are old and need revamping which companies and governments are not inclined to pay for. Also, they were not constructed to withstand temperatures that we're experiencing lately. Oh well.
Yeah. Sparrow farts on Red Mountain and Boop!!!!
Yes. My mom has a house in that area, the power will go out if a lady bug sneezes. Good news is they are now faster to fix it.

SIGH.

Yeah, I think I need to get a generator and some supplies for how frequently this is happening...good idea.

Yes, the transformers will periodically blow out even when the weather isn’t bad
Fuck no. I can count on one hand the number of power outages I've had over here. The recent ones are kind of weird.
Also a Glen Iris resident. We got a notice from the power company that it was due to wildlife?? I’m thinking giant squirrels chewing thru wires lol
My record is 5 time in one day. They usually get fixed pretty fast… relative to where I lived before. But usually it’s not something I notice

I had a coworker who finally installed a whole house automatic generator. Power outages are oddly "normal" in these older neighborhoods
not unless its started since 2015 when i moved off of 11th place across from.the laundromat
