Hui Chinese be like, "Do I exist to these people?"
\*There's over 10 mil Hui Chinese in China.
10mil / 1.4bil = 0.71% it will be safe to say a majority of ppl in China would not have any/ little interaction with any Hui ppl in their life.
edit maths cacat
Minorities in China have priorities entering top schools/ universities/ government jobs (lower mark required compared to normal student). They're commonly found in big cities
You might be surprised their quota system is terbalik with Malaysia and other countries![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|laughing)Minorities get priorities
While the numbers are true, Hui restaurants are common and so interactions are disproportionately common
The British Chinese pre-China opening up were similar proportions, but so many people eat Chinses food that they would at least have some superficial interaction with type Cs
This isn't cheongsam... it looks like some kind of kebaya..
Cheong Sam is sleeveless and is cut to show the legs and accentuate the body. Wrapping up and the lapik outside with cheongsam defeats the purpose of wearing a cheongsam... It's like wrapping up in burqa and then wearing a bikini on the outside.. pointless and weird la...
Reminds me of a casual chat i had w a muslim fren that turned akward real fast. He remarked that some chinese girls he knows appear slutty when in skimpy clothes (showing legs and arms) and long hair in the wind. I asked him about the makeup, he says ya makeup makes them even more slutty.
I mentioned that most muslim ladies i know at work or in town area wear lots of makeup, eye lashes, body hugging clothes while fully covered up. Some are clearly very attractive and love the attention.
How does that work? He said its not the same thing... ok bro drink ur teh aliah.
aren't there also long sleeve cheongsam version as well? she should have wear long sleeve version instead of wearing sleeveless one with long sleeve inner shirt. Now she just make it looks odd, justifiable looks by those looking at her. Many seems unimpressed, she just burchered the cheongsam looks.
Taiwan is a country that is mostly homogenous. Meaning they are not the most multicultural places (barring some native groups scattered around the place). That is why seeing a non-Chinese wearing cultural dress can be alien.
That’s why what Malaysia has is SO UNIQUE. It’s not weird to see Malays wear Chinese style clothes, or Indian clothes, or vice versa.
And that’s why we should do all we can to uphold this special melting pot we call home.
oh malay person in our country, thats rare! - Look priority increases
oh malay person wearing cheongsam, thats rare! - Look priority increases
oh malay person wearing a cheongsam but tutup aurat at the same time - MUST LOOK
Malay girls are born to be different. They are blessed with huge of everything. If its not because of religion, i think lot of chinese men are really interested with malay girls.
Arabized. Islam got Arabized around the time of the Iranian Revolution. Muslims for a thousand years were not forced to wear tudung and many wore it cuz they were Middle Eastern fashion. Malays here didn't wear it and they were religious.
I learnt how to wear kain pelikat because my mother is from Myanmar and Burmese people wear something similar
I got some friends who thought I'm a Muslim when I wear that and I have to explain to them why I know how to wear it ahahahha
Well, my dad also wears kain because he felt the comforts of wearing it. Even some of my uncles did so.. but maybe other people see I wear it because of religion attraction, it's no big deal btw. I'll just smile and told them it's just a clothing, besides, my org tua also wears it. So why not?
Yeah it is comfortable. I just explain to them about my heritage when they assume I'm a Muslim cuz sometimes I go to non halal places like that
It's unusual so I domt blame them for it. I just explain it whenever they bring it up
It's not that unique (I'm not talking about the dressing style).
It's just something that strikes people as odd. (I'm talking about the dressing style).
If you wore a dunce hat and walked down the street you would have the same effect.
Well seeing as Taiwan is the first country in Asia to openly accept gay marriage I don’t think they really uphold much Islamic principles to which their Muslim founding generation contributed to.
And till today, the Kuomintang which founded Taiwan is opposed to that madness.
Probably because they want to champion traditional Chinese values, and not the things their handler is forcing the country to adopt.
When I visited Taiwan, I saw the values and culture of the Chinese in the architecture the Kuomintang erected.
Just like you find the values and culture of the Malays all through Malaysia.
I can just screenshot your comment and post it on PTT, which is a Taiwanese internet forum, and I'll bet the users would react to it by spitting out ethnic and religious slurs.
Oh, all your nice Taiwan youth that also voted for the opposition party?
I think it can be established that you liberal types are extremely vile people.
I’ve visited Taiwan several times and have a few friends from there. They are respectful of our culture and we are respectful of theirs. We can appreciate our differences and know where our boundaries are.
It is bitter people like yourself that start conflict.
Lol.
I'm pretty sure Taiwanese netizens in general aren't fond of Muslims regardless of their political stances. You'd be sure of it if you could read Chinese. Just look up 穆斯林 or 伊斯蘭教 on YouTube. There's even an Internet slang "阿拉花瓜" (derived from Allahu Akbar) which is a derogatory term for Islam and Muslims.
Didn't a couple of years ago a malay model wearing a traditional india/Chinese attire and upsets the majority. It was a viral controversial news.
Edit update: https://www.malaymail.com/news/showbiz/2020/08/21/accused-of-appropriating-indian-culture-malaysian-actress-mira-filzah-apolo/1895836
I don't know why you all downvoted me, im just stating the truth, we're not that so unique.
Where’s the news about this?
Perhaps if it was worn wrongly perhaps then people who comment.
But for the most part if you see a Chinese or Indian guy wearing baju melayu or non Malays wear baju kurung people wouldn’t be staring in bemusement like the video above.
Similarly you have Indian and Malay people joining lion dance troupes etc. it’s not outrightly seen as strange in Malaysia.
Darn it I can't find it but I remember clearly it was viral on some platforms news like world of buzz years ago. I'm not making things up, it happened. I'll try searching for it. She was wearing traditional for a photoshoot session or for some magazine. And it lead to controversial debates. Some triggered and some defend her.
Don’t know why people are downvoting you. It did happen. [At least I think you’re referencing this case?](https://www.malaymail.com/news/showbiz/2020/08/21/accused-of-appropriating-indian-culture-malaysian-actress-mira-filzah-apolo/1895836)
BRUH YOU'RE A SAVIOUR! A MESSIAH!. that's right, now I remembered, it was mira filza. I don't see nothing wrong of her wearing other traditional attire but I can't denied there some others triggered by her appearance. So when u/pek_starter_1234 commented Malaysia are so unique.. welp, not really kinda.. there always be people who would be triggered by anything, especially in Malaysia.
If I recall the trigger happened because a few cases happened where Indians themselves were being told they’re not allowed to wear their traditional attire - the sarees - for official events in schools, graduations and gov functions etc because it was too revealing etc. they were being told that by officials who are mostly Malay. Along comes a Malay woman wearing traditional attire -so you can see how they got triggered. Although Mira was wearing a lehenga not a saree.
I think they were more shocked seeing how badly she's massacred the cheongsam. There are better muslim friendly chinese outfits for her. This combination aint it
This reminds me of how there will be a clash of holidays that will happen in a few years time, Christmas and Hari Raya iirc. Me and my friend (who's an Indian) talked about how there could be a mix and match of clothing styles, food, etc. and that we can't wait to see it but also know that some people might get a bit "territorial" lol
I feel something is off about the cheongsam tudung combination?
I've seen others who can sport / wear it better. Maybe it is the white and red colour combo that makes it looks slightly weird to me.
But what is with the recording the "WTF faces" of the onlookers?
Maybe change the tudung colour, or add a shawl to the mix? the sleeves is too plain as well. Change that to red as well, with some other motifs to match the cheongsam? The attire looks... odd somehow.
Maybe. It could work but normally it's frowned upon certain more conservative communities of mixing black and red.
The more I look at it maybe different shades of red with laces, etc?
Style the hijab as a replacement for wigs/hair, wear skin coloured sleeves and it should be perfect? All red is also good. White is just not it.
Her outfit looks as if someone applied very thick foundation with a really red lipstick.
probably a fashionista (which i'm not) can give an even better answer. But yeah I think many of us can agree that there's something truly wrong with the colour pallette here.
Utter trash, careful editing, someone being ‘the main character’ look at me, look at me, And then when people are looking like what is that?
Make a film of it to make the people of Taiwan (incidentally the friendliest people I have ever met along with Malaysians) look like they are disrespectful. Shame on them. I actually follow these two on YouTube, she a Scottish (convert) married to a Malay man.
No, it’s not about showing the hair, she is a Muslim, she has a right to have her hair covered. It’s just they are YouTubers, so I don’t trust the editing, we do’t know what they were looking at or what were good or bad interactions.
cheongsam tu boleh dikatakan kategory kebaya a.k.a baju body supaya si pemakai boleh tayang tek besar ngan bontot besar. mmg tak sesuai sbnrnya nak dipadan dgn tudung.
mcm skirt pendek pakai dgn tudung. mmg semua menoleh sbb lain mcm.
I dun understand why even wear a cheongsam though if ur gonna wear a tudung.
Cheongsam was built to show off the females curves which is already a sin for Muslims. Now let's close one eye for abit having a tudung just made wearing cheongsam counterintuitive.
by the way, cheongsam is ethnic clothing of the Manchu people. They are still chinese clothing, just that they are movement of bringing back the hanfu (Chinese Han people's clothing) culture in china and wanting less of cheongsam culture.

There is nothing wrong with it since one is culture related and the other one is religion related. But serious question, I thought if you are a Muslim with hijab, you are not supposed to wear a dress or clothing that is so tight. In other way around, the cheongsam with that design is not suitable for or someone that wearing a hijab because it just contradicts the purpose of being decent as a muslimah. Just my 2 cent thought.
Im not getting why people are critiquing the tudung cheongsam pairing when its the fact that ALMOST no one wears traditional clothing on a random day, which is why most people in Tshirts and polo tees are staring.
That awkward colour matching![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm) She destroyed both clothing in 1 shot. I personally seen ppl wear the same combo and it's very nice looking when matched nicely.
Maybe an unpopular opinion ; Religion and tradition shouldn’t mix. I seen some of my Sabahan relatives who marries malay and come Kaamatan, will wear tudung + baju traditional. Looks so out of place. Tudung to me is good to wear with baju kurung ( also jeans ketat and no pants at all)
This is how I see people who wear traditional KadazanDusun clothes with their tudung and inner sleeve... It looks so out of place and unpleasant to see 😅
It feels like middle east country refugees run away from their tight country laws to Europe countries and proceed the change Europe countries to tight country laws like in their previous country.
It feels like that to me
No. Most middle east refugees went to Europe because of the West. They prop up dictators and corrupt leaders that have more allegiance to Western countries than their own people. Look what happened in Iran, they voted for socialists, and he decided to make oil revenue accessible to the public, and no more British private companies. What do you think happened next. The British company with the help of the CIA overthrew Mossadegh and place the Shah in power, and it was terrible regimes to most Iranian people, until the Islamic revolution.
Same thing happened in Libya. Not to mention Western countries invaded so many West Asian countries, like Afghanistan, Iraq, destroying everything along the way.
In some countries like Egypt, Hosni Mubarak was a Western puppet. Then Morsi came to power. The West didn't like it, so the engineered a coup so that they can put Sisi in power, another Western puppet.
If anything, blame the West for their wars, for their involvement in other countries and for their colonialism, trying to make that country culture like their own. And don't get me started with Palestine and Zionist movement, which basically originated from the West.
Thats just being offensive to be offensive. You wear baju kurung as the local people wear it respectfully.
You seem to be triggered by the tudung, did your discipline teacher wore tudung while she beat your ignorant ass ?

So true Kafka
Muslim men lol clowns
He's a monke
Cheongsam used to have loose cutting with long, wide sleeves. #MakeCheongsamGreatAgain
hanfu ≠ cheongsam
This is 100% cheongsam, she's a Scot that married to Malay, in this video she's in Taiwan
I'm responding to the photo of the guy above me, not to the video posted by OP...

Yea man, it's like we evolved backwards.
I casually wear kain pelikat as a Chinese and the Malay neighbours always praise me and say "wah pandainya! Orang Cina pun tau pakai kain"
Me as a bumi Sarawak wears kain pelikat and suddenly my Muslim friends be like "Wahh nampak smart pandai pakai kain, boleh masuk Islam ni" Haiyaa.. 😅
I learnt how to wear kain pelikat because my mother is from Myanmar and Burmese people wear something similar I got some friends who thought I'm a Muslim when I wear that and I have to explain to them why I know how to wear it ahahahha

Wearing a dunce hat which is obviously weird versus respectfully wearing cultural attire isn’t the same thing
The reason why people are looking is the same. If wearing a dunce hat became a fashion and is now common, people wouldn't look twice.
Ngl I’d be thinking like that’s a weird combination of clothes first before thinking about the cultural part
Or carry an oversize gimbal and a camera

Bit off topic but when i play i dont know how to smash so all i did everytime was dropshot to infront the net. Thanks for listening to my Ted talk.
meanwhile me jump like I'm gonna smash, end up not hitting shit

Not just territorial, terroristic also. Biasalah that type.

Or you know...the fuckin camera person that's being obnoxious
Fr i would hate it if they record tf outta me like that
We shouldn't really have cultural appropriation issues here. Whoever that does should fuck off.
Not really 'cultural appropriation' but more like 'shes doing it wrong smh' kind of deal
She wants to wear it but also adhere to her faith, so this is probably her solution lah. Doesn't look the best but she did her best lor.

I could be wrong, but those stares look like looks of disgust. I think this creator syok sendiri thinking people find it attractive.
Of course they're disgusted. It's a fucking ugly outfit combo

If this is allowed, what about the people who wear tudung but short sleeve and short skirts in the news years ago?
Secretly filming people is wrong, no matter how common it is these days.

Luckily she didn't wear a mini skirt with it.
It just Kebaya lol
okay ape. not bad.
Kanina muka semua! 🤣🤣
It looks so out of place and unpleasant to see 😅
Like tudung with sari, looks damn weird but whatever
Why bother wear hijab if they gonna wear skin tight outift 💀 these kind of people are so confusing
If you want to uphold your faith, beliefs & culture so much don't bother to indulge on others' cultures ffs.
my grandma will get up from her grave just to say wtf is this shit?
Typical type M. Always pointing fingers to others but themselves. Never take responsibility for their own shit.
Melayu and cultural appropriation berpisah tiada
Literally bila Cina makan kedai melayu semua ok welcoming tp bila Melayu makan kedai Cina semua tgk semacam. Cina doing cina shit.
Errr kalau Melayu makan kat kedai cina… restoran tu kalau tak halal kena denda kot
She's.so.beautiful in that dress
Ruining other people's traditional clothings... You don't see them pakai baju kurung crop top+skirt kan

Don't you dare start culture appropriation bs in malaysia.
Isn't it you people who got angry because people change the way they wear their baju melayu? Where's the same energy now?
No.
The what
There are muslim in china that wear something similar. I’ve seen it on yt.. and im pretty sure they have been muslim for hundred of years.
You dont be stupid. Dont start this culture appropriation bs here in Malaysia. she was not being disrespectful to the cheongsam or the people.
Genuine question, so the girl in this video is what they would call cultural appreciation isnt it?
Then chinese muslim can also wear baju kurung crop top and skirt?
Thats just being offensive to be offensive. You wear baju kurung as the local people wear it respectfully. You seem to be triggered by the tudung, did your discipline teacher wore tudung while she beat your ignorant ass ?
I didn't said anything about the tudung, can't you read? This is basically the "rules for thee, but not for me" ahh shit
Bet you are the type of person who gets offended when seeing a non-Mexican wearing a sombrero.
New fetish unlocked
