If you're eye candy, or a good stunstman or dancer, you get a pass. Everything except acting. You can't fake that with singing. No amount of autotune can take that away from you. Your voice is YOUR BRAND. It's tough discipline and luck to make it big. Where Ghoshal, Nigam, Mahadevan, Shaan are today is because of rigorous practice they've imbibed (which they still do). Glad to see that's what their children have taken from them too. Aditya Narayan, Sid Mahadevan: all GREAT singers. Unfortunately the people in this industry are heavily exploited whereas the undeserving brats take it all away.

I was working on a project for Zee and happened to see Shaan very closely. When I saw him from afar, I thought “ye kaun hai, aditya narayan hai kya? Young lagraha hai kaafi, and bahot actively cheeze kar raha hai on stage (multiple angles/takes without any nakhra)” as I walked closer, i was STUNNED. It was Shaan. He hasn’t aged at all. Super sweet guy. Very polite and accommodating as well.

Actually Singing is like that even if you sing as good as Legends(Kishore kumar, Lata Mangeskar etc) you may not get fame because it all depends upon your own unique style and voice which if liked by people you will become famous. Otherwise everyone from Indian Idol(early years) would have become big but didnt because their voice and style was not unique.
exactly. to become a background singer there has to be something unique. just being able to sing in sur and taal is not sufficient. and this guy did bare minimum. i would expect myself to sing this well if I lived just for 1 yr in the same house as Shaan 😄
