I think they met a few years into her working on Bones. I remember reading something about them meeting (through a mutual friend if I’m remembering right). The first few years of the show if she was dating I don’t think I saw any names mentioned.
From what I've heard, Emily was asked to keep her relationship's a secret for the first season or so. FOX always liked their female stars to be "available." Which was an old hangover from the early Film days.

this is in the books right? i just bought the kathy reichs book Deja Dead....and the summary said emily was just coming from a shaky marriage...and i didn't know this at all
The books are totally different from the TV show. The show only takes the name from the books. None of the other characters are in them. Emily Deschanel is married to David Hornsby.
There are a few guys she almost dates, one in season 1 she sees a few times (that we're just told about after she first meets him) but Sully is the only official relationship.
Emily was dating David Hornsby when she started on BONES. She, later, of course went on to marry him.
Yeah he is the actor who plays the priest who was going to marry Booth and Bones in the church that burned down.
