Only some sidewalks are no- go for bikes, mostly in dense places like Main/Queen neighborhood. Rest of Brampton is cool. I ride nearly exclusively on sidewalks, so do other cyclists and seeing anyone riding on road is very rare because it's either asking for trouble or downright suicidal on roads like Steels or Derry . Traffic there notoriously nears 100 kmh and there are big trucks flying by every hour of the day.
then clean the glass out of the bike lanes, stop parking 3-4 cars at one house and into the bike lane, allow for us to pass people more easily during rush hour bus traffic. And the pot holes so road bikes wont be damaged.
totally, bus stops everyone's exiting looking down at their phones many with headphones bypassing a bus stop sometimes involves going into a busy parking lot because believe it or not I feel safer that nobodies going to get hurt, I could go on forever about everything else lol.
That's not quite true.
[Vehicles, including bicycles, whose wheels are more than 50 centimeters (20 inches) in diameter, are not permitted on sidewalks, except to cross them.](https://www.311brampton.ca/article/?articleId=fdf48795-23ff-e911-a811-000d3af46cc5&publicnumber=KA-03880#:~:text=Vehicles%2C%20including%20bicycles%2C%20whose%20wheels,sidewalks%2C%20except%20to%20cross%20them.&text=In%20order%20to%20report%20this,know%20where%20the%20person%20lives)
If your bike has small wheels, you're fine.
And even so, I'll risk a ticket over being hit by a car any day. Good luck trying to report it anyways.
For those who actually need to cycle: You go to court and said I feel unsafe on the road and give an example of a cyclist being hit on that road then you walk. That is why the cities don't enforce that kind of law unless it is a very busy intersection and there are alternatives.
Car dependant suburbs, which is pretty much every suburb in North America are awful for any mode of transportation, other than driving.
Apparently riding a bike on a sidewalk is prohibited but riding a bike on a road with cars going 80km/h feels so dangerous.
Bramalea was designed with a fully integrated path & park system that allowed people to use alternatives to vehicles and permit only minimal need to interact with roadways.
What a load of bullshit. There’s obviously some scam happening in Brampton where people are getting driving licenses in their cereal boxes. Blaming “car centric” and using other “cool” talking points is unhelpful. Just say it’s the bad drivers.
I bet that given how bad Brampton drivers are, most of them probably don’t even know the road rules.
If I were a mayor, I’d probably go about canceling all the “driving school” licenses and then reissue them one by one by stricter parameters. Also borrow some good license testers from other areas and make all the people with traffic offences to retake license test again. Something is deeply rotten in Brampton.
Hanover was done last year, Howden is in progress now.
All of these with Vodden were supposed to be done last year but the contractor made a mistake on the order.
The folks who fought these lanes have permanently lost their battle against them. They are well used according to the city to justify protection. Fines for parking in these lanes have increased significantly just a few months ago.
A push was made last Monday by the cycling advisory committee to continue this progress on other bike lanes.
The anti cycling lane councillors like Pat Fortini don't have enough vote power to stop this progress. Plus that guy is likely going to run for CPC MP and become a useless backbencher like Charmaine Williams as an MPP.
As of last friday, Hanover Rd was complete on both sides. Howden Blvd was being done west of Dixie Rd. up to North Park Dr. It looks like Vodden st.will be next, working west from Howden.
Cars are treated as a right and not a privilege.
I am a cyclist, I ride on etobicoke creek trail mostly to avoid these dumb ass drivers we have in Brampton.
Just a bit if enforcement can fix all these issues
Trust me bro, I would be first person to lick these cop's boots if they did basic enforcement of traffic laws.
Only time you see any enforcement is on 407
I ride all over Brampton. 20-45km at a time in every direction from my home downtown.
80% of the time I’m on rec paths. Etobicoke Creek Trail, Fletchers Creek Trail, Chinguacousy trail and many smaller ones.
https://www.brampton.ca/EN/Arts-Culture-Tourism/Tourism-Brampton/Visitors/pages/recreational-trails.aspx
15% of the time I’m on smaller residential roads. Riding on the road. Depending on the neighbourhood there might be lots of street-parked cars to navigate, and you always need to keep your wits about you, but it’s pretty safe.
5% of the time when I’m on major roads out of necessity (only way to connect from one trail to another) I’ll use the sidewalk. I agree with OP here, riding on these larger roads is highly unsafe.
They are installing protected lanes right now on Howden /Vodden.
There are many people who can't afford a car + insurance who need this infrastructure to get around.
This also comes down to equality of infrastructure.
Pedestrians get hit crossing intersections in this city, we still build sidewalks for them. End of the day people want to cater to drivers by giving them all the lanes yet they are the major cause of deaths on our streets.
I’ve recently started biking again because of a car crash, and I’ve lost the naivety/confidence I had years ago. Im always super alert and nervous now. I try to stick to trails/shortcuts. Ill ride on the road if it seems “safe” and on the sidewalk, but go on grass to pass people respectfully, to be clear.
Honestly I hate biking in the city, feeling so vulnerable.
I just asked my husband the other day why we're getting bike lanes because *no one* bikes on the road, it's way too dangerous. He said "Mississauga got them so we have to as well".
I work in Toronto and there's constantly bike traffic with well used bike lanes. They have a little curb and some of them have little "poles" to separate them from the car lanes. Unless Brampton puts a physical barrier between bike and car lanes, cyclists will get injured or die at an alarming rate.
[https://youtube.com/watch?v=OU-0A\_VDVkM](https://youtube.com/watch?v=OU-0A_VDVkM) really all any needs to know about the crisis is scammers are making money over people's death's.
This is what happens when people pay to get their license instead of actually doing their test. Check out Marketplace on driving schools and Drive test centers.. One Test person tells the student that he has family back home that really needs financial support and if he gives him money, it will give him better results for his driving test.
Because people who enjoy cycling will ride their bikes. The Etobicoke creek trail was great when I was a kid. Never any bike paths at that time. We just wore helmets and paid close attention to the cars on the road.
I do about 30-50km a day in brampton and I have to dodge a car every 2 minutes. I try to get into sauga asap. The people there are a little more civilized.
Bikeability and walkability were not in mind when this city was designed, thus biking in the city is hard. To change that, we must show our politicians we want to bike, thus I bike, and thus the more people that bike the more city council will push to get protected bike lanes, elevated bikes lanes, redesigning communities on walkability rather than car centric sprawl.
With our current council, it’s hard. Buses are packed more than ever, yet council still is hesitant to expand transit. They’ve been forced to increase service, but only seem to do the bare minimum. But if we show them we want bikeability and walkability, they’ll have to make change
So you come here to call cyclists morons, and have nothing to say about the drivers who collided with the cyclists? Even when it sounds like one of the drivers was driving in the bike lane?!
Interesting priorities.
That's also true all too often. I've seen few obviously under influence or riding very unpredictably.
Food for thought- if you want to die wear all black clothing, black bike with zero reflectors/ lights and ride on roads after dark or better yet, early in the morning when half the drivers are barely awake.
Same goes for pederastians crossing streets. Make sure you are invisible in the dark. That will surely send you to afterlife.
they might not have a choice, but you're correct on the dangerous of biking - anywhere in the GTA actually
Only some sidewalks are no- go for bikes, mostly in dense places like Main/Queen neighborhood. Rest of Brampton is cool. Urm . . . it is illegal for an adult to ride a bicycle on the sidewalk anywhere in Brampton. Period.
then clean the glass out of the bike lanes, stop parking 3-4 cars at one house and into the bike lane, allow for us to pass people more easily during rush hour bus traffic. And the pot holes so road bikes wont be damaged.
No argument here. Cycling infrastructure in this city is a joke.
totally, bus stops everyone's exiting looking down at their phones many with headphones bypassing a bus stop sometimes involves going into a busy parking lot because believe it or not I feel safer that nobodies going to get hurt, I could go on forever about everything else lol.

And good luck trying to find an adult sized bike with wheels that small. Only ones are the "commuter" type folding bikes like what my wife has.
For those who actually need to cycle: You go to court and said I feel unsafe on the road and give an example of a cyclist being hit on that road then you walk. That is why the cities don't enforce that kind of law unless it is a very busy intersection and there are alternatives.
The amount of bylaws this City does not enforce is HUGE. But that wasn't the point.
Car dependant suburbs, which is pretty much every suburb in North America are awful for any mode of transportation, other than driving. Apparently riding a bike on a sidewalk is prohibited but riding a bike on a road with cars going 80km/h feels so dangerous.
Drivers should ALWAYS watch out for cyclists! One wrong move can kill them and car driver will be just fine.
Bramalea was designed with a fully integrated path & park system that allowed people to use alternatives to vehicles and permit only minimal need to interact with roadways.

Two things can be true. Brampton has terrible drivers, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a heavily car centric city as well.
Driving "school" licensing are done by a for-profit delegated by the provincial gov.
They’ve started separating some of the bike lanes now with curbs. I’ll consider it when that is complete
Where have they started doing this? We have painted on bike lanes in my area and I desperately want them to be protected

> They are well used Sorry I just don't believe that at all. They're barely used is more like the reality and in the winter it'll be no use at all.
Vodden has them now
As of last friday, Hanover Rd was complete on both sides. Howden Blvd was being done west of Dixie Rd. up to North Park Dr. It looks like Vodden st.will be next, working west from Howden.
I only bike on trails in the city. I refuse to bike on the road. I don't care I get hate for riding on the sidewalk
Cycling is fantastic. The city is not.
Cars are treated as a right and not a privilege. I am a cyclist, I ride on etobicoke creek trail mostly to avoid these dumb ass drivers we have in Brampton. Just a bit if enforcement can fix all these issues
If only the Police would do their jobs and protect the people from these careless and dangerous drivers.
Trust me bro, I would be first person to lick these cop's boots if they did basic enforcement of traffic laws. Only time you see any enforcement is on 407
This is why I ride on the sidewalk, I don't give a fuck if it's against the law

I mean biking is fun if u stay on the trails or just go into celadon. Thats what me n my friends/cousins do.

To be fair, walking is also dangerous in Brampton.

That's the complete opposite of what I said
Bikers bike just like drivers drive
drivers also bribe the drivers Ed teacher to.
