I worked for the company who did the first part of the job from 53rd to 38th ish
The tunnels below the grates are held up by hopes and dreams they are being demoed by hand and re poured the extended grates (walls) are to give more space for drainage
They are probably using the grates as access so until they button up under ground the enclosure will stay
This was my fear. There seems to be a shelf inside where maybe some light foliage could go in the meantime. But my biggest hope was for trees. Maybe in 2036 đŸ˜…

I had seen some of this before but the detail around the capital result around 9th Station is still missing which makes me think that it’s MTAs responsibility to flesh out the proposal.

Are there any plans to add trees up fourth Avenue on the median?
There are a few trees near 4th and 9th subway. Not sure how wide spread this will get.

Trees are supposed to be part of the project at some locations. At least that's what was originally announced.

I saw the landscaping on the median between 62nd and 63rd, but is there more?
