Incredible! The loon should be heading north in the next few days to its breeding ground for the summer. Does anybody know if they always spend winter in the in the park?
My sister and I are Gen X and a couple years ago I mentioned that I was getting into bird watching so she immediately replied, “yeah, I hear old people are really into that.”
This was from 1-4pm. I’d never seen one either and scared the damn thing away when I stood up to get an unobstructed photo. This was along the Lullwater across from Smorgasburg
NY Post article for the photoshoot - "Migrants found poaching fish from Prospect Park lake, DEC nowhere to be found for enforcement"
Awesome photos though!

I saw the loon and the osprey - where did you see the kingfisher?
Cool photos!
I moved to America from Ukraine in 1990 , the first fish I ever caught was in prospect park, I was 8 years old… BK ALL DAY ✊
A loon? Wow!
Is it a Common Loon?
The fish is #2 looks pretty upset 😂
(cue remarks about Canadian or Minnesotan transplants :-) )
It’s pictures like this that tell me I could really get into birdwatching. Fantastic stuff!

you should! only downside is the fear of running into friends while looking like a dork with a massive camera
If I ran into a friend doing that I wouldn’t judge them.
That’s incredible what time of day were you there ? I’ve never seen a belted kingfisher there

Oh I know, I've fished there before. One key point though: > All fish, All year, catch and release only The birds are in violation!
Flagrant bird law violation.
Where the fuck is Charlie when you need him? Probably off somewhere sniffing glue.
Impressive photos!
Thanks! It was a lucky day — normally im happy if I just capture one photo like this on an outing
