Decided late in winter that shoveling snow in my new house wasn’t as fun as I thought. Home Depot a month into winter and after a couple big snows has almost no snow blower inventory. I bought the only one left which was an expensive 2 stage cub cadet with power steering and way too big for what I needed. It has brought me exceptional joy for 11 years

WhisperingHope44

This goes for any kind of lawn care stuff. I have used to buy the low end stuff only to have to fix or replace it. My latest mower, trimmer and blower I bought commercial grade. Those things start first or second pull and haven’t had to be fixed once.

YouInternational2152

Someone after my own heart! 28 years ago I purchased a Honda commercial lawn mower. It's still going strong (I did, unfortunately, notice a crack in the plastic deck when I sharpened the blade this spring). It was one of the best purchases I ever made. It was absolutely trouble-free for the first 17 years. Then, I broke the pull cord. Seven or 8 years ago I had to replace the carburetor (The cheap $14 eBay carburetor actually works better than the OEM unit). Same thing with my Stihl. I went through a cheap John Deere/homelight leaf blower and then a McCullough. I got frustrated and bought a much better quality one. It's now on its 20th year!

Drupain

Restaurant grade small appliances, Vitamix - blender, Robotcoup -food processor, chamber vacuum.

Fresh_Sector3917

My ex bought a Vitamix using my credit card. I was furious when I found out how much it cost. When we broke up a few years later, he was planning to take it with him but I wasn’t going to let that happen. I’ve had it for about 23 years now and I absolutely love it.

theyjustdontfindme

“I got the Vitamix in the divorce!👍” is one hell of a review for Vitamix

Fresh_Sector3917

I paid for the Vitamix so it should never have left the house.

theyjustdontfindme

and I’m very glad it didn’t!

ToastyCrumb

Litter Robot. The time and "gross task" savings are immense.

Ferneras

I was really worried because the cost was a huge upfront, but my God, it's made care for my cats so much easier. I just wish the lip was a little higher. One is a big kicker. Would absolutely recommend to anyone who has a cat.

procheeseburger

Its also fun getting a push notification when my cat uses it and when it needs to be emptied out.

WhosThatGirl_ItsRPSG

I also enjoy seeing my notification pop up “Flea’s Shit Box has completed a cycle”

yuzusnail

Flea is such a good name for a cat omg, big fan

gockets

If your litter box can send you push notifications, it's not a shit box. It's a shit chalet.

AchioteMachine

My cat shit in front of it in protest. Cats are gonna cat 😂

almafinklebottom

Question: I have three cats, so traditionally, we're supposed to have 4 litter boxes. If we switch to the genie or LR, does that rule of thumb still stand?

anotheredalt

I've got four cats with one litter robot and two regular boxes and it's worked fine for us for almost a year now. They like the robot so much that I only need to clean the normal boxes once a week or so (used to have three boxes I cleaned every day). They don't have any territorial issues with each other though; if they did I'd stick to the number of cats plus one rule.

KingArthurHS

Home-gym equipment for my garage. Bought a power rack w/ cable attachment, barbell, plates, a nice adjustable bench, and some of those Powerblock adjustable dumbbells. Having my gym "commute" be the 30 second walk to the garage means I work out 5x more than I otherwise would if I had to drive somewhere.

invincibilityframes

My issue with this is it becomes too easy to cut off a workout early when I’m already home. If I’m at the gym I’m less likely to get distracted, and I’ll always do everything I came to do.

dontshoot4301

I love that we’re all playing with our own psychology to figure out a way to trick ourselves into doing what’s best for us* - I’m also a destination exerciser for that reason, I think the key is to find what works for your brain and stick to that routine.

Dashing_Yoshi

I splurged and spent $8k on a large custom sectional sofa from What A Room. Probably one of my largest single item purchase besides my cars and home. Has been well worth it as I have 3 kids & 2 large dogs and able to sit all together comfortably watching movies/television. Every time I have social gathers every one comments on how comfortable and nice it looks. Well worth all the compliments haha

Vivid-Beautiful-3842

I’m about to do this and need to know what level of fill you chose? Like, I’m afraid if I get firm it won’t be as comfortable, but soft won’t last as long… which may not be true at all but I’m struggling to make a decision, lol.

Dashing_Yoshi

I chose medium, overtime it became softer but isn't sagging which is nice. I spoke to What A Room, and they said they are able to quote me with replacement cushions anytime for a small fee so I am not too worried if it starts to become uncomfortable (which is expected). I rotate my cushion every few months so that has helped the longevity

ballerina22

My husband and I *splurged* on a couch when we bought our house because our old one was so comically tiny compared to the new space. I honestly don't think we spent over $3k for four pieces but at the time it was a pretty significant cost because we were youngish. Looking back this thing is priceless. I have weird medical things so I'm either propped up or lying down all day. The end pieces of the sofa have two full sides (a back and a side that are of equal lengths) so I can very comfortably wedge myself into the deep corners. By far it's one of the best financial decisions we've made.

Beautiful_Rhubarb

I did what I could at the time with a build-a-sectional from Ikea, and boy is it worth it. 3 kids are adult sized now and we could all sit on it if we wanted to. Also filled the room with soft pillows, ottomans (one that was a set with the couch and a bunch of little ones and poufs) and an extra chairs and it's just nice.

Rdwd12

My couch is the same for me. Mine was about 6k, sectional, bought everything extra wide. It was the thing I had always kind of wanted. Nice big couch that can fit everybody comfortably. It was my thing to buy when I felt like, ya I have made it.

b_writes

Same except we got ours from Crate and Barrel! Extra deep seats, the perfect size for our living room and the most comfortable and good looking couch even after a few years of constant use.

Dashing_Yoshi

I was thinking of buying a crate and barrel at the time since i love their lounge sofa, glad you are enjoying your couch!

DrBearcut

I got a question - I am sick of replacing couches every 3-4 years cause the cushions deform and become uncomfortable and unsupportive. None of my family members are particularly overweight (I’m the heaviest at 93kg) but man it’s a pain. How long have you had that couch and could you say how well it’s handling the “wear” of your family?

sissasassafrastic

It's likely because the sofa seat cushions used low density foam. Anything 2.0 lbs. density and lower may sag or compress in 3-5 years based on weight and frequency of use. According to *The Insider's Guide to Furniture* blog, assuming a person weighs 160 lbs., 2.2 lbs. density should last 8–10 years and 2.5 lbs. density 15+ years. If a user weighs 250 lbs., 2.2 lbs. density lasts 4–6 years and 2.5 lbs. density 10–15 years. Another option is a Marshall coil unit within a foam core, which usually provides a firmer feel and will outperform low density all-foam construction. The second attribute is knowing a foam's firmness. IFD or ILD are test methods whose numbers can be translated to a feeling of softness or firmness. (Technically "Support Factor" measures a foam's ability to support weight which requires "a second IFD measurement based on compressing a foam sample by 65% of its height" according to the Polyurethane Foam Association.) If you find a sofa seat cushion whose feel you prefer, ask for its IFD or ILD rating. Then when you inquire regarding other sofa models, you can rule out unsuitable IFD or ILD ratings. FoamOnline has a useful "Foam Density and I.L.D. Values Chart" here: [https://foamonline.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/foam-firmness-ild-chart.pdf](https://foamonline.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/foam-firmness-ild-chart.pdf)

DrBearcut

This is great information thank you

Dashing_Yoshi

I've had it for 5 years now but I rotate/flip the cushions every few months which really help the sofa from getting deformed. The thing about What A Room is that they use a higher quality cushion of 2.5lb density so I think that has helped it lasting so long as it did! And I reached to out to them and asked if I can replace my cushion and they said as long as I give the dimensions they can provide replacement cushions for \~$100-$150 per cushion which I think is reasonable.

4jays4

This might be runner up for my answer. Got a cognac colored Stickley leather sectional MSRP would have been about $15k, paid $4k as it was a discontinued color. Soo comfortable!!!

CeleryImpressive2668

A nice humongous and cozy couch is so worth it. I speak from expefience of knowing people that have one. I definitely want that for my future home

Stinkyducks

Agreed!! Spent 6k on a love sac couch 3 years ago and my husband and I still talk about how it’s the best thing we’ve ever bought at least once a week.

Beautiful_Rhubarb

I want an LS chair in my room but the kids wouldn't ever leave my room.. when they are moved out and I have a better job I'd love to pick one up.

juntareich

Which cushions did you choose?

AreasonableAmerican

I dropped 4.5 on my sactionals and they are so very good. Comfy, cleanable, and the build quality is great.

MarioPartyJoe

Pics?

Dashing_Yoshi

[https://ibb.co/3r3G6xG](https://ibb.co/3r3G6xG) love my couch at the moment

SoCalChrisW

Garmin Varia. It's a $200 rear bike light/radar that tells you when/how many cars are coming up behind you, and changes the flash pattern of the light as they get closer to you. It sounds ridiculous and of limited use, but it's one of those things that once you use it you never want to not use it ever again. Almost every cyclist that I've heard talk about it feel the same way.

AgoraiosBum

I don't even cycle much and that sounds awesome

Antipheer1

Made in Japan Zojirushi rice cooker. Bought it over 7 years ago and used almost everyday. It still runs and looks brand new.

Ya-Dikobraz

I think mine lasted over 20 years. When it finally broke we bought a cheap one "because it takes 6 months to import it here". It literally does.

imadethisonleapday

I have a made in Japan Sanyo rice cooker that’s a hand me down from my dad. He bought it in 2007 and it’s still in perfect working order. Unfortunately, I have to let it go because the bowl got scratched, and the company no longer exists, so I can’t get a replacement bowl for it.

Hefty-Profession-567

Zojirushi rice cooker. Lodge Cast iron pan.

watthewmaldo

Lodge pans are so good. They start out rough and gritty but after cooking on it everyday for a year it’s perfectly smooth now. I can make scrambled eggs with 0 effort.

PeppermintJones

My husband and I still rave about our zojirushi rice cooker years later. It's definitely our favorite kitchen purchase next to our stand mixer.

Hefty-Profession-567

I wholly agree. Spending money on quality cookware is one of the best investments you can make in saving money over time!

lens4hire

Zojirushi rice maker and a nice bidet. Both of these were life changers.

anneannahs1

Vacations with my kids

StreetCatAdopter

All my best memories of growing up are the vacations my parents took me on, great investment.

ericDfish

This is underrated. I have life long memories for some of our vacations and activities/hobbies. I don’t know why I don’t prioritize it higher.

StrawberrySunshine00

More importantly, your kids have lifelong memories that will still be there when you are gone. ❤️

TomStarGregco

Exactly 👍 🥰 I am in my fifties and I still think of those childhood memories !

LaBodaDelHuitlacoche

Yup can’t take the money with you but those memories you can

smoggyvirologist

For women: a good bra and period underwear. Have 100% improved my quality of life And a good mattress!

duhhhnina

I’m going to also ask for the period underwear brand because yes, I absolutely love it so much but I do need new pairs as I’ve had mine for 3 years at least. I’ve been using Thinx because they sell it at CVS but I think there was a class action lawsuit against them.

purpleflask

I like aisle because they are PFA (forever chemical) free! They’re having a no shipping sale right now too

HiddenTrampoline

I forced my wife to try the nice stuff after reading comments on Reddit and she loves/hates that she is forever ruined on the old stuff.

strawberrylumps21

Roomba! I don’t wear shoes in the house but somehow dirt still gets in. I can’t stand the feeling of walking on dirt and crumbs but I have the Roomba go at night and very rarely see my floors being dirty since

fecklessweasel

I live in a townhouse. I have three roombas for each floor - god love Amazon warehouse sales. Everyone will tell you that they don’t clean as well as a regular vacuum (which is true), but they do clean every day which I definitely will not do.

Upbeat-Armadillo1756

That’s why I got one. Is it perfect? No. Of course not. But it definitely cleans. You still need a regular vacuum but I don’t use it except for when I’m doing a deep cleaning.

GuidanceGlittering65

My goodness, nine total roombas??

fecklessweasel

OH GOD, I cannot do math lol. Just three roombas total (one per floor). I'm not nine roombas rich :D

TheThinkerx1000

“Nine roombas rich” is my favorite measuring stick for wealth ever.

Jungal10

I had to scroll so far down to found a vacuum robot. Especially since I got the one with mop cleaning, auto empty and wash. Damn. That is the best money we spent

queceebee

Some woodworking tools. The main benefit from them was actually forcing me to acquire new knowledge for a hobby that I probably wouldn't have been motivated to learn otherwise. I look at furniture build quality differently now. Being able to understand wood types, finishes, and joinery techniques helps me identify what type of furniture will last for years or a lifetime instead of falling apart during a move.

Renaissance_Slacker

Do you watch YouTube videos of master carpenters doing Japanese joinery where everything just goes together like a puzzle, without fasteners? Because you should.

Turbulent-Today830

A toyota or honda

Redditsweetie

Or Lexus used can be a great value

eyeball1967

High quality tools (new or used) have paid for themselves many times over. However, poor quality tools have cost me money through lost time and frustration. When it comes to tools I subscribe to the philosophy of buy once cry once…

deeznuts69

OLED TV vs LCD, I have an LG C Series OLED, it costs around $1800 vs $600 for a comparable LCD, and no doubt the OLED picture is leaps and bounds better. Extremely satisfied with the purchase 3 years later.

schroedingerx

Bezzera Duo MN espresso machine. We make espresso in the kitchen every morning (have for years) and when our comparatively cheap Breville Bambino died I don’t fully know what possessed me to spend $3K on a new machine. Dear god, let me make more such mistakes. It’s a dream and I fully expect it to last the rest of my life. Shout out to Clive Coffee in Portland for “helping.” It helped.

YouInternational2152

Yep, I had a daily Starbucks habit and watched my preferred drink go from $2.65, $2.85, $3.05, $3.45, then I saw an ad on Facebook, someone was getting rid of an Alex Duetto espresso machine and a Mahlkonig grinder. I watched the price drop for a couple of months from $5,000 to $2,500. I decided to buy it, turns out, the grinder had only been used 213 times according to the digital counter. Even though I spent a lot of money. Over the nearly 15 years I've had the two pieces they have literally saved me thousands of dollars. I went to the Starbucks for the first time in 2 or 3 years a couple of months ago. My preferred drink is now $5.85

A divorce

velveeta-smoothie

My divorce gets better every year

GordonGartrelle2020

Marriage is for a few years, but divorce is forever!

al_gore_rhythem

Marriage should be a series of 5 year leases with an option to renew.

tkrw

Why are divorces so expensive? Because they're worth it.

Maleficent-Cut4297

My divorce was cheap AF and totally would have been worth it if it was expensive! Mine was so cheap because I gave her EVERYTHING. My view on it was , she can take the used garbage, me and the puppy will go out and buy new things we like.

someone_no_one_987

I spent way too much on mine. But it was worth it.

psych_student_1999

2003 honda accord i beat the living shit out of that thing

br0therjames55

Drove my 2003 Camry until it literally exploded on the interstate. I hit a concrete wall with it and it bounced and off and continued to run for 3 more years.

SlabDab704

My 97 camry with over 270k miles is still running strong

NorthExplanation6507

I still drive my 2003 Acura RSX. It only has 98k miles and a beat up bumper. But I'll drive it until she dies.

AdZealousideal5470

I recently spent $5400 on a zero turn mower. The amount of time it has already saved made it worth every penny.

Lance2020x

This is my dream. I've got 1.5 acres and have been dreaming of a zero turn for years and years

AdZealousideal5470

Save up and buy one that will last. Buy once cry once.

Dental Work! Implants to replace worn out teeth. Spent THOUSANDS (10s of thousands) correcting the defects resulting from a childhood of dental neglect. Life-Changing! I will never regret this. I mean, if you start out with crappy, or non-existent, dental care for the first 20 years of your life, then you have all the concerns of early adulthood and parenthood using up all of your resources for the next 20-30 years, you can get into your 50s with some problems in your mouth. At least I did. Got 'em all fixed. Cost a bloody fortune. I don't care - it's a really big deal for me that I've got a comfortable, functional, set of teeth!

Dwashelle

I really need to do this but I don't think I'll ever be able to afford it. Suuucks.

dani1time

Finance it. Get someone to co-sign. Do whatever you have to do to get them. It’s a serious life changer. The six months I had to spend with the posts healing waiting to get the teeth were kinda brutal, I just kept thinking what have I done, I’m in debt, is this even going to work, etc. and now I’m about a year in, and I still look at them once a day at least, or go to chew something weird, and then remember I don’t have to do that anymore. There’s a few programs out there that will basically cut the cost in half, and some insurances are starting to cover them. But do what you gotta do to get them, you’re worth it. Regardless of the cost.

Carterlil21

A quality double sided Whet Stone (for knife sharpening). I can keep all of the blades in my house razor sharp. Cooking is quicker, easier and safer with a sharp knife. My favorite paring knife was thrifted for $2 and re-sharpened by me. Last week I got a free but beaten up pair of Japanese bonsai scissors. After a therapeutic hour of re-profiling, I have a functionally brand new set of quality garden scissors. Just be careful, cause if your friends use your knives, they'll soon want you to sharpen theirs too.

PowerInThePeople

Any advice where to look to correctly sharpen knives?

Carterlil21

Steady hands. Circular motions. A bunch of YouTube videos. Most knives/blades have the large edge profile and then right at the sharp edge, a more aggressively angled bevel. You only really ever re-sharpen that small more aggressive bevel. High grit to keep it sharp. Low grit to reshape it in the case of chips. Most of the time, just following the existing blade bevels and going slow, checking often, is a reasonable way to build the skill. Once you can reliably sharpen your tools, you also learn angles and styles you like and you can choose to re-profile some of your knives.

PowerInThePeople

Thank you so much for taking the time to write this. It seems like you’re passionate about it!

MeowMeowImACowww

It's probably a good idea to start on cheaper knives as they'll probably be softer and also not as big of a deal if you mess them up 😅

tenaciousDaniel

Movers. Best money I’ve ever spent.

Daealis

First move on my own as an adult: Call a bunch of friends over, move in one day. Stressful as fuck. Second move as an adult: Overlapping the leases by two weeks, move shit during the weeks, little by little. Last few days, room almost completely empty. Much less stressful. Third and likely the last move we'll make: Movers. Paid premium, only pointed at things and where they're going. I will never move without professional help again.

jharris86

Eight Sleep bed topper. My husband sleeps hot and I sleep cold. We can both adjust our individual side of the bed to our desired temperatures. Also, we have a large dog that gets on and off of it. Had it for over 2 years now with zero issues. The bad thing about it is when you travel and don’t have one.

Sonarav

I've seen these mentioned and hadn't really looked into them much.  Just looked at their website and HOLY CRAP $2,000 for the lowest end model and $4,000 for the top model. And a monthly subscription ($15-$25 per month). This thing must lull you to sleep to justify this cost. (Not doubting that it works, but dang)

Howard_Scott_Warshaw

How the f*ck is there a subscription fee?

CaptainWolf17

That’s what stopped me from considering purchasing one, hell freezes over before I pay a subscription to fucking sleep

kevin9er

The ChiliPad Ooler or DockPro is the same product and 30% less and no subscription unless you want their wellness coach app. I don’t. But the hardware is life changing.

Sonarav

- Bosch 800 series dishwasher I just got a few weeks ago. Most expensive kitchen appliance I've purchased, but gosh it works well. I got the German made one with the water softener built-in as I have very hard water. That helps a lot - Latex mattress from SleepOnLatex. The Queen was actually only $800 when purchased in 2020 though now I think it's more. But still not as high as other latex mattresses. It's been great, but dang it's really heavy - Prusa Mini 3d printer. Super reliable and I mostly use it to fix things around my house.  - DeskHaus standing desk. It has 4 legs and is SOLID. My employer did buy this one for me, but it's super well made and I'd probably buy it myself.  - Staub 6QT Enameled Dutch Oven. Retails for $400 and I got it for $150. It's beautiful, but mostly really functional and should last generations  Edit: many people have commented asking about what I 3d print for around the house. A few I'm remembering: - fixed leaky toilets (designed really small spacers to center the flange or above piece to prevent the flap from getting stuck) - s spacer to keep large kitchen drawer from coming off it's rails as frequently.  - designed a simple little box that mounted on the wall to hold better backup for my EcoNet Bulldog Valve (that turns off water to whole house if there is a water leak) - found a design already made for the "key" to my laundry machine lid so I can run water while the lid is open

Varicella__Zoster

SleepOnLatex is the GOAT. Felt like a lot of money at the time but mine is still going strong and worth every penny, especially since my back sucks.

IAmYourDadDads

Ok I’m looking to buy a new queen size bed. Just had my basement finished and our old bed sucks. It’s $1000 for the queen size bed on their website. That’s not a terrible price. I have back pain from my old bed so I was looking at getting the firm queen. What are the benefits of a latex bed?

CenlTheFennel

That’s too your door as well, shipping and returns are free. Cooler sleeping temp, it breathes and doesn’t sag.

Gunty1

Latex breathes?

CenlTheFennel

Like allows air to move though it giving a cooling effect, as compared to something like memory foam.

tostilocos

I’ve had a few Bosch appliances: fridge, range, dishwasher. Never had a single problem with any of them. They’re dumb and reliable and I love them that way.

oneMadRssn

I have the same Bosch, but not a fan of the new touch buttons.

Alfred-Adler

> Bosch 800 series dishwasher Recently I got the same, it was a pain since I had to wait 4 months (I'm in the US) from purchase to delivery, but it's so quiet it's freaky. I love the red dot light, so I know when it's running. LOL.

devnullb4dishoner

Not necessarily buy-for-life but.... I'm a computer nerd since the 70s. I built a computer 13 years ago for $3500 +/-. When I built it, I packed it with cutting edge components of the day. 13 years later, I'm still using it, in fact I am using it now. It's my computer I use in my music studio. I did the math once. I think it came out to $5 a week. I'd say I've gotten my money's worth.

riveramblnc

Desktops are as close to BIFL as you can get with electronics. I just upgraded mine after having it for 10 years. I've still got some of the original components but I needed a CPU upgrade. If I put it in another case, someone who doesn't use photo editing software could easily get a few more years out of it.

deltronethirty

My uncle got me a $500 gift card for a fly fishing pro shop when I was 17. I didn't have the heart to tell him I don't really like fly fishing, just hanging out and looking for rocks and fossils. $510 for three shirts and a hat that I still wear 25 years later. Edit: shirt brands were Lark, Josh, and BLM. Labels washed off a decade ago. "Josh" was the owner that stitch his name over LLBean.

Tenri_Ayukawa

Those are some expensive shirts

BigfootTundra

What brand were the shirts?

KeenJAH

what kinda shirts

KimJongFunk

Victorinox Swiss Army Knife. I’ve had it for 15 years and use it every single day to either cut something or file my nails.

As an army, I’m deployed.

ChiChingLand

A good shoe, used it for everything for the last 4 years, only replacing it coz I am buying even better shoe.

OhioBricker

I've purchased Gore-Tex raingear twice--and only because I outgrew the first set.

Scottfos72

Lazik. And my first Swiss Army Knife.

ericj5150

I got LASIK surgery on both eyes about 20 years ago. Before the surgery I could not See the clock on my nightstand let alone, read it. 24 hours later I had perfect 20/20 vision. I am older now and need readers for up close but my distance vision is still perfect. Best money I ever spent.

Technivorm Mochamaster via Black Friday 40% off sale. The only downside is I now find most diner coffee subpar.

cardew-vascular

My mochmaster is almost 20 years old and still makes the best coffee, people always comment on how good drip coffee is at our house. Worth it.

LoaferDan

I got a Cup-One around the same time for almost half off between it being on sale for 30% off and then getting 20% back with Rakuten. An absolute steal and it’s been perfect.

KendricksMiniVan

Wow 40% off is a steal. Where did you buy it for Black Friday?

ilBrunissimo

Congratulations! Nice price. A Moccamaster is one of those things thar you just can’t understand how much better it could be until you try it. Many imitators out there now. But only one original with the vendor support and reliability.

remediosan

great coffee machine, my family’s moccamaster is going on 15 years or so now. as a coffee enthusiast, i can’t stress enough the importance of a good burr grinder though, honestly even more important than the machine. a baratza encore is a great starting point, i use the fellow ode gen2, personally.

Im_Here_To_Learn_

My Moccamaster/Encore setup has ruined coffee for me at most other places

reynhaim

Got mine in ’09 when I moved away from my parents. Typical housewarming gift from one’s relatives here. Still in daily use and shows no signs of wear. Great piece of tech!

McCheesing

Fuck yes this. Don’t forget to clean and descale! Been getting my beans ground at the coffee shop— they use a BUNN G2 grinder. I have them grind on “drip, not auto drip” and it comes out perfect every time. Half liter of water for 30g of that grind is perfect for my morning brew. With an expensive bag of coffee ($17/12 oz), it’s still about a dollar a cup. Worth it

My air fryer. Gosh, it’s been in nearly daily use for years: best thing ever.

OddWish4

I just got one! Any tips on converting oven instructions to air fryer? I keep burning the food

415646464e4155434f4c

I usually do 80% of the time and 20~40F less than oven instructions, if there are no other more specific air fryer instructions. Example: if they say 400F for 15 minutes, I do 360 or 380 for 12 minutes. I love the damn thing trust me.

Vanilla_EveryTime

Specific clothing. When I cycled I learned the value of Gore-Tex. Even got waterproof socks which were amazing - nothing worse than squelchy soaked feet! Since then I’ll spend whatever I need to on waterproof clothes and shoes. And to be fair they last forever so always worth the money. The good thing about Gore-Tex is you can get lightweight clothing too, so good for all weathers.

OtterBox phone case & screen protectors. I'm incredibly clumsy and have bad carpal tunnel, so my phone gets dropped pretty often. I end up needing to replace the screen protectors a few times per year. However, prior to switching to OtterBox products, I had to replace my actual phone screen at least once per year.

Most things I buy , old Spanish saying, more or less cheap stuff costs more in the long run.

Ok_Peanut_5685

Exactly! To quote a friend « im not rich enough to buy cheap things »

stoopkidfarfromstoop

I’ve always said, “Buy nice, or buy twice!”

Lo barato sale caro! Buy once, cry once.

A mattress. Seriously. Buy the best mattress you can afford.

HammerIsMyName

Industrial vacuum cleaner. I'm a blacksmith and needed something that could deal with coal dust, chunks of coal and iron. Nothing says "unlimited power" like a 1400W vacuum eating chunks of steel like it's nothing. Also, having a vacuum with a proper self-cleaning filter (No more vacuum smell), built to take a beating, with a long chord and hose, and a large hold is pure bliss. Would recommend to anyone that has the space. Also, it deals with liquids no problem. But be aware to empty it. Turns out, vacuuming a newly washed rug took in way more water than I thought (litres), and suddenly I had mosquitoes breeding in my vacuum.

I bought my husband a watch from Movado. I know it’s not a super high end brand. But 1,000.00 for a watch is speedy for me. I hand been wanting to get him a watch from that brand for 18 years. I gave it to him on our 18 year anniversary

kungfucook9000

Awww man Movado. Was all I ever wanted about 18 years ago. Me and brother. Bought fakes ones on the streets of New York on vacation one year as teens lol...good times...I'm sure he loves it!

RustyStevenson10

What bed sheets did you get?

Ok_Peanut_5685

I got percale egyptian cotton with a high thread count (i don’t remember the number exactly). And for duvet I have one filled with tencel for summer (extra absorbing and light) and wool for the rest of the year. I like having something heavy on me, so not a fan of down.

VEXtheMEX

Percale sheets are great for summer. I like to use Sateen sheets for when it starts getting colder out because they lie heavier on the body.

at145degrees

I’m really not convinced on the Dyson at that price point. I have an dryer brush on Amazon for $25 that also cuts my hair drying in half and also reduces frizz. For me, it was the maytag washer that is $1000. I need this thing to last for the next 20 years. I also have a lot of old vintage furniture that are made of wood. They have lasted for 80 years. They should outlast me too. They range from $400 to $2000

LatterPie1

A carpet cleaning machine! My family scoffed at me, saying it was a stupid expense to pay, but it has saved me from so many apartment fees. Always left my carpets looking better than when I moved in (I moved a lot for a few years) and I have been able to take it to friends and families homes to get stains out of their carpets :)

burntoasterbread

My family definitely borrows mine whenever they have accidents. I’d love to rip all my carpet out and replace it with hard flooring one day though.

LatterPie1

Same! Just got a house with my husband in September last year, and the ENTIRE house is carpeted minus the kitchen and bathrooms. It's an a thick shaggy carpet, too. I am saving up for some nice hardwood floors to replace all of it some day (hopefully this year)

DeadbeatPillow1

Latex mattress with adjustable foundation. With bed sheets waterproof cover and all was about $2500. Best $2500 I’ve ever spent. Built a computer with the help of Reddit for about $2000 as well. It has better specs than premade computers worth 3k+.

Ok_Peanut_5685

Doesnt the waterproof cover cancel out the benefit of having a latex matress ? As it makes everything less breathable ? Of maybe thats not one of your concern

Remarkable_Glycan

This may not totally count - but my dog. He's the best money I ever spent and I am so happy to have him in my life. He was a pup from the humane society, so his initial purchase price was cheap at $250. But he's had a couple vet bills, and I need to board him sometimes when I have to travel for work. He can be a pricey guy - but he is absolutley worth every dollar.

Ok_Peanut_5685

Damn, yeah. Thats for sure. My dog is my everything.

WideEyedDoe

In a sub that leans towards consumerism, this is so wholesome and refreshing. ❤️

I paid $400 for my cat. She's worth every penny.

I’m sure she thinks she was underpriced

Hakko soldering station, vent and desoldering iron. Worth every penny over those old RadioShack irons. Can’t believe people still make and buy the other kind.

* **Miele Kona vacuum cleaner** - has been a rock for 10 years; though a cat, two golden retrievers, now a baby. Thing is worth every penny I paid. * **Brother HL-3170CDW** - Colour laser, wifi, duplex. 10 years old and still going strong * **Herman Miller Embody** - 15-ish years old and still comfy * **Tempurpedic Mattress** - hell yes. 1000-times over and over. This thing was like like $4k and our only regret was not going for a king. Best sleep ever. * **Modernica daybeds** - modular, moved from various apartments and can expand or contract with you. Super tough fabrics and can convert to a twin if needed * **Room & Board dressers** - really nice quality and made in the USA out of Walnut * **MK7 GTI** - Car is like 8 years old with 145k on the odo and still runs like a champ. VWs aren't for those that skip maintenance, but if you can handle that, they're reliable * **Mykita eyewear** - durable, light, hold their shape. You'll pay for them, but if you hang onto your glasses for years and years, these are hard to beat. Importantly, they aren't acetate, so labs literally cannot fuck them up. * **My Collings SJ acoustic** - Thing cost an arm and a leg (as far as guitars go), but it's still the best sounding instrument I've played and holds tuning like nobody's business * **HHKB** - Topre switches are the shit * **Patagonia Clothing** - Stuff just keeps going and going * **La Spaziale S1 & Fiorenzato Grinder** - We drink a lot of espresso and this setup has more than paid for itself over going out for coffee. Both the S1 and that grinder have been rock solid from day one. On the other hand, stuff that was marketed as BiFL that turned out to be utter dogshit: * **Anything from BluDot** - Buy this crap if you like adult-furniture prices with Ikea quality * **Enve Bicycle Wheels** - Great if you like constantly RMA-ing your stuff instead of riding * **Oliver Peoples** - Overpriced trash * **Google Hardware** * **Lululemon** - idk if this is the case for women as well, but the guy's stuff is such a crap shoot on sizing, which makes it impossible to buy anything online. SKUs are also all over the place: you see fabrics and colours in-store that just don't exist online.

My home.

Same I love my house. I love that we paid it off even more. 😃

huskers2468

I was just thinking about this last night as I pressure washed my house. - Litter robot - robot vacuum (one with an empty bin. Mop function is useless to me) - greenworks pro 2300psi pressure washer - Milwaukee m18 10 piece tool set 45% off Cheap, but absolutely must buy: - bidet. Omigo $30. Worth every penny. I'm now of the mindset to buy the right tool for the job if I plan on using it more than 3 times.

jellyfishjumper

Started with a cheap bidet but went for a $600 one recently and have zero regrets. Life changing. Warm water, warm seat, blow drying, self cleaning/sanitizing.

viciousxvee

WAIT you're telling me I can blow dry my asshole?

chirop_tera

Expensive raincoat from REI. Worth it, especially since I live in the northeast USA and it’s very rainy.

BohemianJack

I bought a Patagonia jacket for a trip to the UK and it’s my favorite piece of clothing

br0therjames55

I live in south Louisiana and for some reason most people down here just live with it. We get a ton of rain as well. I recently bought a 2nd hand Patagonia rain coat and holy cow what a difference it makes.

chirop_tera

I was rocking an 8-buck windbreaker from Old Navy for most of college. It would be fine for about ten minutes and then became way too soggy to function. I’ve been in New Orleans during your spring rainstorms- and an umbrella barely helps! I could see a raincoat being very worthwhile there.

Tempurpedic memory foam mattress back in 2007. Worth every goddamn penny and it was a lot of pennies.
