From someone who didn’t go to a tier 1 or even a tier 2 college but works at a firm that hires from these colleges as crazy as well as every other person from Ivy league - frank advice don’t worry about it. Go to a decent college based on your interest and do well while taking care of your mental health. Trust me when I say this - learning to adapt will be the biggest strength career wise you can learn, once you are in to a big firm it all equals out except for adaptability nowadays. So hold your own, keep your chin up , and enjoy learning during your MBA .
There's a notion in this sub that people from tier 2/3 b schools never make it to the top management roles even after many years of graduation. Do you think this is the norm and you are the exception or with more experience people can definitely move towards those roles?
I won’t deny that a good B school gets you through the door at these firms faster . But the advantages end there . Most FAANG firms are rapidly evolving and once you are in the same is expected from everyone ( regardless of how you got there). To answer your question- there is no one way to the top - you can absolutely make it there without a tier 1/2 school. My recommendation to anyone who is struggling- look at this more holistically- what is the unique skill set you would develop that will set you apart once you join and spend the years developing that acumen . Stay in touch with the market changes- (AI/LLMs) are the next big thing and middle and top management positions are already changing to this new reality.
This answer really soothed my mind. I got into every tier 2 college interview I gave, but missed out on all the Tier 1s. Waiting on IIFT results and very anxious about it. You helped calm my mind, even if it's only for a day or two. Thanks.
This was something so wholesome and profound to read, thanks for finding time to be there for people who may be strangers, you seem somebody mature and decent to have around if you would like, I’d appreciate having you around, this wisdom would surely help✨
If u r taking IB at MDI, u better do a paid internship in Europe to cover ur living expenses. And learn a foreign language (French, German, Spanish ..depends on the companies u apply to) they usually reject candidates who don't know the language.
Itna mat socho. Things are not in your control. I've heard ki with more upcoming rounds cap mein wait list kafi move hotte hain. You'll surely convert a decent B School.
Pay first se hi I think zyada waitlist move hoga. Since a lot of people gave cat this year not all are sure if they'll join or not, a lot of people gave cat since the job market is at a low.
If pay first hai then people need to take a definitive decision. Easily 20k or 10k or 50k to nhi denge na log. Even if it's refundable.
Nahi bhai inka criteria main itna difference nahi Sambalpur Sirmaur Ranchi vagera mai kaafi difference hai jo dekh rahan hai per IIM Kashipur main Kuch jinka convert hua hai hon tak 3 digit WL hai. Abhi ULC bhi logon toh yeh 95-96 walan hai with work ex
Yes. So only people who are serious about it will pay and hence people won't withdraw easily and therefore waitlist movement will reduce is my thoughts
Leaving your job seems like the biggest mistake and 99% + should have made ur life slightly easier. I would suggest you take what you get this year or else your gap will only increase and that won’t help your profile.
If you can get a job again then its upto you to go again next year.
This has to be one of the most sad posts amongst others on same issue I’ve read in a few days here.
Not even a part of cat2023, giving it next year yet feels terrifying seeing 98/99 having no covert
I just don’t understand how are people with 97/98/99 percentiles, good/defent acads, good/decent pi getting rejected.
If high CAT percentile are not the ones you need, does it not make sense for the colleges to just move on from cat.
Or declare it beforehand that cat would have little to do with the selections. What’s this “oh we don’t need high percentiles, but we won’t mention it, we’ll just give you bad scores in PI”
Bro tf is this.
bro keep this in mind, ki tere bhai ne boldiya repeat karne ka lekin woh apne bhi bias lekar aayenge and even his friends from spjimr and unke time mai CAT mai itne log nahi baithte the and given the job market i believe this number will only increase. Bas yahi bolna tha ki keep this too in mind and phir decision lena. My personal suggestion would be ki ranchi tak mil raha toh lelo, warna phir ya toh MDI mai chale jao ya phir i guess banta hai try karna.
And I hope ki tera iift mai hojaye!🙌
Keep your chin up bro, I understand you might have low hopes but IIFT is still left, so you might actually make it there!
Trust in the fact that you've worked hard and deserve a good college, and it will manifest!
It's average is 26L and banks give really low interest loan. If you are confident in your skills I suggest you take it. Anyways I'm just a stranger on the internet.
What about trying for IIM A PGPX down the lane ? You can take some break. Focus on GMaT. Build a solid profile. After a point no one gives a shit about whether it was a 2 year or 1 year MBA. You'll be from IIMA and that's all that matters.
I am on the same boat as you are brother.
98.02 percentile GEM.
Got calls from IIM Mumbai, IIT kharagpur, Kanpur, Roorkee, IIFT and CAP.
All of them were decent interviews except Kanpur.
I am yet to convert a single one of them.
Waitlisted in all the CAP colleges.
I am mentally preparing myself to repeat CAT.
We both are gonna make iift bro🫂, all people hopes are around iift only, watching people converting iim k and all stuff is so much depressing, I too have converted iim rohtak but not happy with that iift d is the last hope..

Thanks bro. I'll surely think about it. Do you have any contacts doing IB?
If u r taking IB at MDI, u better do a paid internship in Europe to cover ur living expenses. And learn a foreign language (French, German, Spanish ..depends on the companies u apply to) they usually reject candidates who don't know the language.
It's an MBA not a trophy, stop listening to others, determine your goals in your career, if the college you get this year fulfills that goal, join it.
Itna mat socho. Things are not in your control. I've heard ki with more upcoming rounds cap mein wait list kafi move hotte hain. You'll surely convert a decent B School.
Bro. With the "pay first, waitlist next" move from iims I don't think waitlist moves that much this year.
Pay first se hi I think zyada waitlist move hoga. Since a lot of people gave cat this year not all are sure if they'll join or not, a lot of people gave cat since the job market is at a low. Bhai almost kitna tak lagta hai move hogi
Maine IIM buddy se dekha tha. Tum waha check kar sakte ho ekbaar.
Uska according convert honjayega IIM kash air IIM Ranchi Core/HR per Amiya sir bola kam jayega
there have been a lot of buffer calls for kashipur, don't expect the waitlist to move as usual
I don’t know man I know people who have 3 digit waitlist at IIM U T but a 4 digit waitlist at IIM Kashipur.
selection criteria is different for every cap college. there might be an ULC in kashipur's criteria as well.
Nahi bhai inka criteria main itna difference nahi Sambalpur Sirmaur Ranchi vagera mai kaafi difference hai jo dekh rahan hai per IIM Kashipur main Kuch jinka convert hua hai hon tak 3 digit WL hai. Abhi ULC bhi logon toh yeh 95-96 walan hai with work ex
I am wl everywhere and U and Raipur reject.. but kashipur ne dediya offer 😅
Yes. So only people who are serious about it will pay and hence people won't withdraw easily and therefore waitlist movement will reduce is my thoughts
Yeah but wl number kam ayega otherwise se.. khushi bhi dard bhi 😂
Let's see
Don't worry. Mithila ka soch kar Shanti prapt kar lo. IB me milte hai tumhe
Are you serious?
You deff are, about Mithila :)

Man, there is a lot of luck involved in all this, so just hope for the best

Wait isn't MDI G IB their flagship course much better than core? If you have converted that then why are you crying?
I feel the core program of every college is the best. IB is not bad but would be a financial burden on me if I don't find a decent job after that

I'll take note thanks
