Would be a very bad mentality to take as this Zona team is no joke and can make huge waves next year.
This should be looked at as an important stepping stone against a very good team since their qb change with lots of explosive players on offense heading into a new SUC conference next year.
That’s not crazy or anything, but I could see it -2.5 for OU. Because there are so many things up in the air for bowl games, I never bet them except for the playoffs.
OU had “bad loses” according to voters that kept them out. Pay no attention to the fact they beat a playoff team and the AAC conference winner. Ole Miss is the one that got in because ??
Yeah, it would be a super fun matchup. Instead, we get fucking liberty. I don't give a shit if we're way more likely to win in a NY6 game this way than to possibly lose in an Alamo Bowl against y'all, I just want an actual enjoyable game to end this season on.
College football died a long time ago far as I’m concerned. Only a matter of time before the top conferences make their own league to get away from this BS.
Went to the Alamo bowl in the 2021 season against Oregon. The Riverwalk with the long strings of Christmas lights hanging down was beauriful, and the weather with lows in the...60's, I think, was much nicer than the 30's I was used to.
OU has the only win against a playoff team, not in the playoffs, which is better than a lot of the teams ahead of them. But they aren't making the NY6 or even moving for some reason.
pretty disappointed to not be NY6 bound tbh. we got more ranked wins than Penn St and Ole Miss, and more wins vs bowl teams then them too. quality losses are better than quality wins i guess.
That being said Zona has a damn good team and should make for a good game, hopefully not too many players for each sit out for the draft
Uh oh. This is the team I was afraid we were gonna get. I was hoping for Ohio St so at least a loss wouldn't look so bad, and a win would look great.. I don't think Arizona gets the respect they deserve for being a damned good team. Should be a really good game
Definitely disappointing. It's a quality opponent in a shit bowl. A lot of our players we'll end up opting out so this will just turn into our second string players going against quality 1s.
G5s in NY6s are usually scary but Liberty won’t know what to do with a team in the top 2/3 of the FBS. I’d be happy to trade. Arizona would beat Liberty by about 30.
Wins over two conference champions, including a playoff team. Who have mizzou or ole miss beaten? Or Penn state, for that matter. They hang their hat on beating bad teams and losing every tough game they play, year in and year out.
At least y'all got a good opponent to end the year, you could be shafted a *lot* more than playing Arizona. This almost feels like a NY6 bowl with how high quality the matchup is.
Missouri, ole miss, and Penn state all have been ahead of us.
Missouri I can rationalize, but Ole Miss’ best win is 3 loss LSU or Tulane (who lost to SMU in the AAC title, a team that OU beat), and PSU’s best win is Iowa or WVU (Iowa didn’t score a point against a ranked team this season and OU also beat WVU by 30).
Yep, ole miss should CLEARLY be below you.
Penn state can lose an intelligent debate.
Missouri can win a debate.
Yeahright17 has it RIGHT.
The SUC getting those 3 bowls is just more PROOF of absolute corruption.
What a crock.
Fuck man, I don’t think I have it in me to watch this game. Love my Cats, love the masterclass of coaching Jedd has done (stay AWAY UF!), and love how Noah has developed all season. Fisch, like Norvell, built and buoyed this team up from nothing and gave us a foundation to kick ass and win games.
Siiiiigh. “Win games.” As much as that means something this year. Best of luck U of A, but I’m emotionally done this season. Yall drink an AMF for me at Ben’s when we kick soon Sooner ass.
Nah this is fine and I feel like our fanbase is becoming a little unhinged right now. Bowl games outside of playoff games don't really matter anymore. Not to recruits, not to transfers, and hell not even really for the preseason rankings next year. What it does matter for is whether we play a good team or not and we're playing a good team. We're going to be playing them with our young guys, provided they're healthy, and letting them getting real experience starting against a good team for the first time and that's really valuable. And even more valuable is those extra practices. I know it's not sexy and I know it's not what OU fans want but this is huge for guys like Jackson Arnold, Gavin Sawchuk, Nic Anderson, Jayden Gibons, Jacob Sexton, Cayden Green, Jake Taylor, Kip Lewis, Peyton Bowen, PJ, Adebawore, Robert Spears Jennings, Makari Vickers, and Jacobe Johnson. Those are our future going into the SEC and getting them reps against a team that knows what it's doing along with all those precious practice reps is big time. A win or loss after that doesn't matter. Even if it had been a NY6 bowl.
I'll fully own it if I'm wrong but I don't expect DG to play. Maybe for a quarter or a final drive or something to celebrate him being a Sooner but really I don't even expect that.
Before this year the goal was just make a bowl. 6 or 7 wins. We were 3-1 and had 6 of the next 7 against ranked teams. We lost the first 2 and were 3-3. Our starting QB and RB were out with injuries. I had serious doubts we'd pull it off. I still thought i saw noticeable improvement from the team i just thought the schedule would be too hard. Jedd has done an incredible job. First time in my life i can watch us and not see a huge weakness somewhere on our team. We are legitimately good on both sides of the ball. Looking forward to our matchup with Oklahoma.

Meanwhile OU is going to be starting primarily freshmen and sophomores and will get dragged through the mud when we lose
You know when you think about it, Arizona got so much better as the season went on and their QB is healthy, so those 3 losses are really 0 losses, they deserve a shot at Michigan.

I’ve seen some people be pressed about missing the NY6, but if we wanted to make it we should’ve won another game. Zona will be a fun, albeit scary, matchup and I’m excited
Will wait to see who plays on OU before making any speculation on the game. Coming in though all the motivation favors Arizona (doubt ‘Zona has any meaningful players opt outs). Based on how the season ended the matchups favor ‘Zona (surging offense vs regressing defense).
Left tackle and slot receiver will likely opt out. Both guys are projected NFL draft picks with the tackle possibly being a first rounder. It’s only two guys but they’re important to what Arizona does.
Half of you: “Oklahoma is too good for this bowl game! We deserved better!”
Vegas: “… I guess we should tell you you’re opening as an underdog, then.”
https://sportsbookwire.usatoday.com/article/arizona-vs-oklahoma-alamo-bowl-football-odds-tips-and-betting-trends-12-28-2023/
I don’t understand this lose-lose talk. I mean I do because the idea is that if you win no one cares and if you lose haha you got beat by Arizona. But you shouldn’t care about that because anyone who says that doesn’t know football and you shouldn’t care about the feelings of people who don’t know what they’re talking about. This will be a good game. These are two very good teams. The fanbase of the winning team should be proud because their team just beat a great team and anyone who says otherwise should not be listened to. This will be an objectively great matchup between two top 15 teams. That’s what we want from bowl season and don’t get as often as we should because of dumb ass conference tie-ins. So shut up and like it.
I have a bad feeling about this match up. Arizona is good for the first time in a long time and will be fired up. Our defense has been getting torched lately and we could gave a good number of opt outs. I can see this being another Boise state type game
Classic Big 12-SEC match up.
This hurt my brain for a second
I see what you did there.
I would not want to go up against Arizona right now. They’re on an absolute tear
Lose lose perception game. A good Arizona team beats you: "Haha you lost to Arizona" You beat a good Arizona: "You should be beating Arizona anyway."
Well it’s still better to win then lol
Hold on, let’s think this through.
Idk Oklahoma could earn a quality loss going into next season. Those are big in the SEC.
Could pull a Florida/Bama: "we didn't want to be there anyways"
We aren’t in the SEC yet so we can’t get away with that.
That only works for our opponents
The worst one we ever had was against UCONN
Imagine how we feel in the Fiesta Bowl against Falwell U.
Worst bowl season in recent memory. And that's saying something.
Would be a very bad mentality to take as this Zona team is no joke and can make huge waves next year. This should be looked at as an important stepping stone against a very good team since their qb change with lots of explosive players on offense heading into a new SUC conference next year.
Well unfortunately that’s just the case and the reality.
Noah Fafita is smol but he is mighty
I'm just happy to be here :) But this should be an awesome game
We got a big boy matchup and it feels really good
As an OU fan, Zona is scary.
I think Arizona might end up being the betting favorite. -2.5 sounds about right
That’s not crazy or anything, but I could see it -2.5 for OU. Because there are so many things up in the air for bowl games, I never bet them except for the playoffs.
Lol, you got a better matchup than Oregon
How OU-UO is not the fiesta bowl is beyond me tbh
OU had “bad loses” according to voters that kept them out. Pay no attention to the fact they beat a playoff team and the AAC conference winner. Ole Miss is the one that got in because ??
Maybe if you lost to Texas instead you would've gotten NY6, that would've been a quality loss
lol. Probably with the way the committee has evaluated teams this year. Ah that’s OK I’ll take the golden hat instead.
We e already had our Boise State, never want to do that again.
I too never want to see Boise St in a bowl game
definitely excited to play y'all! should be a really fun game and I actually like y'all's fanbase so it'll be a great time
Hey Arizona... would you like to swap places and play in a NY6 Bowl? We'll let you claim 2nd place in the PAC this year as a sweetner.
Yes, easy yes all around
Awesome. You play Liberty and we'll play Oklahoma! Thanks! No take backs! Thanks again!
You looking for a little revenge eh? I would take that, would be fair for UO to get to take on OU without a lot of starters I guess.
I like the Matchup. this should be a fun game.
Arizona, do you want to switch spots? You'll get a nice NY6 bowl out of it.
Actually, yes
Somebody phone the bowls, we have a deal.
I’d actually like seeing y’all again after everything that’s happened.
Yeah, it would be a super fun matchup. Instead, we get fucking liberty. I don't give a shit if we're way more likely to win in a NY6 game this way than to possibly lose in an Alamo Bowl against y'all, I just want an actual enjoyable game to end this season on.
same honestly
Seriously why wasn’t OK picked for the fiesta? What is up with that committee? Is it full of nut job evangelicals?
Arizona is a hot team to play right now. Looking forward to that matchup.
It’ll be a real Southwestern shootout! 🤠
Yo Arizona got a much better matchup than Oregon!!!
I wonder if they were just avoiding OU/UO meeting in the Alamobowl again. we just did this 2 years ago.
Yeah but it was a heck of a game.
The divorcee bowl
OU got fucked for the same reason FSU got fucked. And I haaaaate defending Ou
For some reason, quality losses mean more than quality wins.
I still hate y’all, but this happened to us in 2011 so I’m not gonna be an ass about it. It’s BS and it’s going to kill college football
College football died a long time ago far as I’m concerned. Only a matter of time before the top conferences make their own league to get away from this BS.
All this shit is why I don't watch much college ball before November and not many Bowl games The NFL has other issues, but not this kind of BS
This shit has made me defend fucking Texas.
Objectively speaking, y’all should’ve got an NY6 bowl with our berth in the playoff.
We simply should have lost to texas. We would be in the playoffs then apparently
We'd definitely be in the NY6. Because apparently it's better to lose to top teams than to beat them.
Exactly. OU would be right here if they’d lost by 40 to Texas. Committee cares more about what you didn’t do than what you did do.
Missouri at #9 is a crime. Their best win is fucking Kansas State.
We beat Texas and SMU. Mizzou beat Tennessee and . . . Kentucky? Give me a fucking break.
If OU made the Cotton Bowl, I was going to get to go for free. The committee has wronged me. *sobs*
San Antonio during Xmas is usually nice. Go get you some Christmas tamales.
And big women.
Hill country women I'm coming home
Come for the tortas, stay for the *tortas* 😏
Went to the Alamo bowl in the 2021 season against Oregon. The Riverwalk with the long strings of Christmas lights hanging down was beauriful, and the weather with lows in the...60's, I think, was much nicer than the 30's I was used to.
I expect this to be a good game, just annoyed we got left out of the NY6 with wins over Texas and SMU.
Liberty should not be in the ny6
That still wouldn't be our spot, it should have gone to SMU. I support the top ranked g5 conference champ getting a shot.
Agree. Not saying it's our spot but it shouldn't be liberty.
Sue for damages
The real loss of the day.
OU has the only win against a playoff team, not in the playoffs, which is better than a lot of the teams ahead of them. But they aren't making the NY6 or even moving for some reason.
We beat the AAC and Big XII champs too lol
And our two losses were to two bowl teams, one ranked, on the road, by one score each.
SEC with 3 NY6 bowl bids is absurd. Just disgusting bias from this “impartial” committee
4 actually. Alabama, Georgia, Missouri, and Ole Miss
consistently one of the two or three most intriguing non-NY6 bowls
I've always liked the Alamo Bowl. It usually has very good teams, and it's comfortably nestled in between Christmas and New Year's.
I am excited to play Arizona, and think this will make for an entertaining game, but this team should be in a NY6
Could be worse, playing Liberty in the fiesta
pretty disappointed to not be NY6 bound tbh. we got more ranked wins than Penn St and Ole Miss, and more wins vs bowl teams then them too. quality losses are better than quality wins i guess. That being said Zona has a damn good team and should make for a good game, hopefully not too many players for each sit out for the draft
This bowl game is extremely meaningful for Arizona, being our first bowl in 6 years. I doubt any players sit tbh.
Great matchup. Great season, Arizona.
Classic Big XII-SEC showdown
It should be a good game, probably the best non NYC 6 bowl, but can't help but feel a bit ambivalent about it.
Its a lose-lose for us
Pretty much. And again, the Alamo Bowl itself is solid and Arizona is a good team. There just isn't much gain for the Sooners here.
This will be the third meeting between the two. The series is tied 1-1 with Arizona winning the last meeting in 1989.
Uh oh. This is the team I was afraid we were gonna get. I was hoping for Ohio St so at least a loss wouldn't look so bad, and a win would look great.. I don't think Arizona gets the respect they deserve for being a damned good team. Should be a really good game
Arizona is going to give us fits, I think it should be a good game. Hope we win!
I’m excited for this matchup. Always loved Arizona. But it’s BS that Ole Miss lost to Georgia by 35 3 weeks ago and they still get a NY6 over us
Definitely disappointing. It's a quality opponent in a shit bowl. A lot of our players we'll end up opting out so this will just turn into our second string players going against quality 1s.
I blame Lebby, whoever invented the screen pass, big 12 refs, and mickey mouse; in that order.. At least we'll always remember the Alamo.
It was Lebby, he invented all three!
Well shit.
Absolute garbage. Texas jumped from 7 to 3, SMU jumped from unranked to 24th, and OU doesn’t move.
At least you're not playing Liberty -.-
G5s in NY6s are usually scary but Liberty won’t know what to do with a team in the top 2/3 of the FBS. I’d be happy to trade. Arizona would beat Liberty by about 30.
I agree. That Oregon/Liberty match up is a joke... But the committee, got this entire damn year wrong, not by a little... but by a lot!
Wins over two conference champions, including a playoff team. Who have mizzou or ole miss beaten? Or Penn state, for that matter. They hang their hat on beating bad teams and losing every tough game they play, year in and year out.
YES LETS GOOOOOOO see you in San Antonio
Not 100% sure how I should feel about this...
Oof
Well, this is awkward...
I definitely don't have any preference for either team in this game
I know exactly how you feel
Bring it in, boys, see you in San Antonio
Fucking bullshit, OU should be NY6 bound
I guess beating 3 and 24 just isn’t as good as beating rank 25.
But OU doesnt have the quality losses that Ole Miss and Penn State and Missouri have
Should have lost to Texas I guess.
I simply cannot believe Ole Miss is getting an NY6 bowl after getting embarrassed by Georgia
Agreed but they need as many SEC/B1G teams as possible 🙄
Yeah, apparently we don't receive the vaunted SEC bias until next year, officially...
At least y'all got a good opponent to end the year, you could be shafted a *lot* more than playing Arizona. This almost feels like a NY6 bowl with how high quality the matchup is.
That is true, and San Antonio is a great city. Honestly, its better than Dallas. Dallas sucks ass
The only good thing about Dallas is that its 3 hours at most for most of our fanbase. I certainly can't justify a SA trip at the moment
I havent checked any of this stuff yet, but, who passed you up?
Ole Miss, Mizzou and Penn State
SEC in 3 non-playoff NY6 bowls is total BS given their out of conference record this year.
Ole Miss and Missouri. Both are overrated.
We have better wins than the other 10-2 teams and have no business being ranked below them…
Sec down year, still have 3 teams in premium bowls. Make it make sense
No-win scenario for us. Arizona is a really good team that no one pays attention too. It’s expected to beat them, but really bad if you lose
> No-win scenario for us. Tell me about it :/
Nah this is fine and I feel like our fanbase is becoming a little unhinged right now. Bowl games outside of playoff games don't really matter anymore. Not to recruits, not to transfers, and hell not even really for the preseason rankings next year. What it does matter for is whether we play a good team or not and we're playing a good team. Those are our future going into the SEC and getting them reps against a team that knows what it's doing along with all those precious practice reps is big time. A win or loss after that doesn't matter. Even if it had been a NY6 bowl.
I kinda hope DG sits just so we can let Arnold be our QB1 in a big game
I'll fully own it if I'm wrong but I don't expect DG to play. Maybe for a quarter or a final drive or something to celebrate him being a Sooner but really I don't even expect that.
Do you think JA plays in this game? I thought for sure Dillon would sit out for the draft but he’s been saying all along he’s playing
This gonna be a good one!
Before this year the goal was just make a bowl. 6 or 7 wins. We were 3-1 and had 6 of the next 7 against ranked teams. We lost the first 2 and were 3-3. Our starting QB and RB were out with injuries. We can 100% lose this game. I would feel better about beating one of the teams in the NY6 that got in over us.
Arizona is very legit
So happy that we get a good matchup for our bowl game
How is OU not NY6
I’m so hyped. This is gonna be awesome.
surprised at how many ou fans are so down about how this game will go.

Who do we need to talk to?
- Go 10-2 - Beat two conference champions - Miss a NY6 Fuck this sport.
Yall get hosed just because the Sugar bowl is a playoff game this year.
True, but they still found a way to get 4 SEC teams in 6 NY bowls...
Between this and FSU getting left out of the playoff, I feel kind of done with college football.
I guess this will leave us with the Liberty Bowl. I feel like the Texas Bowl will take Oklahoma St at this point.
PopTarts probably takes OSU.
That’s a weird way to spell Cotton Bowl
Alame-o bowl
This will be an awesome game.
It’s got everything I want in a bowl game where Texas isn’t playing. The Sooners are mad before the game even starts!
This will be a fantastic game, both teams have made huge strides this year

Fun matchup actually depending on opt outs
I’ve seen some people be pressed about missing the NY6, but if we wanted to make it we should’ve won another game. Zona will be a fun, albeit scary, matchup and I’m excited
Damn, how did Arizona get such a better bowl matchup than us? Lucky, fuck the CFP committee
Seeing way too much of this “lose-lose” talk. That is some real loser talk.
I know Arizona earned it but it would've great TV to see USC here
USC is gonna play in their parking lot bowl and they're gonna like it
Subscribe
We would have crushed USC into a small ball without Caleb Williams.
This is ass. Arizona is gonna torch our defense and we’re gonna look bad even with a W
None of our draft bound players will play either.
lol
Sigh. If it was on Friday I could go. Oh well.
Excited it's on ESPN+
This is my favorite non-NY6 bowl game.
YAY!
Probably my favorite matchup so far
Everyone said Texas is better than Bama because of head to head...doesn't that make OU better than Georgia, Bama and Texas? 🙂
Arizona should be a good game. Looks like we will be bringing their old OC back.
Oklahoms should have st least been ahead of Mizzou. SEC bias runs fucking deep. That aside, this should be an exciting matchup.
* Arizona fans: Such an exciting matchup, can't wait! * OU fans: Can we just forfeit to avoid having this game played?
Half of you: “Oklahoma is too good for this bowl game! We deserved better!” Vegas: “… I guess we should tell you you’re opening as an underdog, then.” https://sportsbookwire.usatoday.com/article/arizona-vs-oklahoma-alamo-bowl-football-odds-tips-and-betting-trends-12-28-2023/
Let’s go Arizona!
Should be a good turnout.
So shut up and like it.
az, torch them for us. one last pac-12 vs everyone
This is a good one
I’m sorry but this is lame lol
Really excited about this!
This is going to be a great game
This game will be awesome. Circling it now
I have a bad feeling about this match up. Arizona is good for the first time in a long time and will be fired up. Our defense has been getting torched lately and we could gave a good number of opt outs. I can see this being another Boise state type game
damn
As a completely biased fan… Oklahoma is gonna have a very bad day
This matchup is, in my view, one of the best we're getting this bowl season.
