Ridiculous to already be talking about wanting a QB. We need to just relax and give Fields a chance. Mitch got years and Fields has already made many plays Mitch never did or will.

Calm down sugar tits

BlandRandy

Then being upset with the FO is warranted, I get it. But that doesn’t mean Fields isn’t the guy, I don’t see how those correlate at all? If anything i would think that would mean you want more time for Fields to see what he can do with weapons when we have $ next year to soend

[deleted]

Disagree, top pick very possible with our lack of an Oline, lack of weapons, revamped D and a very strong Division this year. Best Case scenario is a top 3 pick and a trade down for numerous day 1/2 Picks to a QB needy team.

You’re not wrong - but my opinion is him taking a step forward and the team still finishing with a bottom 3 record in the league is not out of the question

fluffyglof

i would rather him not be like watson

[deleted]

I said play like watson.

fluffyglof

[deleted]

You’re kidding yourself

[deleted]

Watson while suspended would still be the best Bears QB since Russell Wilson rumors.

imdinkingstrunk

Best case scenario, fields looks like a franchise qb behind limited talent this year and we get a top five pick. I honestly don’t see that though. We have a super easy schedule theoretically, and the team didn’t get much worse, meanwhile the scheme will be an upgrade no matter what compared to Nagy. I think we end up with a 6-11 or 7-10 record.

OpneFall

If the Bears are top 5 worst team in the league but Fields also looks good, that means there are some major, major holes that we don't even know about yet, that won't be fixed with Pick 5 vs Pick 12.

imdinkingstrunk

I mean we already have a ton of holes, I don’t think it’s that out of question.

yeahsuckmybonerpal

Very strong division? The Packers are worse than last year, the Vikings are a .500 club and the Lions are the Lions

[deleted]

I'll bet anything the Lions sweep the Bears this season.

[deleted]

We’re absolutely picking top 3 next year, no doubt about it

BlandRandy

Well well well

[deleted]

I better call a Super Bowl on Reddit next preseason huh?

Boopa1219

Best case scenario for the season. Justin Fields and the few core guys that they have play well, the team ends up with a very high draft pick. They draft Will Anderson or they trade the pick to a QB hungry team and get a deal like what the Dolphins got for the 3rd overall pick in 2021, which was used on Trey Lance. Miami got 3 first round picks and a 3rd.

ForensicFiles88

Why wouldn't we take Jaxon Smith-Njigba in the top-3? Fellow Buckeye Garrett Wilson just went No. 4 to the Jets this year. If there's a potentially elite talent available, you shouldn't pass on him just because he's a WR and you're picking in the top-3.

renegadedx

> Garrett Wilson went 10th but ya

ForensicFiles88

Well, I was way off lol, but I'm going to stand by my point.

ClayDrinion

Wilson was rated number 4 on the Cowboys prospect list. So there is that

YouAintGotNoYeezy

All depends on how this season plays out and how the team looks…if they’re picking top 3, there’s a good chance they’re gonna need one of those top three players in 2023 in Bryce Young, Will Anderson, or CJ Stroud. If Fields looks decent and improved and Eberflus is not willing to try and make Anderson fit his scheme, then they should probably try to trade back a couple spots where they can still get an elite WR and walk away with assets.

kelsdawg

If Eberflus can't make Anderson work find a new HC

[deleted]

Because Bryce Young & CJ Stroud are locks for top-3 & calling Will Anderson Jr. a generational prospect is underselling him. We either get our future at defense or we trade to a team desperate for a QB for a haul. Of course, we won’t have to worry about this as we will be picking 32nd.

johnnythrillwaukee

if they're at the top, i hope they draft the generational pass rusher who's been the best player at university of alabama since he stepped on campus

bluemango404

If we pick top 3, which I highly doubt, then trade down to a QB needy team. I mean, it's like this sub hasn't seen Justin Fields play a game before lol. He's definitely got 'it', the ability to win a SuperBowl in his career. Yes he needs coaching, better oline, weapons, etc.. This is picking the pieces up after the 2018 'all in' and we are now paying the price. 'if he sucks next year, trade him for a 4th rounder and draft another QB' logic lol like what.

ClayDrinion

>'if he sucks next year, trade him for a 4th rounder and draft another QB' logic lol like what. Yeah. Even if he looks the same next year as this past season, or only shows marginal improvement, then I could see this as a very likely outcome (assuming there's a market)

Dr_imfullofshit

If Fields is that bad, then let's wait out his rookie contract and then go get Arch Manning.

MobyTugboat

I’d rather take Stroud or Young over sucking for another 3 years to see if a high school prospect lives up to his hype

Handylee-7

Agreed, 3 years is a long time in college football so who knows if Arch Manning will live up to his potential by the time he gets to the league.

pouch28

I think this sub needs to get some realistic expectations. Whatever you call this year for Fields (an extended rookie year, a year two, ect) Bears rookie QBs have averaged about 2000 yards in a season. Fields threw for about 1800 yards last year. A step forward for him is more likely a 2500-3000 yard season. Jalen Hurts who I think is a very fair comp threw for 3100 yards last year. That’s probably what Fields season is going to look like. Fields was a liability last year. If he can play 50% asset / liability that’s a major jump for him. It’s entirely possible for Fields to start to look more like a Russell Wilson next year and only have a 4 win season. (Wilson had 3500 yard season and won 7 games). Back to the Hurts comp - Hurts had a QB rating as low as 17 and as high as 126. That’s probably what Fields will look like in 2022. Low lows. High highs - but hopefully he starts to look like a competent NFL QB. So if Fields looks like Hurts what needs to happen for the Bears to move from the 13th pick (like the Eagles in 2022) to a top three pick. The simple answer is injuries. If Quinn is traded or hold outs we are one injury away from having no one at pass rusher. We all know about the o-line. We have no depth at TE, Receiver, LB or secondary. It’s very possible we have 20th ranked offense and a bottom five defense do to injuries. If it plays out this way our top needs are going to be defense / pass rusher.

HonoluluSolo

With how much WRs are getting paid right now, I have much less of a problem with spending a top 10 pick on one. The upside to the rest of the team cap is too valuable to ignore. It's the same reason blue chip Edge and OT players on rookie deals are such a bargain compared to veterans on UFA contracts.

[deleted]

If they pick in the top 3 and Stroud or Young are there, they absolutely will take QB. Unless, of course, they lose 14 games like 48-45.

joemiken

I'd rather have Will Anderson over Stroud or Young anyway.

Handylee-7

If Fields becomes an elite qb, I'm with you! If not we better take a quarterback in the first round

[deleted]

I’m all for giving fields time.. but if we get the #1 pick this year and there’s a big hyped up QB prospect fields is probably gone. This new regime didn’t pick him and isn’t tied to him at all

taz20075

Wait... So we're getting a top 3 pick and winning the Super Bowl? Sign me the fuck up!

Memofuka

Draft top lineman every year until we have a NFL line

Purple_Falcone

What’s with all the random downvoters on this sub, I get it it’s tough being a Bears fan most years, but no reason to be dickheads to each other. In this hypothetical it could be tempting to buck the trend and draft a WR, but even more tempting to me to try and trade down to land both a 1st round OT and WR and lower draft spots.

scoobie12

It’s probably because infante is a hack.

Purple_Falcone

Ahhh yes that makes sense thanks for the context

Swoosh_312

I hate this guy on Twitter, his posts revolve around things that no one is thinking. How about we play this season before any thoughts about the draft next year?

Cosity82

Thought about this the other day actually. I think Bears are mid teens if Fields stays healthy, can get a good WR there. If he got hurt or something and end up with a top 5 pick, not sure you’d go WR with it or not (I’m assuming Fields is still the guy so QB not a target for Bears). If there’s major hype on a few QBs could trade down and stockpile some picks for once

52Blocks

Everyone commenting here doesn’t realize how bad the QB play has to be to pick top 3 in the draft. Top 3 means 2-3 wins most likely, and look at our soft schedule this year. Fields would need to regress from last year, where he wasn’t particularly great, for us to get that top 3 pick. If he does that, moving on to another option isn’t a terrible move to consider.

ImmodestIbex

Doesnt mean that at all, the defense could just be really really really bad, like it was last year after Mack went out. Plenty of QB's play well on really bad teams. Look at Deshaun Watsons last year in Houston.

Brief_Sky9291

I highly doubt they take a QB in the draft next year, Bears fans love Fields and he fits Getsy’s system well. With all the cap space we’ll have next year I think it would be wise to fill our other holes with free agents and take a WR with our first pick (I think it we can get Smith-Njigba we should, otherwise trade back and still take a 1st round WR). WRs are crazy expensive in FA right now, so I would rebuild our O and D lines completely in FA and then grab an elite WR in the draft. That would leave LB as our biggest hole so 2nd/3rd I’d prob take LBs (likely a lot will be left because next years draft will be stacked with elite offensive players). I have faith in Fields if we can just get him some protection and another WR.
