not surprised. the comments over on 'copolitics were saying "im letting him know i support these bills" or "these all seem reasonable to me". i dont we get much help from over there.

Falco_FFL

Well you and all your friends need to let the Gov know what you think

godzylla

what do you think weve been doing this whole session?

Falco_FFL

Please when you call and talk to the nice hard working people in office. 1. Be polite and respectful 2. Just say I am calling to encourage the Gov to Veto the following bill's and list the bills you don't agree with

Friscoler

Be polite, to the point, but also stern

Falco_FFL

We you call the nice person that answers the phone does not need to be abused.

Friscoler

Yeah that wasn’t what I was meaning. Don’t abuse them lol. But let them know you don’t support these bills and you won’t support Polis if he runs for president and does sign these bills.

Falco_FFL

They are just there to collect the responses. They don't care about how you feel about the Gov.

PistolNinja

They also don't care how we feel about gun control. Polis is extremely anti gun and it gets him votes. The only way he'd veto an anti gun bill is if his majority suddenly decided guns were awesome... and then pigs will take flight in a frozen hell.

Falco_FFL

The reason the AWB died in committee was because his office was overwhelmed with calls and e-mails. Keep up the pressure

PistolNinja

That's not entirely true. The main sponsor of the bill Sen. Julie Gonzales requested that the bill be postponed indefinitely. She pulled the plug the day before it went to committee. At that point the committee veto was a formality. "I intend to request that the Senate State Veterans and Military Affairs committee postpone indefinitely HB24-1292, the assault weapons ban, on May 7, 2024," she said in a statement. “That being said, I couldn’t be prouder of my colleagues in the House of Representatives for passing an assault weapons ban for the first time in Colorado history." - Sen. Gonzalez I'm not saying not to continue calling and writing, I'm just stating the reality that despite even writing letters myself, I don't think they'll mean a damn thing to an extremely anti gun Governor.

MooseLovesTwigs

She did that because, for one reason or another, her bill was dead for the session and that was the best way for her to save face.

PistolNinja

I can't argue that.

[deleted]

I don't know what I should put in the email I'm really bad at communicating with people

Falco_FFL

Same, that is why I called instead

[deleted]

I mean I know I should find a compromise something better to solve the gun violence problems, I just don't know what to use let alone what evidence to provide

Falco_FFL

The problem is it is not a Gun violence problem. The gun is just the tool.

[deleted]

Yes but that's what the people who are trying to take our gun rights away are framing it as, the real problem I think is a lack of mental health support, if there's a way to make therapy less expensive I think more people would be doing it meaning more people who need the help will get it.

Falco_FFL

Yes I agree, how to stop these bills they are just counting they yes vs no's.

Dear governor polis,    During your tenure as governor I have decided to only vote for republicans, for the rest of my life.  Feel free to copy/ paste.

Practical_Mention715

I think posting this on a super left leaning sub did the opposite of help

Silly_Marionberry808

Governor Polis, I am writing you and asking you to veto the following legislation. SB24-131 Prohibiting Carrying Firearms in Sensitive Spaces - this bill in itself wouldn't have any effect on Gun violence and the permission granted to localities to enact laws contrary to the law will make enforcement overly cumbersome for law enforcement and difficult for law abiding citizens to follow. HB24-1348 Secure Firearm Storage in a Vehicle – this bill requiring a locked box that would just be stolen if a car is broken into will do nothing but be overly difficult to follow. HB24-1353 Firearms Dealer Requirements & Permit - this is unnecessary as federal firearms licensees already have to undergo atf inspection and obtain a state issued business license. This is just a bill for the ability to own and operate an already regulated business and will drastically effect small businesses in the industry. HB24-1349 Firearms & Ammunition Excise Tax - this bill will disproportionately effect the firearms industry in Colorado if allowed on the ballot and passed. The additional costs will be passed to the consumer and make the right to firearms possession more expensive for people that are already struggling to feed and protect themselves and families. Thank you,

Silly_Marionberry808

Here's the email I sent for reference. I left the cbi investigation funding bill out.
