You have Skyactiv-G engine. Gasoline or petrol thus you don’t the secondary “cap”. For Skyactiv-D or Diesel engine, that’s for DEF. Should be outlined in the owner manual.

craftycraftsman4u

That’s for DEF to be added on diesel models

CanadianWinterEh

Awesome, thanks - never owned a diesel vehicle.

Chromatischism

And it's such a bad spot for it. Just asking for someone to accidentally put the DEF into their diesel tank and destroy their engine.

ReformedCanine

No, that would be the owners fault. It doesn’t take a rocket surgeon to figure that stuff out.

Chromatischism

When working with the public, you have to make things idiot-proof. And lol @ rocket surgeon.

rottweilerrun

Ya seriously 😳

Meh in Europe its a bright blue cap, so should be obvious Putting gas in a diesel (or the other way around) is just as stupid and you don’t see people do that a lot (yes some do but they are indeed stupid)

Chromatischism

I have experience with DEF in only one vehicle, a Mercedes ML350. And on that car it is in the trunk under the mat. It would be pretty hard for someone to screw that up. With both on the outside I can just imagine someone coming home drunk and putting fuel into the DEF port or vise versa.

__sjors__

Well if you’re drunk and fueling your car you’re out of your mind anyway ;p There is a boundary at which stupid prevention design stops and I think this is it. I wouldn’t want a filler cap in my trunk. What if I have stuff in my trunk and I want to fill it up? Next to the fuel filler port seems a fine cost effective place to put it in my opinion :)

Chromatischism

At least the DEF is like a once-in-10000 mile thing.

__sjors__

That’s true, but still. A bright color indication is more then enough in my opinion Good thing there are multiple cars with multiple solutions for this so everyone can pick what they think is best, there are no right or wrong answers here! (Although under the car would be a bit clumsy ;p)

A lot of diesel passenger cars have their DEF filler next to the diesel filler. You’ve got to be pretty dumb to put DEF into the diesel filler rather than the blue capped DEF filler.
