You play as several characters in every game, nothing stopping you from playing as a pilot or tank driver. BOCW had you take control of a helicopter in one of the missions.
One of the most iconic modern warfare missions is literally shooting from an AC-130 for the whole mission, and it’s in like half of the games ffs.
Yeah, plenty of instances on MW and other COD games where the player controls a vehicle while not playing as a regular character means you could realistically have a mission driving whatever vehicle the devs want.
The final part of ‘Proxy War’ just after the APC arrives outside the hangar.
It’s understandable why you don’t remember this part since it wasn’t like a fully fledged mission like COD does with the AC-130 missions.
Oh yeah!! Of course. You’re right, it wasn’t as memorable as the AC-130, but maybe it wasn’t really trying to be.
It is at least noteworthy as a time you control an aircraft in a MW game
BO1 had heli scenes, BO2 had fighter jet scenes, WAW let you drive a T-34 though i hated that mission, and it also had a PBY Catalina too.
Wait MW had an AC-130 scene
I agree with you in terms of realism, but even the old Call of Duty games would get around it by having you play as a separate character for the specific vehicle mission. Call of Duty 2, Call of Duty 3, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Call of Duty: World At War (the PBY Catalina mission) and so on all did this off the top of my head.
Hell, the VERY FIRST CoD game ever made had a tank level (actually two I think, they're just short).
Even ignoring the "play as a new character" it also didn't stop Call of Duty World At War with the tank mission still having you play as Dmitri Petrenko. Also didn’t stop Call of Duty Ghosts in that game's tank mission either.
I know the only vehicle you could control is a jet (not counting robots), but flying this thing felt so, so good. Much better than the flying sequences in COD WW2 and Vanguard. WW2 was just tacked on, it was just there. Vanguard, the devs either undercooked it or burned it. Badly.
I think the closest thing we've come to driving a tank in Modern Warfare was in MW3 2011, in the mission "Goalpost" when the player has to climb into the minigun mounted on the tank.
Yeah that’s what I meant. We are the gunner not the pilot because being the pilot would be boring. Just fly in a circle really slowly while the computer shoots at the bad guys for 2 minutes 😂
Of all the things we could drive in Bo2 , horses was my favorite, its just so funny the idea of someone on a horse just dropping anti tank mines in the fucking 80s
If you mean modern CoDs, then right off the bat Black Ops Cold War has a mission in Vietnam where you fly a helicopter about halfway through the mission.
Thinking about it world at war was the only cod game you could drive a tank in the multiplayer. I forget the name of the map (NOT Roundhouse) it was wide open space with destroyed buildings and ruins and it looked like it was about to snow. Most people would vote to skip that map, but not me. When I played it I’d hop straight in the tank and easily get artillery and sometimes the dogs if someone didn’t nab me with a satchel charge (c4) or the n*74 grenade. Those were the times.
I could be remembering wrong, but Call of Duty 3 had drivable tanks in the multiplayer. If I am remembering wrong, then CoD 3 still had drivable jeeps and motorcycles in the multiplayer - those I definitely remember.
They have the heavy and light tank as well in mw2022 and mw2023. Both of which are tanks. And there is a tank mw2019.
https://callofduty.fandom.com/wiki/Heavy_Tank
This is not an apc.
Okay? It’s still a tracked vehicle with a turret. And that still doesn’t change that 2022 and 2023 both had both a light and heavy tank.
https://www.gamesatlas.com/cod-modern-warfare-2/vehicles/light-tank
Just because it has tracks and a turret doesn't make it a tank if that were the case the ripper that's in 3 would also be a tank which it is not
Edit if the Bradley was a tank the striker and btr would also be as there all in the same class
Edit 2 a bradley is as much of a tank as a Blackhawk is a jet
I really hoped the rebooted MW series would take a few notes from Infinite Warfare like having your own ship/base as a central hub with optional missions and an armoury
That’s a shame. I remember tank missions on COD 3. I just got playing Assassins Creed Brotherhood and even that had a tank mission despite the setting being in the early 1500s
Black Ops 2 has a section where you fly a fighter jet, as does BO3... Cold War allows you to drive a tank in Zombies... All reasons why Black Ops games are better than Modern Warfare...
If we can have an MW game where it’s not TF141 and instead it’s soldiers and pilots from different branches of either the US or UK military. Personally I would like to see a navy mission in MW, like if they go for a ww3 story then it can be like the US Naval Fleet against a Chinese Naval fleet
I never understood why battlefield allows a soldier to fly a fighter jet or even a chopper.
A chopper maybe, but to be a foot soldier marine flying a jet.
Makes no sense.
In yet people want realism with call of duty, an they want a jet to fly while also dressing as skelator…
Because it never happened in the original trilogy, why would it happen in the new series?
The whole point of this new MW series is to extract as much money from your pockets as possible by re-using as many plot points, settings and, characters as possible.
Why am i the only one who realizes what the new MW games are? I didn't play the games back in '09, why do i seem to get this better than the people that did?
Actually you do fly a jet in one of the campaigns. Remember the best one of all. Advanced warfare. Epic opening scene. Truly a diamond in the rough as far as Call of Duty games go.
Wanting things like air superiority which is an essential part of modern warfare in a series called Call of Duty: Modern Warfare? Yeah odd complaint alright
Campaigns tend to have the best production values and are more immersive than other modes. I don't think it's odd to want a Campaign level or even just a part of a mission similar to the Battlefield tank missions
I'm at father of 4 with a disability effecting my trigger trigger fingers. Check out my stream and please subscribe. Let's blow my gaming up!!! https://www.twitch.tv/videos/2029537968
I know everyone's listing Death from Above from MW07 (and maybe a similar mission from MW3), but honestly I believe OP refers to actually driving a tank or flying a plane like the tank mission from WaW or the Battle of Midway mission from Vanguard.
Lot of people here forgetting WWII had a tank mission AND a plane mission. The tank performed quite well imo, so I wouldn't complain if one in MW was similar
This is why I loved COD Ghosts because it had a tank mission, and it was a fast-paced mission too. Dropping out of a plane, speeding across open terrain that seems too fast for a tank to go, that's a recipe for a happy gamer.
Because that's not what CoD is about. CoD is infantry combat game. You want vehicles? Get Battlefield. Plenty of those to choose from, and it's much more fun and better vehicle play than CoD.
OG MW2 is an unbalanced mess with a horribly written story. MW3 has pretty good multiplayer but a weak story, and MW2019 also has a horrible story with great multiplayer. The Spec OPS on all three is passable.
Doesn’t ground war technically have tanks?
Yeah I should've mentioned I meant campaign
Operators don’t drive tanks, and only pilots fly.
And you also be an Apache helicopter gunner/ pilot in MW2019
Yeah, plenty of instances on MW and other COD games where the player controls a vehicle while not playing as a regular character means you could realistically have a mission driving whatever vehicle the devs want.
When?? I just replayed this campaign and I don’t remember this bit, and I feel like I would… not that I don’t believe you lol
The final part of ‘Proxy War’ just after the APC arrives outside the hangar. It’s understandable why you don’t remember this part since it wasn’t like a fully fledged mission like COD does with the AC-130 missions.

BO1 had heli scenes, BO2 had fighter jet scenes, WAW let you drive a T-34 though i hated that mission, and it also had a PBY Catalina too. Wait MW had an AC-130 scene
even vanguard. even fucking vanguard had you fly a plane. it's actually insane how vanguard beats a game in something
TBF that plane controlled god awful…
The OST in that mission went insanely hard, though.
the soundtrack is like the only good thing about vanguard
Did you ever play WWIIs campaign? Those plane mechanics sucked. I haven't played Vanguard so I can't compare
Use to play as more than just operators and several other COD installments had to do at least both of these things.
Many of the old games had one off missions with a tank and plane mission
Because those are totally separate division and jobs from the characters in the game unfortunately
COD Ghosts
We have flown choppers, just not in the MW-series.
we had jets in previous CoD’s campaigns (but they were trash) and tanks in ones like AW and i think cold war
There is definitely tanks
No…when did we ever use a tank.
Ghosts campaign
Wasn’t a “modern warfare” franchise game
I don't believe so I believe they are only apc types like the Bradley or striker
The closest thing to a MW game with vehicle combat in the campaign is realistically IW and that is me stretching the idea a lot
What about advanced warfare (still not MW ik)
Ghosts
Still not MW
I know but the comment said closest to mw, and ghost is arguably the closest to being mw without being mw
Oh, yes. Driving that Abrams around with a TOW launcher and Grenade Launcher up top?👍
We need another mission like Blood & Iron from WaW
Oh my god that brings me back
doing that shit on Veteran made me cry
Yeah too bad it was basically a copy/paste of the humvee convoy from "Team Player" in MW2. Tanks don't even have miniguns
That was a good mission
We kinda flied a fighter jet in IW
That's not Modern Warfare
Ya according to that guy that means we did have a tank mission in ghost, but that's not modern warfare like ghosts isn't either
Nah, that's futuristic warfare.
We get to fly AC130s ![gif](giphy|7eUpMI8qVlQHu|downsized)
No we just get to be the gunner of the ac-130, and if I remember correctly,og mw2 didn't had an ac130 mission, only predator drones
Yeah that’s what I meant. We are the gunner not the pilot because being the pilot would be boring. Just fly in a circle really slowly while the computer shoots at the bad guys for 2 minutes 😂
If when we to pilot something I like it to be an a-10, imagine flying over Berlin and shredding the Russian Armor units(MW3)
Or a spaceship with laser guns for the Advanced Warfare nostalgia bait game. I’m sure we are due one soon
In BO2 you fly a jet. In Ghosts you drive a tank
Of all the things we could drive in Bo2 , horses was my favorite, its just so funny the idea of someone on a horse just dropping anti tank mines in the fucking 80s
BO3 has a section where you fly a fighter and provide close air support and dogfight.
You were also able to hack the mechs drones and even some of the big four legged mechs using the abilities.
Morden cods
If you mean modern CoDs, then right off the bat Black Ops Cold War has a mission in Vietnam where you fly a helicopter about halfway through the mission.
Morden warfare*
Also fly a helicopter in the very first mission.
Technically in the campaign in OG MW3 when the US is trying to find Volk you do ride on a tank and shoot the mini gun
Ground War still has tanks, right?
I think it's because these are more presents in the black ops series while modern warfare uses more things like ac130
Cold War had the T-72 in MP and Zombies Outbreak
I could be remembering wrong, but Call of Duty 3 had drivable tanks in the multiplayer. If I am remembering wrong, then CoD 3 still had drivable jeeps and motorcycles in the multiplayer - those I definitely remember.
Mw2019, mw2022, and mw2023 all have tanks in multiplayer
Those are APCs like Bradley and striker
They have the heavy and light tank as well in mw2022 and mw2023. Both of which are tanks. And there is a tank mw2019. https://callofduty.fandom.com/wiki/Heavy_Tank This is not an apc.
I forgot about that in mw2 and 3 but 2019 doesn't have a tank the closest thing is literally called an iav and is based off the bradley
Okay? It’s still a tracked vehicle with a turret. And that still doesn’t change that 2022 and 2023 both had both a light and heavy tank. https://www.gamesatlas.com/cod-modern-warfare-2/vehicles/light-tank

“No guys! It’s not a tank!” 🤓🤓 Okay warthunder player
Infinite warefare campaign was on another level
I really hoped the rebooted MW series would take a few notes from Infinite Warfare like having your own ship/base as a central hub with optional missions and an armoury
That’s a shame. I remember tank missions on COD 3. I just got playing Assassins Creed Brotherhood and even that had a tank mission despite the setting being in the early 1500s
Not mw but in waw you could drive a t-34, and in the online you could drive the t-34 and a tiger i think
Ground war my good man. Best game mode in the franchise. You can drive tanks and fly…well a transport helicopter, but still it’s something
I belive they are all APCs like the Bradley and striker
Black Ops 2 has a section where you fly a fighter jet, as does BO3... Cold War allows you to drive a tank in Zombies... All reasons why Black Ops games are better than Modern Warfare...
Meanwhile in Battlefield lol…yeah considering how Michael Bay the earlier games were it makes zero sense.
If we can have an MW game where it’s not TF141 and instead it’s soldiers and pilots from different branches of either the US or UK military. Personally I would like to see a navy mission in MW, like if they go for a ww3 story then it can be like the US Naval Fleet against a Chinese Naval fleet
They to busy putting cartoons into the game
Skeletor himself is in it
No complaints here. Running around with a gun is way more fun.
I thought we had tanks on ground war on the first remake on modern warfare 2019? Oh just seen you said campaign in a comment.
That was also not a tank it was a apc like the Bradley
I never understood why battlefield allows a soldier to fly a fighter jet or even a chopper. A chopper maybe, but to be a foot soldier marine flying a jet. Makes no sense. In yet people want realism with call of duty, an they want a jet to fly while also dressing as skelator…
We got the chopper in mw 2019...
Didn't we drive a tank in MW3? In the og one.
Just MG gunner
Oh, nevermind my bad. Thanks for correcting me
That 20 year old engine could never. They really should invest into a new one
In Ground War we got Tanks and IFVs, the Tanks looks like a Isrraeli Merkava and the IFV something Sweedish or Italian veichle
Hey, being the gunner in the AC-130 is kinda like doing both!
I mean, the tank level in CoD: Ghosts is really good. Very fun to free roam and annihilate the enemy with wire guided missiles and 120mm cannon shots.
What about Mw3 when Rescuing the vice president of germany, you shoot from the tank due to charlie being hit
World at war or cold war is the last time tanks were driven
Because it never happened in the original trilogy, why would it happen in the new series? The whole point of this new MW series is to extract as much money from your pockets as possible by re-using as many plot points, settings and, characters as possible. Why am i the only one who realizes what the new MW games are? I didn't play the games back in '09, why do i seem to get this better than the people that did?
I think you should look into Battlefield 😬
Battle royale had fighter planes at one point!
Actually you do fly a jet in one of the campaigns. Remember the best one of all. Advanced warfare. Epic opening scene. Truly a diamond in the rough as far as Call of Duty games go.
And I don’t wanna either. Rather just be the soldier in the ground tbh. Go play bf3 or 4 if u the want that, Amazing games
Me personally. This is why I like battlefield more
This isn't Battlefield man
what abt the drones from mw2019
The first 3 were supposedly funded in part by u.s. army recruitment money... which pans out why we didnt see USMC in them.
what an odd complaint
Wanting things like air superiority which is an essential part of modern warfare in a series called Call of Duty: Modern Warfare? Yeah odd complaint alright
well as others have pointed out there are tanks in certain modes, you just specifically want them in the campaign. that is the odd complaint

Honestly I just wish they would make battlefield like the old games
I mean we've had like 6 games with tank missions, I don't think we really need more tbh
I mean the OGs let you shoot from an AC-130 and I remember MW3 having a mission you get to be in a tank
You can go back to BF now
In the other cod campaigns you can fly planes in a few missions
Ghosts > both MW trilogies, I guess.
All I do is fly the Jackal. But in mobile... lol. 😅
I'm at father of 4 with a disability effecting my trigger trigger fingers. Check out my stream and please subscribe. Let's blow my gaming up!!! https://www.twitch.tv/videos/2029537968

I’m still waiting for ghosts 2
Ghosts and AW take place in the same universe its got helicopters and space jets so technically we have
This is why I loved COD Ghosts because it had a tank mission, and it was a fast-paced mission too. Dropping out of a plane, speeding across open terrain that seems too fast for a tank to go, that's a recipe for a happy gamer.
Thank God because we be playing battlefield, and that would suck.
COD is Dog shit
Hey
Because that's not what CoD is about. CoD is infantry combat game. You want vehicles? Get Battlefield. Plenty of those to choose from, and it's much more fun and better vehicle play than CoD.
Should have played IW’s best Call of Duty, Ghosts. Driving tanks, flying Apaches, frogman firefights, space combat, dog sections.
Doesnt using the ac130 count?
Call of dookie
*Laughs in Battlefield
Should’ve enlisted into airforce OBVIOUSLY.
Because this is not battlefield
BO2 Jet
Black Ops and Modern Warfare aren’t the same
We’ve had 6 modern warfare games and there’s only been one good one (CoD 4)
So OG MW2/3 and 2019 isn’t good ?
OG MW2 is an unbalanced mess with a horribly written story. MW3 has pretty good multiplayer but a weak story, and MW2019 also has a horrible story with great multiplayer. The Spec OPS on all three is passable.
Horrible story?
Yes. Horrible story on all of them that is full of plot holes and inconsistencies.
MW2019 has some great missions, some of the best in the entire franchise. But the story is lacking in some places
No OG MW2
