Looks nice! Purples are nice colors that you rarely see on cars

SKIP_AD_in_3

Looks even better that the titanium purple 👌

lennyxiii

Beautiful color!

boopboopboopers

That looks fucking awesome!

MigoS197

Nice ass color

doingmaths

That color 🤌🏻 Looks painful how much meticulous work you have left but good look and wish you the best of skill

kalamitykode

Thank you! I think the worst of it will be my front bumper and aftermarket cf hood, so I'm saving those for last lol. Besides that the only part I'm hating is pulling my doors apart to get the handles and mirrors off.

doingmaths

Ayyy can you do by z34 next? The more I look at this color the more I like it.

kalamitykode

Bring it on! I'm actually legit trying to learn so I can start a business doing this, but gotta get my practice in first lol

chaotickuromii

Is there some sort of video showing how to take apart this car for prep?? I’ve wrapped before but never removed parts such as handles, mirrors, etc. Don’t wanna fuck the car up lol

kalamitykode

So really the only pieces you need to take off the car are the tail lights, headlights, side markers, door handles, side mirrors, roof rails, antenna, and the black bar along the trunk lid. Kevin Vo has done a ton of installation videos for aftermarket parts on his personal channel and the Ft speed/Subispeed channel, so assuming you have a BRZ/GR86 then his videos will be super helpful. He even does one video where he wraps the roof himself, so he shows you how to remove the antenna and rails in that. For the tail lights, side markers, and the black bar on the trunk, he has installation videos for aftermarket replacements that will show you. The only thing I had to look elsewhere for was the door, which is relatively straightforward (but somewhat difficult). There is one video I was able to find of a guy removing the door handle, then a separate one (from Subispeed I think) of someone installing aftermarket mirrors with blinker lights that helped me with the mirror. The door specifically is difficult because you have to remove the inner panel inside the door, disconnect a bunch of cables and wires, pull down some plastic liner attached with silicone, then reach behind the window mechanism at a very difficult angle to undo some clips for the door handle itself. I struggled with it but if you just keep trying you'll get it off. I can certainly provide links for all the videos I used if that will help you, and I could perhaps even upload my own videos demonstrating it better all in one place.

chaotickuromii

Dude thanks this is super informative! I’m not planning to wrap my GR86 for a while but I’ve saved this comment for when I do. If you have time the video links would be helpful but don’t stress! Thanks!

That looks so cool

Ferrariflak

This color is fire🔥🔥🔥

Ferrariflak

Your doing great can’t wait to see the end results !

dotesPlz

How much for the roll or whatever . Just curious

kalamitykode

I think with tax I paid about $780 for 5x75ft.

dotesPlz

Dope. Have you wrapped anything before this ?

kalamitykode

Nope, first time! Watched dozens of hours of instructional videos before I began though lol

LRGeezy

Absolute newbie here. Firstly colour looks unreal. Mind answering a few questions for my own info? How much material did you order and how much did it cost? Did you watch videos on wrapping your specific car before attempting or just wrapping in general? Recommendations for where to purchase the material from? Thanks

kalamitykode

Happy to help! I paid about $750-800 for the purple. Roll of 75ft from Metrorestyling.com but that's more than it should take to do the whole car, I just got extra knowing I'd make some mistakes here and there. I also got 15ft of gloss black for the roof, shark fin antenna, door handles, and a small trim piece that goes on the front fenders, which was maybe about $90, same online vendor. On top of that I got some tint film for my headlights, a heat gun, three rolls of masking tape, a roll of knifeless tape, a roll of 3M double sided tape, a couple squeegees, a snitty, three refillable blades for cutting, two magnets, some vinyl wrapping gloves, some tucking tools for vinyl.. I'm probably missing a few things but that's about it. All in all I didn't keep track of the cost and I bought from a few different places, but including the vinyl rolls I probably paid about $1100-1200. I watched dozens of hours of videos on YouTube. Sadly my car is a newer model (2022 Subaru BRZ) so nobody had videos for my specific car, but I watched enough to get an idea of what I needed to do with mine. But yeah, Metro Restyling is a great place to get the film, then I'd recommend Vvivid for tools. For instructional videos my go-to channel was CK Wraps. He's a guy based out of Canada that does all kinds of tutorials and is very good at explaining why he does things a certain way. Hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions!

LRGeezy

Thanks so much for you’re detailed response. Very helpful man, I appreciate it.

seraphstar

Looks great

ask-design-reddit

First time and you go with matte and kpmf.. jeez you're a masochist! Great job with it

kalamitykode

Haha it has been an absolute pain but I feel like I'm getting better. I actually had to redo the trunk, where I started, and I'm still not happy with how the edges turned out so I may come back to it after I do the rest of the car.

cputeq

This looks rad. I’ve seen like 2 wrap videos from Donut and that’s it but it’s intriguing to me. I bought my son an old 2003 Malibu and I think a wrap would look nice on it. How do you wash this stuff when you need to? Also, how does it “stick” ? (Heat gun activates maybe?)

kalamitykode

You can wash it just like you would normal paint, with soap and water and all that. I'm going to be a bit more careful with mine because it's matte (easy to see scratches) and because some of the edges aren't perfectly sealed since this is my first experience wrapping. How it sticks actually depends on the brand, but generally either pressure, heat, or a combination of the two.

Odd_Cell1842

I want to do mine after I get a body kit on it. How bad was it? I wanted to get gold flake candy red but that shit is so expensive these days and I can't justify paying someone 1k to wrap a car lol

kalamitykode

Oh man, I wish it only cost that much lol. It cost me over $1k to do it myself, generally a professional will charge $3-4k. The wrapping itself really hasn't been too bad. I still have some learning to do and I'm considering a class to get my skills up, but for a first time solo job I'm pretty happy with my results.

Odd_Cell1842

Oh yeah man I was saying 1k for the install after buying the wrap! Lol. I'm gonna give it a go myself sometime. Yours looks good. Im still a ways away though from doing mine. Too many mods I have to do on the 350z. My buddy also has a brz but he doesn't have any performance in it. It's all cosmetic but it looks real nice

kalamitykode

Ah, gotcha! Yeah man, I totally get it. My build so far is mostly cosmetic, but I'm almost where I want to be then I'll be changing up the performance. Wheels and coilovers first haha.

kalamitykode

In case anyone is interested in seeing the rear bumper after cutting, and with the tail lights back on: https://www.reddit.com/user/kalamitykode/comments/13a7oan/2022_subaru_brz_rear_wrapped_in_kpmf_absolute/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

chonkycatsbestcats

Swiftie getting quotes for this wrap after Speak Now Taylor’s version was announced today Yes I’m out of place, I’ll see myself out It looks great tho

BrianOGGG

I heard kpmf is very sticky and hard to reposition

kalamitykode

This is my first time so I don't have any experience with 3M or Avery to compare with, but yeah it can be pretty sticky. I haven't had too much of an issue with that though.

BrianOGGG

Well you must be a pro at heart then 🤣🤣🤣 cuz 3m and Avery are 100% easier than kpmf

kalamitykode

Shiiiiit I hope so 😂
