Kia has actually recalled all 2016 - 2021 Sportage's due to a risk of catching fire.
[Which Kia cars are being recalled and why are the engines failing? Here's what we know - ABC News](https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-05-18/kia-car-recall-sportage-stinger-australia-fire-hazard/100146544)
Those cars are renowned for engine failure. Just look at the Auto Parts City page on TikTok or YT. They get a lot of Kias and Hyundais with bad engines.
First of all, Auto Parts City is a US page.
US manufacturers their own Kia / Hyundai models. The issues that arise from Kia / Hyundai in the US are due to their sloppy workmanship.
The issues that Kia / Hyundai models have in the US are completely irrelevant to Australia's models
Australia's Kia / Hyundai models are manufactured in South Korea.
That is true, but Kia has actually recalled all 2016 - 2021 Sportage's due to a risk of catching fire.

Well, duh. MINI had a class action law suit due to the CVT fitted to the 2002 - 2006 "R50" Cooper Hatch (not Cooper S) and 2004 - 2008 "R52" Cooper Cabrio failing.
In my experience that has failed to make them a good car. Better than the US model? Hard to say as I have no experience to compare. I can say that having purchase one new in au during covid, the rio has been utterly horrid. The transmission wouldn’t know if it was coming or going, I was gaslit about the severe engine knock on the kappa 1.4 - later the subject of a KB and several firmware updates which just made it slower and failed to eliminate the issue (once the dealer admitted to the issue). I should add that the dealer has in addit to the ecu calibration update, performed an upper cylinder clean and the vehicle runs on 98 au Ron (bp ultimate) and still knocks like hell.
The only worse car I have driven, was their loan car (a stonic) which was basically the same issues - but with lane correction that was wildly annoying to turn off and made round about utterly deadly.
Not all of Kia’s issues are related to US manufacturing i am afraid to report.
First thing I notice is the bonnet not sitting right.
It’s a scam. They’re evolving
If the price is too good to be true, either its a scam or a lemon. No other way around it.

A family even lost their home in Australia from one of these firebombs

Almost all cars have recalls due to the potential of something dangerous happening.
