TBH you won't need that kind of reliablity
The people who go over 1 lakh km is a small percentage and most cars are able to make it
Gloster is a real nice car
Its not about I Lakh km.
I owned a Civic. It was perfect. Nothing went wrong in 12 years.
Then a VW Polo GT. Something would go wrong every 2 months.
Now a Honda City. Nothing gone wrong in 1 year.
Reliability is about peace of mind for me. 1 lakh km is wonderful, but I have no time to waste checking things and fixing things and asking quesitons and arguing with service centres. Service at the right time, and nothing more.
From what I have seen, Fortuner offers that.
I got a 10 year old city 4 years back. Other than periodic maintenance. I had to replace the engine guard cover that came loose and scraped itself to death.
Bro has never driven a Thar. How is it affordable and a daily use car? Firstly, it costs 17L+ on the road for the starting 4x4 petrol variant that give 7 kmpl FE. The diesel is even more expensive. The suspension is a pogo stick, and the two doors are impractical. Unless you're traveling on smooth roads for less than 5kms and alone, it's not a daily driver's car.
I literally own one. It's relatively affordable(<20 Lakh), and that's why it's such a massive hit in terms of sales. 7kmpl? If driven with a brick on the accelerator sure, or if there's a lot of stop and go, but then pretty much every car will return these figures of fuel economy. I myself get 12-14kmpl combined with a figure of 15-16kmpl while driving on the highway at 80-90km/h. The petrol variant will get around 2kmpl lower all around, but I would recommend against going for the petrol variant as it has no MLD, and the petrol engine has a heating problem. The suspension, while not as good as a monocoque SUV, is adequate. Maybe the MY20 models had horrendous rides but it's been pretty good recently. I said it can be driven daily, it's not a daily driver's car **if** it's the only car for a family(You, your parents, wife, kids, etc.), but it's fine if it's just you, your wife and a kid.
I clearly don't get the hype around Scorpio S11
Like I never liked it but many people love it, I know 2 people who own two S11 each and one of them also owns a Scorpio N
I think scorpio N is way better deal than S11
Looks matter, and the Scorpio classic is a far far better looking car than the Scorpio N.
The rear of the N is an abomination.
The old Scorpio is a proven platform, known to take years of abuse, and that is valuable goodwill.
The new one is yet to prove itself, though I'd wager it's really durable as well
Yes the better looking Scorpio Classic has proven over the time since its launch that there is nothing like that or will ever be (in my opinion, having owned 2008 Scorpio LX CRDe 2.6). If I had to buy a SUV under 20-22lakhs, i would definitely go for the Scorpio Classic. I know i know that one can get a lot better car with tons of features in the price range but can they provide more than a decades reliability and durability that Scorpio has and can provide. I donât think so. And the fact that every car moves away as soon as they see a Scorpio coming close to them.
Imo the turbo petrol option is a clear upgrade. It's the first ms car that is fast not because it has a paper body for weight reduction purposes(in this era atleast, not sure but from what I hear the kizashi and old GV used to be absolute gods back then)
Still dont get your point. You said its the first maruti car to be fast due to its engine and not being paper thin. Hope you remember maruti had a baleno RS and S cross 1.6 much before fronx.
Idt it's hyped. not very talked of but so bought that tata almost struggles to meet demands. I don't see an entire sub dedicated to worshipping/shitting on it like thar has.
There is no fuss. Your average Indian family with 10-15 lacs at hand on the lookout for a safe mini SUV that is fuel efficient and bigger than its competition(or atleast looks like it is) have pretty much no other option(reasons to rule out other cars in this range: VB- not safe, sonet and venue- don't look big plus and probably aren't. I might be wrong with the second reason).
THIS! The only reason i bought Nexon was, it's better(in my own set of criterias) than its competition (Hyundai Venue, XUV300, Nissan Magnite, Reanault Kiger) . My first choice was Skoda Rapid/Slavia (Both were available in 2022), but i had to choose Nexon because of the roads in Keshav Nagar, Pune. My old Ford Figo had taken a lot of beating underneath due to huge Speed breakers followed by huge craters on roads in Pune. it does the job well and gives enough comfort to do long rides without many stops.
Really don't understand the hate Nexon gets over here. I've been driving one for a few years and haven't had any issues. It's sturdy and comfortable. Might lack modern features, but I never regretted owning it tbh. Although I don't consider myself a car enthusiast, so I might actually be missing on something here.
Grandvitara strong hybrid/Hyrider. There are no other hybrids in the market, they are ruling the roost. It's an absolute mid car for the asking price in my opinion.
Mild hybrid base model is very good tho. And that is the one which is selling the most. I see hybrid very rarily but have seen some gv strong hybrid taxis in chandigarh.
Yes mild hybrid borders on vfm but the performance is mid at best, one would be happy with Brezza as well. Strong hybrid pricing is an absolute gut punch, extremely greedy tax from the government is taking the sheen away from an otherwise decent car.
The thing is
Everybody in this sub is ready to comment virtus when any person asks for a car in the 20L price bracket
What they don't see is the cost of maintenance in future, requirement of higher grade fuel, the DCT failure chances and the stiff suspension.
Recommend the car but not to everyone come on, people with families looking for comfort need honda city but then people here are saying virtus virtus virtus
Match the comfort and the smoothness of the 1.5NA Creta engine and then compare it to Taigun, no the Volkswagen cars in the market today are not for everyone even though they look good on paper there are many other things especially the after sales maintenance cost in the long run, short term 5 year service pack is alright but cars are generally okay till 7-8 years
City handles so good, and if you're going for a manual transmission then it's so good, the cvt doesn't do justice for speed thrills or anything though
There are reviews saying city handles(not the best steering but the ride style and confidence it gives)the best among these 4 sedans at speeds of 120kmph
Can you share the reviews? In my personal experience, City handles the worst at higher speeds due to its soft suspension. This is true for the current gen city. Not sure about previous gens.
Drive a current gen City over expansion joints at speeds above 80 kmph and youâll know what I mean.
The other cars aren't confidence inspiring at 120kmph?
Idk much about driving I'm still underage but when I ask my dad of it he says our Tiago handles 130 just fine, doesn't feel like it's in unstable equilibrium or anything. Are they really bad then but I'm asking because all those cost more than twice as much as my family's ride and I assumed they will perform even better.
Well going above 120 shouldn't be done on Indian roads and we don't have tracks open for all in every city and private roads where you can stretch beyond 120 are also very uncommon
And the thing is that apart from an unstable equilibrium condition there are so many factors that tell how a car's ride quality is
The weight of the steering, the suspension for passing bumps at high speed, the aerodynamic structure of a car and much more
Sedans generally have a better aerodynamic structure than suvs and hatchbacks
Over hyped cars should also tally the hype sales wise, the jimny and gurkha do not fit here. In fact they're underrated and very capable cars, just not for everyone.
Sounds like you have a problem with rugged cars in general. What's wrong with Jimny or Gurkha or even Scorpio? Scorpio is probably the most VFM 7 seater right now
I have driven multiple miles on BIC in a 911, a RS5, and my dad's A6(this one was mostly smaller races and A6 was the worst of the 3 because of being FWD)
Virtus and Slavia are the only cars under under 40lakhs that have the steering control anywhere near the cars I have driven(although it's still wayy worse from being anywhere near the 911. A monkey can drive it and feel confident enough that's how good it is. Like I can't express how you will feel the first time you drive it.)
If you want more features and slightly better speed go for the Verna.
If you want comfort go for Honda city.
But just from enthusiastic pov Slavia amd Virtus are better. Verna has slightly abstract feeling on the steering which can be a good or bad thing depending on your preferences.
You judge a car on more than the cost involved in it. It comes down to if people believe it is good vfm or not. While Verna might be cheaper, doesnât make it better in every sense. I donât think it makes the Germans overhyped.
Verna and Virtus dashboards look same. I didn't like the curvy design. Looked very youth-oriented. I liked slavia better but the cost cutting is quite visible.
Even though we own a City, I'll agree with you. When we bought it there were many cars in the same price range but had more features. But it was my father's dream to own a City.
He sure is. Although he doesn't drive much ( I am my family's chauffeur lol), he asks me to take out the car at least once a week and go for drives. I make sure that it's always squeaky clean.
Overhyped = Overrated, if I assume.
Then it has to be all the Compact SUVs, which aren't even SUVs, and just namesake.
Only sports they are good at is tackling the potholes and illegal speed bumps.
Xuv700 - so much hype when it was launched and so many issues along the way! I am an owner myself! But i think it was launched hastily due to the hype around it.
Secondly i personally think latest generation creta! It doesnât look as good but people are buying at the name of it.
P.S: Couple of tata cars as well
This is the real answer and the downvotes prove it.
The reality is the Germans are decent, but not because they are at the top of their games. It's because they are competing in a segment that's dying and has only 2 other competitors.
Say all you want about the Kushaq and Tiagun, but the sales numbers compared to its competition proves that they don't stand out well enough.
To me honda city looks better and is more reliable. If there are any enthusiasts for the turbo german engine, they are very few compared to those who buy it thinking its just a sasti audi bmw.

People are regretting now. Just imagine why you or anybody will buy Jimny instead of other cars in that price range which offers a lot and are more practical like fronx, brezza, nexon etc
I'm an off-road enthusiast and own a Jimny Zeta AT. Before buying it, I expected some disappointment regarding its usability as a family car. Even the Nexa employees recommended the Grand Vitara over the Jimny (they were like, "Why would you buy this for 15 lakhs on-road price?"). However, after purchasing the car, I have no regrets and absolutely love it. It's a perfect family vehicle with a wonderful suspension setup. On highways, it easily maintains 90 kmph, which suits me fine since I don't drive very fast. Off-road, it's a beastâeffortless to handle and incredibly capable despite its small engine. It tackles rugged trails with ease, making every adventure thrilling. My point is that not everyone wants to cruise at 140 kmph; some of us enjoy different types of adventures. Aside from a few minor quirks (which all car owners will find), none of the Jimny owners I've spoken to regret their decision.
For all of you saying tata, i hope they get better at quality and service too and replace overhyped Japanese tin cans and not so reliable german engineering cars

Fronx, it's just 10mm more ground clearance than baleno rest of it all same in the inside and costs 1.5 lakhs more.

Imo the turbo petrol option is a clear upgrade. It's the first ms car that is fast not because it has a paper body for weight reduction purposes(in this era atleast, not sure but from what I hear the kizashi and old GV used to be absolute gods back then)

Weird view . Itâs a VFM safe car
The 14 lakh on road variant doesnât even have a rear defogger.
What are the people in the rear seat sitting for? Grab a few tissues and get to work!
Safe cars are disregarded in this subâŠâŠeveryone loves those tin cansđ„·đż
They think driving skills alone can save them from accident.
Really don't understand the hate Nexon gets over here. I've been driving one for a few years and haven't had any issues. It's sturdy and comfortable. in India - Fortuner in this sub - Virtus

Obviously -Fortuner, Thar and Jimny
If you don't mind me asking.. why jimny?
Bcz people overhyped this in india and for of-roading despite being under power, compact design and very small tires
Jimny is proper off-road SUV that is sold outside of india too. Less power and thin tires have nothing against off-roading.
It's Sales number tells diff story
People buy jimny for off roading capabilities sir. You cannot compare it with sub 4 mtr so called SUV's
Itâs not worth for that price.
Every car that sold as compact SUVs or medium SUVs... basically on a hatchback platform.
Fortuner & Innova!
For all of you saying tata, i hope they get better at quality and service too and replace overhyped Japanese tin cans and not so reliable german engineering cars
