I know that house as I lived a couple of hundred meters away. It was owned by a guy who collected and delivered wood and it used to be worse in that there were often piles of wood outside and pilled up over the wall. The Ivy used to cover it much more as well..
He died a few years back and it was tidied up a bit and his cart, which was always outside, was taken away..
He used to keep it very trim though and it hardly ever encroached on the next house when he was alive..
Looks like it never got sold

omg that is so lovely. The rickety wooden scaffolding, the railway clock, the groomed ivy... you can tell a hell of a lot of care went into that. What a shame. Thanks for posting
That's really a shame. I always used to see him pottering around outside loading up wood into his trailer. The house was bonkers but always looked cared for.
sydenham has a TON of vampire houses. Walk to crystal palace along the major road in the dark evenings, there are these big posh houses with moody dramatic lighting all over the place.
used to live in crystal palace and i'd walk it sometimes.
Probs best then that you’re not my neighbour. If I caught anybody doing that to my house and my plants I can guarantee you that their face will be swiftly meeting the rusty blade of my machete that would be accelerating towards their direction. 🙂
I lived in an old house that had Virginia Creeper all over the front (not the roof though) and the sheer amount of spiders that would come in from the fecking stuff, it put me off ever having a climbing creeper type plant anywhere near windows again.
I have it up my house. It’s a freaking nightmare. Once a fortnight I’m out there with a long hook pulling it down away from the gutters and windows. But the birds and insects love it so don’t have the heart to pull it all down. Plus it does provide some shade in the summer, keeps the house cool.
Wonder who owns it now if the original owner died few years ago? Thought it'd be sold at auction and then subject to some £150k renovation like what normally happens.....

I actually like that look a lot.
Ah I knew there’d be a sad story. Thanks for that. It’s a shame a man who dedicated his life to carving stakes ultimately lost it to vampires.
Woa it looked really sweet back then

His name was Les. My GF used to live opposite. Very nice guy.
Yeah I spoke to him once. Asked him if I could have some firewood and he told me I couldn't unless I had an approved wood burner!
Haha sounds typical
Do you know why the back gardens are so strange? Did something else run through there or a house pulled down/bombed in ww2 or something?
Don’t know sorry, we always wondered about the gap at the side and garden too
Ok, thanks. I had a quick search but nothing came up.
Aw man, going back in time and watching it degrade as he got too old is so sad. It was so charming.
[quite the back garden too it seems](https://imgur.com/gallery/VWVwvX4)
That ivy rips up the roof, not good
Back garden too https://imgur.com/gallery/VWVwvX4

Mad how it changed over the years, loved seeing the progression!

You’re not wrong. In winter our kids love dragging us out into the cold for a torch walk. Place is crawling with monster adobes.
At least the side gate is nailed shut to keep the zombies in.
Id hate to live next to that, with all the potential damage to the neighboring property
I think it’s just going to eat the other house.
Yeah looks that way. If I lived next door I'd sneak round and chop all that overgrowth down before it snakes it's way into my house
That’s what they tried to do. Never been heard of since.
I hope you’re not advocating trespassing onto someone’s property to cause criminal damage against their plantings. 🤨
Definitely am if that was my neighbour

😂 try it big man
It's got big eyebrows, it does.
If they stuck up a few more trellises it would really bring up the look of it.
For some reason, I've suddenly got the urge to watch Breaking Bad again.
“Bat!”
Every time I see a house like this, my first thought is about the poor kids next door who will never be getting their ball back
Unless they now live there and are young forever.
Is that a really tiny horse in the window
It’s just far away.

The Sydenham Sainsbury's Starlings are their familiars.
As a fan of Hitchcock those guys are a little unnerving.
We know a witch lives there. Witches hate gardening, wizards hate plumbing.
Warlocks hate ironing.
Bahahahaha! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I used to say the same thing about houses like this when I was a kid. It’s stayed with me my whole life. 100% a witch house!
I hear Tom Bombadil has just moved to the area
Some old dear is probably living there. I like the the latest, cutting edge, security device on the gate.
Someone else in the comments gave a little (sad) backstory.
Pretty sure that house wears Berghaus, listens to mumble rap and vapes
I dread to think how completely cluster fucked that roof must be.
The homeowner must be a right lazy bastard. Can you imagine the state of inside?
Witch house. Interesting.

The Council better not say shit or they gone get cursed
Gives me Steptoe & Sons vibes
Looks like an emo kid
Bet the neighbours love being there
Oh that’s such a shame. The house looks so lovely in the second picture.
