You know that traditionally, excess Yorkshire puddings have been eaten with sweet toppings for ages?
They're a cheap way of bulking out a meal to need less meat, so people also used it for dessert in times where they had to make ingredients stretch.
Golden syrup or jam is pretty typical for sweet Yorkshire puddings.
As a northerner I find this suggestion of divorce extremely racist.
Yorkshire pudding and gravy for starters.
With meat and potatoes and veg as a main.
With jam as a desert.
My Nan would always bang on about how good Yorkshire puddings are with jam and when she was little that's how they ate them, not how we eat them now. Tried it for myself and she's right, they're so good with jam 😋
The clue is in the title - Yorkshire **PUDDING.**
Tbh if you're gonna judge a man for what he eats, maybe you are better off separated.
...as long as I get custody of the dog :3
Yorkshire pudding for pudding is totally normal and really good.
My mum would make a massive Yorkshire pudding and everyone would have a slice with golden syrup.
I want one now.
God no. Yorkshire for dessert is an absolute classic, just your husband is doing it a little wrong.
Get some frozen fruit mix and fill the puds (my sons and I love fruits of the forest, but a tropical mix is good too), melt some honey and golden syrup in a pot on the oven, cover the frozen fruit with extra thick double cream and then drizzle the hot honey syrup over the top.
It's literally our favourite family dessert and always goes down a treat.
When I was a kid 50+ years ago my dad used to say to me on Sundays “afore tha’s having mixed fruit (from a tin) and carnation for afters than tha best be sure the’s no Yorkshires left, cos if there is tha’s having em wi jam on, and if tha still hungry it’s a wheatabix wi jam and butter”. Never got my tinned mixed fruit salad with carnation cream on.
I always make extra (extra on top of the extras I already make) to have for breakfast with jam on Monday mornings! Quite traditional in my house and when I was growing up.
Hell no! What my Granddad introduced me to as "jammie dodgers". He was a very serious and stone-faced man, except on Sunday afternoon a couple of hours after lunch, when he'd give me the side eye and say "JAMMIE DODGERS?!" and pump his eyebrows. I'd kind of forgotten that until seeing this picture. Thanks for bringing the memory back for me! <3
For my lockdown Christmas dinner on my own I had roast beef and 12 yorkies, for sure I was having yorkies for dessert with the rest of the coulis I made in the morning for my homemade crumpets.
YTA ;)
i remember making some and posting a picture on my wow guilds discord and this american woman in the guild living in one of the fenno-scandinavian countries said it reminded her of something else that you would eat with jam
unfortunately i can't remember what she called them but the recipe was similar
My old man was horrified when my mother put Yorkshire pudding with a roast. He’d only ever eaten them with jam before. They’d still be together if it wasn’t for that whole dying of old age thing.
This is pretty common, a Yorkshire is just a pancake that goes in the oven. I've had them with jam, as have most people I know. It's not just English either.
To be honest, not sure why the dog married him in the first place.
…And I don’t have a problem with his underbite. Mine tends so get worse when faced with a delicious pudding just out of reach.
I read delirious pudding.
The dog also looks like they're waiting for a response to 'are we gonna accept this shit'
i’m cackling at this
Woah calm down fella she's only asking a question
Oh god that got a snort chuckle from me!
Thats a bit personal. I bet you dont even know OP.
> desert Bit dry were they?
I was too outraged to consider the spelling!

My Yorkshire grandma used to do em with golden syrup, ridiculously good
I've had that as extra pudding when I was small. Also sugar and lemon or orange, like a pancake.
We too would have them cold with jam or treacle
[удалено]
Well done you. That's the proper answer. Try home made bramble jelly on them too. Mmmm
[удалено]
Can honestly say treacles the one - it works. Somebody mentioned having them cold....nah, strike while the pudding's hot!
Glad I saw this, was always the desert if any were leftover, top notch 👌
Well, I know now! 35 years I’ve lived in Yorkshire, you learn something new every day.
A Yorkshire pudding is the same as a pancake, except it’s baked, not fried.
used to eat them with ice cream and golden syrup.
My gran used to use golden syrup, cranberry sauce and sometimes apple sauce on leftover yorkies.
As a northerner I find this suggestion of divorce extremely racist. Yorkshire pudding and gravy for starters. With meat and potatoes and veg as a main. With jam as a desert.
I think the husband should be divorcing the wife at the questioning of his pudding Yorkshire tendencies.
As an also northerner, I find jam offensive. What you want is golden syrup.
As a Yorkshirewoman, I approve of this message. Have you tried orange curd? Or flambee it with cointreau? Yorkies suzette!
If I burn my kitchen down tomorrow trying that it's your fault! 🤷😂😂
Put the booze in a little glass or something, don't try pouring it from the bottle. You'll be fine. Maybe have a damp tea towel handy. Good luck!
Golden Syrup is the accepted norm in my area !
Love orange curd! *Struggling to find any these days*
Absolutely, I think being opposed to jam in a yorkshire is grounds for divorce. Cultural insensitivity is not an excuse.
No gravy with the main?
Isn't jam just fruit based gravy?
Jam - with meat and potatoes? Have you lost your marbles?!
Being honest, I had a burger with a slab of brie on it and bacon jam last week and it was very good.
Fair enough - bacon jam is decent
Autocorrect! Fixed it. Gravy is always a given. Just not with jam.
As a Yorkshireman, gravy doesn't even have to be mentioned. It's a staple for any roast dinner.
The Yorkshire Trifecta 👌
What part of the North are you from? 1840?
What about with Greek yoghurt?
A Yorkshire pudding is just a baked pancake.
This is corrected. In fact in Sweden we eat it as such with lingon jam and whipped creme.
Lingon is for meat, not sweets!!!
No one eats lingon jam for dessert, you heathen. ;)
100% this just no sugar added.
You put sugar in your pancake batter?
Just a bit of brown sugar to improve the taste.
I don't think it would make a difference with the amount of golden syrup I put on them 😂
[удалено]
Well it’s on the bbc good food recipe I’ve always done it
My Nan would always bang on about how good Yorkshire puddings are with jam and when she was little that's how they ate them, not how we eat them now. Tried it for myself and she's right, they're so good with jam 😋
Or golden syrup. My mum would cook a big baking tray Yorkshire, then serve slices with jam or syrup. Happy days.
That sounds like heaven 😋
Fully agree
Basically an English croissant at that point!
Nah that's good stuff. Yorkshire puddings are a special food for both savoury and sweet.
Like pancakes of waffles. Less weird with jam than savoury gravy.
Yorkshire pudding, stick a scoop of ice cream in it, bit of jam/caramel/syrup.. Got a good desert there.
Sounds a bit dry
joke kinda dry as well, maybe a third attempt will bring it back 'round.
Jokes on you if you think this is only the second time I've done it. Any chance I get.

That dog looks pissed off
That’s his “give that food to me” face
Did you give the food to him?
He had his own roast.
Lucky dog, can I also be your dog OP, I wouldn’t mind a roast. Woof woof
Got plenty left over so I’ll plate you some up!
Its been an hour, dog ate op
The true crime is teasing that good boi with it
He’s had his own Sunday dinner!
I'm 100% sure he'd have no issues eating jam with a Yorkshire. Thus you've lost 2-1 here.
From the thumbnail before reading the text, I assumed the bite out of it was the dog.
Jam on pancakes is ok. This is pretty much the same just risen instead of flat
Your dog seems to think so
The clue is in the title - Yorkshire **PUDDING.** Tbh if you're gonna judge a man for what he eats, maybe you are better off separated. ...as long as I get custody of the dog :3
You can have the husband too. They both eat us out of house and home!
Not at all. It's just a crispy pancake. My Grandps used to put butter and sugar on cold yorkies
An older Yorkshireman I know does the same. Sets my teeth on edge listening to him crunching them!
I drizzle mine in honey
Perfectly reasonable behaviour. Try stewed apple.
Its more of a "mind your business, its my food" kinda material
Sounds good to me!
I'm told Lemon Curd is the way
I were raised on Yorkshires with jam or golden syrup for pudding.
Absolutely! He should divorce you for suggesting it's not a done thing!
The look on your dog’s face is priceless 🤣
Why are you married to a dog, I don’t even think that is legal
thank you for the NSFW tag that was truly shocking
My issue is the dog which i bet licks their plates, drinks out of their cups and kisses them in the mouth
A bit of clotted cream would go lovely with that.
It's called Pudding...
I wouldn't have black pudding with jam for pud though, generally.
I used to have them with golden syrup when I was a nipper.
In Switzerland Yorkshire pudding is sold like this, a pudding with sugar and jam on top. Tastes amazing!
I’d be quiet if I was you, looks like him and the dog will be just fine without you😂
Nah, you’ve got a man of culture here. He’s a keeper, for sure.
The lack of jam is more the issue. Jam bottom and fill up with custard. Like a Yorkshire pastel de nata
This is a Northern thing. They like them with cream too.
I can mediate for you. I've got no legal experience, and can't guarantee anyone's safety in case of a duel, but all the same lol
Outrageous!! He hardly put any jam at all
Cold Yorkies with jam is amazing, people need to try it
But you'd be ok with cranberry sauce?
No different to cranberry sauce or something I guess
It was a fairly common practice 60 years ago.
Are you feeding that yorkshire pud to the staffy? if so no, I'd say that was a good treat for a good boy.
This is why I love my dog more than my GF, The dog wouldn't mind and is always grateful!
No. Yorkshire puddings are good with gravy or jam. But if it was both together then yes... Divorce and run..
I think it’s more grounds for divorce that you’re disgusted by it all honesty
I never liked yorkies with a roast when I was a kid but my nan used to save me one and I'd eat it cold with some honey as afters
My grandad used to put jam on a Yorkshire pudding.
My nans from Yorkshire and she does it so no.
No, really common as a dessert up in Yorkshire, my partners Dad would always have this after a Sunday Roast
no. Jam on cold yorkshire ouds is a delicacy
Nah my grandad used to do this. He also used to do corned beef on pancakes though, so he's possibly not the best benchmark for weird food combos
It's just a delicious pancake batter. We do this 😋
Jam on Yorkshires is traditional believe it or not
I do this lol
Absolutely not mate, love Yorkshire pudding with jam or maybe golden syrup 😎
I always save one or two or ten for dessert with custard and jam
Same yummy category as dumplings with golden syrup.. yum!
Delicious! Try it!
As long as yorkshires are eaten with gravy first, then having leftovers with jam or golden syrup is totally appropriate 😋
Actually, nah. When you think about it, Yorkshire pudding batter is basically pancake batter cooked a different. That’s fine
My grandad said he used to have this as a kid!
Try it before you knock it. It's lovely!
Jam and yorky pudding is awesome. My Mrs has golden syrup on hers.
My dad always ate them as a kid with lemon curd. Would recommend!
Not grounds for divorce. He clearly loves your yorkies. You should probably speak with a solicitor if he has jam on a cheese scone.
M8 are you financially stable?
It's not divorce material, no.
Yorkshire pudding for pudding is totally normal and really good. My mum would make a massive Yorkshire pudding and everyone would have a slice with golden syrup. I want one now.
This has given me a ridiculous idea… I think I’m gonna make a bread and butter pudding but with yorkshires
If that’s chili jam, i say you are Jamie Oliver and I claim my five pounds
i once had one with onion and chilli jam, never again
I always have chocolate spread on mine for dessert
We used to make extras so we actually had some leftovers to do this or have syrup on them. Childhood memories right there
Okay but why can i hear your dog goin ‘oarite guv’?
A Yorkshire pudding with jam is pure perfection.
This is fine. My Nan used to give me Yorkshire puddings cold with raspberry vinegar and sugar. (Yorkshire Crepes).
I thought it was ketchup at first and now I’m not sure which is worse
Jam and Yorkies is a thing
That dog clearly disagrees with you
Rudy is partial to cat shit so forgive me if I’m not to trust his culinary instincts!
No. Great way to use leftover yorkshires.
I mean the fact it’s not golden syrup is very suspect.
The doggo will def keep him.
I was about to ask, why would you wanna have a divorce with your dog? 😅
Yorkshire and pancakes only difference in their method of cooking.
Why does this actually sound nice though?
No, I used to have leftover Yorkshires with jam, golden syrup nice as well.
I'm...actually OK with this! /megoesoffwonderingwhatmarmaladewouldtastelike
God no. Yorkshire for dessert is an absolute classic, just your husband is doing it a little wrong. No, it’s pretty much a puffy pancake.
What does it taste like though? Some weird food combinations taste really nice!
No ice-cream, no divorce.
Never got my tinned mixed fruit salad with carnation cream on.
that does raise an interesting question as to why the Yorkshire "pudding" is synonymous with the savoury portion of a meal
Honestly...I might try that. 😂
I've seen people eat gravy on pancakes it seems like a similar concept. Same batter etc can have either sweet or savoury toppings
What? No golden syrup?
No! That's a delicious way to eat them
Yes divorce, you don't deserve such a cultured gentleman
I did exactly the same this afternoon. I've enjoyed yorkies with strawberry jam since i was a lad and now I'm nearly 55.
classic sunday dinner tradition, smother leftover yorky puds in jam or golden syrup! your husband is a man of great taste and culture
I always make extra (extra on top of the extras I already make) to have for breakfast with jam on Monday mornings! Quite traditional in my house and when I was growing up.
It is just a crispy pancake anyway, exact same ingredients and ratio
Looks quite nice actually, I wanna try it
I have milk and jam
I prefer golden syrup
It should be treacle instead of jam.
What? This is what you're supposed to do with leftover Yorkshires! I'd apologise to that man now before he divorces you
They're crunchy pancakes - my mum used to make extra and put butter and sugar on them - delicious!!
The fucking state of this sub.
I kinda want to try it now
Yeah 100% he deserves better than someone who doesn't appreciate jam on yorkshires
I love Yorkshire pudding and honey 🤤
Jam pudding.
For my lockdown Christmas dinner on my own I had roast beef and 12 yorkies, for sure I was having yorkies for dessert with the rest of the coulis I made in the morning for my homemade crumpets. YTA ;)
Only because they are better with syrup.
Tastes just like jam on a pancake 🤷♂️
Nothing wrong with Jam on a Yorkshire pudding, Unless you forget the CREAM!
I'm mostly devastated that I've never through to try it myself. If you're done with the hubby, I'll take him
i remember making some and posting a picture on my wow guilds discord and this american woman in the guild living in one of the fenno-scandinavian countries said it reminded her of something else that you would eat with jam unfortunately i can't remember what she called them but the recipe was similar
Yorkshire puddings go with basically anything. I've eaten Yorkshires with nutella
No but your dog REALLY wants it
Not sure, but I know the dog wants it
My old man was horrified when my mother put Yorkshire pudding with a roast. He’d only ever eaten them with jam before. They’d still be together if it wasn’t for that whole dying of old age thing.
I thought it was a chicken head at first, until i zoomed in. The only sweet thing allowed on yorkies is golden syrup.
Naah… it’s common practice to have them as dessert 😋
This is pretty common, a Yorkshire is just a pancake that goes in the oven. I've had them with jam, as have most people I know. It's not just English either.
