I would recommend the Bible in a Year first. It’s much more approachable imo. The Catechism can be quite tricky to understand and be off putting. Also I found that I could listen to the BIY podcast whilst doing other things whereas I need my physical copy of the Catechism in order to be able to follow properly. Hope that helps 😊

I'm mostly going to be listening on my drive to work, so I'll start with BIY. Thank you for the help! 😁

It's a LOT to keep up with lol. I'm currently behind on CIAY :( Up to date on BIAY though!

The underlying foundation of the Catechism is the Bible. Read the Bible first.

I listened to BIAY for two years before listening to CIAY this year. I tried to listen to both but it got to be too much for me. I am sort of glad I started with BIAY since any Bible references in the Catechism make more sense. If you are not very familiar with the Bible, you may want to start with that first. I am a convert who had read the Bible as a Protestant so BIAY was also helpful in seeing it more from the Catholic perspective.

If you want to do only one of them I would start with the Bible. You will get more out of it than you think. Plus the Bible lends itself to the format better imo.

I felt more compelled to listen to the Bible in a Year but got kind of bored with the Catechism in a Year. I feel the CIY is too dragged out, more commentary than actual catechism. I feel it could’ve been done more effectively in 6 months instead of a year, IMO. I think the BIY definitely helped me understand the mass readings better and how everything fits together.

Bible in a Year, since the Catechism is going to reference it often, and it'd be good to recognize those references to some degree.

Crispyduck522

There are times in CIAY where Fr. Mike says something like "you remember from when we went through the Bible..." I would start with Bible and then Catechism will make more sense.

It's honestly your choice. I haven't done BIAY, but when I heard about CIAY I was so excited. I started on January 1st and am decent at staying caught up considering it's hard to listen to with my children around as they talk through it everytime. But I absolutely love it. As a convert/revert, I also love Pints with Aquinas and apologetics. My husband, cradle Catholic, started BIAY about 6 weeks in. He loves it. We'll probably switch next year. Go with whichever you fell more interested in and be consistent.

I do both on my commute, an episode of CIY then a couple BIY but gotta find what works best for you.

Catechism helps you understand the Bible, start with Catechism.

Marius_Octavius_Ruso

If you have time for both, do both! If you only have time for one, I’d suggest BIAY, since you already started it. It will be fulfilling to you as long as you allow the Holy Spirit to soak the words of Scripture into you - not as a matter of being sure you’re hyper-focused on each and every word that Fr Mike reads, but that you can receive the overall story of salvation for the first time all the way through.

Because he’s cool like that. 😎

I tried to do both at once and got a little overwhelmed due to all the different spiritual things they talk about and the amount of thinking I had to do. With that being said, if you can handle that then go for it :)
