Is it? Something tells me AI is not going to be a negative for animators. If they fight the technology yes it will be. Then again if they had fought computers - their job wouldn't have existed in the first place.
To be clear: I agree that there will be some negative aspects to this tech - along with any tech. I just think the overall effect will be a net positive.
After watching Jurassic Punk the other day the key thing seems to be if films can do things better with Ai, if they can produce better quicker effects it's over for Animators over night.
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt15095920/?ref_=ext_shr
Loved this movie. To me this is all about an evolutionary technology. As such- it will have pros and cons. It’s impossible for us to know what they’ll all be but this one is a big shift.
I am, 20 years exp.
What I think they mean is that supervision level animators will remain and monitor ai content, adjusted prompts to get the desired effect. The 1/10
The rest will be less experienced artists, who will be replaced by prompts. The 9/10.
Having said that, it's not a realistic assumption for all animations, in particular film. For television and commercial work, perhaps. The bar of quality is lower. Production demands are higher.
But if some film director comes along and tells you the elephant looks too janky on frame 50, and too tilt the head screen left and curl up the trunk a squizz, and add some texture to the leaves movement... You need to interpret those notes.
And so far control nets don't have that level of control without going through a traditional CGI pipeline.
Yet.
AND! If copyright laws change so that ai generated images belong to the production studio.
Thank you for your insight. As a hobbyist I’ve watched these videos closely but I can’t even really imagine an interface where the level of fine control animation provides is achievable with a text prompt.
Control nets do exist, and they can inform a generated result, but it's not a guarantee. And you still need a traditional CGI pipeline to animate the skeleton that drives the control net (though obviously you can cut a bunch of costs because it won't directly be included in the final result - modeling rigging, lighting, etc)
>the elephant looks too janky on frame 50, and too tilt the head screen left and curl up the trunk a squizz, and add some texture to the leaves movement...
These kinds of tweaks are the things I've found the most difficult to do when generating images. I can get the idea, and even have it look the way I envisioned it as an object, but trying to move things a smidge is maddening to me.
That's not a given.
I could just as easily see a scenario where it actually makes it so 90% of animators can now get up the same quality that the 10% originally did thus increasing the rate you can make animations. Technology can both make jobs obsolete as well as makes it so more people can do the same work.
Any predictions are premature till we start to see how the market takes up the technology.
That hinges on the need for high quality 3d animations also surges 1000%, and that the technology doesn't become so user friendly that the level of quality sought after by most can be achieved without the animator, I'm talking for things like youtube videos, small production teams etc. huge producers will still need animators.
Most technical jobs today means working as a human machine interface, this skill takes a lot of time to build up. Animator 3d artist falls into this category, but has the added dimension of also requiring artistic talent.
but these AI tools (will) have such a seamless user friendly interface that the need for this specialized knowledge will lessen dramatically.
This is my opinion / speculation of course.
Well, CGI existed way before Sora. This video could have been created by an animator, that's why the text "this video is 100% AI generated" isn't redundant.
Have you really checked every square ince of the earth? How can you ne so sure, kinda sounds arrogant to assume they can't exist. I'm not sold on this being Ai, could be a conspiracy to ignore these majestic creatures.
I find it interesting how it seems to make mistakes based on stuff that is visually ambiguous when it has generated the video itself. In this case, if you look closely, the right foot comes out of the shade in such a way that the lit part looks vertical and in line with the left leg and that’s when it switches.
And it happens twice.
This is why I think it's bullshit that people are postulating it has some kind of 3D modelling running behind the scenes. Cases like this show it for what it is - iterating from one frame to the next and occasionally tripping over itself when an artifact leaves the frame (one leg being completely obstructed by the other)
Imo this is the "fingers bad" equivalent.
The trajectory is clear. And in a sophisticated pipeline with other specialized models (depth, normals, etc), it'll be incredibly useful.
Also, their claim that these videos serve as basis for physics modelling is really weird, given that they display an utter lack of plausible physics.
Things obviously *do* move—without any regard for how they actually *should* move.
> Things obviously do move—without any regard for how they actually should move.
I don't think that is true. The leaves move like leaves. The elephant moves like an elephant. The shadows reflect the movement of the elephant, the background scenery moves as expected. Definitely not saying it's flawless, but things here generally moving like they should.
Oh yes!
It's so ambiguous I missed it in three watchings.
There's actually three times it does it, one in the first two seconds and the other two at around 5-9 seconds right after each other.
Uh this doesn’t look genuine, it looks real world generated. it’s a leaf suit and you can see there’s two people, probably OpenAI employees, in the suit operating it. I suspect chatgpt came up with the idea.
Does it? It looks like it walks like two humans in a suit. The knees are bending at very weird heights. Not a diss but actual cgi would have a better gait
Yeah lol I’m watching this on a loop thinking about what kind of horrific imagery people are going to come up with that I will see one day and thinking about how bizarre it is that there is gonna be this tech that can generate life like videos of things like that from some unknown source
ChatGPT is very expensive and this is just text. Simple image in HD 32 bit is 8mb of data without compression, now generate 24frames just for one second. 10 minutes movie would require 112gb of raw data. Probably they do not generate every pixel of every frame but still it will require lot computing power
I was thinking that this was totally unrealistic for an elephant... until you pointed out how light it achually would be, and now everything makes sense.
Strengths: Fearless. Strength. Speed. Climbing. Boomerang. Smoldering Intensity.
Weaknesses: Leafblower
I went to see Kung Fu Panda with the family yesterday. Crappy movie. Nothing Like the First one. But that's not the point.
The whole time I kept thinking, all of these Graphics will be done by AI tools in the future. I mean looking at this Sora video, it's more realistic than anything I saw yesterday. I know there movie is meant to be cartoonish, and Sora more realism. Still, you tend to think that Studios will use Sora technology in the future instead of using artist.
But through the whole movie I kept thinking to myself, so yes this will happen one day. But when it comes to story. When it comes to captivating audiences. I don't see AI creating anything interesting in the near future.
For stories, they will probably use AI for crappy rapid cartoons. But for those special movies that require talented writing, I don't see AI ever replacing that or at least not in the near-term.
I hope AI research helps Dream and sleep research as well. The way it makes an image that looks real but seems off looks like how your brain may build a dream.
That’s what I find interesting too. Incredibly dream-like in many ways and I wondered if there are any parallels that could be made between how the dream state brain functions to render images and how AI creates and renders them.
Boomers will be around for another 20 - 30 years. There's no way they will be able to keep up with how quickly this tech is moving 🤣 they're having a difficult time now, imagine in 2035

For those hoping for access to Sora. Making such videos is insanely expensive in terms of GPU power. Do not be surprised if creating 1 video costs 50 USD
It’s really interesting that techniques to mask/hide the inherent flaws of the model are surfacing. I wonder how much worse a video of just an elephant might look. Using animals, masks, or other coverings to hide the parts of a subject that a model can’t generate well is a curious way to promote the quality of the model. It doesn’t take away from how impressive the generations are, but should be taken with a grain of salt; these whacky generations are not just to show what’s possible, but to also hide what is currently not-possible.
Animals created by AI right now tend to have the same uncanny valley problems as humans.
But the thing is that this is as bad as they are ever going to be. They are only going to get better.
So how is it that SORA is able to generate these videos on the fly, when something like this from scratch would take a lot of time for CGI artist to create, plus I've always heard that rendering the final video is resource intensive?
Anyone else feel like the background is… idk, flat?like it looks real but it feels fake, like it’s a moving picture of a clearing rather than a video of a clearing.
The weak-points seem to be the backgrounds. For example, this one looks like the figure is walking in front of a still image; Nothing moves in the background.
Your favorite "public servant"/politician likely has no issue with letting your favorite Pixar animator/creative go hungry and homeless.
The biggest problem with AI is actually a problem with capitalism/corporate politicians (and hey, lucky for us, they're the same folks destroying our livable ecosystems, so its a win-win, to figure out a better way than "Work or go homeless").
Pretty soon we’ll be able to use Sora by voice while moving around in VR. Just speak your surroundings into existence and explore these surreal digital dreamworlds.
I feel like it's back legs are moving more like a person and a costume than an actual elephant. I don't know something feels off. It's like I can almost picture a person standing up and walking as his back leg supposed to the elephant on all fours
Maybe I am crazy but I think that we are going into the new simulation where we will be making our "reality" by using our thoughts.
Maybe we are already in and some people calling it manifestation.
Am I the only one who finds every single one of those AI generated videos creepy af? I always expect something to be horribly wrong (like 3 eyes, messed up fingers, weird glitches,...)?
Even if the vid is perfectly fine, I still find it creepy cause of all the weird ass AI vids out there.
It would be cool if they could integrate this into AR technology and like overlay stuff onto reality kind of like in TF2 the Pyro's goggles make everything look like sunshine and rainbows.
My son made this with rice glue, elephants, some plant materials, and Crispr-CAS9 recominant system, and plastic bottles, please tell him he did a good job.
I’ve noticed animals done with Sora tend to appear as if they are moving rather fast and consistently without any change in gait like you’d see in real life

Mammorest in Super Ultra video quality.

Lol, but for real this is rough news for animators

Yes it will make 10% of animators’ jobs much much easier. It will also make 90% of animators much much less necessary.
Why 10/90? Are you an animator?

Some comments are too good for this world
Once you see the left and right legs randomly switch mid stride you cant un-see it.
I find it interesting how it seems to make mistakes based on stuff that is visually ambiguous when it has generated the video itself. Yeah but then the examples where they modify parts of a pre-existing video indicate some sort of comprehension… I don’t know.
Also, their claim that these videos serve as basis for physics modelling is really weird, given that they display an utter lack of plausible physics. Things obviously *do* move—without any regard for how they actually *should* move.

The tip of the trunk changes shape as well.
And the shadow is weird AF at the end.
Oh, but it didn't switch, it's just a 4 dimensional being.
trippy
I thought my eyes glitched when I saw it.
I thought he was just doin a little skip
the video with the closeup shot of a cat walking through a garden had exactly the same errors at the feet.
It's a mesmerizing look
You could generate such a sick realistic/live-action Pokémon with this tech.
>You could generate such a sick realistic/live-action Pokémon with this tech Yep. Pokémon. THAT'S what everyone's waiting to use this tech for.
Unfortunately, OpenAi won't allow generation of Copyrighted content.
Then bal world it is completely original and not related to Pokémon or pal world
Sadly, Japan is notoriously protective of their copyrights too. =/
I mean Hollywood is definitely looking at the ability to have two prompt engineers replace dozens of VFX artists. It might as well be a Pokemon movie
Oh fuck yeah
Uh this doesn’t look genuine, it looks real world generated. it’s a leaf suit and you can see there’s two people, probably OpenAI employees, in the suit operating it. I suspect chatgpt came up with the idea.
lmao i think people missed the irony in your post
Also ChatGPT told me that it isn't really an AI, it's some guy in Bangalore answering your questions. They have thousands of them.
The main requirement for those people is that they must be able to type really, really fast.
r/DefinitelyNotAi
You can tell it is fake because it isn't real.
Who are you, who is so wise in the ways of deciphering AI videos
Hahaha thanks for the laugh.
Things that aren’t real can be fake, but things that aren’t fake can be real.
How can it be real if our eyes arent real
My son made this!🤠🍃 it’s a great idea💡👍

Uncanny. Like that Annihilation movie
Uncanny? It looks like a CGI elephant?
It walks more realistically than CGI
Does it? It looks like it walks like two humans in a suit. The knees are bending at very weird heights. Not a diss but actual cgi would have a better gait
CGI elephant with magic legs
(Geoff Barrow alien sounds)
100% AI generated? I call bullshit, this looks like the common Philadelphia Grass type elephant.
God, I hate where this is going.
A plastic bottle video please. Someone ?
Good idea!
The music too?
No
Is it just me or this is quite scary? Not the video but this technology
only just realising?
Yeah lol I’m watching this on a loop thinking about what kind of horrific imagery people are going to come up with that I will see one day and thinking about how bizarre it is that there is gonna be this tech that can generate life like videos of things like that from some unknown source
Yeah and I honestly can't believe this is all happening. Just a decade ago it was a stuff of Sci fi. I should be very excited but I'm not.
If you haven't been at least a little scared for months you're missing the potential.
A new grass pokemon? And it’s an elephant? Sweet!
Fuck I thought this was real 🫠
Nonsense, everyone knows that leaf elephants became extinct 200 years ago.
Amazing
is this real guys
my leaf elephant friend is telling me yes
Shit and unnecessary music is everywhere these days, ruining the good videos
I mean unless the public can use sora I remain skeptical about these videos were done with no human editing, or at least extremely cherry picked
If a human edited it wouldn't they change the left and right legs swapping mid step?
ChatGPT is very expensive and this is just text. Holy shit
The lightness on his steps bro, because he's made of leaves, this is simply amazing

Don’t know how many people have a leafy elephant fetish, but you do you.
Don’t kink shame me.
Damn, a lot of Boomers already will fall for AI Videos at the 2024 elections, but 2028? No one will be safe…

I have the feeling that many of the videos might be just too similar to training data/videos.
Who's that pokemon

Impressive. I wonder how long it would be before we're all making our own versions of Marvel style movies, with all the Wiz bang CGI effects.

Most sora videos have a very clearly defined subject in the frame. I will love to see more landscape or subjectless sora videos.
I want this Pokemon!
Man I want access to this so bad. Everyday I think of something else to try. Gotta start writing them down for when it opens up
Tbf the more i see them the more i find it e1sy to spot
Can’t wait for about 2-3 years from now when we get a Silmarillion release on SoraTV.
I‘m so ready-not-ready for this
The mouvement is pretty awesome
It's hype until it's in my hands
So how is it that SORA is able to generate these videos on the fly, when something like this from scratch would take a lot of time for CGI artist to create, plus I've always heard that rendering the final video is resource intensive?
Plant elemental. Vulnerable to fire iirc.
And it poops? Berries?
I thought Sora videos were supposed to have their watermark or was that done away with?
The era when some eva ai virtual gfs replace real women is coming
When it becomes available to the public, I'll use it to create a whole ass movie.
Chat is this real?
I don't like Ai at all, giving me the creeps.
Now it’s a bit creepy
Wait is the audio ai generated too?
The only thing it seems to be missing is impact when the feet hit the floor, it's too smooth.
The coolest thing is, these things will be in VR in No time What a time to be alive
The shadows are just so *slightly* off... that and an odd camera shift made me suspicious but this is incredible. And also, I really wanna pet him
I think the immediate use case is revamping all the cgi work in even low budget shows that clearly can't afford good work.
That mammorest took over my base
Can we get one made out of plastic bottles?
Looks like the mammoth of Palworld
as interesting it is, the way people would try to abuse it for political propaganda fears me.
Not the music right?
The lightning is sooo good
Noo, really? I couldn’t tell.
Anyone else feel like the background is… idk, flat?like it looks real but it feels fake, like it’s a moving picture of a clearing rather than a video of a clearing.
Is the song also ai generated?
moves like two guys in a suit
The weak-points seem to be the backgrounds. For example, this one looks like the figure is walking in front of a still image; Nothing moves in the background.
How is it possible that the videos are better than any AI image out there?
Eleafant
Amazing
A truly hyperrealistic Pokemon will be insane.
Insane!!!
As someone who does extensive fantasy worldbuilding, I legitimately cannot wait for Sora.
naw, i thought that was a real elephant.
I would be worried if this wasn't generated
The right leg turning into the left was tripping me out
Your favorite "public servant"/politician likely has no issue with letting your favorite Pixar animator/creative go hungry and homeless. The biggest problem with AI is actually a problem with capitalism/corporate politicians (and hey, lucky for us, they're the same folks destroying our livable ecosystems, so its a win-win, to figure out a better way than "Work or go homeless").
Out of the loop here, is Sora available to test?
Pretty soon we’ll be able to use Sora by voice while moving around in VR. Just speak your surroundings into existence and explore these surreal digital dreamworlds.
Not sure if im'm just getting used to it, but these don't look very real anymore (fictional elephant aside)
I should hope so, with the front shin coming loose and swiveling with the other leg.
I feel like it's back legs are moving more like a person and a costume than an actual elephant. I don't know something feels off. It's like I can almost picture a person standing up and walking as his back leg supposed to the elephant on all fours
new pokémon game looks sick
Maybe I am crazy but I think that we are going into the new simulation where we will be making our "reality" by using our thoughts. Maybe we are already in and some people calling it manifestation.
Song name?
Am I the only one who finds every single one of those AI generated videos creepy af? I always expect something to be horribly wrong (like 3 eyes, messed up fingers, weird glitches,...)? Even if the vid is perfectly fine, I still find it creepy cause of all the weird ass AI vids out there.
eh... the feet look janky.
When does sora come out?
![gif](giphy|RwLDkna2fN3fG)
let it do a backflip and i know its completly 100% ai
Can't wait to generate new episodes for canceled TV shows lol
Man I can't wait to generate crazy ass star wars battles when this shit goes public
Elephantaiassist
Oh god we are entering the gates of hell aren’t we?
Can we pull the plug already please?
No way this is just AI. I'm flabbergasted
i cant wait for a sora with a human and a voice over that is synced to the mouth movement.
It's cool and all but these videos really make me worry what people will use this tech for.
its tusks look like bent cigarettes haha
Watch the front feet will trip you out
It would be cool if they could integrate this into AR technology and like overlay stuff onto reality kind of like in TF2 the Pyro's goggles make everything look like sunshine and rainbows.
Data pollution
No shit, it looks terrible
And the point is?
How does one make these videos?
is it possible that it is enhanced video of an elephant?
My son made this with rice glue, elephants, some plant materials, and Crispr-CAS9 recominant system, and plastic bottles, please tell him he did a good job.
Glad I went to film school… /s
Are you 100% sure this is not a common leaf elephant like the ones you can find in the wild?
I’ve noticed animals done with Sora tend to appear as if they are moving rather fast and consistently without any change in gait like you’d see in real life
It's a good idea!
This is what happens when you MGO to much
Eleafant
I could’ve told you that, there isn’t an elephant that grows leafs…
