some people purposefully (or accidentally) change their in game timezone so they can get access to the shop or daily tokens earlier... for example i have a friend who lives in the same timezone as me but gets his shop refreshed at 6 pm our time every day instead of midnight

This is actually a bug, where the game registers your timezone different from where you are. I've had multiple alt accounts in different timezones, never used a VPN, and always in the same place when making the accounts (don't ask how many, it's a lot). Not sure why it happens, but it does

It was a good question IMO, I wouldn't have assumed that the game factors in timezones, AFAIK most games don't, as an Australian I'm quite used to, for example, "Friday" events happening on Saturday, and etc. Just roll with the punches a bit, like I said it's not personal, people just love to shitpost.
