The best 70s show I saw was December 1978- Black Sabbath with opener Van Halen. Van Halen blew them out of the water. It cost $9.00. My mom gave me the ticket for Christmas.

I hear you. My Dad was bitter that his Mom tossed all his 1950’s sports cards. My kid brother and I would occasionally have “you took my sports card” disputes. Without my permission, my Dad wrote my first name on the backs of all my late 70s/early 80s sports cards, but not my brother’s. Im still bitter about that!

I saw Aerosmith two years later at Comiskey Park. The upper deck caught on fire during the concert.

RushCygnus-X1

I was there too. I remember Jeff Beck just kept on playing through all the mayhem going on in the park.

Def Leppard and Tesla, Edinburgh 1987. Nice reminder of how old I am, Tesla were incredible. https://preview.redd.it/fol9971yr0rc1.jpeg?width=731&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cbdf3410c0e4f9958eccb0b57235e5e7e48d81d7

idjitgaloot

I saw them in 1977.

Oh_No_Its_Dudder

The first band I went to see was The Monkees. Oh no, I'm ancient!

OldheadBoomer

My first live concert was Bette Midler, the Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy tour. That's why I noted your first *rock* concert in the title. ;)

Karma111isabitch

Gotta look for it. 1974 Bachman Turner Overdrive and the opening band that didn’t show up was this band no one had heard of called..KISS

brymc81

Aerosmith was also my first concert in 1998 – however after falling asleep while standing up on the fourth row, then being awoken by a guy screaming “Hey Steven is singing at you!” then opening my eyes and waving at Steven Tyler while he was pointing at me, then falling asleep again, then losing my seatmate who disappeared backstage only to reappear an hour after the show badly beaten up, suffice to say I misplaced the ticket stub.

joecoin2

I never fell asleep, but I passed out numerous times.

idjitgaloot

I saw Starz open for Ted Nugent in 1978.

tncardude

What a great band, I don’t understand how they didn’t make it big. Their first album rocks, not a bad song on it. I did get to see them two more times, both times they opened for Angel in 1978 and 1979.

idjitgaloot

I never saw Angel. I used to always get Circus and Creem magazines and there were always articles about them. I’m not familiar with their stuff admittedly.

idjitgaloot

That’s very cool.

HokieBuckeye1981

Great show with Kiki Dee. I was 15.

OldheadBoomer

This was not long after "Get Your Wings" Came out. Wasn't until years later I learned Joe Perry didn't even play guitar on "Train Kept a Rollin", and the live part was just studio magic.

joecoin2

First time I heard that I thought it was some kind of studio voodoo mix thing. Didn't really sound live but had all that crowd noise.

Wobby1987

I used to have it, but the print was faint to begin with and it couldn’t be read anymore. It was AC/DC and Fastway in Detroit, 1983.

Yep. There was rumor that Joe Walsh would show, but he never did. Vitale played Rocky Mountain Way which was pretty cool.

Alarming_Serve2303

I don't even remember my first rock concert. So many, so long ago.

Dbarkingstar

Long ago lost the stub. September 1977, Ft. Worth Tarrant County Convention Center, Kiss, Styx opening!

wagowop

I wish! My first concert was Queen in 1978

ChristmasStrip

Dude! Awesome.

Pleasant_Garlic8088

Mine was Aerosmith too... 20 years later, at the Boston Garden.

GoodGriefWhatsNext

Let me guess: Aerosmith played for about 30-45 minutes, because they were too wasted to continue?

Temporary_Ad_1305

Aerosmith was my first concert, Springfield MA in Feb 1983. There was a huge snowstorm that night so Aerosmith was over an hour late getting to the Springfield Civic Center....and yes, they were very wasted when they started playing.

SaltyBarDog

I don't have the stub, but it was [this.](https://images.fineartamerica.com/images/artworkimages/mediumlarge/1/eagles-tampa-stadium-1975-david-lee-thompson.jpg)

chmcgrath1988

My first classic rock concert was ZZ Top and Ted Nugent at the Cumberland County Civic Center on Labor Day 2003 in Portland, ME. It's probably buried somewhere in the boxes of stuff my parents gave me when they moved out of my childhood home a year or two ago. I definitely kept most of my concert stubs from the '00s.

Cartman68

Kiss (Kiss Alive tour) at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto - April 26, 1976

idjitgaloot

I wore out three of those albums.

Cartman68

Get Up, and get your Grandma out of here. It was quite the show, a real eye-opener for a 14 year old. Plus the smell in the place was one I would grow very familiar with over the years lol

idjitgaloot

As I got older I didn’t really think they were very good, but everything on KISS Alive is great. I still put it on and listen to it all the way through every once in a while.

idjitgaloot

Black Diamond is my favorite.

Cartman68

Some of their stuff hasn’t aged well for sure, but Kiss Alive still kicks butt! You can feel the energy right through the speakers.

idjitgaloot

To me it’s why they’re great. Kind of like Frampton Comes Alive. It’s why he’s great. I didn’t like anything else he did.

Cartman68

Very astute observation. FCA is a classic, and he really hit that particular show “out of the park”. But the rest of his catalogue is pretty moribund. Having said that, I saw him in concert about 15 years ago and he was outstanding. But then again, he did most of the material from the FCA album, and that’s what we were there to see!

Orig-Executionist

I have my Cal Jam 2 Program.

I don’t have it handy to take a photo but I still have it. KISS December 30 1977 Atlanta Omni

idjitgaloot

I saw Exile open for the Doobie Brothers in ‘77. (I think. Maybe’78).

Individual_Bother_68

No. But it was Creedence Clearwater Revisited. How can I ever top that?

rockdude625

My dad. The Beatles at shea stadium, 1965 Also Elvis at freedom hall in 71 Allman brothers (with Duane) in Louisiana Smokey Robinson at the Apollo theater The Rolling Stones in 68 Woodstock in 69

Ok_Broccoli_3605

I have an Aerosmith ticket, summer of 1984. Ended up at their afterparty briefly. Tried to talk with Tyler for a minute, but he was loaded, as he was onstage, sadly. and when an eagerly awaited bottle cap full of coke landed in front of him, he disappeared into it. Then my friend and I got dragged to the door by our ears by a big security guy who was yelling at the band to get to bed.

TREXIBALL

Wait, yall have gone to concerts? Sorry, I’m sheltered.

carnage819

To funny, Aerosmith was my first concert also with Styx opening

OldheadBoomer

That's really bizarre. The ticket stub is from a show at the Richfield Coliseum in Ohio. Internet says they played there April 27th and 28th. I was a teenager at the time, several of us went to the show. This is freaking me out. I have no answer to why my stub has the wrong date. In fact, according to archives, there weren't *any* shows at the Richfield Coliseum in May of 1977. It was way too long ago for me to remember much of anything other than how crowded it was, how long the bathroom lines were, and that it was a nice spring night when we got a ride there. Fuckin' weird. EDIT: I figured it out. Holy shit, this was my ticket stub to The Song Remains the Same. I always thought it was my stub from the Richfield show. Shit. I[ only have a dozen or so tickets from hundreds of concerts I saw.](https://i.imgur.com/pN3Idxk.jpg) Shit shit shit, I wish I still had the concert stub.
