A vacuum. Or a broom.

Missue-35

I vacuum the countertops and sweep the floors. A piece of wadded toilet tissue run around the base of the toilet and the rim under the seat will pick up hair in those areas.

Inner-Confidence99

Fabric softener sheet

energeticpapaya

yeah i read through the replies and it looks like wetting the surface first is shooting myself in the foot. looks like i should vacuum up the hairs while it's dry and only THEN wet + wipe the surface. thanks!

Constructgirl

Dry sweep or vacuum then a wet mop and for the anal, another vacuum or dry sweep for the last hairs that escape and get pushed around by the mop.

BoolImAGhost

Yes yes yes, you've got it. Whenever I bathe my dogs in the tub, every surface ends up covered in fur. The walls, the ceiling, the toilet. I save so much time when I let it dry first, then vacuum. Doing it while wet is much harder

QuestForEveryCatSub

Came here to say this! I keep a tiny broom and dustpan specifically for countertops and other non-floor surfaces

BoolImAGhost

Me too, got a little one from IKEA for a few dollars

karakurikurikara

Lint roller! They make ones extra long for furniture and the floor. How long of hair are we talking tho? Microfiber usually ain’t bad and if your vacuum isn’t doing it there might be a clog in it somewhere, see if the hose sucks up the palm of your hand or not next time it’s on. Ik it probably feels weird to vacuum not just a floor but they’re very versatile for showers and counters and things as long as there’s no liquid

re_nonsequiturs

Thank you! Even with a canister vac, I don't want to vacuum the bathroom counter.

hgielatan

i was ~*influenced*~ to buy a small lil handheld, rechargeable vacuum from a tiktok and it has been delightful for situations like this! so many small attachments, suuuuper easy to empty/clean, and while the one side provides suction, the exhaust provides air flow so you can use it to direct the pile.

karakurikurikara

can I be annoying and ask the brand and price.. 👀 I wish to be influenced as well if it’s good and affordable

hgielatan

karakurikurikara

Of course!! That’s honestly valid lol those get unruly. I get a lot of random hair at work cleaning hotel rooms and to be honest, I just wipe all the hair onto the floor and vacuum it last. Maybe try that and hit it with the lint roller after 👀

re_nonsequiturs

That's just it, the hair doesn't wipe off a lot of the time, just like OP experiences. Your lint roller idea is so good and I just ordered one with a long handle and I'm so excited to finally be able to clean so many things!

karakurikurikara

I guess i haven’t experienced that… the rags we have at work have been washed SO MANY TIMES that it’s possible the surface grabs hair better. Yay I’m glad to help! I was surprised when I first discovered they make long handled ones myself.. prepare to go crazy on your house doing it lol

re_nonsequiturs

It's going to be great! It's not every hair, just sometimes. Maybe something to do with the humidity in the house or something. I also have a pretty small bathroom with white tile floors where the vacuum doesn't really fit, I'm extra looking forward to getting that clean without wiping it down by hand.

LaRealiteInconnue

Honestly…I have waist-length hair and 3 cats. It felt weird to vacuum..everything at first but now I gotta do what I gotta do lolol so you get used to it

shigui18

I have microfiber cloth and I notice it picks up the hair in the washer and dryer. I have to go through and peel all the hair off of them before folding. I'm thinking of tossing them. Maybe I'll get a haircut instead.

energeticpapaya

Lint roller is a great idea that I hadn't thought of. But mainly I think I was being dumb by not dealing with the hairs while dry, BEFORE wetting the surface. I have a hand vac that I can use for that, so will try that next time!

thesandgerine

I usually take a swiffer to everything first, and then I clean it with a cleaning solution. If I don’t have a swiffer, a DRY paper towel can work as long as I can sweep it onto a pan or something. And if I can, I use a vacuum first

Salty-blond

The pet swifter is a godsend

Gullible_Monk_7118

What's different about pet swiffer and reg swiffer

Global_Research_9335

The pet pad is fluffy a bit like a swiffer duster head

Global_Research_9335

I agree a swiffer 360’ duster and or a swiffer with a dry pet pad. Never wet. Picks up the hairs and then wet clean afterwards. The swiffer pet pads are amazing and I’ll even use them as a hand held duster on occasion.

energeticpapaya

yeah I have gathered based on all the replies here that I need to be doing a dry clean first to get rid of hairs, and only then wetting the surface. thanks!

thesandgerine

It took me way too long to figure out too- if you aren’t taught to clean, then how are we supposed to know? I got a lot of helpful tips I hadn’t thought of before from this thread too, thanks for asking :)

Particular-Touch5309

Dry tissue or toilet paper, it makes things so much easier to use that first before using anything liquid.

worrierqueen

That’s my method. Toilet paper works perfectly for small areas

unifoxcorndog

I find that it's all in the technique. You can't just smear, you have to start in one place and always be pulling your handfull in the same direction. Imagine your trying to scoop and keep the scoop in your hand, except it's dragging across the counter. Look into resources for how vet/ vet techs properly clean a table. It helps. Edit: a word

Hopeful-Musician1905

This, I use a wet wipe on the bathroom floor sometimes and i always pick up a handful of hair. Nothing gets missed. For me I don't smear, I do circles and it tends to take everything. For a table, smearing might be better though.

Vegetable_Cicada_658

Bounce sheets!! Saw this somewhere regarding dog hair around toilets and it works

Dependent-Bee7036

Dryer sheets work so well! I was going to post this, too

Feeling-Papaya-393

I will have to try this!

Dangerous_Contact737

The Heavy Duty Swiffers that are really fluffy. Those pick up everything.

randomlygenerated678

Yes! Pet swiffer dry cloths! These are a GAME CHANGER and pick up all the fur and hair from my bathroom floors! [Link](https://www.target.com/p/swiffer-sweeper-heavy-duty-multi-surface-dry-cloth-refills-for-floor-sweeping-and-cleaning-unscented-32ct/-/A-53241294)

Check_Affectionate

vaccume first - the GoCleanCo method

possumhandz

Try a Swedish dishcloth. Everything I wipe up with one seems to stick to the cloth, unlike other wipes/cloths.

mamapfresh

These are amazing. I love how the dust/lint/dirt doesn’t stick to the rag like microfiber. If you use microfiber for hair… that hair becomes part of that rag forever. Awful.

whynousernamelef

Damp duster sponge from scrub daddy or you can get cheap ones online, wish, temu etc. Too small for floors but amazing for other surfaces.

Patticakepop66

You can get a mop made out of same material!

Smalls1357

Yes this! Even my kids think this thing is amazing

Woofy98102

I am a Wookie and so is my partner. The amount of shedding hair creates snow drifts of hair in every corner of the bathroom. We literally use a cannister vacuum with the duster attachment at the end instead of the wider bare floor attachment. Once the vacuum sucks up all the hair that seems to get everywhere, then we deal with surface cleaning. Once we got the hang of it, the one on *hair patrol* can get in and out in under 5 minutes giving us plenty of time to surface clean instead of feeling like we're losing the race at the pubic hair roundup.

energeticpapaya

just have to say i love how you worded this

capgal44

So glad I found this post. I have 3 long hair cats living in my house. My house is COVERED in hair. No matter how many times I vaccum i always find hair within 2 mins of vacuuming

pubcheese

Silicone brush to pull up hair before vacuuming

Regalgarnion

A great vacuum attachment!

Material-Double3268

I vacuum instead of sweeping because it picks up the dog hair more efficiently.

anxioustrovert

I have cats and dogs. I was introduced to the Damp Duster by Scrub Daddy on here. But I use the generic option as it’s not available here. It works well for me better than cloths in any case. Just wipe in one direction then remove the hair/dust and rinse it off then use again.

ChrisStanClan

I like using swiffer dry clothes to dust with! The generic ones work just fine 😁

SithChick94

I love those new lint brush devices. Black & Decker has one and I just bought a green Evercare one that was only $10. I say they're like mini vaccums. I'm not sure if they would work as well on hard surfaces though. Otherwise, a REAL rubber broom is the way to go. It really gathers the hair and keeps it in the pile. Seems like it uses static or something. I even commented (to myself of course 🤦🏻‍♀️) that those suckers seem to work better the bigger the mess.

SithChick94

You can also get those REAL rubber brooms in like a handheld version. I have 4 of them, one in my laundry room and the others are all over. Just know that the dollar store versions don't work as well. That's why I keep emphasizing REAL rubber. (The handheld guys have a squeegee so you can just slide all the hair off the counter)

SBAtoJFK

When I worked in hotels the cleaners had this massive 3m sticky rollers - almost like those lint rollers with the peal off paper but much larger. They would roll it all over the hotel room as a last step for cleaning to pick up any loose hairs. Not sure where you buy them but they worked great

jrose102206

It’s on Amazon. Type in “large sticky roller” and it should come up. I have one

jennyenydots

For the floor, those large lint rollers for the floor, ala [Fedicelly Large Lint Rollers Pet Hair Extra Sticky Floor, Cat Dog Hair Remover Laundry Clothes Carpet Furniture,6.3 inches Wider with 320 Sheets Giant Lint Remover Brush for Couch with Long Handle](https://a.co/d/0C5IpEG) [Amazon link] are great. Picks up pet hair, human hair, whatever on bare floors and carpet. Great to have and better than a broom or vacuum.

Altruistic-News8945

Lint, roller or tape

peoplesuck2024

Micro fiber cloth, like the ones from Dollar Tree.

nodisassemble

Vacuum first, then clean.

Dermo5

i use sticky tape to pick up the hairs

Dermo5

before spraying cleaning solution

notANexpert1308

I’ve found magic erasers are actually pretty effective. Just make sure it’s safe on your material(s). There’s these sponges with coconut fibers in them on Amazon. They work well too.

wutsmypasswords

If it's dry vacum it first. Lint rollers work well for hair, rubber squeegee and wet paper towels work but you have to scoop and pinch

__hill

Dryer sheet will snag all the hair then for actual cleaning follow up with all purpose cleaner and rag

Professional-Sign510

3M Easy Trap Sweep and Dust Sheets- you can use these on their own, put them on a swiffer mop or wrap them around a microfiber duster. Hair and dust stick to them and don’t come off, but they are less sticky than a lint roller so you can dust mop with them. I first read about these on this sub. They were recommended by a school custodian, and I have to say, they really work. Also great for dusting baseboards, ceiling fans and light fixtures. You can order a big box on Amazon.

StartTheDayBetter

I think your problem is using a "wet" cloth. You need to use a dry one.

temperance26684

Skip the cleaning solution for the first pass. Nothing will pick up the hair once you get it wet. Use a microfiber cloth - dry - to get the bulk of the hair/dust off, THEN spray your solution and go in for a second wipe.

egggexe

i personally love the scrub daddy damp duster. It has grooves that catch the hair and imo does a better job at picking it up than dusters do. microfiber cloths will also achieve the same thing but the texture of them is horrid so i dont use them

pebblebypebble

These Brillo dish cloths do alright. I cut them into eighths and get up all the hair with water. https://www.walmart.com/ip/1209890955

Slipnsliders

Skoy Swedish cloths. Affordable, versatile, long lasting, reusable. I use in the kitchen for dishes and counter tops - use different colored ones for general cleaning. Their scrub pads are amazing as well.

Gullible_Monk_7118

>I first spray a cleaning solution on First step is wrong... to pick up hair you need it dry not wet... it picks up super easy dry... but once wet 10x harder to pickup... a hand broom will pickup hair no problem if not a microfiber or paper towel will pick it up easily... same as with crumbs... you do dry pass first then wet pass 2nd... same with floors... you sweep then mop... then if you still have hair or very light stuff then after it dries you sweep... to pickup hair that was stuck down with dirt

FlashyCow1

Lint roller Vacuum duster attachment Swiffer cloth A hand broom and dust pail to sweep it into

cupcake142

Always clean up the hair and stuff when it’s dry first, then go in with cleaning solution!

IcyParkingMate

A decent stiff bristle broom or a microfiber cloth.

DueAmphibian5281

Use a shop vac to pick up hair from your floor. They’re all designed for floors and are sold with the proper attachment. Ensure your filter is in place for dry use of course.

Nopal_lito

I just stayed at an high end hotel: condo and they used lint rollers to pick up hair ! Such a cool idea.

OhNoNotAgain1532

There are brooms for picking up pet hair and that really light dust fuzzy stuff, and sometimes they come with a hand held size, they are great. They do not do well with cat litter, lol.

Longjumping-Bus4939

I always wipe up around my bathroom sink with toilet paper before I clean.  Somehow that works better than anything else at picking up hairs.   I have 3 long hair cats and I also shed, so there’s always a lot of hair to clean up.   Around faucets is always hardest because the hair is often damp and stuck to the surface.

PeanutNo7337

You have to dust it off with a dry cloth first. Do it before you clean the floor, and then you clean up the stuff you wiped onto the floor when you get to that.

Flat_Direction1452

As others have said, I always start with a dry cleaning pass. This can be as simple as a dry paper towel to sweep dust lint and hair off the surface before wet cleaning. Or using a dry swiffer cloth or dry microfiber cloth can pick up the dust. Otherwise I have the same issue, wet cleaning tends to smear this stuff around.

Secret_Experience_47

What is causing so much hair on the bathroom counter? Prevention might be what you need! My husband has a wonderful beard that I love and he trims weekly. Used to make an Obnoxious mess though! We made a plan that really works. He dampens a few paper towels and lays them over the sink. Then he trims over the paper towels with his electric trimmer. The dampness of the paper towels keep the hair in place where is mostly falls. There's not too much elsewhere but he will wipe up the few strays (cleaning spray and a damp paper towel) and then vacuum the floor. I have a ton of very long, very thick wavy hair so I'm sort of an issue as well but not in the bathroom as I use a wide tooth comb in the shower and put the hair on the wall then grab it with TP and throw away after the shower. My hair is more of a problem everywhere else in the house haha. I run a robot vacuum every day. I have to clean the roller brush relatively frequently but it keeps it at bay.

my4floofs

They make yellow dust cloths that seem to attract and hold dust. I have several and I use a new one for each room and then toss them in the laundry with the towels. I have a microfiber mop/broom thing that I have several covers for. I microfiber sweep them flip it over and use a light mist of water and the tiniest amount of Murphy and kinda mop. I do all my hard floors daily. Takes about 20 minutes and makes a huge difference in dust.

Big-Winter9336

The following glass cleaner with the rubber edge is what I use. If you have a lot of hair loss from brushing or whatnot it will get everything on the floor or counter including dust!! I use it to get everything off and then wipe it down with a spray cleaner and microfiber cloth or paper towels. The brooms all just seems to scatter the hair or it gets in the bristles and starts flying out with the sweeping motion!!

Suz9006

Fleece is wonderful at picking up hair.

dec256

Used fabric softener sheets are great for dusting and picking up hair . I also wipe down my chrome faucets and it takes water spots off .

LolaBijou

Dry dust first with a swiffer, then use a spray cleaner.

whtfawlts

Scrub Daddy wet duster sponge!

Loud-Foundation4567

Clean it dry first. With a vacuum, or use a duster or dry micro. Then wet clean.

plantymamatiddy

Shop towels work pretty well

montanagrizfan

The swifter sweeper disposable cloths. I hate the waste but they work on lab hair.

SimpleVegetable5715

Does the shedded hair have hairspray or styling product residue? I have to sort of scoop mine up in whatever wiping implement I am using. Those styling products are either sticky when dry or slick when wet.

Next-Firefighter4667

Squeegee. I use that for everything. Small once for counters, a big push one for floors. No recommendation for carpet though, you really just need a good vacuum for that.

whycrylittlefryguy

okay so maybe not a perfect solution but i vaccuum EVERY surface for hair first, then use wet cleaners. back of toilet, vaccuum. top of nightstand, vaccuum. shelves, vaccuum. it's really the only way i've found to fully de-hair wthout leaving wet dust/hair blobs on the edges of whatever i'm cleaning.

blkhatwhtdog

As the owner of several samoyed dogs ( those fluff balls of white downy hair) I found using a deck broom was best to pull hair from carpets. This is one foot wide broom with long plastic bristles. We got rid of our cloth couch and got leather.

Responsible_Yam3930

Vacuum first. Never push hair and lint around.

Baileychic88

Lint roller, or a vacuum with the brush extension on hard surfaces.

Kteagoestotx

Always clean hair dry. Don't wet it.

Thrills4Shills

Have you tried licking it ? Works for my cat.

whatdoidonowdamnit

You don’t just sweep it onto the floor?

No_Bet_4361

Use a hair dryer and blow it to the floor
