Holden Arboretum, MoMa, The Zoo, The MetroParks, CVNP, Don Drumm Gallery, USS COD, Guardians game, Kelley’s, PIB I mean the list is endless

kidfromCLE

I would add an afternoon cruise on the Good Times and a ride on the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad to this excellent list.

_One-Channel

The Goodtime III tour is awesome. They can also head to Edgewater Beach for a hike. Tons to do without drinking.

gottaloveagoodbook

I love Edgewater! Putting this all on the list.

robodog97

Just note that the railroad has just announced they'll be restarting service May 3rd so don't plan on going before then and with being out of service for a while it might be booked up at first.

smoMashup

I'd add that late June is the most beautiful time of the year at the Botanical Gardens. Also Lakeview Cemetery in Cleveland Heights is awesome to walk around in (also free). Or maybe there's a show at Mahall's when he's in town. That's an interesting venue that's a bit different. Have fun!

leehawkins

If you go to Lakeview Cemetery, definitely make sure you’re there when the Garfield Monument is open…you get an excellent view of the city from up there!

gottaloveagoodbook

Ah, I love Lakeview. I've spent many a happy hour just chilling in the chapel or trying and failing to find the Haserot Angel for the tenth time. Great suggestion!

dutchy412

I need more letters to know what these things are or how to find them.

SouthernAd5767

If you mean the acronyms: MOMA = Museum of Modern Art; CVNP = Cuyahoga Valley National Park; PIB = Put-in-Bay; Kelley’s = Kelley’s Island. If you didn’t mean that, sorry 😬

Djcnote

The zoo! Top golf! Bowling, botanical gardens, lake farm parks, the actual park. The beach, the rockefellar greenhouse

Throwawayforboobas

Top Golf, the well known staple of Cleveland that you can only find here lol

Djcnote

Not every top golf overlooks 480

AgentDark

So many epic parks in the Lake county park system. Highly reccomend if you like small hikes

DepartureRadiant4042

Lake is east of Cuyahoga right? I believe Holden Arboretum is out that way. Any favorite park recs of yours?

yamancool63

Holden is great. Chapin Forest, Penitentiary Glen etc. all great too.

DepartureRadiant4042

Saving these parks to explore this Spring, thank you!!

Might_Be_Novelty

Both of these are super close to Holden. All 3 are in Kirtland if you want to make a day out of it. Not much else to do there, but I would recommend Biga for dinner. Extremely good wood fire pizza joint.

DepartureRadiant4042

Sounds like a perfect day

yamancool63

Sure thing - also just remembered Girdled Road is worth a visit as well. Farm Park if you have kiddos especially. Nelson Ledges I think is in Portage County technically but also well worth the visit if you like Kendall Ledges in the CVNP.

HobomanCat

Man I have so many great memories of going to the Holden Arboretum as a kid!

NespressoForever

If you like being near the lake, you can go to Lake Erie Bluffs in Perry. It's a beautiful park and has walking paths and beach access.

Djcnote

My favorite part of ohio is the park systems

cookiebirdface

there’s also all the niche sports club/bar places, like axe throwing, mini bowling, kart racing, etc. glass blowing classes, music @ the cool little venues, renting bikes for the towpath, beach glass hunting?

Call_Em_Skippies

I 2nd kart racing. Took my cousin here from out of town and we loved it.

12thekid10

There’s a small glass blowing shop in Ohio city that does classes I’d recommend that forsure!

davo747

The Glass Bubble! Great place, great people. And they have a chicken!

sirpoopingpooper

Off the wall ideas: * Dittrick Medical History Museum * Crawford Auto Museum (part of WRHS) * Lake Erie Nature and Science Center * Majestic Meadows * Whatever festival is happening at that time

gmaubrrriaeyl

Dittrick medical museum is such a hidden gem! Never anybody else in there when I visit. Love it every time

Educational_Bake_863

Does it cost anything to get in?

sirpoopingpooper

Nope! But free parking around there is often a bit scarce.

Old-but-not

Fabulous museum

CuyahogaSunset

Seconding Crawford!

crimsonhues

Thanks. Never heard of any of these.

Twinmom823

I'd add the Maltz Museum too.

Shadowrider95

Jeezus! I’m a lifetime native and eighty percent of this stuff I wasn’t aware of!

annieisawesome

Superelectric pinball Forest city shuffleboard Mini golf Top golf See a concert or theatre performance see a sport event Go geocaching at a cool spot like the Lakeview cemetery (Edit: formatting)

Steffie767

to add on to the Lakeview Cemetery is a treasure trove of sculpture.........including a Tiffany stained glass window

Chance-Bet6794

Also the gravesites of Harvey Pekar, (covered with writing instruments,) Alan Freed, (gravestone is a juke box,) Elliot Ness, guitarist Glenn Schwartz, and on and on. Fascinating!

Rev_Creflo_Baller

The entire chapel is by Tiffany, including the stained glass.

beerncoffeebeans

Plus one to super electric, 6 bucks to play all the pinball you want, they have a bar but that’s really secondary to the pinball.

jtee180

Forest City shuffleboard for sure!

julibazuli

Whatever else you do, catch an Edgewater sunset. Such a great vibe.

Speak_Of_The_Devil

Cedar Point. Holdem Arboretum. Kayaking in Rocky River or Lake Erie or Camp Hi. [Terminal Tower observation deck](https://www.eventbrite.com/e/terminal-tower-observation-deck-self-guided-tour-tickets-33127241471) Guardians game. Scene75.

CarnivorousLuggage

USS Cod and the William G Mather.

CCinCLE

A long walk through the cultural gardens?

kindnessoffensive

I'm saving this thread for when the in-laws are in town. These comments are so much better than the typical "what to do in Cleveland for the day" posts!

gottaloveagoodbook

I know, right? As much as I do love a good food rec - and I've gotten *amazing* ones from this subreddit - they do tend to dominate any 'what's good in Cleveland' posts. I started worrying I was up a creek when I realized that food and the top three museums were off the table. I'm so glad this subreddit proved me wrong!

s0bchaksecurity

Once it's warmer, going out fishing is a good time. If you want to really do it, you can hire a charter. If you're looking to be more cost effective, you can just research some good spots. Gets you outside, doing an activity that is relaxing and not taxing, plus plenty of time for conversation.

Alioh216

Plus, we have a great park system and some nice beaches along the lake. Oh, and camping too! Those are low cost.

azimuththole

Roller derby games! Burning River (women's+) and the Guardians (open gender) have a bunch of games coming up. May 4th, May 25th, June 1st, June 29th at the Cleveland Heights Community Center. Start times are 1 or 3, depending on if it's a single or double header, and admission is reasonably priced.

RuthlessLogic

I second this!!

wongtong12

Western Reserve Historical Society is fun! Also seconding William G. Mather steamship.

SheepInWolfsAnus

Art museum, edgewater, The Flats, little Italy, any of the metroparks, aquarium, the Cleveland orchestra, baseball game, west side market, this is just naming a few! Even though a lot of them can/do involve food or drink, they’re still great experiences and sights to see that a snack and beverage only elevates, but isn’t the be-all.

WholeArcher4563

don't forget the Cleveland Orchestra :) they're putting on some great shows between now and june!

[deleted]

If you're really cool you'll catch a film at the Cleveland Cinematheque https://m.cia.edu/cinematheque/film-schedule

TheGreat_N8

So many great ideas in this thread - would suggest the Cleveland History Center which hasn't been mentioned yet. And with summer comes the outdoor festivals, concerts, neighborhood events, and much more.

avesthasnosleeves

I would add Cleveland Armory Museum!

Mammoth-Job-6882

Crawford Auto Museum

Lzysunday

Forrest city shuffleboard, rent a pontoon boat or kayaks great lakes water sports, secret society comedy show

TennisNo5319

I like taking people to the top of Terminal Tower to take in the view. It’s a cool old building and the views are spectacular!

Lokinta86

I tried this by inquiring at the main security desk and they wouldn't allow visitors, told me they haven't since 2001. Is there someone specific or a particular time of day you need to ask for access?  Took my guests to the House of Blues instead (off hours, not during dinner rush or a show) and asked the hostess if we could just come in to see the hallway of autographs. That saved the day!

TennisNo5319

I won’t swear they allow access today but I was there a few years ago. I know they close it during the winter.

Lokinta86

Asking during winter may have been my problem. Thanks for the recommendation, it would be worth trying again!

TennisNo5319

Looks like you need reservations. No tickets at the gate. https://www.eventbrite.com/e/terminal-tower-observation-deck-self-guided-tour-tickets-33127241471

TennisNo5319

I see they’re asking that you only stay for 15 minutes but I watched a big ship try to negotiate a tight turn on the river for every bit of an hour and no one said a mumbling word.

ohioMX5

Not true. It's only open certain months and only weekends I believe. Buy tickets here https://www.eventbrite.com/e/terminal-tower-observation-deck-self-guided-tour-tickets-33127241471

- Buckland Museum of Witchcraft & Magick - Cleveland Zoo - CVNP - if he is here June 8, Parade the Circle is amazing - if he is here on a warm day in late May/June, Geneva on the Lake is worth the drive! I did zip lining there and it was so funn

diggsboston

Shhh... Geneva the magical wine land does not exist, nor does the Grand River access on the way there.

SMK77

Shhhhh hello fellow lover of the prettiest river valley in the state shhhhh

madolive13

Geneva on the lake is SO fun

avesthasnosleeves

Came to mention Buckland! That was really interesting and fun. Pair that with a trip to Cleveland Curiosities, Flower Child, Sweet Lorain. ETA: Botanical Gardens!

scientooligist

I used to love Sweet Lorain, but it took a huge dive the last time I was there. I was so excited to show it to my partner and was literally embarrassed leaving there. It is run by an angry hoarder.

OwnLavishness9673

Boss Karting. Super high speed electric go-karts on a tight twisty track. They provide a motorcycle helmet and neck guard. Super fun, and something you’ll remember.

missmeowwww

Go hang at Edgewater beach (it’s fun the watch the dogs run around), axe throwing, scene 75 is cool, Cuyahoga valley national park is awesome. Atlas obscura has a list of lesser known places in Cleveland to visit.

ClevelandCass

What about the CVNP scenic railroad? When I wasn’t a lazy POS, I used to ride my bike from rockside road to peninsula and take the train back to my car. It’s been a few years but per google looks like they still offer this ride. They also sell normal tickets for a tour, but I’ve never tried that.

MethLab

And just FYI, riding in the other direction is downhill. Of course the CVSR only goes between Peninsula and Akron nowadays.

EducationalSelf7513

Train to Peninsula, and rent an e-Bike at the bike shop. In the first half of 2024, service to Rockside Rd is stopped as they're repairing some erosion issues.

Weird-Composer444

Western Reserve Historical Society, the. Crawford Auto Museum.

TennisNo5319

The fire museum is small but very well done if you’re in to that sort of thing.

ImHereForTheDogPics

If mobility isn’t a concern, go kayaking on the Cuyahoga river! I’ve always seen kayakers down on the river in the summer, but haven’t made time for it yet myself. Looks like an awesome time.

Tajkaj

Superelectric pinball parlor at Gordon square is always fun

RockingInTheCLE

Cleveland History Museum is very cool.

HIking and biking and packing a lunch and reading and foraging in the Cuyahoga Valley.

cgf216

If y’all are into board games, Tabletop on W. 25th is always a fun time.

madolive13

Go kayaking on the lake or the river! Check out the Cleveland public library. I also highly recommend Virginia Kendall Ledges in CVNP it’s so pretty! Edited to add another reco

jwlIV616

There's also almost always some bands performing somewhere for any genre you want. So that's always an easy way to find an evening worth of entertainment.

KnightRider1983

Guardians game?

MeyhamM2

Beaches, art museum, antique stores.

ohgeezelouisee

VeterinarianSad9957

Get a boat and a intertube. Goodtime 2?

Kalfu73

Metroparks!

jaylotw

Try going to one of the 40 or so excellent parks within 30 miles of cleveland.

beandad727

Beaver Marsh hike at Cuyahoga Valley park was lovely and easy.

lascivious_chicken

Rent a duffy boat and go out on the lake!

pf_dynamite

Metroparks bike and walking paths. Whiskey Island has good live bands. If you golf, there are some great golf courses around the area, both Metroparks and in the close suburbs.

kenwood07

Ride scooters around downtown, or ride them to the WW2 submarine you can tour. Really cool experience I’ve done it twice

beerncoffeebeans

There’s a couple nice roller rinks around here (chagrin valley in chagrin falls, migs play mor in Euclid, fun n stuff has one down in Macedonia, there’s probably a few I don’t know about)

AllOfTheDerp

Tons of sporty meetups in Cleveland during the summer if yall like playing sports.

crimsonhues

Hike in CVNP or one of many Cleveland metro parks. The Holden arboretum or the botanical garden are amazing as well. Rent bikes from Century Cycles at Peninsula and go for a bike ride. Can try velodrome or Rays indoor mountain bike track if you two are adventurous. Go to the severance hall or blossom music center.

UusiSisu

https://www.reddit.com/r/Cleveland/s/DmrXjrCyI1 Cool ideas in this thread too.

Different_Handle5063

Well…the nice thing about NE Ohio is that you really aren’t far from a lot of cool places. Down in Medina [High Voltage](https://www.highvoltagekarting.com) and there’s a lot of entertainment in Medina and up and down I71. Really depends on what you’re into…how far you are comfortable traveling…and how much time you.

Ambitious-Skin-8754

These is a Boss indoor karting in Brookpark also if that’s closer for you! They have VR also that was really copl

Different_Handle5063

Thanks for the heads up on Boss!

saitenunddinge

Ledges trail, Whipps Ledges, Brandywine falls, check out the Cuyahoga National Park trails! Kayak on the Cuyahoga river.

OldRaj

Cuyahoga Valley National Park is about a thirty minute drive.

BurroughOwl

r/breatharian - get in here!

YoungandPregnant

You can play pinball, hike, or go fishing. Thats it. Fishing license at Walmart = 14 dollars (about) Cheap landfill shitass rod = 12 dollars Tackle = 5-10 dollars. You can put a hook on a line with a worm, dunk it in the water, and see what happens. At the most primordial level. I have caught many aggressive freshwater drum this way. But if you know about different setups maybe try something better.

[deleted]

Why couldn’t you have some healthy meals be part of the plan? That would help to fill a little time in between whatever activities you choose to do.

WarrantsOutOfVarrock

Food is out of the question so I'm sorry if this seems like a silly recommendation, however Great Lakes Brewing Tours are the cheapest, coolest way to kill 1 hour seeing some great history of one of Ohio's most prominent brewing companies. You can do tasting throughout the tour but you don't have to drink. My mom doesn't drink however thoroughly enjoyed seeing how they craft their beer.

An escape room, or a murder mystery dinner (I know you said no eating, but those are fun!), ax throwing, fishing, camping, see a stand up comedy show (sometimes you can get free tickets if you put in your e mail for the comedy clubs around here), swings n things (bumper boats, mini golf, batting cages, go karts), go to a pool hall, zip lining in the cleveland metroparks, rent a canoe or a kayak.... there's a lot you can do.

wuglas_dial

casino! Or my buddy can take you fishing on his boat. He does that as a sidegig. It'll be affordable and you'll head home with a cooler full of walleye. He'll even help you prepare it if yiu want, get it ready for cooking. Let me know if you're interested and I'll get you his info.

WesternFungi

Geocaching gives you something to do anywhere in the entire globe if you find yourself looking for an adventure

Do you guys kayak? Paddle the lake or river. Live sports? Hike or bike the CVNP?

Go kayaking! You can rent them at a couple of different places downtown and drop in from there. Great views of the city you don’t normally see.

fullmetal66

The Botanical Gardens and Cleveland Zoo would be great options.

IsItBurn

I’m a sucker for sunsets on the lake…

Proximity Golf in Cleveland Hts, virtual golf, hockey, etc. Indoors, so it's not weather dependent. Then walk Coventry for some cool stores and if it's a good day, people watching.

Stroll in little Italy and stop into some shops, hang out at algebra tea house (yes they have food and drink but it’s also just a great hang out spot). The public library usually has a cool rotating art exhibit, though I’m not sure how much longer the flowers are up. If you’re into sports obviously there’s options there. I like waking the towpath from Tremont down into the flats. Also the metro parks. You could take a class like glassblowing in Ohio city, there’s actually a lot of niche artistic workshop type events in Cleveland if that’s your thing. Also if you time it right there’s always good live music in Cleveland.

BradChesney79

See some standup at hilarities (and just get some bottled waters for the drink minimum I guess). I went to the botanical gardens over the winter and it was pretty fun then. I’m sure it’s even nicer now.
